  • Dunno why phone transactions wouldn't count for DJs. Unless AMEX found out that the card number was manually entered, it'd look like you went to the store and bought the item …

    • +2

Thanks for the info. The best way to spend at DJs is still via GC and then stack with a sale.

      • +1

In time for Half Yearly Clearance in June!

        • +2

And 6% via Cashrewards, so who cares about phone orders?

      • … sale or price match!

    • It looks like it's part of their Vivid promotion in Sydney. Phone orders could be from anywhere.

      • +1

I meant phone orders to the stores specified. They're saying you can't call them up and pay for your order over the phone and get the credit, but I don't see how AMEX will be able to find out that you called up from Adelaide and asked the Elizabeth St store to post a dress to you for example.

        • +1

Can you call up a David Jones store directly and ask them to post an item?

I would've thought you need to go through a call center (who process the payment) and find the best way to fulfill the order (warehouse vs store posting direct).

I know david jones have good customer service, but expecting front line staff to handle phone orders seems a little much.

        • +2

@sp00ker: You sure can! You'll need to pay for postage though unless you have a DJs card.

    • +3

Unless AMEX found out that the card number was manually entered

Banks know exactly how the card was processed (paypass, chip+pin, manual entry on terminal, manual imprint). It's a part of their fraud detection mechanisms.

      • +1

Yep that's right. When you place an order over the phone, the credit card transaction type comes up on their system as "card not present" as opposed to "card present" if you went in store to swipe the card.

Source: I used to work in the credit card department of one of the Big 4 banks.

      • And they also know where the payment was processed, which is how Amex can say the offer is only valid at locations X, Y and Z. Combine that with knowing how it was processed, and there's little chance you're getting around the offer conditions.

No Myers this time? was hoping to score some coles myers GC similar to vogue fashion offer last year

    • What is GC?

      • +2

        gift card

  • ohh not much of interest in these deals

  • How do you find these so quickly!?

    • +19

His name has ninja in it

  • where's Dan Murphy's? :(

    • No Dan's in Sydney CBD

      • ??

        • The offer includes some suburban outlets, but all of the participating stores are based in the CBD so presumably are part of the Amex Sydney Vivid promotion. That would also explain why the offer isn't for regional NSW or interstate.

        • @newdad: Dunno about Bondi, but there's also Vivid stuff happening in Chatswood as well

  • Where is Myer deal?

    • +9

Ozbargain team has put a special request in for Amex to include Myer in next AMEX statement credit promotion:)

  • +4

No mid year shop small .. my opal top ups have dried ..

    • Hoping to have a mini shop small in September(like last year up to 3x) and then the mega one in November(10x)

Edit: with increase in opal fares starting July , its time to load up multiple opal cards

      • There was one shop small weekend in may last year, along with one in September and November

        • +1

I think we were spoilt last year

    • +1

Same here man, need opal love from Amex. At least with prezzee deal i will get 10% off for next few months

  • Thanks for the heads up.

  • Can someone explain what a "statement credit" refers to and how this all works?

Is this basically cash back for your credit.. statement?

Also are AMEX cards like the ANZ rewards ones eligible? I can't find the link that shows the list on the AMEX page

    • +2

You spend $75 and you get charged $75. AMEX will then credit $15 back.

The offer seems to be open to all AMEX cards (not just AMEX-issued ones), so your ANZ AMEX card will be eligible for the offer provided you have enrolled your card number.

      • +1

        Awesome, thanks!

  • Any idea when does this start?

    • +1

It says in the OP - 27th …

  • +6

Links are now active, and deals are listed in Amex Connect.

    • any update on the manual links above?

      • +3

        Post updated.

  • All the offers except for Rebel showed up automatically on my DJs AMEX (probably because they know I don't buy from Rebel unlike all the other stores)

  • w00t another round of DJ GC's.

  • anyone know if rebel sports gift cards can be bought for $70 denominations or are they fixed like $50,$100 etc?
could do a $20 + $50 but that would mean an awful amount of giftcards..

    • -1

It would mean 2. I just did the maths.

    • +2

Just bought a $70 gift card and can confirm it comes on the one card.

    • Last time the Rebel offer was on I bought a single $500 Rebel gift card and they happily split the payment over 10 amex @ $50 each card. Unlike Westfield…

  • Cheers! These didn't show up on any of my Amex's. I had to use the manual links

  • Um, why is this only valid for Sydney.

    No love for Brisbane???

    • Because it's to encourage people to shop in Sydney during the Vivid festival … Which is in Sydney

  • Can the offer only be redeemed once per card? Or can you pay $70 then add the offer again then pay another $70?

    • Once per enrolled card number

  • +1

Does DJ's sell GC for other stores?

    • +2

      Don't think so

    • +2

No; they only sell DJs Gift Cards.

  • -6

    irrelevant post

  • +1

Random question: Are there any Vivid events in Bondi at all? Or is it only included because it's a tourist area? I know Chatswood got some steampunk thingy (I think)

  • Does this work when buying David Jones gift cards?

    • I'm interested to know this too! Anyone can share their experience? Thanks!

  • Can anyone confirm that buying DJ gift card from participating stores works?

    • +2

      Yes! Did today at Chatswood.

  • I bought 2 DJ GCs today, $50 with Amex commbank and $50 with Amex Westpac, but only received the 'thank you for spending at David Jones' email for my CommBank Amex spend, not the Westpac card. Anyone have this issue?

    • +1

No worries, got the credit in my account :) Just strange I didn't receive the email, as I usually do
