MINI

Open an Account with IMB by 30 June 2017 and receive $50 by 5 July 2017. Make sure you enter the code MINI in the promotional code box to get your cash bonus.

No deposit or other requirements, just open up the account. The Everyday Account (not the Everyday Unlimited Account) is monthly account keeping fee free if you select a IMB Cash Card and not the VISA card, so there should be no cost to participate.

Ensure you enter the MINI promotion code after your application is submitted.

  • EDIT: The terms and conditions have been updated this morning as follows:

"This offer is available for individuals who entered our Win a Mini competition and who are new members who open an IMB transaction account online and enter the promotional code "MINI" by 30 June 2017."

  • Is it safe to be uploading our most important documents on a website we don't know? I haven't heard of this bank at all…

    • +1

haven't heard of Illawarra Mutual Building Society? topkek m8

      • +2

I have now :) signed up.

    • They didn't ask for any uploads, just had to type the numbers in

  • +2

Have you guys seen their fees? Ridiculous stuff. Strictly get $50 and get out.

  • Thanks OP, easily opened mine on mobile 40 minutes ago.

  • +1

Fails for me. My surname has a space, and this does not validate in the application.

I'm guessing my ID check is failing as all my documentation does include this space…

    • +1

Try adding %20 between your surname

      • Or try alt+160

      • I'd be a bit concerned if that's actually parsed as a percent-encoding. It should be validating the raw user input as is, not doing something like URL normalisation.

  • Just now worked for me, thanks OP

  • Did anyone try printing their promotion code at the end? My PDF downloaded a blank page while the account I set up for my wife printed out a confirmation page.

    Anyway, cheers OP!

    • +1

if u read the comments above, the PDF is blank for like 5 mins then it will populate - dont ask me why/how this happens but it has been discussed above and happened with me

  • +1

Do we have to disclose our tax file number in application process?
Anyway we will close once we get $50 on 5th July 2017.

    • You don't have to but any interest you earn will be taxed at highest rate if you don't provide tfn.

      • But is the $50 taxable income?

        • Technically it is but it is something you declare not the bank. The $50 will not automatically appear on your tax return like interest income does. If you do not provide your tfn the bank will withold tax on the interest. They should not withold anything from the $50 bonus.

    • +3

      what is your TFN?

  • Still waiting for the confirmation email. Not in spam folder. Just got a SMS with a temp online banking code. I guess I need a member no. to log in.

  • "Thank you for submitting your application. We will contact you when your account has been created."

Hmm. Couldn't enter code. Guess it's gonna take a phone call. Oh well.

  • It's interesting to see the application numbers go up, a few minutes ago:

    Account Application No.: 10000

    • In the time (8 minutes) between opening mine and my wife's accounts, 58 other accounts had been opened (based on incremental member IDs)

    • It was at 9500~ about 30min before this comment im replying to, anyone reading through comments just finished wanna check their confirmation PDF and let us know?
500 per 30min (if the application number is only given for successful) is pretty damn quick..

Lets say so far OZB has given them.. 2500~ applications, If I had to guess it'd be close. That's a quick way for a bank to drop $125,000…

      • +4

We're worth every dollar though :)

      • Last digit may be a check digit.

Or, may not. I have nothing to contribute.

  • +1

    Thanks Op. Easy money.

  • Got an error at the end saying that they cant process it at this time.

Seem like the bank got oZbargained.

  • Those who are getting the "Unfortunately we are unable to proceed with opening your account online." message - what ID were you using to verify? I was using passport and medicare card.

  • +9

I would normally take $ from a big bank but somehow I can't bring myself to do it from a small building society. Is something wrong with me?

    • +4

      Yes.

  • +2

    Great first deal OP!

  • Internet banking has a feature to SMS and/or email you with balance and deposit alerts. I'd advise you set them up so you know when the $50 has been deposited. Also might be best to set up e-statements rather than paper statements seeing that it is World Environment Day :)

Thanks OP. Registration was pretty easy.

    • +10

Each IMB Alert sent via SMS will incur a small fee of 25 cents, so best to avoid SMS and use email alerts.

      • +1

Good observation. Email only it is then.

      • +2

Wow they seem to have every fee imaginable

  • i had mine since the last oz bargain referral deal but never got credited it. i had to call them up to complain to get my $50 credited to my account. can members still refer family and friends or do they need to wait for a special code via snail mail?

  • +2

I'm liking this free money giveways from bank recently…free money from ANZ, ING and now IMB…they must be feeling rich or pressured to win customers..

    • You didn't sign up with BankSA??

      • dam..did i miss it? bugger…

        Ah well..can't catch them all

    • +1

haha I can't believe how many bank accounts I opened since I know OzBargain too!!!! I got ANZ, ING, St George, Bank SA, Macquarie, ME bank….now IMB

      • +1

can't beat the credit cards I've opened in the last 6 months!

  • +1

"Unfortunately we are unable to proceed with opening your account online.

Please call IMB on 133 462 between 8am to 8pm weekdays or 9am to 4pm on Saturdays to see how we can assist or visit an IMB branch."

  • +1

    Thanks OP, just signed up.
Other than the $50, not sure what they think they're offering that ING direct, etc can't provide for free

  • +1

Thanks OP. Simple sign up. Sit back and wait for the money ( hopefully :-)

  • In the last step after it said that account has been created successfully, I entered the code but did not download any PDF. What's that for?

  • Tried, but:

"Thank you for submitting your application. We will contact you when your account had been created."

So no chance to input promotion code.

  • +2

This post has so far cost IMB $157,950 (3159 Clicks x $50 each) hahaha Ozbargained

    • Who says every single person opened an account? My estimate is more like ≈60%?

      0.6x4410≈2450 people
      2450*50≈$132500

So this is potentially costing them $132500!

      • Who says 60% of people that clicked opened one? Your made up number is just as likely as my made up number haha

        • +1

I personally clicked 2-3 times lol.

        • +1

My new guess is a round figure of $150,000…

  • Thanks OP
    Opened bank account
    Application No.: 10451

  • Technical difficulties?

  • +2

Opened the accounts successfully for both me and my partner. Waiting for $100 to come!!! YOYOOOOO

  • +1

"We're experiencing technical difficulties - Please try again in 30 minutes or call us on 133 462 between 8am to 8pm on weekdays or 9am to 4pm on Saturdays."
    Ozbargained

    • ^this. lots.

    • yep same here, been like that for a few hours now

  • +3

Haha wont let me put address. Think they caught us

    • +7

They probably ran out of clicks on their address validation API. Try again after midnight.

      • Ah, yep! I should have thought of this when trying to help others, this is very likely the situation for the bank, especially when i couldn't see any type of resource limiting/bottle-necking.

.. Who knows when after-midnight will be though, with a third party validation service and an IT team for the bank that is probably just on call overnights.

      • Address API returned HTTP 503 Service Unavailable

  • +2

I remember this mob when it was $25 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/246622) - opened an account with them and never got my bonus even after follow ups.

    • +1

I had the same issue. I did eventually get the money but wasn't worth it for the time I put in.

    • Let me screenshot everything now….

  • Are past account holders eligible? I closed my account months ago now.

    • +1

      No

  • Cant enter address. Ozbargained?

  • +3

    Still failing on address entry.

They've just lost me as a future valued Customer!
    hahaha

    • …sure, you can use it.

  • They save monies by having small head offices..
In the "dodgy" part of Sydney. Opposite ≈3? Pawn shops…

    • +3

it's called the Illawarra Mutual Building Society for a reason, why on earth would they have huge offices in Sydney?

I'll give you a tip, the answer is in the name

      • Thanks for the tip.

  • +1

We're experiencing technical difficulties - Please try again in 30 minutes or call us on 133 462 between 8am to 8pm on weekdays or 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.

    • Same here no luck🙁

    • Same issue still, just after 7am, when trying to enter addresses.

  • Can i make an account if i am under 18?
Would i just open a normal everyday transactions account?
How do i transfer the $50 to a combank account and how do i close the account?

    • No, in the terms you need to be 18.

  • Can't get past the address details screen. We are experiencing difficulties…etc etc

EDIT: saved my application, loaded up the application straight away and the address field worked straight away.

    SUCCESS! Opened.

  • Successfully opened an account just now. Seems to be working again for now…

  • Done!

Superb post and superb detective-work people!

  • Open Account Now, landing to the same page. No success!

Neither, come back later is working.

  • +9

"Open an account now" button seems not working, it only direct me to a blank page :(

    • Same here. Not working

    • +2

yup seems it got ozbargained to kingdom come. awaiting announcement that IMB is filing for bankruptcy.

    • Yep, looks like it's trying to display this page and failing.

  • Quote from the IMB online chat guy: "Yes we are experiencing technical difficulties with account opening currently I'm sorry

The issue should be resolved this afternoon if you would like to try and open the account then"

    • +1

This probably should have read…."We are offline because we need to update our terms and conditions as too many people are redeeming the $50 offer!!"

  • -4

I have just checked with bank and the offer is only available if you received an email from IMB with a link to open the account.

    • Their terms and conditions at the bottom of the signup page doesn't state you need to have received the email and is only by invite so will be interesting to see if they enforce this.

    • So this for existing customers only? I didn't see that anywhere.

    • +4

That's bull. Completely contradicts their own T&C's
