I tried domoticz for a short period few years ago and it looks pretty good. What components do you use? zwave stuffs?

        • Yup, zwave module on the raspberry GPIO pins as a controller and I've got a combinations of fibaro and aeotec switches and one aeotec smart switch.

Will get more down the track as you'd imagine integrating all this thing in one go will cost a fortune lol

    • Thanks. It is using Zwave, anything for ZigBee?

  • Got one. Thanks!

  • +1

Same price at http://raspberry.piaustralia.com.au/ if you can pickup at their warehouse, Unit 13, 8 Leighton Place, Hornsby, New South Wales, 2077.

    • +1

Shipping starts at $7.95 though, and it says they are sold out of RPI Zero W.

      • +1

Seems to be in stock now. Annoyingly it says local pickup is $5 for orders under $15 and the Zero W is $14.96! Wonder if they would allow free pickup for the sake of 4c. They are local to me so should be worth a try.

        • We'll have more in a week - stay tuned. There will be more than enough for everyone this time around!

  • Any good deals on raspberry Pi? How is it different compared to that?

  • +1

got one of each, thanks OP! now I can add a few more rpis to my collection. I tried a few projects but I sometimes loose the interest.

  • Non W one ($7.48 ) is out of stock now.
    It was quick.

    • thanks. i've updated the post.

      • More Raspberry Pi Zero W's just landed, we're ready for orders :)

  • Snooze you loose . I missed out but nice to see the $5US RPi Zero did actually happen albeit briefly .

    • +2

It'll be back soon enough :) We're official resellers in Australia for Raspberry Pi Foundation as of yesterday - steady supply inbound.

  • Just ordered the regular zero one with express post (I leave the country next week). Too good a deal to pass up.

  • I'm thinking of using something like this in a smart speaker project. Does anyone know if these can function as a Bluetooth receiver? Or only as a Bluetooth transmitter?

    • +1

hardware wise blue tooth is bi-directional ….. getting the software library would be the tricky part….. you'd hate to be cutting code and weeks later find out there isn't enough memory on the zero and you need a pi 3b.

    • +1

For a bluetooth speaker, better off with a bluetooth amp like a TDA7492P based ones that are ~$10 delivered. If you go with the Pi0W, don't forget you'll also need a Phat DAC or similar or a USB DAC.

  • +1

That's cheap as chips! Ordered one - not sure what I'll do with it but considering I've spent more on beers on a crappy night out this is an absolute bargain!

  • Any suggestions as to where to buy cheap cases for the Zero W?

    • aliexpress

      • If you've got a link to a decent case I'd be very, very grateful.

EDIT Scrap that, found one for USD$1.47 so ordered that. Even if it's terrible it's less than a cup of coffee :D

        • You're paying too much for coffee

        • If you know a cafe in Sydney CBD that can provide me with my morning caffeine boost for under $2 please let me know! Sure, I can just grab the Nescafe Blend 43 and have a cuppa for around 20 cents a pop, but if someone can make me a takeaway brew for a couple of bucks I'll happily trek over there to save some money

        • +6

          @punkindrublic: 7-Eleven? **Dodges shoe*

        • +1

@corbz: Depends on what you mean by coffee.

        • +1

          @silverrat23:

7-eleven coffee is OK when the machine is running OK & and clean and the beans are new. But most of the time this isn't the case and it's rubbish.

    • i just bought one off ebay for $1.30

edit: just noticed you already bought one.

      • will pi zero case fit with pi zero W? im thinking of getting one from ebay as well.

        • Yes. Physically the same. Same size, same port locations, etc.

        • @rhangman:
yay thanks, I asked the ebay seller, had no idea lol :)

    • The official case for Pi Zero is very affordable, and we're running a deal at the moment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/305825

It's hands-down the best enclosure we've seen from the Raspberry Pi Foundation. Snug fit, zero hassles, alternative tops for all occasions.

  • +2

Link is out of stock for pi zero, but weirdly it's available when i add the wireless & then selecting the same thing under suggestion.

    • +1

this worked for me too 26.44 for both

  • ordered. thanks op

  • Thanks OP, Ordered.

^if anyone wants to add the GPIO header.

  • +6

I hope they call Android 11 "Raspberry Pie" just to confuse everyone

  • Got one for fun of it

  • good price unless you the hats as well - then it's possibly cheaper from pimoroni

    • +1

We're official resellers for Pimoroni - we can special order in anything that isn't already publicly available on our site.

  • Nice! Gonna build me one of these.

  • The free Pi B from IBM is still on my desk.

    • Still waiting for mine.

  • +1

These any good as a jukebox? Im using one for codex on the TV as half my movies wont play and I got a retropi so jukebox could be cool.

    • Only audio out by default is HDMI. Could connect that to an AVR or TV, generally though, going to want a DAC to connect to an amp. Hifiberry do a DAC+amp in one board. Designed for the 2/3 though, so much bigger than a 0, plus still needs external power.

  • Thanks OP, ordered one.

  • Ordered 1 x pi zero… now not sure what to do with it.

I have the following parts lying around:
    MicroSD 4GB
micro USB to femal USB cable
    Charger micro USB

Any advice if I can use existing parts to build a retropie? What's the cheapest way to do?

4GB sufficient for nes, snes, and some old school gaming?

  • +1

Hi all, new to Raspberry Pi. Out of the Raspberry Pi, anything I need to buy to make it work (power cable, usb cable, etc.)?

    • +2

Pi0W, to run it headless just need a microUSB and microSD. USB to power it, microSD to write OS image to. Then should just a matter of editing a config file with your wifi settings, insert SD, power up and it should connect. Can then SSH in. Want to connect it to a screen? Going to need Mini-HDMI adapter/cable. USB keyboard, etc.? Likely going to need microUSB adapter, also a hub if you want to connect more than one device, making bluetooth likely a better option, although you will need a method to pair them so either USB first or SSH.

      • +2

Thanks for your answer. Bought one, think later :)

  • Any suggestions on a power supply? I've got two Zero's already, going to add a third, and maybe a fourth in a few weeks.

That would require a 4 port charger with at least 2.5A for each of the ports yeah?

    Would this be suitable? (https://www.cablegeek.com.au/shop/power/desktop-chargers/ank…)

    • +1

Got a Pi3, Pi0W, ODroid C2 and 5 port ethernet switch running from a cheap 5 port Blitzwolf charger. No issues.
Pi0 is running PiCorePlayer and with just it connected was only getting 0.8W or so at the wall, 0.9-1W when playing.

      • Cool, that expands my options considerably, I can get away with some of those chargers that have mixed 2.5A and 1.2A ports, thanks

    • +1

      The Zero's don't need 2.5A, the Pi3B does.

You can get away with a cheapo 500mA phone charger on a Zero

      • I probably should have mentioned "I'd like a single device to power all thes" ;)

      • +1

If you are using it for hardware projects, then the 2.5A power supply will help with head-room with other hardware you might be powering from the GPIO etc.

The official Raspberry Pi Power Supply has 5.1V at the lead, which is recommended for a range of uses.

    • +1

Its a good idea to get one of those $2 USB power meters from ebay to see the power drain and check the loaded voltage from your supply (phone charger).

Everybody must have a few suitable power supplies in a drawer somewhere.

      • Neat I hadn't seen these before, looking now, which one to buy, which one to buy, decisions decisions :)

  • I picked up both also, pi hole looks interesting and the gameboy/SNES controller emulator as well. I don't have any soldering experience though.

Already have a pi3 for kodi.

What are the top pi0 mods?

  • What does a Respberry Pi do and why should I buy one???

    • best way to answer your own question, youtube, keyword, Respberry Pi zero :)

      • Thanks

  • Pi Zero W stocks exhausted as well it seems!

    • +1

bummer! i'll send them an email, and see if i can get a feedback on stock levels…
i didn't except this deal to be this popular!

      • interested in there reply

        • sent! i'll let you know if i get any feedback.

i hope they don't cancel my order for ozbargaining their Pi 0 and W stock lol

      • Online chat, they got a hand full of kits left all single boards gone. New stock 1-2 weeks.

  • +4

My Zero W just got shipped. That was quick.

  • +2

I hear they are clearing out the Pi Zero cheap because the new "minus one" model is out soon.
    ( AKA the e^i Pi. )

    • 250,000 units sold world wide in 9 weeks, I think they've hit the nail on the head with the W model and it's not going anywhere for a long while yet!

      • woooshh :-)

  • +8

Thanks for your dazzling support, we thought we had enough for a month and then this happened!

More stock arriving next week, hold onto your hats!

    • +2

Great job on scoring distribution for Australia. Let us know when you've more stock.

    • +1

  • Tidy profit for a Broden type: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brand-new-Raspberry-Pi-Zero-W-WIR…

    (not me!)

  • Plex and Pi Hole here we go!!!

Received mine today. (Raspberry Pi Zero Wireless)
Loaded up Retropie and I said hello to my old friend Streets of Rage 2.
Amazing piece of kit for the price.
    Thanks Core Electronics

    • That was quick.. haven't receive any emails saying it's been shipped yet and I purchased within a few hours of the post.

      • +2

They're in Newcastle so these guys are quite close to where I live.

      • Same situation as you. I just received a shipment confirmation today.

    • +1

Nice! All the best with your projects!

  • While we're all waiting for our Pis to be delivered, are there any meetups in Sydney for people wanting to play around with their devices?

It looks like Core Electronics has workshops and the Pi Foundation has a list of 'Jams' around the world, but I didn't see anything based in Sydney

  • +2
    • I've created another post for you
      https://core-electronics.com.au/raspberry-pi-zero-w-wireless…

I got my last order yesterday, and time to order another one :D

      • +1

Cheers, although we're limiting it to one per customer per week.

This way as many unique Aussies can get one, and each week they can build a new project.

Could you please update the OP with this information?

        • Looks new post is unpublished, and this post was rescrutted my mods.
I've updated this post to include "Limited to one per customer per week!"

        • Cheers!
