[Android Ozb App] Sweet Aussie Deals $0.99 (66% off)

2500

Hey guys,

First of all I want to thank everyone who downloaded the app when it first launched. I’ve received a lot of great feedback since then and have taken my time to implement each one.

Basically SAD is an Ozbargain app that is optimised for mobile viewing experience with tools such as comment navigation, card views, pie-chart, widget, statusbar notifications and more.

I’ve included a series of screenshots briefly going through the main features. Screenshots

Also, I just released a free version on the play store. Free version.

What are the differences between the free app and the paid app?

    • +88

      The paid one costs $0.99

      • +2

        (^v^)

        Unfortunate acronym…

        • +2

Whenever I see SAD, I think Systems Analysis and Design, and get sad.

        • +1

          @stormii: Seasonal Adjustment Disorder

      • +4

That is one difference. I had an extra s in my sentence therefore indicating plural examples.

    • +13

Not much. The paid includes the wishlist feature and no ads.

      • +7

No ads???😵 Ozbargain is a web of ads, Haha. No offense, I love ozbargain.

        • +8

There is an option to disable ads in your profile settings if you want, but always a good idea to leave it on to support the great work of Scotty and mods

        • @lyl:

So ads within the app steer revenue to OP, but are there ads within the content still that support Scotty etc, or is this just a way to scoop up their hard-earned under the guise of an app?

        • +1

          @Sir Casm:

Sorry my last comment wasn't clear enough. It was a reply to leexm101's comment that 'Ozbargain is a web of ads', which I think he was referring to the ozbargain site. So I suggested that ads on the site can easily be disabled.

Pretty sure all the revenue in this third party app goes to the OP.

      • Can you explain how the wish list feature works?

        • +4

You can add specific keywords to a wishlist such as an item, a specific store or ozb user and when there's a deal that matches that key then it'll popup in that tab.

You can check out the UI in the 3rd last screenshot in the imgur album.

Popcorn futures contracts and trading are so much more than just Hot Air.

        • Steals everyones popcorn.

    • Have a can of soda. Pass the oopcorn please. This will get interesting.

  • +1

    SAD?

    • They should have a meeting to talk about when the next meeting will be.

    • +1

Yes, I was thinking what a SAD name

  • +6

    Sweet aussie deals = sad
    aussie deals, sweeeeet = ads

    Can't win really.

    • +5

      Sweet Aussie Specials = SAS

      • DO we need SAS to extract the bargains from ISIS

        • @CH:

now you reminded me of mike whitney hosting who dares watch wins.

          @xoom:

Yeah sorry bout that! I was referring to the SAS motto.

I use this app all the time… Love it. Originally I had an issue trying to comment, but the developers fixed it in a few hours and notified me to try the new version. It's a great way to access OzBargain.

  • +18

Just purchased your app and posted this comment using it

    • +3

      And it looks normal

    • +10

pretty cool. i cant even tell the difference! must be good

    • +1

      Me too. Works well

    • +5

the font is not as good

    • Same! =)

  • Thanks OP, bought one.

  • +3

gotta encourage development of OzBargain related goodness

  • +1

can messages push alert over the app?
love the wishlist to log up future buys.
    +1 again

  • does iOS miss out on SAD?

    • +2

      that makes me sad :(

      • no worries, I like sad jokes

    • I'll definitely give it go soon. Last time I tried developing using virtual box it was just too laggy. However, I did recently get some more ram so hopefully it'll be less painful.

      • Don't think status bar notification is working even though it is enabled in settings and widget crashes on one of my phones

      • Can you setup a iOS wishlist/email notification. When it is available, we want to test etc.

    • iOS is too happy for sad.

    • +1

the app will be called iSAD

  • +24

Credit to an app developer that allows full functionality in a free app, with simple, convenient additions to the paid version. That's the reason I bought this app, developers like this need more support.

  • Great app with almost flawless integration however there is no real ability to get a quick snapshot of the user posting the deals; just a generic image of the poster and their name (See example here: http://imgur.com/a/Fll7L -Correct me if I'm wrong!)

Call me weird but I think the 'essence' of OzBargain is the community feel; being able to see how much a poster has contributed, when they joined OzB, their comment history etc. If you can't access this it loses a lot of it's magic.

    • +6

Thanks! Yea that's a good idea. I'll add it to the next update.

      • +1

If you could include the avatar image and link to their user name snapshot details that would be a huge improvement to the app. Well done on your hard work so far :)

  • Bought the app however several issues with it. Dark theme isn't working in discuss and message list. Takes way too long to load Top deals and comments compared to the site

    • +3

Sorry, I'll get those cleaned up asap

  • How does this compare to the ozbargain plus paid app? Bought thanks

    • This one looks prettier

  • Never mind that, if it costs 99c, how do I get change from a $1 coin? lol

  • +1

    S5 stock mm 6.0.1

    Installed app and found problems.

    1. In dark theme in discussions the background tile is white and the writting is white as well. Clicking the tile goes into the discussion and everything is fine.

    2. Cant go into forum from menu.

Unistalled after that. Looks good though.

    • So what were the positives?

      • +1

Its a nice clean layout, swipe left or right for other sections plus the side menu to gain access to other parts.

Nice notification setup and wifget as well.

I use the forum a lot and a dark theme dose look great bar the slight issue with the colour of the font.

        • Swipe left or right? Is this the tinder for deals? That's awesome!

        • @Crowdedthehouse: sounds like it but no.

Although it would be an easy voting system for all deals as apposed to mashing the screen to hit that small plus.

  • +1

Nice app! My apologies if I am missing this, but is there a way to see/have all NEW (not just the categories) deals instead of TOP as first screen?

    • +1 would use this feature

    • Looks like a new version was pushed for the free version, which I was using to check it out before committing to the whole 99c. Thanks!

  • Bought. Thanks to OP for the effort. I hope you keep improving it.

  • Bought it and tried it, so far so good, but the lack of edit comments button, could you please add this into the app?
    cheers

  • +3

Been using this app since it launched, looks good, runs well and very active dev. Well worth your Google Survey earnings.

  • +2

Cheers, paid for the app and signed up - after lurking for a couple years…

  • +1

Love this site. Your effort is commendable and I love supporting local industry. Bought the app.

  • looks great. 2 things: ability to default to 'new' deals and ability search comments (so I could have checked if this had already been suggested). cheers.

    • Second that, I would like the ability to start under the New tab. Apart from that, great looking app.

  • Hey op
Is there a way to follow a commented link? Nothing happens when I click
    Thanks

  • Hi op

Just bought your app because why not. Had a look at the forums and it seems it has trouble parsing tables. Check out https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/287561 for example on the app and on the website.

    • +1

Ahhh Thanks for pointing that out. Will try to get a fix out soon.

  • When I open the app, it loads Top deals.
How can I load New deals in this app?

    • +2

Hi, is this for the free app? If so I just released an update which fixes the tab layout. I had the names mixed around.

  • +5

No offence OP, top job on your work. But for some reason I still like the mobile Web version of ozbargain better.. The fonts and comments easier to read on mobile web imho

  • +2

    Bought using Telstra credits.

    • +1

      Ozbargainer's way.

      • +9

ozbargainer would use google survey credit

        • My survey app has been dormant for a year :c

        • +1

          @Baebs:
visit your local woolworths and you will get a survey

        • @Gimli:
          Could you elaborate?

        • @Baebs:
i seem to get surveys to after visiting certain shops usually woolworths, mcdonalds

        • @Gimli: Nope

        • @Mic Cullen: Do you stalk Gimli?

        • @TheOneWhoKnocks: No, but I stalk my local Woolworths, and have never had a survey, so the statement "visit your local woolworths and you will get a survey" seems to warrant a "nope." #readingisimportant

        • @Mic Cullen: Then you should've said that in the original comment. Why the hashtag tho.

        • @Mic Cullen & @Baebs -
Location services must be active on your device for it to know you've been there.
Make sure it's on then do some "shopping" and see how you go. Seems up and down though, I've had runs where its a constant survey every couple days then nothing for a week.

        • @promethbastard: Yep, location services always on. I get them every time I go to Bunnings, but never at Woolies. My wife gets them at neither place.

        • @Mic Cullen:
That's really odd. Perhaps fire up the survey app and see if prompts you about anything?

        • +1

@promethbastard: Nah, just the "No survey at this time" message. Never had one for Woolies. Always get them for Bunnings. I walk past there a fair bit, so sometimes drop in just to fill the account a little :-)

    • +1

Thanks for the tip! I didn't even know you could use Telstra credits! I had $280 on my mobile broadband and nothing to do with it! Time to start buying apps with the credits!

  • Bought. Seems like a nice app OP.

Can someone link me to google surveys? I spend the odd few minutes wasting time on the phone so might as well stop paying for apps with my own hard earned if I can! My OzB skills need some refinement. Haha

  • +1

Slick looking app OP - Very nice. worthy of opinion rewards credit like others have said.

    Couple questions:

Do the comments update/sync automatically? Would be nice to have a way to refresh otherwise.

Does OzBargain have an API or do you need to rely on some other form of trickery?

  • +3

Any chance you could make a ChoiceCheapies version for us Kiwis? It's literally exactly the same as OzBargain, just with New Zealand deals and a different URL and colour theme. If you have a look you'll see what I mean: www.cheapies.nz

  • Purchased and loving it. The only suggestions I have are:

    1. Editing for comments. This may be a feature already and I have just derped out in finding it.

    2. When replying to comments for some reason something is stopping auto capitalisation for new sentences.

  • Bought it! Great App. Thanks OP. Keep up the great work.
