Band 28? How do people tell with these phones from HK?

    • +5

Doesn't list it on the eBay listing but confirmed it has band 28 on their website and other grey import listings from HK (T-Dimension etc.) all have band 28.

      2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
      3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
      4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800), 28(700), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500)

Actually it seems there is only this one model/variant of the HTC 10 from a quick google search, which is sold worldwide. See here.

      4G: EMEA-International model:
      LTE 700/800/850/900/1800/2100/2600 (Bands 1,3,5,7,8,20,28)
      TD-LTE 2300/2500/2600 (Bands 38,40,41)

      3G: EMEA-International model:
      UMTS 850/900/1900/2100

        willmyphonework.net

Confirmed there that the international model sold everywhere but America has all Australian bands.

Out of interest, even the American version has band 28 and all 3G/4G Australian bands - apart from Band 8 which is barely used and only by Optus/Telstra I believe.

        • I really want the US version since it has band 28!

Band 12/17 is too useful in the US!

I wish, (for the first time) the US version was the global version.

  • I've selected paypal but cant add the code. anyone know why?

Edit - ignore this, got it. sorry.

this is a massive discount of $123.80! one wonders how much of a profit phone companies are REALLY making?? but is this Australian stock ?

      HK stock as OP wrote.

You full well know the likes of Samsung, lg,sony and especially apple take profit @ high cost.
Stick to xiaomi or some cheap brand if you don't like such companies.

      • +1

Shame Xiaomi tends to forget about b28.

Xiaomi phones are cheap but rom & support is an issue. There are small incremental updates but are full of bugs & china specific features. If you comment on mi forum about their support & rom features your comment will be deleted that's why you will see lots of thank you only comments.
Xiaomi.eu brushes mi Roms & releases but still they can't do much on mi base Roms. Currently have redmi note 2 & note 3. Just my experience.

          @Enjj0y:

I'll stay away from xiaomis, they make great products but the phones stink.

I've had 2 rmn3's both had nothing but problems, constant bootloops and call drops outs. Never again

        • @bti_jet:

Xiaomis are also known to be structurally fragile.

Pretty easy to snap in half.

        • +1

          @StrayfireX:

I blame the user on that case, I know the screens are easy to break but phones aren't meant to be dropped.

I'm talking about functioning as a phone should, not constant freezing or bootloop. The specs are kouta for the price, until u buy one and see how much of a pos it is and regret the purchase.

I rolled myself twice because of all the hype here on ozb, Im not saying all of them are shit and even the best of phones have problems, but I've bought 2 of them and gave me nothing but grief, warranty is bs also.

I tried official roms, then unlocked and rooted with about 5 different custom ROMs, always had an issue. Also off topic it was a big pain in the ass to root, not like any other phone I've rooted and I've had quite a couple over the past years and is the first thing I do when I buy a phone

Imo spend a little extra and get something reliable, my phone is a daily driver and not for show. Just my 2c

        • @StrayfireX:

One plus is the same (28)

        • @StrayfireX:

In older models, yeah. But Xiaomi's latest stuff does incredibly well in durability testing.

I've had a HTC 7 for almost 4 years and its been a great phone… However I can't look past Motorola's offerings now in terms of bang for buck and battery life (Moto z play, moto x force)

    • that is exactly what I have thought. Moto X force can be picked for $285-299, and this HTC with smaller screen is nearly $200 more.

      • +3

Different processor and camera, not exactly sure how you're comparing them…

The HTC M9 can be had for quite cheap as well ($199-$250), but I'm not going to compare it to the 10 because they're not even the same generation.
The X force has a last gen (terrible) 810 processor, and the Z play has a 625 processor that's actually very good, but you won't get the performance as on an 820 phone. Not to mention both of them have much worse cameras and less ram than the 10.

        • Where does one find a HTC One M9 for that price, out of curiosity?

        • @StrayfireX: ebay. Some refurbs are $199 and there are also some grey imports going for about $250.

        • @clse945111:

Thanks, I might as well wait a yearish until the HTC 10 hits those prices. My phone is fine as it is right now

    • Where can you find a moto x play/z with 4g/64g cheaper than this?
Would be interested if it's available

    • I just replaced my HTC 7 last month with a HTC 10. Great upgrade, very happy with it - basically a bigger, better and quicker version of the 7, which I too was very happy with. Should have upgraded earlier. Can't say that I looked at Motorola's offerings in any great detail though.

  • Anyone currently with an unlocked HTC 10, how is Android 7 Nougat running now on Australian LTE telcos for this model? All bugs ironed out now? Serious question.

    • +2

      good,using it for a while.No issues.

      • Good to hear, thanks. Looks like awesome phone.

    • I bought the 32GB model from a previous deal on here (shoppingsquare) back in Feb, havnt had any issues on optus or kogan/vodafone.

It OTA updated to Nougat right away and has been great since. My M7 lasted well, hopefully this will do the same :)

    • +1

Telstra still haven't rolled out the 7.0 update for unlocked handsets with their custom firmware on it, don't know if that translates into issues when using a Telstra sim on a normal unlocked HTC 10 (I.e. volte issues etc).

Found this out the hard way when I picked one up at JB a few weeks ago. I bought one with the Telstra firmware on it and used a Vodafone sim. Couldn't make calls when volte was activated and since it was running 6.0 (Telstra inexplicably hasn't rolled out the nougat update) I had to change it for a normal unlocked model.

  • Anyone know if this is pure HTC model. What I mean is no Vaya or optus bloatware/logos etc.

I contacted the seller but have had no response.

Quite a bit of negative feedback on the seller (96% positive which is poor for eBay). Has anyone had experience with them. Seems they've it been around for only 6 months?

    • +1

My phone is from them and I didn't find any bloatware or anything.

    • +1

This should be an unlocked international model, will be the first or second to get updates.

I got a HTC 10 when it first came out. Hated it. Had it for a year and moved to a pixel. Never look back

    • +4

I was driving '85 Magna, hated it, moved to BMW M3 and never look back.

    • +1

Hi frente, what did you hate about it? I have used M7 and M8 in the past and thought they were excellent, except the cameras were not quite as good as other flagships. Using LG G4 now and camera is great but it's still not as nice to use as the HTC's. I still miss the classiness of the HTC's.

  • Vaya looks like a nightmare to deal with.

    http://www.productreview.com.au/p/vaya.html

  • How does this compare with the iPhone cameras?

Just looking to see if I should hold out for iPhone 8 in sept.

I've had the htc one m7 I believe that was great, but had problems with a purple haze camera.

    • +1

This scores an 88 on DxO Mark. For reference the Pixel scores 89. It's one of the best cameras.

    • It's a very good camera. Which iPhone are you coming from?

      • Not coming from any iphone in particular, have only ever used android. However, comparing it to colleagues/family iphones, my androids have seem lesser quality. (perhaps its the screen)

Thank you tho, i've never heard of DxO Mark before, will use that as a reference in the future.

I wonder how the iphone 8 will do.

    • +1

If you're going for camera quality, HTC's new flagship is out this month. The camera is really impressive. http://imgur.com/a/eXwWM It's DxOMark's highest-ranking phone, with a score of 90.

The U11 launch price is also pretty reasonable for a premium smartphone; $999 versus $1,199 for the S8.

    • Quite a few reviews mentions issues with the camera (mostly with overexposure) and rate it behind the S7 and iPhone 6. S8/iPhone 7/Pixel is another step up again

      • Need to factor in the fact that most reviews were done before the major camera software update came out. The overexposure issue was ironed out with that update. Behind the iPhone 6? that's stretching it…

  • Hi Guys,

Is this the same phone here or what are the differences?

    http://excellentdevices.com/htc-10-64gb-unlocked-smartphone/

    • +1

      I think it's a scam site.

  • How does phone compare to the S7 & S7 edge.

I'm currently on a LG G4 and my main issue is with the front camera in low light situations and the random ghost touch issues ive started to experience. In terms of speed when browsing, fb and the basics im pretty happy with.

My main reason for upgrade is for a better out of the box auto camera both front and back and battery life.

I've really got my heart set on the S7 edge but its still just too exxy. Hoping this would be a good alternative at a good price point.

    • I had both the 10 and G4, and the 10 is almost better in every way.
The cameras in daylight I thought the difference was minimal, but in low light it was significantly better on the 10, same goes with the front cam. Battery life was terrible on the G4, better on the 10, roughly twice the screen on time.

  • Hmm this or the s8 optus deal?
With the sim omly plan im in at the moment, with Optus i will end up paying 600 for handset after 24 mths. With this $100 cheaper but in lump sum.
    Decision decision…

    • +1

I would of got the S8 deal. which is it was still available.

Got to play around with the HTC 10 at the telstra store yesterday. I wasn't a fan. The phone felt a little cheap to me for some reason and I didnt realise downsizing from a 5.5" screen to 5.2" would make such a huge difference to me. It was very odd.

It might have been the stores display phone but it felt a little laggy at times. Just my 2secs.

For $500 its a pretty good deal. Just not for me.

      • It might have been the stores display phone but it felt a little laggy at times. Just my 2secs.

It's had nearly a year and a half of abuse from 12 year olds installing and playing shitty candy crush clones.

  • +1

How easy are these to root? I couldn't live without titaniumbackup.

    • HTC is a pain in the a$$ sometimes but if you read instructions carefully it be fine.

    • Pretty easy actually. You can either unlock your bootloader on HTCdev or buy Sunshine (will unlock bootloader + s-off), then install TWRP to flash superSU, magisk or just flash a rooted ROM.

  • +1

Received an email after 10 days advising that they have no stock.
What terrible service, selling a product that they never planned to stock.

  • +2

    Yep. Just received this message.

My apologies, stocks for the 64GB HTC 10 failed to arrive, we only have the mobile in 32GB in Grey and Gold. We can provide you two options, you can go with the 32GB with an add in 64GB memory card or go with the 32GB only and we'll have you refunded $50. You still do have an option to cancel and for a full refund.

Bleh. My old phone battery is dying so I really needed this new phone. Was really looking forward to it. :/ If I had known the stock would "fail to arrive" I'd have gone for a 32gb version somewhere else with the 20% off code.

    • +2

      Same here.
      I cancelled my order.

  • +1

    Same NO STOCK email here!!!
Was wondering if the $50 refund (making 32gb phone $450) would still make it a good deal. Would much rather pay the original price and get a 64gb model.
Reading previous reviews, I had my doubts about the seller so at least I am not surprised :/

  • +1

Got the same email. Did anyone receive the phone? I am cancelling my order. Disappointed.

  • +1

Ditto - Cancelling my order also. Vaya_shop you have been black listed.

  • Just got the same cancellation message. What a bunch on clowns. Vaya are blacklisted as far as I'm concerned.

  • I'm in the same boat here having received a stock issue message.

Was it intentional that the message saying the stock didn't arrive for the 64GB came through the day after the CRACKA20 promo expired?

I agreed to go for the 32GB version with the $50 discount and was now told today that they didn't have the colour I wanted and now I've gone for the refund instead.

I'm sure if I agreed to go for one of the other colours I would have gotten a message a couple of days later telling me there was another issue with stock and I could have the option of another phone with another discount.

  • Has anyone actually received the refund? Just got a message saying the seller has cancelled the order… What a slow turn-around to release my money!
