I think this is due to the fact that you went instore to redeem. The code is an online only use voucher code

The email I got didn't read that way. I think "Start your celebrations with $10 off your next shop. Simply enter the code BDAY16 at the checkout when you spend $30 or more." is a little misleading since I assumed they meant a physical check-out. It doesn't matter, now that I know I will be more careful.
Don't forget cashrewards in store.

Need to call EDR to change birthday details 🎂So others with registered EDR cards should receive this offer on their birthday.

Confirm that I have received this offer last month as well (bday is in Dec)- only valid for online shopping orders.
I think they should of wrote "online only" or something to that affect. The woolies manager told me there was another person that day with the same code who couldn't get the money off either.

I think I over looked this because flybuys are really good about entering codes at the checkout. I think they are better rewards program.I've never seen a FlyBuys code (characters to be entered on screen) to use at Coles store checkout, as you tried with this code at Woolies. Only received offers to activate online, or barcodes to scan - mailed by FlyBuys or at bottom of receipt.
What Coles store checkout codes am I missing out on? Couldn't find any on OzBargain. But Woolies regularly has codes (like this one) on OzBargain - only for online orders.

Targeted means you're a registered customer and you meet certain criteria to get this offer

Others have reported rejection of orders after setting up multiple accounts for same address.

I had forgotten I had set up a few family accounts years ago with birth date set to January. This birthday offer has only started recently, so was surprised to receive the offers.
Accounts require different email addresses. OzBargain Basics to know how to change 1 gmail account into many by adding a "." between the letters. Emails are still sent to the 1 original email address😯
The new account site helpfully tells you if you've used those details before. But some have had troubles with too many accounts.
Many people can live at the same address, possibly with same family name, all with their own account under their name.
Considering how expensive a pet can be to feed, they deserve their own account too. I feed mince to the local wild birds - with their own accounts😀

Did anyone have success getting this code to work for newly created accounts (or only confirmed working for existing accounts previously setup)? If so, did you also have to setup both a Woolworths Rewards and Woolworths online accounts to get it to recognise the code?
FYI, when I created a new Woolworth online account for the kids (and linked a new Woolworths Rewards number), I received the following error message: "You are not eligible for this coupon promotion". When I then linked my existing Woolworths Rewards number, I instead got the error message: "Sorry, the Coupon: "BDAY16" has already been used the maximum number of times".
So it appears that the code is linked to the Woolworths Rewards account not the Woolworths online accounts. But how to get it to work for newly created accounts so that other household members can take advantage of the $10 discount?
If someone has actually got it working for brand new accounts I'd appreciate some guidance!

1st online order - the promo code is only redeemable once per online account and once per rewards account so don't necessarily link them :)

Did a Click & Collect Order to avoid shipping costs, almost all items were on special & used a $4.50 credit voucher that was expiring in a couple of weeks time (12 month expiry from issue) - this is the main reason for the order.

It's very rare to get decent targeted offers for Woolworths Online. It's been a couple of years since I did an online order. I only do small transactions with Woolworths so most of the Online offers for $100 or over are useless to me. Have fun with the offer. Have they thrown in free delivery or are you going to click and collect?
