    • Not the same exact situation but I've been carrying around an LG G2 and am very tempted by this deal! Doubt you can get previous year's flagship phones much cheaper than this….unless you want the LG G5, which suffers from the notorious LG bootloop issue!

      • +2

The G5 has a lot of issues. Didn't think bootloop was a huge issue on that model though. The G5 has a few things going for it too. Such as replaceable battery, IR blaster and the camera is pretty good. It's probably the best phone camera you can get for the price other than the Lumia 950.

At $599 with local warranty seems like a pretty good deal. HTC ime are better at keeping their phones updated and their skin is closer to pure Android. This model should hopefully still get Android O at some point. You can't trust LG to do the same with their phones such as the G5.

        • +2

I love how HTC keeps the android customization really simple and close to pure android. I hate heavy customisation, like touch wiz-ugh.

      • +1

Yeah, I never really liked any LG phone other than nexus devices really. I guess its mostly the design really, I would hate to have software issues on a phone though.

        • Absolutely. I've been lucky enough that the LG G2 hasn't had any software issues and in terms of design it is exactly the sort of phone I like - small body but good screen size. With that in mind, the Galaxy S8 seems like the perfect phone design-wise for me but I would never consider buying that at its current price.

    • Oh I loved the infra red feature of the m7. Wow, you seem to hold onto phones longer than me :-)
M7 was a tough little unit though the camera on the M10 is in another class altogether.

      • I actually never used infra red on this phone! Its just a very solid phone and I don't like dropping crazy amounts of money on new flagships, I got this when m8 was on the market believe it or not. Became a long term fan of the durability and the headphone sound quality. Though, I feel like it is time to move on from android 5.

    • I loved my HTC M7 but got sick of the crappy purple photos you get in low light. M8 was better but photos still a bit low res compared to other flagship phones. Using LG G4 now and camera is great but UI not as nice as HTC.

      • Haha, my camera is actually not that bad and I barely use it anyway. I know some phones have issues with purple dots and lines but I never noticed anything on mine.

        • The purple photo problem was caused by one of the Android updates HTC pushed out I believe, if I'm not mistaken it caused some sensor or something to malfunction. I think one of their later updates fixed it up, but only if you hadn't installed the problematic update. Would have been fixed already by the time you got yours.

I'm not sure whether to get the 10 or wait for 11 and see what it's like (M7 here too).

        • @snackerjoe: maybe, also operators don't roll out all the updates issued by the manufacturers maybe it got detected in Vodafone testing or was known before Vodafone received the update who knows. For 10, I have read some good reviews on headphone sound quality (most important thing for me and htc 11 is most likely going to be without a headphone jack like HTC U) and it has the solid signature aluminium body which I love (HTC 11 is going to be glass). I am just bit concerned about the battery life which is said to be pretty average.

      • Purple tint gets fixed under warranty! Even after 24months

    • my m7 didnt work here since it doesnt have band28.. :( otherwise it was a solid phone for over 3 years.. would have opted for htc10 if this was available last week, unfortunately i had to settle for iphone 6s for $699 at jbhifi

  • +2

i have this phone and i reckon it's amazing. only knock is battery's pretty average

  • Hmm, vs. Oneplus 3T…

    • +1

This has better camera and audio and after sale service.

OP3T is not as good for us Aussies.

  • I had the HTC Magic in 2009 (before most people had even heard of "Android"). Had a trackball in addition to the touchscreen, if you can believe it!

It still works, it just ran out of space to run apps…

  • +1

I had the M7, great phone but battery lost it's stamina after a 1 1/2 years. I have the M9 and it'll be my last HTC, the ear phone jack has to be the most annoying bit of the phone. The camera is crap. DAC and speakers were only the good things about the M9. M10 speakers suck, DAC probably good but I doubt the camera is that good, it's something that HTC can't get right. I am looking at the S7 now, as much as I don't like Samsung but for the camera I think it might be worth it (DAC is meh too).

  • M7 was a great phone, beautifully hold and look. However there is not much improvement afterwards which is kind of disappointment

  • I couldn't find one at jb Broadmeadows.

    • I didn't find any either. Asked one of the JB Hi Fi people who said that they're not on display but they did have a dummy model in one of the drawers and they did just receive stock recently.

  • I called Broadie earlier today, said they had loads out the back, ended up buying from Northland who also had quite a few @ 2pm ish …
Anyone seen the ice view case cheap?

  • Much better deal than the other HTC-U model (urgh)..

  • Except the Sydney Airport store

The ACCC needs to jump on this sort of stuff. Go into the Airport store they are charging a 20-50% premium on standard shelf prices, even going above RRP. I don't know if it's the retailer or the Airport to blame, when taking the profits recorded into account i think they are both taking advantage of us.

The USA has cracked down on this in a lot of states by enforcing prices to align with normal suburban prices. Fancy paying $50 for a lightning cable.

    • "Fancy paying $50 for a lightning cable."

If you already paid $1,000+ for an iPhone or $2,000+ for a MacBook you have to expect to get bent over a barrel buying accessories at an airport. A micro USB cable might have been a better example we could empathize with ;-)

  • Not wishing to turn it into apple vs android, but thoughts on this vs a second hand iPhone 6s/6plus for similar price?
I've used the the original m7 for over 2 yrs and have had android for over 8. But I'm sick of the poor battery life, bloat wear and poorer camera. Thoughts?
Or should I just wait for the iPhone 8…

    • Personal preference. I'm borrowing an iphone 5 after my m7 died and can't wait to get back to Android.

    • +1

This camera is better than the 6s, if it helps.

  • It's a very good phone, but is it worth that much more than an LG G4 H815 that's about half this list price from the grey market o/seas on ebay?

    • +2

Maybe not, but the LG G4 suffers from a bootloop issue. If the phone bootloops, wouldn't you wish you had local warranty rather than having to deal with some international seller? Having said that, you could have mentioned another phone from an overseas seller that doesn't have a known software bug and that phone could probably last you a few years.

I think most people would weigh up the risk of local vs international warranty when deciding to buy a phone so in the end it comes down to personal preference.

  • I love the htc10 smacks the s7 in most respects. The software is so snappy, great looking phone and awesome sound. Great camera feel it's better than the s7 with? Manual adjustments.

  • So the overall tip is to wait 12 months after launch to buy outright at a great price!

Personally I'm still using my M8 and probably will pull the trigger on the 11!

Anyone compared this to the great value HTC X10? 4000mah battery $549

    • Yeah I considered the HTC One X10 after reading that article on Gizmodo. Sadly, JB Hi Fi have it on their website for $599. In my case, the phone size, processor and RAM on the HTC 10 would make it a better buy than the One X10, even if JB Hi Fi were selling the One X10 for $549. The battery is the best thing going for the One X10 but unfortunately that has also made the phone a little bulky.

  • Is there an equivalent model with a bigger screen? (ideally 5.5")

    • The HTC U11 which was announced yesterday.

      • Thanks, I meant from last year, from price conscious buyers.

        • +2

There are a few options but it depends on your needs. I was doing some hunting around myself recently and these were the phones around the $600 mark that I was considering:

Oppo R9s: It only has a mid-range processor which is quite capable and makes it have better battery life than a few higher end models. It also has 4GB RAM and a decent camera (front and back) according to reviewers. In terms of looks, it is almost an exact copy of an iPhone but it's extremely thin which is nice. I was heavily leaning on this one till this HTC deal came out!

ZTE Axon 7: This is similar to flagships from last year in terms of specs and has dual front facing speakers which some may like. It also supports Google's Daydream VR which not too many phones support yet.

HTC One X10: Mid ranger. I believe this is meant to go on sale this week or might already be in stores. Gizmodo ran an article on this last week. A bit bulky but has a whopping battery packed in it.

Moto Z Play: This deal was recently posted on OzBargain and it seems really good. Again it's a mid ranger (same processor as the Oppo above) but reviewers say it's a good phone with amazing battery life (battery capacity is greater than the Oppo).

For the price, I would recommend the Moto. Having said that, the other 3 phones are pretty good too so if you could maybe strike a deal for them they would be worth it.

        • Also consider the Huawei P9 plus, dual Leica lens etc.

        • @alwaysupforabargain: Thanks! That is very helpful. I am trying to find a replacement for my LG G3 which is a great phone (I prefered it to the OnePlus One after getting it just so I can return the 1+1 for a warranty claim). One of the main things I am after is an excellent camera together with decent battery and general performance. Good rural reception on Telstra also important.

I think both the Moto Z Play and Axon 7 gets rules out by camera performance. The Axon 7 does look like an excellent phone! Too bad the late Australian release and high price though. The HTC One X10 doesn't have any reviews so hard to know.

Currently thinking about either an S7 Edge or a V20 (probably good condition used one). I'm not big on Samsung and don't really want a phablet but they seem the best models to meet my needs.

        • +1

@AncientWisdom: Ah you're one of the LG people…I've got an LG G2 myself!

I think the S7 Edge is on the pricier end for local stock but you can get it cheaper as a grey import. I reckon you couldn't go wrong with the S7 Edge - it was arguably last year's best Android phone (except maybe for the Pixel).

The V20 is also a pretty good phone but it's quite big in size and may suffer from the LG bootloop issue. You could risk it and may not experience the bootloop!

        • +1

@alwaysupforabargain: Yeah S7 Edge is what I am leaning towards. That curved screen though! Argh…

$749 for AU stock from Kogan

I do find solace in the fact that I'll probably be able to pick up a G6 in a year's time at <$500, and know for sure if quality issues have been addressed!

        • @AncientWisdom: Hmm that's interesting. It says Australian model but I didn't think Kogan offered local warranty. I'm fairly certain you have to ship it somewhere overseas. In any case, there are people on OzBargain who get stuff off Kogan so it should be fine.

        • @alwaysupforabargain:
I am thinking about ZTE Axon 7 as alternative to HTC 10 (AMOLED against IPS display, bigger size, front speakers), and to Samsung S7 (higher price, custom samsung UI and a logo on the front panel)

        • @alexshel: The Axon 7 looks like a very solid phone in terms of specs and the $599 price is good in the current market. But I'm not sure how good the software is. It has supposedly got the Nougat update but it may not get too many more updates. I would suggest going in to a JB Hi Fi store and having a chat with one of the tech guys there since they do know this stuff pretty well and can give some good advice.

        • @alwaysupforabargain: yeah, they offer two versions: a grey import and an Australian stock one.

        • @alexshel: I recommend having a read through the Whirlpool forum thread of the Axon 7. Seems like a good phone overall but there are some issues that have put me personally off it. Also we really late to market in Australia and I think the price is too high for what it is. The S7 Edge has already had a <$700 deal and I believe that will become quite normal soon. That is if you can live with a Samsung :-D

    Bought this.

    TY aja12!

Thanks OP I just got one from JB Osborne Park, Perth. Heaps of stock (all grey colour). This is the telstra version so no Android 7 for now. First time back since the HTC Wildfire.

    • Is it definitely Telstra branded? If yes, then you should take it back and ask for a fully unlocked version. The attached image from the OP doesn't mention anything about it being a Telstra branded phone (even if it is unlocked) so it's not right that they sold you a Telstra branded phone.

On your receipt, check the model number. As per the OP's image, it should be either 954312, 954311 or 940319.

If you are looking at buying one of these just be aware of this issue about not being able to update the software:

  • Deal still active.

  • If there is anyone here who purchased an item from the black Friday sale, has your item been sent yet? I purchased an order on the 23rd and it still just says processing on the order info on their website.
