Sorry but how is this a deal

  • +4
    • +1

Most areas, for me it quoted $999 for shipping…

      Sony is Australia wide.

  • +1

It's a great TV at a great price. I thought I had a bargain at $1350 in January. +1 from me

    • Thinking of pulling the trigger, you recommend it?

      • +73

        No, call Lifeline

      • I have the X8500D and couldn't be happier with it

        • What does the extra 1500 get you?
          (Serious question)

        • +6

@Gman: Extra $500 when you get it on sale
HDR 10 (though I think the X7000 may get this via software update)
          Native 100Hz over 50Hz
Stand the other half liked more*
          (*main reason…)

        • +1

@reidy76: also,7000d has horrible image retention, thats the reason i bought 8500d for a higher price

        • @reidy76: extra $400 even looking at the difference in price on the sony site ($1098 vs $1498)

Just wondering if you can (easily) wall mount the X7000D and the X8500D ? we have it on a table at the moment but thinking about how easy it is to get it up on the wall (to keep it away from 2 and 4 year olds..)

      • I bought it last year for similar money. Great TV. Most visitors comment on the picture quality and ask if its 4K, even though I have no 4K content (so it does a fair job of upscaling).
Also loving the Android OS, which is even more useful with toys like the Google Home (you can chromecast to it).
Just a bit annoyed that I can't pair bluetooth headphones with it (the comparable Samsung could), but you can pair a PS4 controller? Ugh, Sony. [that said, I should check if I can output the audio to the controller when paired, as you can with the PS4 itself…]

      • I have the 8500D, it has poor blacks, and poor HDR.
For example, when a bright light comes on in an otherwise dark scene, the dark bits will become noticeably brighter.

The TV guide is badly implemented (it cuts out the TV for a second when entering and leaving the guide).

It's fair to assume the 7000 will be the same or worse. (The 9500 is much better, but also much more expensive)

I would recommend looking at the equivalent Hisense instead, unless you really want the Android OS.

  • +1

Be interested to hear if anyone has compared it to the Hisence 55M7000UWG

    • +3

Be interested to hear if anyone has compared it to the Hisence 55M7000UWG

      It's better in all respects.

      • +5

Why the downvotes? I've compared the two at JB, and the Sony is clearer, seems to have a faster refresh rate, brighter, and it has Android TV. I never knew how much I needed Android TV until I got it. It's got built in casting ability, you can install Android games (only those optimised for TV) , and you can configure it like crazy. I'm keeping an eye out for a deal on a 40" Sony.

        • +10

          Why the downvotes?

HiSense owners area upset at their mistake in purchasing a second rate tv.

I've compared the two at JB, and the Sony is clearer, seems to have a faster refresh rate, brighter, and it has Android TV.

Exactly the difference is like night and day between them, the Sony is superior in all respects. Look at all the owners complaining about pixel and light bleeding issues from the recent 4K deals and how they expected a premium TV set with top notch panel and quality control.

        • +2

I have used both the Opera (Hisense TV OS) and Android OS. Android is miles ahead, it's a major difference and should factor into your purchasing decision.

Of course you can always get a Mibox or similar to run android TV but it's a bit of extra cost.

        • +1

+1 for the not knowing I needed Android TV

        • @reidy76: As far as I know, you can only add one Google account, so if you don't want your daughter's Just Bieber music videos in your YouTube history, get your family to cast things to the TV instead of using the remote. That's what we used to do anyway, when we used the Chromecast.

        • @Maverick-au: Definitely agree about Android TV. I prefer it night and day and wish i had it. Picture quality between the two though using 720p, 1080p, and 4k content i have to disagree a bit, i found it a toss up depending on what it was, some things both upscaled and simply looked better on the Hisense to me. I found it a tough decision. Maybe i calibrated the TV different to you though. Likewise others the Sony did look better for some content too. I did think the Sony handled some motion a bit better. I ended up getting the Hisense as it was cheaper and longer warranty, and i have chromecast ultra already, and pretty happy with it so far. That said, i am also on the look out for a killer deal on the Sony for the bedroom (looking for cheaper than this haha).

    • I have the Sony 8500, and I think the Hisense is much better value for money, and possibly a better choice.

Sony has better: "motionflow" hi refresh rate stuff, and Android (I only use Netflix, which Hisense also has)

Hisense has better: dark blacks, local dimming

In my in-store tests, the Hisense showed minor motion judder when looking for it, but it's quite likely that appropriate settings can minimize it.

There is no setting on the Sony to fix its weak blacks. Watching a dark show with subtitles is almost unbearable as the background gets much brighter whenever a subtitle is on screen, then gets dark when the subtitle goes off… (Same effect happens if, say, a bright spot of light comes on screen)

Cheaper at The Good Guys eBay including delivery with CAU5 Code - $1040.25 + $35.44 Delivery = $1075.69

Also slightly higher cashback on eBay.

Stack with the Sony $100 voucher and you could have it for under 1K?

Shit Tv saw it at Jb hifi hisense 7000 or in my opinion samsung are better

  • +2

been looking into TVs as I'm buying one in the next week, from my obsessive research that I normally do with expensive (for me) electronic purchases, it looks like the Hisense series 7 are a better tv in this price range ($1195 at HN), and come with a 3 year warranty.

    • +6

3 year in-house warranty, I believe. That's one of things I was considering when I was comparing Sony's and Hinsense's TVs.

      • Even better, less mucking around with the retailer. Going to pick mine up on Sunday, keen as!

    • Do you have a link to it? :)

    • Is it possible to install apps manually on this TV ? Like IPTV etc.

      • Err not sure on that one, but I didn't see it come up in any forums so I'd be leaning towards no.

        • That's was my impression as well. I know exactly that it's possible on LG & Samsung and, of course, Android TVs like the one in this thread.

      • Shall be able to, I got mine working with other SONY smart TV. just search sideload app

    • +1

Hisense 55/7000 is cheaper by $140 here - https://www.1able.com.au/televisions-projectors/tvs/ultra-hd… - from this OzB thread for the Hisense 65/3300 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/298094

  • Website not working and forget ringing the call centre - absolutely useless rep - couldn't even understand what I was after and kept on telling me this is a 43 inch TV, even though I had the correct dimensions showing on the Good Guys website.

    • Are there any Sony Kiosk's in WA? I had a Google but couldn't find any information.

      • +2

Offer is only available at the Sony Kiosk Chatswood, Sony Kiosk Castle Hill and Sony Kiosk Parramatta. Offer is not available online or at other retailers. Offer is valid until 31 March, 2017.

  • You can get this tv for $1095 in Harvey Norman on 50 month interest free installments. No Brainer really.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/tvs/t…

    • +7

You'll need to pay $4.95 extra per month for 50 months as wel + a $25 once off fee for the credit card.

      • I have a Gem Visa which has only a flat $99 yearly fee and automatically gives 6 months interest free for any transaction over $250 and is eligible for 50 month interest free deal.

Would recommend applying for that card.

I have this Tv and recommend it although the android bit has its bugs.

        • creditline is 4.95 x 12 which is $60 a year and has those same terms

  • +1

I would personally go for 8500D.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Sony-KD55X8500D-55-139cm-UHD-…

After 5% ebay deal and 2.6% cashrewards it comes down to $1,381.

    • But with the same method at same store, that 55X7000 would be just a bit over 1K. $350+ is a lot for the differences in features between the 2 in my opinion, especially in the lower price range.

  • My 2014 55" Sony KDL made a frying/fizzing sound this week and won't turn on anymore.

Lucky I bought extended warranty from JB!!

    • Wow usually that's where they make their money. Guess it was worth it.

    • +1

I've had a similar issue (with a different model, 2012 Samsung.) There's a bunch of possible causes but a common one is to do with the backlight. A temporary measure to significantly reduce (but not eliminate unfortunately) the buzz/fizz is to play around with backlight settings in the menu - dropping it 3 or 4 notches almost completely removed the annoying sound for me. Not a perfect workaround but will help me get an extra year or so out of the tv…

    • Make sure you dry it out before tying to claim the warranty replacement 💦

    • +2

I'd expect a 55" TV to last a good 5 years, you shouldn't need any purchased extended warranties to have JB take care of it.

  • Huh.. decent TV. I was going to get a 65" 4K from Aldi tomorrow - now I'm unsure.

    Sony:

    Minus:
    10" smaller
    $200 more

    Plus:
It's a Sony. My wife loves Sony gear.
    HDR

    • +10

I've learnt my lesson with cheap/no brand TV's. Better off forking out a little more.

    • -5

Your wife has good taste. Stop buying junk and have something you would be proud to show your friends in your lounge room.

      • +5

I downvoted your comment only because you're worried about your friends' approval of your TV. I hope people don't seriously think like this.

        • Affluenza personified. The putrid side of our consumerist culture, must show off to the jones's next door, or keep up with them.

      • +1

TIme to buy some Sony stickers :)

  • Comes down to $974 with the $100 code and cashback. Not bad.

    • where is the code ?

      • In your email if you completed the survey

        • hmm.. I just completed the survey now, and it can take up to 7 days to get the voucher. But T+C's say that you had to complete by 16th March..

if anyone isn't going to use their voucher, really appreciate if you can send it to me.

The 49" X8000D series is also on sale for $999 from the Sony Store - http://store.sony.com.au/KD49X8000D.html#start=1

Anyone bought this? It doesn't have local dimming, not sure how big a difference that makes.

    • I'm very tempted. Current TV (Sony Bravia W800 series) is on it's way out. Any reason not to get this for <$1000 for use with a PS4/Pro?

    • Now that is a nice deal..

extra $50 Myer gift card if you buy from Sony Kiosk too..

  • I just went and had a look at the 55" X8500d (X850D) - http://store.sony.com.au/KD55X8500D.html#start=1 - $1498.

Also available from JB/HN for same $1495, around $1420 from TGG Ebay store with the 5% off.

Looks very nice, I don't know if it's worth it though to pay an extra $450 or so (inc delivery) for an extra 6" of screen !

  • +1

Just a heads up, went to Costco today and it was $999, damn I could have waited for another few days. Wonder if JB price match costco and refund the differences (they have 7 days price guarantee)

    • No they won't.

      • thats what I thought, but if you have to get it at $1098. Better to buy at TGG, they have 1 month price guarantee. JB & Harvey only 1 week.

  • Damn, I wanted to grab this TV but I never got an e-mail back with the $100 off $500 code. How long did it take for people to receive theirs? I clicked the e-mail over a month ago :(

    • I never did receive mine, bastard Sony!

  • I got it for $1040 through eBay today using CAU5 and pock up from good guys.

  • It's a long shot, but I don't suppose a it the has a coffee for the Sony survey offer they aren't going to use?

    • Whoa, I need to check spelling before posting.

I was checking for a coupon for the $100 off from completing the survey

  • +3

FYI: I just went to JB and asked if the can price match with Costco, sale guy happy to match $999 with delivery.

  • Ended up getting the x8500d from harvey norman for $1450 delivered.

  • jb hi fi Blacktown done it with with there gift card $100 for $1098 in total, pick up in store
TV price $998 plus $100 gift card total 1098

  • $999.99 at costco Liverpool. Worth the buy? Looking to buy one.

    • +1

Arriving tomorrow, will let you know :)

      • Chhers bud waiting to hear from you. I heard there is a 30 sec delay on start up.

        • Ok so, got the TV.

          Easy to install.

Turned on and if you have an android phone, you can set up your TV with it in a click. It even copies the WiFi password.

Picture is amazing, UI is great. Only bad thing is the TV take a bit to connect to the WiFi upon turning on. Other than that perfect. Remember only HDMI 2 and 3 have 60fps 4K. It's a setting you have to turn on too.

        • @apptrack: thanks bro you reccomend I go pick it up than :)
Did you get extended warranty? One year sounds scary.

        • @belesci: I got it delivered online. And nah I didn't…

  • Dumb question: I wouldn't need xioami mi tv box with this to use kodi, right?

    • +1

      Correct

      • cheers for answering

    $999 at Costco Auburn yesterday.

    • any idea when that deal ends?

  • +1

Ordered this just over a week ago and now wish I hadn't. Sony post-sales support has been appalling… Any tips on getting through to someone competent??

I received a tracking number after a couple of days, but it still isn't working over a week later.
I contacted support via email, but was told they couldn't see my order status. They promised to follow up, but a week later I'm still waiting.
I phoned post-sales support and couldn't get any status on my order. So I asked to cancel the order, and was told I couldn't as it had been shipped, yet my online order status still shows as "Not shipped".

I would have ordered through Good Guys but their sale price has finished, so waiting for another good deal on this (or similar) TV.

    • +1

Oh the link is broken… Same goes for their site.

If you open your invoice sent to you, there will be Connote :Delivery Number field. Get that and then go to DHL and profit :)

      • Thanks for the tip but unfortunately that still doesn't work. The connote number in the invoice is the same one as the email. And neither the connote number or delivery number work on the DHL web-site.
