      • Yeah, good luck with getting the average Joe to do that process, probably better off unlocking bootloader and loading a custom ROM but it takes patience and a lot of understanding about what you're trying to achieve

Unless you've got a knowledge of flashing procedures and how to successfully root with a locked bootloader (in some cases you can root but in most you need unlocked boot loader, s-off whatever your phone calls it)

You and I are power users, 90+ % of the community wouldn't have a clue about where to start with root and modifications, it's not something you really want to dive into unless you've got experience with the following

Fastboot and what it does / how it works
        Bootloader unlocking
        Command line experience
Knowledge and fundamentals of android SDK etc
Knowing how to load correct USB drivers for your device
Knowing how to load twrp or another recovery
Knowing how to unbrick your device incase a flash goes wrong

XDA does help many people but I see a lot of posts where people brick their devices by stuffing around with things they have no idea about

Rooting isn't too difficult but it's not something you want to do unless you know what to do if something goes wrong, can brick a device quickly with root and granting some people full access to a device is dangerous, one reason why root user access is not enabled by default

Also with rooting you want to make sure you have a permissive based root rather than enforcing as android 7 is getting smarter with allowing applications root access within the selinux ecosystem

    • Yeah i'll be sure not to use that program which forces you to use internal storage.

According to the specifications, there is a micro SD card slot supporting up to a 200GB micro SD card. I'll just use my Transcend 32GB micro SD card. That's alright for storing MP3 and stuff.

    • Apps2SD has always been pretty crap with too many limitations and stuff. This should be on Marshmallow - so you should be able to use Adoptable storage to natively extend the storage out to the SD Card.

      https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xa/how-to/tuto-how-t…

That should fix the rather small internal storage and is a billion times better than Apps2SD or even Link2SD/Root.

Thanks OP. Just bought and got free shipping on my new account. Needed a new smartphone as my HTC One M7 is starting to play up like randomly restarting itself.

I'm a sucker for Sony's products, mostly because I think their physical design is head and shoulders above anything else on the market. But the company is, IMHO, run by idiots, and this is a perfect demonstration of it. They released the X-series phones not that long ago at stupidly over inflated prices. Because of the price point, they were reviewed against much higher-specced phones and got poor reviews as a result. Also because of the price point, they sold extremely poorly. So now they find themselves heavily discounting the same phones in order to get rid of them.

I don't suppose it occurs to anyone at Sony that if they had simply launched these phones at a more modest price point, they might have done quite well and would not now be discounting them like crazy.

It says it all that they are still selling the Z5 Premium for $900 on their website. That's a phone that came out in November 2015 and was under-specced even at release (I have the regular Z5 which is basically the same).

I'm in the exact same boat. Sony make amazing products but time after time manage to mess up pricing and device naming. The seem incapable of sticking with a naming system and so flit about which ultimately just confuses the average consumer.

That said I am going to purchase the XZ premium if the battery is decent as that is one awesome looking phone!

  • Not super fast but It's a very good looking and well made phone with a good cameras, somswings and roundabouts..

  • Battery heats up easily specially when camera is used. Battery performance is not satisfactory.

This is terrible phone, no wonder price dropped to $299.

I have the Xiaomi Mi Max…..Amazing fone and can blow this out of the water in everyday price and performance…Just a tip for folks who may be looking for an alternative "phablet".

I bought this phone at the last sale, it's a terrible device and as such i no longer use it after a month.

    Why?

    Takes forever to boot up.
Front facing camera is terrible in that selfies blur easily (see other reviews) and the front flash (reason I purchased) ALWAYS gives red eye.
There is so much bloatware that i could only install 15 apps before it kept complaining about space. Then it's time to play the delete apps game.
Rear camera isn't all that good either.
Website said you could use Playstation remote play, however you cannot.
    It's slow, real slow.
WiFi is pretty bad (see other reviews)

So from a user, I would not recommend anyone get this phone. I feel bad for people who paid $700 for this?! It's low end budget phone for sure. But there are way better budget phones out there.

edit: one more thing, no way you will get 2 days battery life, it's a very small battery for a phone this big.

      Is that you Mr Samsung?

      • Front facing camera is terrible in that selfies blur easily (see other reviews) and the front flash (reason I purchased) ALWAYS gives red eye.

Every review on the web says it has the best selfie cam on the market, and has OIS, so what are you talking about?

  • A lot of negative reviews towards the end of this post has me concerned I bit the bullet.

Don't be, it's an incredible phone for the price. Mine was delivered yesterday.

  • Why in the phone detail page shows in stock, while in checkout page, it's not available?

  • Thought this was a good deal at first but seems like a grey import is worth $360 delivered readily available on ebay so $300 for Aussie stock is alright but not worth $699 IMO

  • Just got an order confirmation email saying that it won't be shipped till mid April , not happy

    • Unlucky mate. Just got my confirmation saying it's with DHL and shipping shows its due to arrive tomorrow.. bought 5/03 10PM ish

      • damn ..I ordered mine on 6/03 10am ish

        • I ordered mine on 6/03 at 8:03am QLD EAST (about 9am ish AEDT) and it got shipped out the same day. I must be lucky. It must have been a space of an hour earlier made the difference.

    • I haven't even received a reply. I tried to ask if mine will be shipped and they said it will take two to three business days to get a response.

I'd rather not wait until mid April to get my phone. Anyone have any other recommendations for 5.5" + phones around $300 - $500. I'm a light/medium user (no gaming), looking for decent battery life.

      • Ive purchased a Oppo F1s and can recommend it. I got it pricematched from Officeworks for $299 (was a Optus version from Target) but normal price seems to be $350 odd (actually Mobilciti have it for $316 so you can get about through $300 OW price).

        5.5" Touchscreen
        720 x 1280 Resolution
        Corning Gorilla Glass 4
        32GB Storage
        3 GB RAM
        Octa-core 64-bit processor
        13 MP Rear Camera
        16 MP Front Camera

Thanks for the recommendation. I like the specs, but would prefer a larger 1080p screen.

Currently looking at the Redmi Note 4X or the Redmi Mi Max. Anyone have any information on how these compare, or what to grab? Only downside I can see from these two are the cameras. Would it be worth to lose real estate for better camera on the Xiaomi Mi 5?

        • @rlytoasti:

The Xiaomi Mi5 has the same resolution as its bigger Max counterpart, both are 1080p.

But it has more grunt in the CPU and graphics department at the expense of having a smaller battery and no memory expansion

Personally the Mi Max was way too big for me and I didn't like the size so that's why I stuck with my old Galaxy S5. It's well made and the photos it takes is to my standard, acceptable given the price.

The Mi Max is truly gigantic as a phone and its a lot heavier as well

Oppo is good for Joe but they don't upgrade their software from my researches. Never own one but many Websites saying their track record of android version upgrade is bad. :(

  • Currently sold out!

  • Currently sold out. Is showing as currently unavailable.

I'm glad i bought it yesterday morning and got it shipped out yesterday also and due to be delivered tomorrow. Also bought a flip cover case for the Xperia XA Ultra from an eBay seller.

  • Mine was delivered today through Australia Post. I can't use it yet as i'm still waiting for a flip cover case for it to arrive so it doesn't get scratched. But it does appear to be a really nice phone.

Got my phone setup today and it works great. Android Marshmallow is currently the latest Android version available for the Xperia XA Ultra. Seems that Nougat isn't yet available for this. But it's an incredible phone for the price.

  • Ordered mine on the 6/3 and got the confirmation email…now got the email that its unavailable and money will be refunded. Rubbish. As if the maker and supplier don't have any stock…

    • I ordered mine on the 6/3 too and i did get mine, but i did order and pay via mastercard debit earlier in the morning around 8am AEST. I must have just snuck in before the daily order dispatch cut off time (which according to Sony is supposed to be 9am) and before all stock sold out.

      • I ordered mine on 6th March too, but received an email from Sony on the Friday saying they couldn't complete my order due to unprecedented demand. Still waiting for my refund via PayPal!

        • +1

They got Ozbargained! Bad luck mate.

  • I don't know why some people have been complaining about poor battery life. I've had my brand new Xperia XA Ultra on from a full charge since early this morning and it's still on 91% charge. At this rate i'll get days worth on one charge if i don't use it too much.

  • Shame to miss this - great price!

  • Ordered on 7th March but on 10th March advised no further shipments of this model. If you where told April like us, may be in for a rude shock. They are releasing a range called Xperia XA1 and believe one will do 4K video and playback.
