  • Just curious , when u activate it and use it for a month can u just stop using the sim and not get charged ? Or is it a plan we r stuck with ?

    • +1

After 30 days you can just forget about the SIM.

      • Awesome!! Thank you !

      • +2

Make sure you disable auto recharge option by going into account settings.
        It's enabled by default.

  • Do people just use a different email when activating their second voucher as 'new customer'?

  • Kogan isn't really well price currently. $50 for 12GB? Vodafone is $40 for 10GB with international minutes. Off course it's a lock in contract 12 months however.

No really good deals on plans at the moment.

  • +2

Got mine today, had to put in drivers license details. worried my second sim may not work if I reuse the same details, not the biggest problem cos i can use my partners. but wondering if anyone can give feedback who will unlock more than 1 in a day. cheers

  • Trying to port from Woolworths mobile over to Kogan. Activated since 7pm yesterday and still till now no service. Will have to chase up.

    • How did you go chasing them up? I got my sim this morning and registered it, no number transfer, just need the data - still waiting for a dial tone 12 hours later.

      • You got Koganed
Apparently the mobile desk at Kogan operates on a shoestring to bring you cheaper prices,
        so it's not their fault

I'm sure they have am unpaid intern for that 😱

      • It took around 24 hours for the sim to be fully activated. I didn't end up chasing them as my sim magically started working when I tried to lodge a call.

  • G'day all, I used my credit card to purchase one of these for my nephew and just got a message from him saying he needs my card to activate the sim. Something about $1 will be charged and then returned after 5days. Does that sound correct or has he done something wrong? I paid the dollar already obviously, I thought he could just use his license or Medicare to activate the sim. Thanks for any help, and to the OP for the deal. Cheers

    • I think that's one of the ID verification methods. He should use another method or his own credit card.

      • Ok cool thanks for that, he obviously didn't see an option to change it. He doesn't have a credit card which is why he used mine to get the deal. Cheers

    • They need your credit card in case you ticked automatic recharge. I took a screen shot showing no recharge, so when they do charge me I can do a charge back.

      • Every ozbargainer should have prepaid debit cards for these type of situations.

        • Where can we get one of these from, for cheap/free?

        • +1

          @movieman:
I got the Coles reloadable one when it was free to sign up but minimum $10 deposit.

  • Can Anyone Please give some advise The cheapest way for porting from Kogan to others and Back to Kogan ? Wouldn't normally others charge $2 for sim card and you have to choose which plan ?

    • You have the option of lycamobile. They use Telstra network and no plan required. Sim is also free.

      • Do you need to ring Lycamobile customer Service to port from other provider or Can be done online When you activate The sim card ?

        • Can be done online however if the port in request fails you'll need to call them. Fairly simple process, as the sim has already been activated.

  • +1

Using this now, connection is average. Sometimes it loses network connectivity and takes forever to come back. Could be my Samsung Tab S2 though but I doubt it.

  • Anyone knows if after using this offer, we can keep continuing with their small plan ($16.90) to recharge, instead of keep porting in/out or paying the $49.90 for this plan?

    • Yes, you can recharge with any of the Kogan Mobile plans, even the 90 or 365 day plans.

  • using this now. have better reception in my area than i had with telstra. great deal.

  • Are there any other companies like kogan that have deals like this?

I am on kogan and wouldn't mind porting to another company, such as amaysim(if they ever have a deal) but I find that porting my number to somewhere like amaysim and porting back for a deal like this is a bit of a pain as it will take a while for my phone to receive calls.

  • I did not click on auto-recharge and it is still asking me for credit card details!

    • As long as you don't auto recharge it should be fine.

      • Thanks, I have finished the process, removed auto recharge

  • +1

Ordered one. Shall I wait to receive voucher in mail box? I though it is processed electronically!

update: just received the voucher email :)

  • No tethering on Kogan?

    • works for me, bit skippy trying to watch a live video feed but using an old iphone 4 to tether, might try an old wireless modem

  • I had a look for cashbacks and it looks like Shopandmint does Kogan at 0.75%. Every cent counts!

    • Now ozbargained: "We're experiencing a massive spike in traffic from people trying to secure our awesome deals. Please check back in a few minutes"

    Back in stock !

  • +1

Yep just ordered 2 more, thanks ! Great to alternate with my $1 Woolies sims.

    • Yep sounds great, but after you activate a few they won't accept your credit card as 'ID' anymore

  • I was able to buy one today 24/02/17 around 14:00AEDT:
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-voucher-code-extra…

  • Okay I am going to neg this and hopefully my reason is sufficient enough to do so.

I ordered the sim card 2 weeks ago in preparation for arriving back in Australia. I arrived last night, and went to activate the sim card this morning.

While filling in the details, I get to this final page:
"Your credit card is needed to verify your ID. A $1.00 pre-authorisation fee will be charged to your credit card which will automatically be refunded within 5 business days"

Okay fine, kind of a stupid step and annoying for anyone that doesn't have a credit card/debit mastercard/visa. I have three credit cards (AMEX, mastercard and visa), so I thought - no problem..

I tried each of my credit cards with no avail:
"We are unable to process your request. Please choose another credit card or try again later. For help, call us on 1300 056 426 (13 000 KOGAN)"

So, frustratingly I had to call Kogan, and was told that there is an issue with the card verification process at the moment, and that I will get a call within the 'next 48 hours' to get an update. They couldn't even just verify it and get it done for me over the phone.

So here we are at the reason for my neg. I know it's only $1, but had I known it was going to be this much hassle I would've gone with another provider.

Now it's possible that I won't have a working sim card until after the weekend at the earliest because of this extremely dumb credit card verification step (why not have some other methods of verification, driver licence, passport, paypal etc?)

It's a great deal, but just totally useless while it's impossible to activate.

    • +1

I understand your frustration but in all fairness is more of temporary glitch than a problem with the deal per se. I think it would be a good idea if they put a banner up on the activaction page to warn people.
Hopefully they will fix it quickly.

    • I had the same issue yesterday. The trick was (1) I changed the browser from IE to Chrome (2) put the same name in personal details as in my Credit Card.

Essentially, what they want to check is the name you put in for registration matches the one on Credit card.

Activated for me. Please give it another crack.

      • Na, doesn't work.

    • Having this problem now, did you just wait it out?

      • Tried every day until it worked, pretty frustrating

        • Still doesn't work with different credit cards
Thrown sim in Bin ,waste of money

        • @Beach Bum:
The name you register as must be identical to that shown on your credit card… exactly the same… if not it will reject. If cc says Fred J Smith then that is what you must put.

  • Data has been increased to 14GB.

  • +2

I want give Koganmobile customer support kudos for handling my problem quickly. I activated this morning and stupid me forgot to enter the voucher code. This afternoon looking at my DC spend online, I noticed a $49.90 charge and realised my mistake.

I called them on the support line, and got through quickly after the voice menus. The rep said she would disable my account so I could do the activation again, this time remembering to use the voucher code. On their part they would process a refund to my DC.

So all good, and I even got some bonus data as I did a large download just after activation. Thanks Koganmobile!

  • So I activated two sims. I didn't receive any voucher code in the envelop with the SIM card and activated it with CC details. Only to find out that I was charged $49.90 so will have to call them and find out if they can refund. Where is this voucher code? I've also thrown out the envelop now and only hold the SIM cards so wonder if they can give me a voucher cover over the phone, overall would prefer to lost the $2 than $99.80 for two SIM cards.

    • The voucher code was emailed to you just after your $1 order went through. Check your spam folder.

      • Thank you! I called them today they were very helpful. I will have to get a new voucher code though as I cannot locate it in my inbox (even in spam).

  • Can this sim be used in a wifi dongle?

    • Yes, if your dongle is capable of using the Vodafone Network.

      • Thanks

  • Can this be used as a data sim in my ipad?

  • If I have 2 vouchers can I use the second on the same SIM as the first, once it's data is used?

    • No it's for new customers only.

  • I had Kogan Sim Previously and credit Has expired on 8th March, but I Can still receive calls. Now I am trying to port to Telstra prepaid. But seems a problem with porting as it shows That My Kogan Number is inactive. Anyone Can shed some light whether it will work ?

  • +1

Why is this deal marked as expired? I just bought one then.

  • Grr… Can someone please help me. I have no phone access, only internet - or I'd phone Kogan. I'm trying to activate a Kogan SIM/voucher. Their site is saying the voucher I received via email is invalid, because it must be 10 digits. But the voucher code I received is only 8 digits !?

    • The 10 digit code is on the simpack you receive in the mail

    • +1

Did you get this sorted Greg?

The email subject line has your 8 character order reference: "Your Kogan Mobile voucher for order number ABCD123E"

But the 10 digit voucher code is in the email body:
"Your voucher code for a EXTRA LARGE 30Days 14GB Voucher For New Kogan Mobile Customers plan is: 1234567890"

      • Yes, thanks. I found the original emails… Kogan sends something 4 different emails when you buy a SIM. I kept two but they were the wrong ones. Luckily the others were still available in one of my other gmail folders. Oh - and they emailed to say they'd get back to me within a couple of days - never heard from them. (Which is par for the course nowdays.)

  • Has anyone who activated in Feb been able to port out and back in or set up another service using a second voucher?

    • +2

Yes, I did. Ported out and then just ported back in straight away. The voucher can still be used. Just when I ported back in took me quite longer than I expected. It took about 20 mins to port out from kogan to lycamobile. Then I ported back in kogan at about 11 am untill next day 3 am my number was finally back in service. During the period I couldn't even use my number with lyca either kogan. That really annoyed me. I couldn't know if I've missed any call or not.

    Hopeless koganmobile!

    Any dramas like these?

Activated $1 voucher on monday as new customer and new number.
Mobile signal and 4G net stopped working after 10 minutes, couldn't log in online account anymore.
    Called helpline.
Was told that the number was terminated for unknown reason, checked with backteam but was unable to resolve.
Told to wait for 2 days for a callback.
2 and half days later, called helpline again.
Still told to wait for callback.
    To be continued…

    Hopeless koganmobile!

    • 10 days later, the phone number still hasn't been connected. Only received one call saying that they are still investigating it.

      AMAZINGLY LOW PRICES!
      AMAZINGLY LOW SERVICES!

  • Very happy with this deal, so far I've activated 3 sims without trouble.. the Vodafone network is superb within my area.

    • If you're cc is rejected after using 5 vouchers it's suspended for 30 days + you need to refresh page or any subsequent cc used will be rejected and suspended too
Also refresh page if cc has middle name on one card and not another

      • Ok cheers will keep that in mind

      • I got 6 before being rejected, thanks for this info….try again in 30 days.
Oh well, the $50 vodafones are half price, thats 14+ days of 2gig a day(or 28 of 1 gig) thatll get me by till then.

  • Has anyone else had problems porting away from Kogan? My Kogan sim expired 3 days ago, so I tried porting to Boost prepaid mobile. It has been over 3 days now and the port has still not gone through, which sux as I can't make any calls and I have no data. But still able to receive calls on Kogan SIM. I have contacted Boost several times to ask what is causing the delay, and they keep saying it's a problem on Kogan's side. I tried contacting Kogan and they will not respond. So I am stuck in no man's land. So annoying! Any advice on what I can do? Lodged a case with TIO but they seem toothless to be honest.

    • Be persistent. Contact both companies repeatedly and eventually you will run into someone that can actually solve your problem. I had trouble activating my Boost sim and it took me 4 days with online chat to resolve the issue (the first few people I chatted with were completely clueless and simply told me to wait with various excuses).

In the future, do not attempt sim hopping with your main number. Maintain your main number on a cheap long expiry plan (for accepting calls only) and use an alternate number for sim hopping (for making calls and data). That way you can replace/abandon your alternate number if you run into porting issues while preserving your main number.

      • Thanks mate, that is exactly what is happening. Boost online chat from India is absolutely useless. Good advice about main number, but sounds like I will need a dual sim phone to do that properly?

        • Other options include using an older backup phone or a pocket wifi device. Whatever floats your boat.

Do note that if you went for the dual sim option, your phone should be capable of 4G/3G and not 4G/2G.

  • Hi,

Can anyone confirm my understanding that, with the so-called "new customer" each new SIM card activation registered under the same person is considered to meet the new customer requirement?

In other words, can I activate multiple Kogan SIMS using respective instances of the vouchers using the same ID?

    Thanks in advance.
    Tony

    • I would like to know that too!

    • +1

i had a few activated over the last month using same name and details, i may of changed the email once or twice but dont think that mattered

    • +1

I also activated multiple using the same identity but using a different voucher code and it worked fine.

  • Did anyone fail to activate the $1 voucher after 31/03/17? as the voucher that I received expires 31/03/17 but it should be expired on 30/06/17 at the time that I bought.

    • I have two and both would not activate yesterday as they've expired. Kogan staff are "looking into it"

    • Same. I had to activate a more recent voucher purchased after the initial one that became invalid. Kogan support is looking into it.

    • Has anyone had any luck getting the sims that expire 31/03/17 re-activated? My ones are also dead even though they were advertised as expiring on 30/06/17 when purchased. Got the same response from Kogan as everyone else. They are investigating but I think that's their BS for too hard, move along :)

      • +2

Following up, I can confirm that Kogan did investigate and replaced my supposedly expired vouchers with new ones. Nice surprise from them :)

        • mine expired as well, did you call them? I email them and they told me it's expire and want to refund me 1 dollar wtf?

        • +1

          @Jugg.Judy:

I called them. Take the refund and buy another voucher would be easiest option. I had multiple expired vouchers and they gave me new ones for all of them.

        • @Obs:

thanks, but to receive the refund I have to talk to them give them my bank detail etc, and order new one and waiting for sim card to arrive.. I think it would be easier if them gave me new code to use.

  • I got the deal today via email, Limit 1 per customer. Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEST on 30/06/2017

  • new deal live again

  • I ported from Kogan to Optus and then back to Kogan to make use of another $1 month. The Kogan to Optus port took 15 mins (at 9pm). The port from Optus to Kogan was initiated at 10pm but only completed at 12pm the following day.

  • How do you activate it? I received the sim card and I went through the activation process but it is asking for me to pay $49.90 for the first month.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

    • +1

On the page where you have to select a plan, at the very bottom just before the auto renewal check box, there is spot to enter in a voucher. If your voucher is valid, it will automatically select the plan for you.

  • what is Kogan contact email? i was about send them an email about my invalid voucher code which supposed to be expired on 30 June 2017.
