I wonder if this would work with Tablet plans…

    • +1

Same, want to know if it'll work with that $35 10GB iPad plan

      http://www.optus.com.au/shop/tablet/devices/apple-ipad-9-7

      • +1

I would like to know too, if it does its gonna be sweeeet deal

        • +3

checked with optus chat, doesn't apply to tablets

        • @na8an: I read their T&C and FAQ and could not find any mention of this online. Can you try speaking to a different person?

If they allow it, I want to get a Tabpro S which is normally $65 pm.

Thinking of biting the bullet on the $22.50 sim only plan, thanks OP

    • No worries. Hope you're saving money

  • +1

The Terms and conditions say it's not eligible to recontracting or existing customers, I guess that means people out of contracting or looking to renew won't get the 25% off. You could add a new service and get a new phone number, and maybe there is some magic that Optus will allow to transfer an out of contract number to the new service - I'm not sure, only Optus can tell you.

I just got off Optus plan a month ago and moved to Aldi which is on Telstra network. Much better than Optus network while using on Westbound trains from Sydney CBD.

I guess Optus is trying to load more people on a crap network to make it even more crappier :P

Great pricing but no point in my case if you can't use the data!

  • +9

I have nightmare stories dealing with Optus customer service centre.

    • +1

Telstra was even worse for me.

      • +4

They are both diabolical…you have to talk to ten different people to get them to fix their own mistakes.

        • +1

Ive talked to over 10 telstra people. Issue still not resolved

        • @hippyhippy: But you are with Vodafone

  • +2

If your are with optus and not on contracts just port out using the $2 sim. I'm sure many of us have free voda or telstra prepaid laying around.

    • Keep in mind they charge a port out fee, I think $8? Probably worth it, but I find these fees quite hidden.

  • Stack with the Unidays discount?

    • I don't think Optus is on Unidays anymore

      • +1

        its student edge now

        • +2

Has anyone had any luck inputting the student edge 10% off promo code? Can't find where to input the promo code on the checkout page

        • any updates on this?

  • I got my new plan 2.5 weeks ago. Any way I can get the 25% discount applied?

    • Would you have a cooling off period ?

      • Believe its a 10 days cooling off and I am 17 days in!

        • +7

I argued like a little bitch and got a twenty dollar a month discount… But a lot of whinging and lost dignity. $20 a month was worth it.

        • @FabMan:

Over the phone or in person?

        • @carlitos: I've found in person they really can't change existing contracts much, so all phone calls.

  • Any recommendations for cheapest provider to port out and back. I should have ordered the cheap Sim last time..

  • Anyone been declined by Credit Check and apply again sucessfully?

    • if you been declined in the last 3 months it will auto decline

    • If you were declined online then try again in store. They might be able to help out.

      • It will auto decline in store. The reps can try check with the credit review team for peace of mind that it was not an error (such as inconsistency of details picked up on ID) .. but certainly they won't be able to revoke the decision if it was based on the credit criteria.

        • Oh yea. When mine declined it was an error on optus part. Their system thought that I had left an account with money owing when it was actually in slight credit. The store rep contacted the credit people and sorted it for me. Getting credit approved for the phone plan though shouldn't really be that hard, I was working as a casual for two months when mine was approved. There is a chance that there is an error if you really can't think of a reason for it to be denied.

Is it possible to port out and port back in within the same day?

    • +1

I too would like to know the answer.

    • +2

Port to a non optus service provider is within 1 day that's what I heard from a Vrginmobile rep.

      • +2

I'll try to port out on Monday and hopefully port back the following day.

        • Please let me know if it works for you.

        • +1

@Ronney: I ended up porting from post>prepaid>post.. All up took 1.5days

        • @morestingyplease: Thanks a lot for the info.
Did you have to go to a store to do the post to prepaid switch?
Did you do the final signup to this deal via the online link?
          Thanks again.

        • +1

          @Ronney:
Post>prepaid i did it through the online chat and took over a day to trf over.

Prepaid>post a melbourne cbd store and trf took just under an hr

Same with another poster as soon as you see your acct switched to prepaid in your "my accounts" then the optus guys can do their thing.

          I signed up for the s8 15gb

        • @morestingyplease:
Thank you very much. I have initiated my porting to prepaid this evening.

Do you happen to know if I would still qualify for the $20 off broadband fees, if I take up this family and friends offer?

        • +1

@Ronney: no probs..hmm not sure..the dude at optus kept trying to get me to get to switch my isp over for $60 per mth.

        • @morestingyplease: Thanks again for sharing your experience & taking the time to answer my queries. I always thought I need to port out. This was really easy.
Hope you are enjoying your S8.

        • @Ronney:

hey, Ronney, just wondering how long your port to prepaid took? I am going to do it today.

        • @edshays: overnight. Also once it was converted to pre paid, the connection stays active for a day without a recharge. I got on a chat and got on this offer immediately. That way I didn't have to do a $10 recharge.

        • @Ronney:

Cool, thanks. I ported my wife and my numbers to pre-paid yesterday morning. cut over to prepaid in the evening. Signed up for deals. My wife's cut back over to new post-paid deal last night. I am still waiting for mine though. Hopefully in the next few hours.

          Thanks

        • @edshays: Hope everything went fine.

        • @Ronney:

All good, thanks. Had to pester Optus chat a few times to get mine sorted. They eventually revealed on second chat session that they need me to submit ID (which doesn't make sense as my wifes went through fine under the same account). Anyway, all sorted after submitting passport scan.

        • @edshays: 👍

  • How do I add my referral link to the Wiki?

    Sorry I'm a newb

    • -4

      no you're not

      Member Since
      26/02/2014

      • newb in the sense that I still dunno how to use this site if I cant even figure out how to edit a Wiki.

  • Another FYI, you can't edit the wiki if you are overseas OR you are using a connection that makes it seem you are overseas such as a VPN, TOR etc.

  • Seems like they have changed their plans as well. $130 was unlimited international calls, now it's upto $160. interesting

  • +2

Now wheres the TELSTRA counter offer?

  • so how does this work. im with jeenee right now and wanna go on the 7gb S8 plan ($60?) it says only when you add a service to an existing account? https://offer.optus.com.au/samsungbonusdata

    • +1

That's a different deal, specific to second services on one (Optus) account. i.e. you've got a contract already and your partner/kid/whatever wants to get a contract on the same account… this deal is different, new customers only. I'm pretty sure that even though Jenee is on the Optus network it should still count as a new account (hence 25% discount). But you won't be able to get that S8 +15GB deal.

    • It shows $79. How to get it at $60?

  • These days which network is better, Optus or Vodafone?
I hear Vodafone is no longer referred to as Vodafail

    • I've found Vodaphone way better in bris, especially CBD.

  • Tried to get a referral code but since my number is so new I can't get one. Oh well.

  • What is entertainment package included in mobile plan? Is it app on mobile to watch tv & movies for free? Can we somehow use it to watch on normal TV? Thank you.

  • +1

Iphone SE will be down to $30/month on the base plan. Cheap!

  • +2

Has anyone had luck with asking optus if you can port out to another carrier then sign up for the deal?
The deal clearly states that recontracting customers are eligible, but the optus reps I've chatted with are saying its not possible.
    Cheers

    • They told me on live chat you can only start up a new service, so add a new number to the same contact… and pay both
I think if you are out of contact and port out, then port back in with this offer it should work fine, or if you are coming from pre paid

    • Where does it state that recontracting customers are eligible? This is purely for new customers wanting a new number or porting in or customers that are coming from Optus prepaid to postpaid.

I double checked the link, no where does it state this offer can be for "recontracting" customers.

      • Took a screenshot.
Clearly states new and recontracting services.

        http://imgur.com/ybAqN9m

        • Thanks for the screenshot.

That offer: "new and recontracting services only, Offer ends 04/06/2017" is only for the extra 3GB data offer.

        • @hasher22:

I jumped on live chat to see if I can get the s8+ deal but I'm on sim only contact so they offered me the deal but on a new number so i would be paying my current one and then the new one too.

  • Damn
Signed up to the $30 sim plan, second email I got from optus says I'm signed up at $40……no mention of 25% discount

Don't want to have THAT phone call to the help desk before I'm even on the plan…

  • Thanks OP.Got a good deal for iPhone 7 plus RED. 1st time with Optus and 1st time with Apple Phone. Fingers Cross. Thumbs up Ozbargain.

  • I just signed up 4 days ago to the $40/12month, does anyone know a way somehow for me to get this discount? Recently talked to the live chat and they said that "They do not offer cooling periods"

  • +1

I was on Optus prepaid and signed up in store today using one of the codes. Grabbed a new phone and went onto a 2 year contract. Worked fine, no issues. Didnt get any kind of receipt to show my discount though…

    • How much are you paying a month ?

      • +3

        $75/month, normally $100. Unlimited talk/txt and 20Gb of data.

        • WoW 😳

        • Did u get S8 ??

    • I just did the same, also didnt get a receipt of discount

      • Check out my reply below

    • You won't get a 'receipt' per say on the contract or the CIS document as the discount is a complimentary offer on top of the selection.

The sales rep in-store had to check the code if it's good to use, then apply the code after the contract was made. You should get an SMS soon on both numbers that the discount should be applied to your numbers.

If not, go to ANY store, give them the ref. code you used and they will double check if the ref. code has been applied to both of your numbers.

i took a screenshot of the wiki page yesterday after I added my referral http://imgur.com/a/u1T7H and i've noticed the current top 3 on the wiki were not on it yesterday.

On investigation, these people skipped the queue
    code=W4KUCR
    code=S11Q95
    code=RECQPA

I don't think it is fair that they go to the top - should prob get a strike or something. +1 this comment if you agree

    • Fixed. We are banning top posters from further wiki editing.

As before, we get an email every time a change is made to any wiki page. However, with 388 emails so far, the auditing may lag a bit while we catch up.

      • +3

I think their referrals should be removed completely as further punishment for trying to get ahead of others to be fair.

        • +1

Yep, no shortage of greedy people around.

        • Yes, they are being removed as well.
