    Looks like the 40" KDL40EX600 RRP $1599 (wi-fi model)

    http://www.sony.com.au/product/kdl-40ex600

This looks like the cheapest I could find on this model.

  • Looks like a good deal.

Note: DSE had this model onsale @ $1398 from $1600 just 3-4wks ago.
Bought it too as it was a good price at the time.
No budging from the sale guy as it was 'at cost'. Ha.
Now Another Price drop - So don't trust their pricing and try to negotiate even on sale price.

because of the low pricing on the kdl40ex700 model ( 100hz advertised in a few place $1499ish ) , Sony gave all retailers a discount to buy this one….thats why the low price. This only happened a week or so ago.

Wow this is really cheap! Thanks!
Before going to DSE to pick one up though, can anyone confirm if the USB plays MKV and if it supports a file format of NTFS?

    • From their website: USB 2.0 1 (Side) : Photo (JPEG, RAW), Music (MP3), Video (AVC, AVCHD, MPEG4, DivX)

      • Yeah but sometimes they don't list all the formats.
It's alright. Going to DSE to try today.

Don't forget to format your USB in FAT32, not NTFS…most TVs I've seen cannot read NTFS! ;)

          • @StewBalls: some tv's do ntfs. Theyre the ones im looking for because fat32 only reads files that are less than …2gb or 4gb (i forget which one).

            • @ywpn: Yes, FAT32 has a file size limitation of 4GB or thereabouts…sounds bad on paper but in practice it's actually not that much of an issue! ;)

              • @StewBalls: it is an issue because my movies are 6gb haha

                • @ywpn: Splitting them's a snap, problem solved dude! ;)

      • Sorry to the person who neg'd me, I was just trying to help. Sorry I couldn't please you.

tried it at hn. Didnt even read my 320gb hard drive. Still a good deal though :)

    • Probably a low power USB port, so it couldn't power up your portable hard drive.

      • yeah :( the lg's played mkv but it didnt play back audio (the file had dts audio) and the samsungs played it perfectly. Very suprised at the sonys though

  • Before you purchase, beware that this is a 50hz refresh rate tv. Sony also offers 100hz and 200hz models which you may find have a smoother flow of motion. $1299 appears to the street price for the KDL40EX600. For $200 more or less, you may wish to consider the Sony KDL40EX700 which is 100hz.

i personally think this whole motionflow is gimmick. but thats me, who watches zero sports. i've got a 100hz sony and there is no real world improvement for tv or movies, and you'd use 24hz mode for movies anyway!

if i had the choice between 10% discount or motionflow, i'd take the discount.

      • Couldn't agree more, I know a few folks who actually turn off the MC on their 100hz sets, the judder caused by the compensation algorithm irritates them so much! ;)

    • i think 200hz is for 3DTV…which i think is a gimmick anyway

      • i dont think 3D is gimmick, as it is the largest single jump in multimedia realism since BW became colour.

however a 3Dtv right now is largely useless due to the lack of content. this will not be the case any longer in a few years. 3D will be adopted gradually just like bluray and dvd at release. both have taken about 5years to achieve good market penetration.

i would bet that many people thought colour tv was a gimmick in the 1950s.

        wiki:
"Although introduced in the U.S. in the 1950s, only a few years after black and white televisions had been standardized there, high prices and lack of broadcast material greatly slowed its acceptance in the marketplace. It was not until the late 1960s that color sets started selling in large numbers"

replace "black and white televisions" with HDTV, and "color sets" with 3DTV lol

        • Lol, I remember when CTV was first introduced, one (rich, but nice) family in the street had a set & all us kids used to go around there to watch cartoons…I hadn't realised the programs would look so different!!! Nice analogy dude! :)

Frankly though, I'm not impressed with the LCD shutterglass tech they're using for current generation 3DTV; to be honest I don't think the technology has improved a great deal since the early days! I had a Vrex VRSurfer in the late '90s for games & the odd compatible VHS movie, and to be brutally honest I don't reckon the refresh rates for the shutters have increased too much in more than a decade, still pretty "flickery" IMHO! :p

However, once they can ratify a better, less cumbersome method; be it RealD style polarising or one of the "no-glasses" panels under development; yep I agree it will usher in a new age of home theatre entertainment! ;)

    • I do agree with you. At Dick Smith , I was watching these LED and LCD TV with UP Animation movie ending. I saw a flickering, when the numbering was moving up in normal LCDs and LED with 100hz motion was smooth and good.
I think, it makes a difference with good Refresh rate.
      I say again, I think.
