    • 86 reviews compared to the 20,000 plus student at RMIT alone and may use the co-op ….. sounds like mamamia and anti-vaccination bloggers ….. Melbourne uni would be 30,000 plus students, not all use co-ops BUT compared to 86 whingers statistically insignificant

    • Looks like a scammy website. They are proly living off the $25 membership sales..

  • +1

    Waiting for the drama…

  • Assuming the sale is legit, are the other Samsung stuff, like the S6, S5, Note 5 and tablets also good prices? http://www.coop.com.au/c/promotions/may-sale/technology/sams…

    • +2

the S5 and S6 are close to realistic good prices considering prices that have appeared in the past at HN, Kogan, etc. But the S7, co-op web site says $1099.

  • +1

really worried about ordering now, i thought it was a good price :(

  • About that..
the price of the s7 just went back to 1000dollars as membership,it seems like a error on purpose

  • -1

So is it still available or out of stock?

    Love to buy one OP

  • +7

The bastards at the co-op will take your membership money and then cancel your order and not refund you the membership money- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/301218

    • -7

$25 is a small loss for a life lesson and personal development ….. $25 would be 7 minutes on a psychiatrists couch
"doctor, I have a problem, can't stop buying bargains even if too good to be true, what should I do ?"
"sorry times up you've used your 7 minutes".

      • Dr Katz

      • Lol I wish psychiatrists earned that much. It's one of the lowest earning medical specialities according to the ATO

  • +1

heres the person you complain to

  • I got one of those physical coop card memberships, anyone know if i can link online to get member prices

    • depends which institution seems RMIT is now one of their shops.

      • What do you mean?
I joined up on coop shop when i was in sydney uni 11 years ago. Any way to link that online

It's about half the cheapest price on the internet. Bit too good to be true.

  • +1

Gave it a go. Worst that can happen is no product, thrn I'll just get money back through PayPal, leave them a negative review and let the ACCC deal with them. Learn from it and move on.

    • +3

How many hours of your time would that take and is it worth your time?

  • +1

does anyone know if u can gift from that coop website?

thing is sister is the coop member, and i want to take delivery with my name.

  • My order status is "reviewing". How long did it take before you guys get an order confirmation?

    • You'll find out tomorrow when your allocated store staff receive your order.

    • +3

no point, it'll get cancelled anyway. All they do is send your order to a store who check their inventory and reject your order.

      • +1

We'll find out soon enough, just how good there stock take skills are.

Coming from a uni, I'm guessing it stinks because the person running the site is currently doing the course :)

  • +2

Don't bother with this mob honestly.

  • -3

it is a price mistake, just look at their other phones: http://www.coop.com.au/c/shop/technology/smartphones and the price difference between member and non member…

  • Thanks op… hopefully its successful

  • Wait, their whole tablet collection and samsung smartphone collection is heavily discounted, not just this S7. Even their Tab S2 9.7 is supposedly $209.70 for members. Not sure what's going on…

    • +6

What's going on is their monthly membership grab.
      Nothing more, nothing less.

      • +1

I'm already a member so it doesn't hurt to try

    • saw the Tab S2 9.7 for 209.70 so i bought one as well … we will see what happens

      • the cellular version for $254.70 worth it?

note 5 is also on "sale" for $329.70.

        • Cellular version for 254 is a great price. However, for my own uses, I'd spend $50 less for WIFI only

        • Where do you find the cellular version; could you share the link ? I can only see the Wifi model.

  • Grabbed one…we'll see what happens.

  • +6

    You buy item
    Item out of stock
    They refund cost of item
    They keep member fees

Net gain -$25 or wasting hours chasing your $25 back.

    • +7

So many businesses/companies do that these days and unless they get fined heavily, they'll keep pulling that sht.

In this case, coop should definitely refund people's member fees because people will be losing money as oppose to getting a full refund.

If 2000 people bought something by tomorrow morning and it gets cancelled, then that's $50,000 profit for them.

      • unconscionable conduct

        • it says my order got redirected to distribution centre

  • Tab A was also cheap so purchased one of those as well.

    • which one is better? S2 or A?

      • +1

Purely spec POV, s2 is a lot better.
S2 has their AMOLED 2k screen + others which you should be able to check GSM arena

  • So I went thru and purchased a phone and the membership with no issues
Then went back to get a tablet
Logged into the site with my membership
And it made me buy the memebership again to purchase the tablet
Is this right? Happen to anyone else?

    • You should only need the one membership

  • +1

Already a co-op member. I am a bit pissed off to find out my giftcard with $100 on it is empty and definitely not expired.
I purchased things in the past from these guys and never been a great experience. I was given a brand new computer with the login for the store setup and they tried to justify it as new. (No it was not mentioned as a display model and yes I paid full price)

  • +3

They sell the membership not the product, it's just a pricing error, stay away from this website.

  • my order s7 was updated as partially dispatched . hopefully its genuine.

  • +1

    All S7 Out of Stock

  • +4

Not these scammers again. They put on deals which require membership, sell you the product then refumnd eventually but keep the membership money.

  • I

  • -1

Says it's still in stock. Have just successfully placed an order!

    • +1

If you look at the car carefully it will say item is out of stock. maybe they will accept the order and source it again.

      • It showed limited stock when I ordered

  • +3

Received this email this morning (for a tablet):

It looks like you've ordered an item that is not currently available.

Your order has been directed to our Customer Care Team to find the quickest way of supplying this to you.
Some special orders may take some time to source and we will contact you as soon as we have the information and expected delivery date.

    • which tablet?

      • Tab A 10.1 Note

  • +2

The customer service team in Co-Op is amazing!!!!!!!!!They will respond to your complaints that made by e-mail in two months :(

  • +8

    This shop should be banned

  • +7

    Good bye to $25 fellas..

  • You guys need to chill. If anyone gets this phone for that price it is a worthy bargain.
Another note, I received slightly different email to that above.

"It looks like you've ordered a special product that can only be supplied by our Distribution centre so we've redirected your order
    to them"
Edit* I still had my $5 lifetime membership from years ago so I'm good either way.

    • +3

I received the same mail as you. People should specify how many phones they bought, I reckon some of the comments above are for bulk orders. I bought 1 edge and 1 one normal s7.

    • I received a similar email from the last offer on Fitbit. Only received the email and a refund for the fitbit after couple of weeks.

  • Since the product catalogue says 'in stock' and has a price of 374 (for the S7 Edge), has anyone considered taking that to somewhere like Jb Hifi for a price-match?
Since the co-op online store is linked to university physical bookshops, it might fit with price matching policy?

    • I don't think any shop would dare risk the wrath* of management for price matching that far below cost.

    • +1

because it's "member pricing" they probably won't price match.

  • +4

The co-op deserves a ban, I've seen others banned for less. "New" stock is often used. Then don't get me started on their ordering system … after years of monumental screw ups … they still allow customers to "buy" items when they are out of stock - then go through the painful refund process. Last time they "sold" 600 fitbits and they allegedly had 75. This time around we got the added bonus of the item being "in stock" then miraculously "out of stock" once in the cart. BAN THEM!

  • Is this unlocked?

    • +8

      no its locked to CO-OP

      • You mean i cant put telstra sim there?

        • +1

wont fit, you need a crook sim

  • Anyone bought from them before? Is this legit?

    • +2

They are a nation wide bookstore catering mostly to university students with (to my knowledge) at least one physical store located in Macquarie University in Sydney (I went there).

I've also purchased video games on clearance from them for $5 each a couple of months ago, yes they are legit (stock issues not withstanding)

    • +1

Bought the cheap games from them about a year ago, it was an error by they honoured for all ozbargainers. But sounds like service has slipped in the meantime, and forcing memberships to get that price is a scam unless there is guarantee of stock.

  • Still letting me order
    Weird

    • Membership…

      • +1

got one, im at uni already with coop

  • +1

Hope who ordered gets them :)

  • +2

Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me. My first purchase was a "new" xbox one game that was clearly used with scratches all over it. My second purchase was an "in-stock" item they didn't stock.

    • +1

You should always report such misrepresentation to the appropriate government agency. Not just their customer support.

  • +11

I was just on the phone with Co-op.

The good news: all prices are legit, they are honouring the deal for people who got in (very) early.

The bad news: Back orders are unlikely to be fulfilled, they have 208 Galaxy S7 on backorder, the rep I spoke to suggested I should cancel my order :(
Also, even if you didn't get an "out of stock" email, your order may still be cancelled as there isn't stock in the store despite being listed as "in stock" online.

    • ill believe it once someone posts a pic of their CO-OP Samsung.

      • +2

Lol, I guess that won't be me.

But feel free to call them to confirm, I've got no incentive to make this up :)

    • +1

Wonder how many people on here scored?

This deal has only 87+ votes so I'm guessing less than half would of actually bought a phone, that's a great way for coop to cancel orders.

Would be nice to do a poll and see how many people on here will get there order.

      • +1

        You forgot about Brodens…

Honestly I feel like Co-op had a decent amount in stock across its stores, just sold out really fast

      • +3

well there are 4000+ click throughs from … the silent parasitic majority

      • +1

There are non-members that can browse and order too

        would of

        would have :P

      • +1

My guess is that only 1 or 2 people will actually get it.

The voting system on OzBargain is never accurate. Newbies just impulse vote +1 to be nice, which ironically negatively contributes to this site. They should make it that you have to leave a comment to be able to vote positive (like how it is with neg votes).

  • +6

Even back in the 90s the CO-Op (then Co-Op Bookshop) would strike exclusive deals so that they could jack up the price of textbooks. I only imagine it has gotten much, much worse. This right here is an example of why our education system is in the crapper, and why privatizing it will only see it sink further.

    Reasons for negging.
    - Terrible ordering system.
    - Reputation for terrible customer service.
    - Charging for membership which won't be refunded. Losing $25 is not a bargain!

I agree this company should be banned!

  • +4

    RIP $25

  • With all of the $25 membership fees they received, they would still have made profit on those Galaxy S7 that are honoured.

    • they would still have made profit on those Galaxy S7 that are honuored

I'm sure they wouldn't have sold these phones at a loss.
