LOL! Nice one. $5.98 if you get the gold one.

You also get 8% cash back with Cash Rewards.

Never had an issue with Zapals and they have decent customer service. Too many times my Chinese eBay stuff never arrives.

Too many times??? I have had hundreds of "Chinese eBay stuff" delivered to my home, only 2 or 3 were never arrived(and I got a refund or a replacement sent). Spending almost 3 times more for an item that will be shipped from China(same as the eBay stuff) is not a bargain IMHO.
The funny thing is that when I saw the deal I thought it was actually a bargain and made the purchase.
To make things worse, the confirmation email says:
"Holiday Notice: Zapals warehouse is currently closed for Chinese New Year Holiday. Your order will be processed on/after 3rd February 2017. We will try our best to ship it ASAP. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience caused."

2 hours of researching cheap imported mounts and you didn't check eBay?

      • Wish i had a spare 2 hours to research magnetic car mounts

        • +1

But you do have time to reply

        • @onebutters: Yes I consider my time on OzBargain browsing for bargains and savings to be well spent. It may include the odd 12 word reply to say thanks, or to say thanks for wasting my time. Luckily I type at 120wpm so this took me 30 odd seconds to type out. Cash me ousside, how bow dah.

  • Do these magnetic mounts have some secondary piece of metal that you slip inside your phone case or something?

    • Interested to know too

    • +1

Yes comes with a little metal plate.

    • I use the Logitech +Drive mounts(good old Dick Smith days deals), they come with 2 magnetic plates that are also adhesive so you can either slip them in the case or stick them on the case(or phone)

  • same thing $5.98 on ebay!

  • Love your productivity..

  • I actually think the best ones are the magnetic ones that mounts on your air vent

    • It depends on the car.., Also that means that you won't be able to use that vent to cool you down(cools down your phone though )

Many phones are incompatible as they are designed to switch off when they sense the magnetic field, as they do when you shut the lid on a phone case with a magnetic catch.

you might be the only one who attaches it to the screen rather than to the back of the phone

  • I'm negging this because the product is faulty to the point of being DANGEROUS. It is not fit for purpose, and considering safety is the ONLY purpose of this item, it is therefore completely useless.

I bought a nearly identical product from Zapals (I bought the air-vent mount, not the stick-on mount, but they should be the same functionally) when it was included 'free' with other items (apart from postage cost). The magnet is not strong enough to hold even a very light smart-phone. The first time I went around a corner my mobile phone fell off. I tried sticking the metal plate directly to the back of my phone but as soon as my car moved - even just to drive slowly out of a parking spot - the phone shifted weight, rotated, then fell off. The magnet simply wasn't strong enough to hold my Alcatel mobile phone, and it's not even as heavy or large as my wife's Galaxy S3. There's simply no way this holder can safely hold a flat smart-phone. There are known cases of people crashing and dying becaues their mobile phone fell under their brake pedal. Also some people are stupid enough to take their eyes off the road and reach down and pick up their fallen mobile phone which is 1) dangerous and 2) illegal.

I've used similar mounts successfully many years ago with old Nokia-style mobile phones, but those phones were so small that the mount made strong contact with a fairly large surface area of the phone. The phones were also light and could be mounted at or near their centre of gravity, so they didn't rotate. But 4-inch and larger smart-phones are a completely different story.

Terribly product, avoid like the plague. I should actually report this item to Choice magazine or somebody, so they can let people know how dangerous they are. Does anybody know a relevant authority who can set about banning the sale of these? I'm not usually a safety numpty, but this 'holder' does NOT hold current model mobile phones and is not fit for purpose to the point of being dangerous. After being the victim of an awful car crash that has made the last 12 years of my life a living hell, I'm not supporting something that potentially makes driving more dangerous.

EDIT: Before somebody complains, I just realised I bought a slightly different model of this product, but all my concerns are still relevant. The product is nearly identical apart from branding. Even if the 'branded' version has stronger magnets, they can't defy physics. If the phone is not held securely near its centre of gravity, it will fall off the holder at the slightest bump and potentially become dangerous:

  • I bought one like this http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Flexible-Auto-Car-Mount-Magnetic-At…
for about $3 and the magnet seemed strong enough to hold my xiaomi phone but as I said earlier, the phone switched off as soon as the phone was clicked on the magnet. It did work if you repositioned the magnetic attachment away from the bottom of the phone. I haven't used it a lot so I can't say it is rock solid and safe, but I did buy another one for the second car as they seem more useful than suction cups and sticky mats and $3 was cheap. A wager like ring glues to the back of the phone and connects to a similar, but thicker washer on the spherical magnet with a reasonable grip.
