  • How do get 3000 Amex points by purchasing $1000 voucher on Cashrewards?. This was mentioned in the post earlier here!

    • By using a platinum edge AMEX

      • will purchase of gift card be considered as a cash advance?

        • No, it will be considered as a purchase

  • FYI after more than 24 hours of not seeing my egift cards I called again this morning, and they have manually released the gift cards (12 orders of $105.26), should be all good now.

    • Did they question the number of orders or the amount?

      • Nope, no questions asked

    • I just call them and I was told that my cards are with payment verification team they took my basic information like phone number and mail id. I was also told that they will push payment team to push through the cards manually.

    • It happened to me before.I think it is due to multiple card numbers being entered in a short period, which surely cause suspicion. Now I always place another order after receiving the previous one. Also remember to remove the used card info in your account.Meanwhile, you can use different agencies(Cashrewards/PricePal/Weshopsmart,etc.)

  • Woolworths Marrickville have about 10 of these left @ Sunday 9am

  • Anyone know if the limit is per card or account. Are linked cards included in the limit of 10 ?

    • Each individual card even under one linked account is entitled to 10

  • Albury cbd woolworths had about 20 left at midday today.

  • Just bought 14 of these with egiftcard with 2x rewards cards. (I have 6 rewards cards so that I can alternate between cards, receive lower spend/higher bonus points offers).

The self-checkout dude was suss on me

  • I just bought 10 of these today but was wondering how to use them up. If you use say $70 on one and then there is $30 left what sites do can you pay for something it partial payment? can you pay off your credit card with these?

    • Can usually pay with multiple cards in store

  • +7

went to surry hils woolies today & none left. Saw that they use 3 visa card blutag on wall for this promo. Ask staff can i remove those 3 on wall… the look on their face LOL

    • Gold!!

  • I found where they all are - Big W. They have hundreds.

    • Depends on which suburb of which city..

  • Seem some stores are now restocking - found another 12 at one store that did not have previously
But the limit (10 per card) is now being enforced - as I tried buying further and would not provide any further bonus points.. and you only find out halfway through the purchase just before payment (luckily I just cancelled the purchase)

    • I've been limited to 4 each time I've gone. They wouldn't override.

      • That change was implemented on Friday afternoon as an emergency patch.. Someone in the know explained that this would only happen if Woolworths has detected something had gone really wrong (e.g. Collectively they may have sold way more than their stocks in hand),which may have lead to theft and loss team's intervention.

        • "collectively they may have sold way more than their stocks in hand" how is this possible? And if they over-sell why is it a loss or theft?

I think it's pretty normal that they apply this patch when they receive the reports that people seem to getting points no matter how many cards they buy. And that caused the stock to disappear quickly.

        • Sorry I don't quite understand your meaning.
How can they sell more than the stock at hand?
Edit: looks like superready and I posted the same question at the same time

        • @King Tightarse: Woolies sold more than they have in stock because of the theft of the unactivated gift cards from Coles, Big W etc.

        • @superready: See my reply above with regards to how Woolies can sell more than what they have. I am not sure what sort of agreement does Woolies have with Indue to cover the $10 (2000 points) rebate they are giving out to the customers for each VISA card sold, but one can assume that Woolies wouldn't be thinking about giving out more $10 than the maximum amount they could theoretically give out in the first place.

        • @feihong:
          Oh I get it.
People are stealing them to activate later, right. It surprises me that numbers are so high to be noticed already. Actually I would have assumed that people stealing them and activating in another store would be a tiny amount. Activated or not that is shoplifting and theft! I am surprised people would risk it.
          EDIT.
The more I think it the stranger it seems. Each card would have an entirely traceable provenance and every sale is uniquely associated with a members rewards account account and particular store. You would think that it would be relatively easy to scan for sales that are processed at the wrong site and the members cards associated with those sales.
I suppose they would end up cost/ benefit analyzing it and give. Still, it would be an obvious future implementation. Ie not able to activate a card not sold in the store.

        • +1

@King Tightarse: I think the problem here is that individual stores (Woolies, Coles, Target, Big W, Kmart etc) do not have a record of unique barcode for each gift card (that's for activation only), and they can only scan the short barcode (which only identifies what gift cards' types are) to track how many cards have arrived at a store. Therefore, the system can only pick up on abnormal activities well after the horse has bolted. To complicate things further, the stores from which the cards were stolen from may never know that their stocks have disappeared if the cards are not on the stocktake list.

        • @feihong:
Yes if that is the case it is a basic design flaw.
Well, if they can't trace them, I guess they will do one of three things: put them in the service area, not have any more similar promotions or just accept the loss as a working cost and make no changes.
This is Australia,"near enough is good enough" culture. My guess is for number three.

        • @King Tightarse:

what some people will do for Qantas points.

        • +2

Well that's what happens when you launch a promotion with no stock or very little stock and make no real effort to re-stock (although the $50 cards seem to be in the plenty now). It's dishonest of Woolworths.

You can't call using cards from Big W or Coles stealing given they "have no value until activated". Coles or Big W did not pay for them. No one loses out. This volume of activation's would have happened anyway if Woollies had sufficient stock.

I am ranting because on the day they launched this I drove to 6 stores wasting a ton of petrol and found a grand total of 1. Behind a counter. This was at 9.30am. Joke. So no sympathy for Woolworths on this one, sorry.

        • @singingwolf:
I agree that they did a piss-poor job of handling this promotion, but I don't agree with you about taking cards from one shop to another.
If you walk out of Coles with inactivated $100 Visa cards, you are still stealing then and there. You are not stealing $100 value sure, but they still have some value, they are not yours and you are shoplifting.

        • +2

@King Tightarse: They are not the property of Coles either. They are the property of Blackhawk. I am not saying I have done this - I am simply saying I understand why people are. To say that Woolworths could not reasonably expect this is also a joke as they would have seen what happened with the $88 cards and the Coles $100 cards (as they read these forums). Technically this was a bait and switch campaign given the fact that all the $100 hooks now have $50 cards on them.

        • +1

          @singingwolf:
          Fair enough.
I run by simple rules: if they are not the property of me, I don't take them.
I think it was more likely they just didn't anticipate the numbers correctly rather than conciously plan to bait and switch, which generally annoyed a lot of people but let's be real here; People are annoyed because they can't feed frenzy and get shit loads of free $10's in reward points. Ozbargainers are not normal customers ;)

        • +1

          @King Tightarse: That's right. We're professionals ;-)

        • +1

          @singingwolf:
You can clearly walk out of self serve at big w, Coles with unactivated cards as they are not tagged and the store alarm won't go off.

I wish there was a more equal system since you can't stop someone buying 30 cards over 3 accounts.
I agree with singingwolf as in hindsight we should have walked out with unactivated cards the day before. I've been to 6 stores and they are cleaned out. Complete utter waste of time.

        • +3

          @mmd:
If you walk out with items you did not pay for, it is shoplifting and the police will definitely charge you.
These companies sell the cards for $5.95 each, plus the loaded amount. That is their value. Whether these items are alarmed or not is not relevant. Whether you think a particular promotion is fair or not is also not relevant. Sorry if that comes over a bit rude mate but it's a crystal clear line.

You dumb shit scammers… Stealing cards from stores and using them in woolies to gain points!! Go away you hackers!!

    • like I said some people will go to any lengths to get points.

      • I can understand 1 card, but how do you steal 200 cards out of coles? LOL

        • Ozbargainers are professionals. Didn't you hear what Gerry Harvey said.

        • +1

I had to double check i'm not on Ozthieving.com.au

        • It already happened since long time ago.First with Westfield GC and then EFTPOS GC.Most GC professionals keep silent.

    • Lol, "hackers".

  • Hey hey

I bought a bunch of these cards thinking I could pay our two car insurances and home insurance.
NRMA and Allianz have both said via phone/post office/ Norma instore that they can't take payment from 2 credit cards

I was thinking of trying council rates and electricity?

I used the $88 eftpos ones last time at the post office for 4x passport renewals

All else fails will just be groceries but was hoping to pay something more substantial

Tldr What are ozbarginers using for?

    • +1

You can pay council rates and electricity with 1 Visa. I have done it with no problem. Hope that helps.

      • Thanks 👍

    • im hoping i can pay my car insurance and rego when it's due in July.. but hoping it wont be an issue paying with multiple Visa1 card at the postoffice..

      • Just pay rego online. It's designed to be used as a replacement for Amex.

    • I used one card at Woolworths and it worked. I tried using same one in a restaurant with Commbank tablet POS terminal. After swiping it asked for PIN and I couldn't continue because it doesn't have any pin. I tried multiple times with all three types "credit", "cheque" and "savings" just to be failed.
I think its payment terminal dependent. Can someone confirm if they had similar experience?

      • Press OK button when asked for PIN, & receipt to sign will print out. That is what happened to me. You are supposed to sign back of card too according to instructions in the packet.

        • Yep that's exactly what happened with me at Woolworths though. Have to press OK when it asks for pin and then you have to sign the receipt.

        • @CVonC:
OK button was not enabled until we punch 4 digits. It was one of that commbank's Tablet like terminal

    • +1

Last month I paid my car insurance with vpays from the Amex Harvey Norman deal. Used the old credit card payment by phone option. Keyed in credit card number, then amount paying with that card. Then 2nd card number, & remaining amount. Let me split payment across 2 cards. Did it on landline so I could input the card details on the fat desk phone buttons. Took me back to the old days before online bill payment.

  • I guess that some businesses (and councils) will still charge the credit card surcharge (?)

    • +1

      Some do
      Aldi 0.5%
      Our local council 1%

      • +3

For Aldi you should use the $88 eftpos cards, as there is no surcharge.

I also used the eftpos cards to top up my Virgin Mobile account in store. There is no surcharge this way either. As for the Visa cards, an example would be iiNet where you can add credit to your account without any surcharge.

This way you get the maximum benefit for these gift cards. Don't spend them at Coles/WW because you can always get more gift cards at 5 % off.

        • +1

To use these at Woolworths you buy new egift cards ($105.26)

Then use as normal in Woolworths or buy other brands of gift cards instore - david jones or similar when they have discounted cards promos

You do lose the advantage of paying a bill with 3 grocery credit card points rather then 1 point

  • Has anyone tried with a temporary woolworths card? I guess this should work right ?

    • You found stock?

    • I read somewhere in the rewards website that the rewards won't be available until you register the card. Didn't try it though.

    • -2

the points on the temp card will automatically vapourise after 1 month

Been to 6 different stores (VIC) and none had them, but plenty of $50 ones. Guess it's been ozbargained!!

    • which stores have you been to?

      • Forest Hill, Vermont, Scoresby, Ringwood

        • I can also confirm Preston, Northland, Bundoora, Polaris are all sold out. Probably greensborough too. Just spend an hour hopping and shopping at the last 2 stores.

    • Man I was keen to get in on this but once I saw my closest ones didnt have it I gave up :(

    • I spoke to a cust serv rep this morning, said only limited stock was released for this promo, and not all stores ranged it. People Broden-ing this also didn't help. All I wanted was 1 to convert an EFTPOS card for online use.

  • Well I can confirm this works;

Only1 Visa Card with $100 on it > but a $100 eGift card, x 10, get a temporary Woolworths rewards card from customer services > buy more cards > points are paid at checkout > register the temporary woolworths card after > Voila the Woolies dollars are in the new account.

I must be the biggest 'Peckerhead' that I know. Parkes NSW has stock. Found them on the last day of the sale. Was so excited that I bought 4 and forgot to scan my WOW card!! I gave myself an uppercut and bought 6 more but the damage was already done. Too depressed to do the maths, but made about $7 for an outlay of about $1000 :o(

    • Hopefully you earned some qff along the way. If you still have stock, buy more using the activated cards. Say, buy another 10 nrw cards using your 10 cards (choose split payments of $100, swipe card, then enter with no pin, then sign the signature pad on instruction from machine). You will earn another 10*$4 or so by way of new bonus points. But, you need to use a family Rewards card. …if the visa cards are not accepted for split payments then buy smaller ($100) wish cards in-store and then buy the new visa cards using your wish cards. Would take about 1 hours to go through this process though.

      • oh ok thanks. Is there any expiry on the Visa cards? I am prepared to double down!!

        • 1 year

        • @Turd:

          01/2019 for me

  • Anybody else notice the self serve attendant reprinting the receipt after leaving if you split payment a few times.

    • No, but am curious!

    • Stop / keep record in case of fraud?

    • I used 20 gift cards with varying small amounts to pay for my last two. I was there for about 15 mins. I think they thought I was retarded until I showed them the massive list in my woolworths app. She didn't reprint but wanted to see the receipt before I left.

  • Any left in the ACT?

  • +1

Just bought another 2 with the last of my wishcards at an out of the way woolies in wodonga south , they had about 50+ left.Forgot to check expiry date ,lucky it was 01/19.

Just tried a Visa at Coles. So easy.
Just swipe and done, no PIN reqest or pushing ok or anything. Just swipe and done. Peasy.

    • +1

      no signature ??

      • Nope. My coles has those new updated terminals if that makes any difference

        • +1

No signature either for me at Coles or at Maccas.

        • @bandana: now if you lose your card…

        • No signature required for me at Coles or Bunnings.

  • I used this card @Chemist warehouse, worked like a cream. You just need to sign on a Merchant copy at the end.!!!
