I have 2 x Lifx Gen3 … while they may appear better than other options in reality they aren't reliable.

My lights keep hanging , I use lifx App and iFTTT to control the lights, cant recommend Lifx sorry

      $64 seems steep.
Pretty sure these wifi bulbs have been way cheaper at bunnings

    • You know you're are having a first world problem when your light bulbs keep crashing.

On a serious note from my experience dealing with various led light bulbs ($2 -> $22) I found the more expensive mobile device controllable ones to be just a PITA to use.

A $8 LED I bought off ebay with a remote control is so much easier to use/control for ambient light — point, press single button, done.

      • Tried the Xiaomi Yeelight?
I got colours ones for under $20. It's only been two months but they work well via me telling Google to tell them to turn on/off/change to predefined colours via IFTTT.

        • At half the brightness of these, why bother?

        • @hardcorepopcorn: because they're very bright

    • My Gen2 Lifx bulbs never have a problem. In fact the power going out happens more often (thanks overpriced aussie power companies).

They are, however, overpriced, and they need to get the base price way down - $80 is just plain stoopid.

I have 9 gen1 and gen2 bulbs. About once a fortnight they go unresponsive and need to be reset. I think I'll go hue or even xiaomi next time

When will it be available here? I'm tired of Lifx Bulb disconnecting from the network.

  • These lights are extremely unreliable with an asus rtac5300 router

Can't speak for the gen 3's but I have a couple each of the originals and gen 2's and haven't had any connectivity issues. Wonder if they changed the wifi hardware in the gen 3's.

    • May i ask which router your using

        Fritzbox 7390

  • I have 3 of the Gen1 Lifx and one of them always drops out and disconnects. My 3 Philips Hue have always been spot on.

I have about 20+ of the earlier generation LIFX bulbs. The ONLY issue I've had is that the one in my porch light, which turns on at dusk every day needed to be reset once in a six month period.

I paid less than AUD$20 for each bulb. I'd NEVER have paid $60 for any kind of light bulb.

    • Yeah it pretty amazing that anyone, let alone an ozbargainer would pay $60+ for a light bulb.

  • have 6 x Gen 3s and also constantly get drop outs on 2 or 3 of them. It does depend on your wi-fi signal and where they are located in the house.

  • I have 20 of the first gen LIFX bulbs. I've never had any issues with any of them using ASUS routers with Merlin firmware. They've been rock solid stable. I can't speak for the 2nd or 3rd gen ones however.

  • I've kinda found the sweet-spot in using them, when you open the app, you have to wait ~10s till the app updates the states of the bulbs, if you do anything before, it appears not to be working. Mine play nice with Google Assistant so no sorrow there. Also works nice with LIFX schedules that I've set to turn on/off my lights.
