    • Just wait til July to see if they honour the $50 first

  • +4

Come on guys, just let it go and save everyone and yourself the trouble. Spend your energy on the next bargain. It's worth more than the $50 that was never yours.

    • +4

Amen! Some ppl just take things too far. It was obviously an error on their part. Time to build a bridge and get over it.

      • +12

I did a trade - my personal data for $50
I kept up my end of the bargain - so should they.
If they don't, I will complain to FOS (which costs me nothing, and costs them hundreds).

Watch them fold when you mention FOS

    • +15

I'm all for letting go, if only IMB would let go our our accounts and personal infos!

  • Luckily I didn't sign up. I knew it was too good to be true.. IMB? haven't even heard of them before.

    • +1

Me too. I was in the process of signing up but they didn't like my address. It said there were "server" problems, so I gave up and intended to come back later.. and now I see this sh!tstorm LOL

    • It's not "too good to be true" though.
I got $40 for signing up to Macquarie bank. I get $100 every time I refer someone to ING.

  • +1

Can someone upload a screenshot of the original terms? I want to lodge a complaint. Don't care if the link was sent in an email. The page was on their website for us to access and original T&C didn't mention anything about a competition.

  • +5

It's my understanding that they are currently under heavy internal legal review today. (Using their own services)

    • What does this mean? How would you know?

      • +2

Means they are having a serious think-tank about it with serious legal-aid involved if I'm to trust where I got it from - a disgruntled employee that divulged in a relationship and conversation with me through customer service a few levels deeper than he/she should have.

    • The power of OzBargain.

      • "You got the touch…

you got the powerrrrr… " da nah nah nahhh

Stan Bush should provide OzBargain's theme song .. haha, you got the power to send banks into administration rofl

    • +4

So, you're saying their in-house lawyer is having a busy day?

      I'm not exactly surprised.

Someone in marketing would have alerted their manager that they've blown their entire year's budget in one evening.

That person would have had some more tough conversations upwards.

The resident numbers expert has been dragged in to model the impact of paying out all of the claimants vs the option of denial and estimating how many people may end up going to the FOS.

Eventually they will settle on the advice that it will be a lot less painful for them to pay the $50 and learn a valuable lesson, perhaps even making the most of an influx of new customers.

  • Where do you find your member number to log in?

I only have an account number and password?

    • in the email

      • Thanks demiurge. I have checked again, but there is no email from IMB.

        • Same here

  • +2

Do we have any update on how this is being handled?

    • +5

      badly

    • I would be interested hearing any update as well… Luckily there is an IMB branch nearby, I'll just close the account if this does not happen.

  • +1

I feel like OZB is not trying hard enough… I just called them and the rep I spoke to had no idea about Ozbargain and all the new accounts

    • +2

is there a point to the rest of that story? did they say you're getting your 50 dollars they promised everyone before they illegally modified their terms and conditions?

  • +2

Turns out I entered the Win a Mini comp, so I've applied for the account.

  • my account is open and internet banking etc works, yet they havent bothered sending me my bank card.

not off to a good start, first problem was you can't use special characters in your banking password….. it says "you must make it secure….no special characters"

  • Yep, nothing here yet. No paperwork, no documentation through the mail, no emails, no nothing.

Thanks for opening your new transaction account with us!

It's great to have you on board. We notice that you opened your account using the promotion code MINI. We have reviewed our list of eligible entrants who entered our Win a Mini competition and, unfortunately, you're not on the list so are ineligible to receive the offer.

We'd still love to have you as a customer though, so if you're still keen to bank with us, please click 'yes' below to activate your account. We'll have your Visa Debit card sent to you and you can start using your account right away.

    Yes

If you don't want to keep your account, you don't need to do anything; we'll close the account automatically in 30 days from the date of this email.

You may have become aware of this offer through the OzBargain website after someone posted it incorrectly as a public offer. This offer was sent exclusively to people who entered our Win a Mini competition and was only valid for these people as stated in the promotion's email and web page.

We understand the disappointment expressed by some people on the OzBargain forum after becoming aware that they were not eligible to participate in this offer.

But, we really hope you will join us so we can provide you with a banking experience you deserve, though we'll understand if you decide not to do so at this time.

    Yours sincerely,

    Stephen Pender

    • Hahhahahhha. Same.

      • Same here HAHAHA. How did they know?

        • Probably HTTP referral headers in their logs?
          They're watching us now

        • @idonotknowwhy: Same here..what a waste of time!

    • +1

at least they will close the account without the hassle of us having to goto a branch as first thought so that's something, it could've been a real nightmare if that was the case

  • Not eligible.

  • Just got an email saying I'm not eligible as I didn't enter the "Win a MINI" comp, anyone have a copy of the terms and conditions where this is stated?

  • +1

A pity - they've sent this email! No $50 it seems

  • LOL DAMMIT

  • Yep got that dreaded email just then. It was too good to be true :(

    • Same, too good to be true. And I can't win the Mini either!

  • +6

It's a smart email. If you click YES - keep the account, you will then acknowledge that you are no longer getting $50. If you do nothing at all, they will close the account… Although the account should be credited with $50 on the 4th of July so if we go by the original Ts&Cs it's smarter to ignore the email. Any thoughts anybody?

    • And if you have some money in the account they will have to send you a cheque when they close it.

  • +1

Should forward them a copy of their T&C's before they changed it ask them to specify where a competition had to be entered.

  • +3

Just got rejected by their Marketing Senior Manager. If you are reading this Senior Manager Marketing go sit on fat one and rotate :)

  • Ah, a 4 year member but L plated Ozbargainer posted their first deal (I assume they received in an email after entering the mini competition) without posting the fine print - that unless we received the email invite to open an account, we are ineligible for this deal :-(

TARGETED to the more than 4600 people who entered the IMB Bank competition

Never was a deal unless received targeted email - so not available to the rest of us.

OP should have made us aware of conditions that applied to this deal, if they were aware.

It's happened before in other deals with a lot of upset people, & unfortunately will likely happen again.

    • +3

Keep your account open. Fund it with 1 cent every year for the rest of your life.

It'll cost them well over the $50 to administer.

      Revenge is a lifelong mission.

      • I'd rather move on to the next deal, rather than be stuck in the past - for a lifetime.

This deal is already costing IMB ;-)

There were comments from almost the beginning (2nd comment) that deal was too good to be true - and almost 8000 clicks later - we found out it was ;-(

        • I may have been joking.

        • @Mr Gradgrind:
          Really? 😀
I've opened a cheap bottle of red & waiting for the fireworks to really start 🎆

      • -1

        They're gambling on inaction.
If you threaten to take it to the ombudsman, they'll give you your $50 instead of copping the fee.

In order to use the ombudsman, you must have lodged a complaint with the bank first.

        • You do realise IMB representatives will be taking an interest in comments here. Implied treats against the bank (your strategy to "threaten to take it to the ombudsman") will likely be presented to the Ombudsman. I don't think the Ombudsman will take kindly to such abuse of the complaints process.

So good luck. I can think of better things to do with my time. If you calculate the time involved against what you could earn in the same time, the aggravation is hardly worth it for a potential $50. I've taken a much stronger case before a different ombudsman & lost. Admittedly you are just proposing to threaten the bank!

As IMB never made the offer directly to us, & we did not enter the Mini competition to qualify, I don't see how IMB would even consider your attempt of coercion to extract $50 from them. You can't point to any evidence IMB offered you $50. So can't see any legal basis for your complaint. Disappointing of course.

IMB would have received legal advice on this matter. The Ombudsman would be very unlikely to become involved in your complaint.

        • @Infidel:
Also as we were not IMB customers, we may have no legal standing to make a complaint to the FOS.

    • Response from OP below.

Little indication in email this was targeted deal only to those who entered competion.

      The email begins with…
EVERYONE IS REWARDED WITH IMB BANK

OP shared in good faith. It's entirely IMB's stuff up.

  • +12

IMB will forever be black marked at Ozbargain…

  • +4

    I replied:

Thank for you email informing me of my ineligibility.

This is a courtesy email from myself, informing IMB of it's ineligibility to receive any further business from us. This includes the planned Home loan change and business accounts.

Please remove me from any and all mailing lists.

    Warmly,
    Kevin

    • +5

You sure showed the unattended inbox who's boss.

      • +3

And did it so Warmly - take that unattended inbox 📩💥 😱!

        • I hope my thinly veiled sarcasm was obvious

        • @kevitkotw:
We liked it, but IMB seems to miss even the obvious. Try less thinly veiled next time.

  • +3

Pricks, met all criteria so pay me

  • +2

Will it help if I copy and paste the email here like everyone else is doing?

    Notice the page has changed:
    http://www.imb.com.au/mini
"If you entered our Win a Mini Competition we have your everyday banking covered"

But look at the thumbnail for this deal
"We have your everyday banking covered"

    lol…

I found this complaint process: http://assets.www.imb.com.au/files/imb-bank/policy/Our_Commi…

Worth doing imo, we sold our personal information for $50, and didn't get it.

  • And so Operation OzBargain ShitStorm begins.
The long awaited follow up to the always popular You've Been Ozbargained!

  • Thanks for opening your new transaction account with us!

    • op never posted a link 6o enter this competition..

      • it closed in april or something so how could he

  • I sent a complaint via online form and oddly enough they texted me "we didn't publicise the web page but when we realised that others were accessing it we added some more information for these people from the email"

    • +2

Threaten to go to financial ombudsman

    • How long does it take to receive a response from them?

      • Took less than hr

        • You just received the response from internet banking?

        • @citygal: i sent an online form for complaint and they sent a personal text to me as a reply,

        • @Chef-Johnson: Personal text? you mean sms on your phone?

        • @citygal: as in non generic reaponse

        • -1

          @Chef-Johnson:
I understand it's a generic response. But where did you find this response - Is it from internet banking?

  • +4

Any lawyers want to take on an Ozbargain Class action? Surely they'd settle.

  • +6

Not banking with these IMBeciles now >:[

  • +1

Sorry for all disappointment this has caused some of you. If it helps any of you who want to take it further here is a copy of the email message. You will see there is no mention of entering the competition in t&c's. I suppose the email at the top does say "we would like to offer you a little something for taking part", whether this limits the offer I can only leave you to decide/argue.

    Link to screenshot: http://tinypic.com/r/2br8l5/9

    • +1

      Hey m8

They changed the t&cs mid way through the deal so your argument is redundant

    • Thanks for clearing that up. They don't make it at all clear, as IMB seemed to imply, that this offer was targeted only at those who entered the Mini competition. (Enjoy your $50 💰)

After all the banner of the email reads
EVERYONE IS REWARDED WITH IMB BANK

      (…WELL WE'RE NOT!!!)
I think we're part of the EVERYONE!

That promo slogan will come back to bite them! Would hate to be that bank's PR person at the moment. It's a bit like the United Airways stuff up, in a minor way. That seemed like a simple oversight at the time.

      IMB email to us read
This offer was sent exclusively to people who entered our Win a Mini competition and was only valid for these people as stated in the promotion's email and web page.
Seems that part in bold was not correct, after reading email! Promotion's web page has been updated to only now exclude us.

Had thought you may have missed sharing some important details… But going by that email, if I'd received it I would have shared it as well.

  • Does anybody have a legal opinion on this? No use complaining to the FSO if the whole thing is dead in the water.

    • so now it's us vs their legal department?

    • +2

Not a lawyer, but have won a case I took against a business (out of court settlement during pre-trial arbitration - got everything I asked for) - where lawyers gave no hope of winning. My successful action is used as a basis in fighting similar cases.

      As we were not personally sent the offer, but was shared without authority;
      the offer stated "we would like to offer you a little something for taking part" in the Mini competition which we did not participate in;
and IMB have sent emails to many requiring us to click Yes - (probably foregoing our claims to the offer) to open the account, which is required for the offer…
      I don't think we're on stable ground.

      But the promo's slogan was…
EVERYONE IS REWARDED WITH IMB BANK

      I feel very rewarded IMB - THANKS🙍

  • Don't forget to post your thoughts on their Facebook page! Have fun 🙅

  • +1

By clicking "yes" you're agreeing to waive their obligation to pay you $50, in return for nothing.

    • it's a good way to get people to give up their 50 dollars, don't think they spent all this time not thinking of ways to trick people out of it :)

this is probably the first of many to come

  • +4

i am going to open a FOS case against them, not at all satisfied with the outcome

    https://www.fos.org.au/resolving-disputes/before-you-lodge-a…

  • I didn't get my bonus. 👎

  • I just go the rejection email in regards to the $50 for opening an account.

  • I still haven't received a card in the mail, my internet banking works though. Not even an email response from IMB.

Funny thing is I'm in the area and all of my family banks with them. Left them a 1 star review on productreview. Will lodge a complaint with FOS for being scammed out of the bonus despite their T&C's and then will lodge one for being refused an ATM card despite opening my account successfully.

    • Review submitted.
