Now to find 49 other OzBargainers willing to do a group buy ?

    • +9

Let's organise one for Eastern suburbs.

      • Sydney? I'm in for a dozen..

    • What's the occasion?

      • +2

That overly commercialised romantic superficial gifting day.

      • +3

The bachelor. Will you accept this rose?

        • +2

          Yes Osher

    • +10

      Just find 49 more girlfriends

    • You're style is bold JV, you don't need another 49 OzBargainers.

    • +1

Find 3 others and you can throw out the worst 2 and have a dozen each. $12.50 for a dozen roses I'd pay. $50….nah.

      • +4

        This guy's a thinker

  • +1

    Bit excessive, isn't it.

    • You can get it cheaper?

    • +3

Don't let the missus hear you say that.

  • +19

    Free from the neighbour's garden

  • +55

Valentine's day, the absolute worst of these commercially driven, guilt inducing, waste of time and money, pointless days.

    • +62

      someone's lonely

      • +1

Lonely or not, they are right.

    • +2

      Day for guilt and suckers.

      • +9

Hardly, I think it's one of the best cultural phenomenon in the western world.
Guys can neglect and be shitty partners for the whole year, and only need to splurge out on valentine's day, anniversary, and birthday.
1:120 good to crappy bf/husband ratio. You can't get a better deal than that!

Shallow and materialistic girls are very amusing. "He loves me!" "Look everybody, my bub treats me better than yours!" =D

        • +4

          *1:121.75

          @Meconium:

          Lol, good work

        • +1

Ha ha, I like the way you see the world. 1 question - Whats a bub ?

        • @Noobist45: u = oo ?

        • @Noobist45:
          Cute nickname for partner/bf/husband.
I think it was originally used to for actual babies, but got hijacked when couples starting calling each out baby…

    • +37

On the corner contrary, I patiently await my gf presenting me with a bunch of roses and some jewelry simply for being a great guy.

I, in turn, as a great guy, will give her some extra effort in bed.

      • +3

Snoring extra loud doesn't count. :P hehehe

      • -1

Such high and mighty talk there. We have a womaniser here it seems

        • +1

Give your partner a gift this Valentine's day, and fake a sense of humour will you?

      • I just finish in two minutes and then sleep…

        • Two minutes? What's your secret?

        • +1

          @RolandWaites:
No secret, it comes naturally to me.

        • @ms: to … or from?

        • What? You do it three times?

    • +2

      2 girls down voted you

      • +1

I don't know how they have the time with getting: fake tan, waxing, nails done, choosing an outfit for the big special day..!

    • +5

It's all about the women anyway.

Tell me one ad on tv that says "give him what he really wants this Valentines Day"

      • The Japanese have an interesting twist on Valentine's Day: it's a day where women give gifts to men. One month afterwards it's White Day, where men are supposed to reciprocate.

Over here all marketing is aimed at men to buy stuff for money, in the hopes of getting a special reward at the end of it. Meh.

        • But japan has a declining birthrate, so perhaps that custom isn't quite working very well for the guys…

        • That's just a ploy to gouge money from both genders. And then there's the whole concept of giri choco.

      • Tell me one ad on tv that says "give him what he really wants this Valentines Day"

They don't have to advertise that.

Everyone already knows what he wants, and they don't sell it in the shops.

        • +9

and they don't sell it in the shops.

Well, not the ones in shopping malls…

        • @Scrooge McDuck: Have you been to Amsterdam? It pretty much is a shopping mall

  • +41

I was talking to the wife about this yesterday - works out quite well if you've got a mistress or two, you can save some serious money buying in bulk.

  • +1

From previous experience they only get a handful of stock for each store. IMO you will be disappointed if you are going to aldi just for this.

    • +33

if you miss out on the roses then get some hummus instead. aldi hummus is fantastic.

      • +11

sorry marge, they ran out of roses but I got you some hummus….mmm….hummus….(drool)

        • +11

And if you do buy them you can go eat some flowers…my secret shame

        • +3

Well, at least that explains your mysterious trips to Holland!

    • +5

Most stores will be receiving 6 cases which has 8 units per case some stores are gettting double. Stores around the Hills district have higher volumes. If you plan to go in just before close today do not expect them to have heaps available.

    • +1

ALDI specials in my area are usually available for only a few hours for desirable items. The staff have to put up with 'when will you get more stock!?' type questions for a week. I like ALDI and shop for specific items there, but the poor stock levels for popular items make me think the specials are more of a bait item rather than a genuine offer.

      • Correct. It’s just traffic bait.

  • why buy..My roses are in full bloom..it's a day the americian's started,i tell my partner i love here every day not just one day a year.

    • +15

Well arent you a special snowflake

    • +6

When u say 'here', you mean 'her', right?

      • +22

Na mate, he tells her he loves OzBargain every day.

      • +8

His partner lives in America but he tells her that he loves it here without her and won't move back

    • +4

why buy..My roses are in full bloom

Should we PM you to get the pickup address?

    • Am I missing something here? Why the negs? It's nice that he tells his partner that he loves here everyday. Australia is a great place to live.

Seriously though, if he tells her that he loves her everyday that's just as sweet.

    • +57

It died after 2 days and never blossom :(

        • +13

I want to go to your Aldi.

        • @coxymla:

          Are you a hot chick?

        • @coxymla: automaton questioning his life: would you like a catalogue shoves catalogue

    • +4

You can give it from your left hand to right or vice versa, depending on your preference.

      • +4

Make sure to place in a vase before providing the 'reward'.
        - Nothing kills a horn like a thorn.

    • no deal if youre single.

You could buy them and pretend someone gave them to you. :)

  • +8

Get these and sell for $5 each to guilty partners outside a station somewhere. A nice day's work.

    • +2

these would normally cost over $100!

    • +3

Broden's Roses. Has a nice ring to it

  • it start today?
    did anyone got any?

    • +2

      hopefully tomorrow night ;)

  • +2

Does this have 60 day satisfaction guarantee? If I couldn't find a valentine then I'm not satisfied with the product

  • Take $50, buy plant, pot + soil from bunnings - it'll still be around in 2 weeks!
Alternatively, and what I personally will be doing, keep my $50!

  • The roses are quite small, their single roses and half dozen looked good in store.

    • Yeah I ended up with the half dozen as the 50 were quite small.

      • I saw the same thing, they were quite small, out of the two bunches I saw, one had a quarter wilted/bruised and the other had stains over the petals. The dozen roses did look pretty good though.

  • +6

If you missed out on flowers how about giving the gift of a poem?

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
    Aldi ran out of both
    So haha f*** you!

    :-)

  • Just got this from Aldi. Thanks OP!

If only the cardly card arrives in time then it's perfect. I ordered the card on 7th still no sign and paid for priority too. Auspost is sluggish

  • +3

Just dump your partner tonight, so you can save the $50.

Make up again on 15th, if you must.

    • This is what I will be doing.

      • Mrs Palmer?

  • +2

    I rose to the occasion
