  • Nice post, I just wish they had something I actually wanted on special :/

  • As always, a plus from me just for the effort (and because some of them are quite good bargain).

    • I believe only the pepsi was mentioned yesterday, Coles do have weekly specials you know :)

    • please check, the title.

    • -4

Can you link to all the other posts which list their entire catalogue? (Also, please spell catalogue correct, this isn't America).

      • I'm going with "catalog", myself.
The extra "ue" add nothing in tone or nuance to the word. Just a pointless leftover from the Poms.

        Language evolves.

        • +2

Brother, I find you're attitude doubleplusungood.
The word is derived from French.

          • @bargainhunter: Yes, very good.
I was going to suggest a leftover from post renaissance court language as interpreted by pre-standarised English but I thought that may overshoot the mark somewhat.
I think the word key is "derived" though.
American spelling, other than it's obvious phonetic logical advantage can perhaps be demonstrated to be more correct than "modern" English spelling as the it was quickly standardised across the country as it was pioneered and did not suffer the aristocratic affectations that befell British English which knew no standardisation until much later in time.

            • @King Tightarse: Nonetheless, it's not about historical correctness or convenience, but simply of following the local style. Catalogue/catalog is a borderline case, but I think you will not be forgiven for using color instead of colour.

And anyway we should go all the way as Mark Twain's spelling reform joke proposed. :)

              • @retiredfeline: True, although with the "our" suffix the Macquarie recognises both the "our" and the "or" as interchangeable within Australia.
Note it's the Austalian Labor Party, not Labour. See also that many Australian newspapers (Faifax group for example) insist on the "or" spelling within their style guide.

I have never heard of Mark Twain's spelling reform joke. Will look it up. :)

      • The United States you mean ;)

    • thats a good effort by the OP..not eveyone knows about the specials..OP you get my +1

Why do people always have to click posts they don't like and criticise them? If you don't like it, ignore it. Simple.

  • +1

The mighty soft bread is a great deal, isn't that a BOGOF?

  • +5

for typing everything in order, worth a positive :)

  • +2

Thanks for taking the time to do the type up.

  • +1

    thanks for typing.

  • Thanks for typing that in. I'll go for the $1 soft drinks.

  • Awesome post, average Coles specials! Nice work!

  • Thanks - haha… now those fliers can go straight to bin…

    • +1

      Recycle bin we hope ;-)

    • +1

If Coles had any brains they'd assign someone to post a summary here each week instead of wasting paper and ink. lol!

      • They have brains. That's why they printing the fliers to reach other 99.9% people who never heard of OzBargain.

        • No, they have brains because they know we are tightarses here and only buy the cheap stuff. :)

But how long can they go on like that? Traditional newspapers are doomed and so too paper flyers. One of these days one of the chains will get a clue and publish an iPhone and/or Android app, if they haven't already. Even their online catalogues are slavish reproductions of the paper version.

      • If someone posts it online for them here they don't have to spend any money (or take flack)! Also not eveyone is as tech savvy as us. I personally write my shopping list on it and take it with me/put it into the glovebox for the next shopping trip. If they give me a free iPhone/iPad in my letterbox I will reconsider ;-)

If people don't want the catalogue they should just put a sign on their letter box and view it online (if they want). Let the rest of us enjoy looking at bargains in the free, delivered catalogues while we can ;-)

        • Nah, not suggesting you give up your fix of petroleum based colour inks. :)

Just commenting that they are falling behind the times in not exploring another means of publicity. Probably not worth their while for me at least because I just pick up the bargain(s) and head for the checkout.

  • +1

    great post.
    very good summary.
some people do not get catalogues due to shitty delivery service.
some people need a reminder to get some stuff.
    thanks a lot.

    • Agree. I don't live near any Coles store hence never seen one. But I'm working near a Coles store and almost visit it once a week whenever see a good bargain.

I like how Coles is like, "Oh sh***! Woolies are having 50% off! Quick lets do the same!"

    • Have you noticed that it also works the other way around?
Maybe you didn't simply because Woolies' 50% off usually starts in Monday, which you associate as the first day of the week (hence Woolies seems to always have 50% off first).

    • Promotions are generally organised months in advance with suppliers. Often the suppliers will push for a promotion/prominent shelf space with one supermarket one week and then the other to boost sales. There's a lot more too it and it's not as reactionary as it might seem - For starters they wouldn't be able to get extra stock to stores nationwide and produce/ship a catalogue in a few days!

    • being a critically-acclaimed shopaholic (in my social circle), i can tell you that last year, coles had wayyyyyyyyyy more 50%-offs than woolworths had.

..and that's when WOOLIES went "Oh FUDGE!"

  • thanks for the post XD love the seafood marinara mix

    • I've put this mix on bamboo skewers and put on the B.B.Q, yummo P

    • +1

Does anyone know the country of origin?

      • +1

        Probably not, Coles included.

  • where do you copy n paste all of this from? ya don't seriously type it all, eh?

  • +1

Moro Olive Oil 4L is $24.99 in NSW not $20 hth

    • and the mccains lasagne was definately not on special

  • -1

Will probably buy the 2.4L Berri Juice for $3, maybe the 1/2 price coon cheese if they have low fat in the shredded, and some pepsi's.

I'm all for the 1/2 price deals, but weekly specials like those are not what i would call "bargains". I think maybe you should stop posting the "Honourable mentions". Coles have those 2.4L Berri juices on special for $3, nearly as frequently as every 2nd week.

If you buy too much olive oil at one time, it starts to get stale, or go rancid. So i'm never buying those 4L bulk amounts. Who buys those things other than food outlets & restaurants?

    • I've had my Moro oil for about 2-3 months. I always keep it capped in a cool place and it's still as good as the day I brought it.

      • +2

I married into an Italian family, so they don't classify the 4L olive oil as "bulk"

  • +1

    Time to stock on pies.

    • Especially going into the Footy finals :)

  • Just went.
No pies on special in Sydney Coles.

  • Damn, No squid on special.

    • I can't see any lobster either - rubbish ay it!

  • what happened to national priceing?

  • nice post i appreciate the time and effort you put into this :)

  • -4

The pies and lasagne along with half the other items wasn't on special in NSW, The stores had other stuff like half price frozen pizza for $3. So I'll assume there are different specials for each state.

There's probably a lot of people that went out expecting these specials. Op should've mentioned that it was only available in his state and what state he was in.

    • I assume catalogue is Aus wide, but please check locally. Please read it in full.
