      NOT Saigon!!!

      • +1

        Yep. SGN = Airport Code for Ho Chi Minh City!

        • +4

          Yeah not sure why the outrage by noskich. There have been many situations where the city has changed name but the airport code remained as the former name:
          SGN = Ho Chi Hinh (Saigon)
          PEK = Beijing (Peking)
          LED = St Petersburg (Leningrad)
          TGD = Podgorica (Titograd)
          BOM = Mumbai (Bombay)
          CAN = Guangzhou (Canton)

  • site is a POS. very frustrating trying to get these prices

    Thanks OP, but good luck finding those fares. Needle in a haystack.

    Need to go to Siem Reap for a wedding in October, but it's all around $700 once you add a bag. May as well fly a full service airline at those prices. Heck, I just flew return to Europe on Singapore for cheaper than that…

    • Heck, I just flew return to Europe on Singapore for cheaper than that…

      How, please give details

    There is also Return flights direct through Jetstar for $330. I looked into these but some had like 24 hours travel time as opposed to 8 hours direct

  • +1

    Would if i could. Those fares are crazy.

  • +3

    17hours layover……..OMG!!!

  • Yeh nah

    Rather pay normal price for a direct flight

    It is NOT Saigon, it is Ho Chi Minh city! Long live Uncle Ho 4EVA!!! ⍟⍟⍟

    • HeHe! Yup but the locals (mostly from South Vietnam heritage) have long memories - some still dislike North Vietnamese, and are happy to call it Saigon. Me too. There is a small war museum on the river (I forget the name) honouring the North. Very few South Vietnamese go there! But you will see retired 80 - 90 year old north vietnamese soldiers visit it in uniform. Very strange to see very old men in army uniform.

        • Interesting. And the Vietnamese women are still as hardworking and as tough as nails.

        • @Peck:
          Ho Chi Minh himself wanted to negotiate with Americans way before war started. They ignored him. Of course he had to turn to USSR.
          Fidel Castro as well, offered his hand, again rejected by US.
          Patrice Lumuba, first predisent of Congo as well. Rejected. War in Congo is still ravanging.
          US policy has always been disastrous since they broke out of their isolationist shell.
          Creating their own enemies ALL the time everywhere, Taliban, ISIS etc. etc.

        • @noskich: In spite of me being there, it is all far too complicated for me to understand. We were brain washed "Commos Bad". But when I visit I feel very guilty. They are beautiful people. And even a few of the men are hard working too. (But not those in Cabin Crew - Vietnam Airlines)

      You are Việt Cộng I think ?
      It's always called SAIGON, Past, Now and Forever :)

    Most of the flight are 14-15 hrs including layover. Heck some flight are 1 day and 3 hrs.

      So what, go to KL for a shisha and Singapore sling matey! Supreme value for both.

      • But….I want to go to Vietnam. They love me long time there. KL and Singapore, not so much.

        • You will eventually end up there. Just have a break for a day. I love stop overs. No rush, just chill. Have a meal, have a walk. Be cool.

    • You have the option of short stopover or long. Your choice!
      I am avoiding overnight flights on return legs by staying during connection at Sama-Sama Express Hotel within KLIA2.

    Just did a check for 2 adults from Melbourne and flights came to $1072 with luggage.
    I just purchased return direct flights with Jetstar for $898.

    Thanks. This can be used to get anywhere in Asia I guess since it's cheaper than flying direct to Kuala Lumpur.

    For those having trouble finding deals I've scraped slightly beyond the deal termination date going one way from Sydney to Ho Chi Minh. There are still 45 days at $129. I just used the free "Instant Data Scraper" extension in Chrome using mobile. version of AirAsia.
