  • can I use the Optus family & friends offer code in HN store?

    • I spoke to Optus Customer Service and they did confirm that as long as you have the Family & Friends offer code, you can sign up in any HN stores and also in any Optus stores.

      • +2

How? Normally the friends and family offer is a link isn't it? What would the sales rep do in store?

        • They enter the code (there are still plenty of codes available in wiki) in the voucher code section while signing up. I signed up two numbers with 25% discount yesterday in a an Optus Store with no issues.

  • +2

Would be much better off in most (all?) cases by going for the 25% off "family and friends" offer here.

EDIT: According to the FAQ section here you should be able to stack with the family and friends offer… This isn't technically a "monthly discount offer."

  • +3

Keen to see if anyone manages to couple this with the family and friends deal

    • Agreed. Who has actually done this in a HN store? Do you get the Eftpos card then when signing up?

  • How do you know the friends and family voucher has worked? And does it reject if the code has already been used because surely that wiki link is a graveyard of used codes?

    • Where you click each link it will say if there's 3,2 or 1 code left. I believe the referring member gets an SMS notification as well?

    • I used the last link in the wiki list. Just click on the link in wiki that you would like to use and it eill take you to the Optus offer page where it will tell you how many sign ups still left from that code.

      • -1

Should have used the top one. That's the order they were posted.

  • Just one other thing. It says switch to Optus. Do you not get the $200 or the friends and family discount if you just add a service to an existing Optus account?

  • +2

how can ask HN staff to put friends and family code?

    • Please refer to my comments above. They would use the same system as the Optus store people does from memory.

  • +1

Anyone know if this applies to SIM only plans or do I need to get a phone with it.

Also since I already have Optus broadband does this allow me to get the discount for having both broadband and mobile?

    Thanks.

  • +1

I'm currently with Optus mobile and broadband. What do yiu ozb peeps do to get around the restrictions here and take advantage of the $200 gift card and the %25 monthly discount???

  • +2

I've just ported my number away from Optus to a "no contract" telco, so I'll try and stack this and my wife's family and friends code tomorrow. I'll let you all know how I go.

    • +1

So, went in today. Can confirm that 25% and $200 card are stacking. I can also backup s3lh below, and say that staff did have 25% codes of their own if people didn't have one. Oh, as an aside, thank you to the OzBargainer who used my wife's code sometime in the last 24 hours - she's now getting a $100 credit :)

If I had to grade the experience, I'd have to break it up in two: For a change HN would get an A+ for their efforts, while Optus would get a resounding F. To say that they were useless is an understatement.

The guys at HN were really helpful, but they're being stuck on hold for two hours plus, and this is their hotline they're calling.

When we finally did get through, the first staff member we got had absolutely no clue of what they were doing - couldn't find the 25% code in their system, started talking about leasing the phone and then when I corrected her, started to order a phone. The HN staff member was absolutely flabbergasted. We got put on hold 4 times during this process. She then tried to "transfer" us, only to hang up.

So, start the process again… when we finally, finally, got a staff member who knew what they were doing, it was well after 4 PM, and it was mostly smooth sailing from there. I say mostly, because they apparently couldn't port the number (my telco was "closed" for the day??). I'd had enough at that point, so I've taken a new number for now, and I'll see what I can do about the old number later.

Again, I will say that the staff at HN Woodville (SA) were awesome - the poor guy who got stuck with me for most of his shift, Stefan, was really patient, and didn't give up when it would have been much easier to do so.

      • Hey adamross, I am with optus postpaid right not but not on a contract with them. Do you know if I need to port my number away from optus before I can avail of this promo? Also, how much did you spend with the "no contract" telco? Thanks in advance for your help!

        • Also with postpaid. Going to try and switch to prepaid $2 a day $10 recharge. As soon as it switches I will go in.

        • @R3XNebular: Yeah that's what I did. I switched to another carrier now then I will go in as well. Is there a reason why we'd need to recharge? I'm thinking of going to HN as soon as mine ports out. Thanks!

        • @sigplay:
Don't think we need to actually. As soon as their system recognizes it as prepaid I will go in and report back.
Takes up to 48 hours. Have not received the message yet advising that the postpaid plan has been switched over.
Think since you switched carrier you are guaranteed a $200 gift card. As I will be going with prepaid to postpaid it will depend on the HN staff member. I've called the same Harvey Norman and spoken to two different people. One says yes I am eligible another says I'm not. I've advised the member that says I am eligible that I will be coming into see him. Fingers crossed. Seems other people are having luck though… If they aren't willing to provide the $200 gift card there is no point in signing up with HN and I'll just head into an Optus store.

          @sigplay:
Confirmed no issues. Transferred from Optus Postpaid to Optus Prepaid via Online Chat. Waited a day for it to convert over. Went to HN got $200 Efptos Giftcard combined with the coupon for 25%. $120 iPhone 7+ Black 128GB. Happy with the plan.

        • @R3XNebular:
Which HN was this at? I've just organised my port to prepaid today, just want to make sure I have a precedence before I go into my HN

        • @Hipsi:

          Browns Plains HN

        • @R3XNebular: Looks like you guys came up with an even better plan than I did - good work. EDIT: Oh, to add, all issues with the number are fixed. Wife won't be paying her phone bill for 2+ months, and she seems pretty happy with her iPhone 7.

        • @R3XNebular: cool thanks mate. I spoke to Bundall today, I signed my wife and mother in law up thru the week there but they weren't with Optus so it was straight forward with them.

They said to me as long as the system puts it thru as a "New Customer" then there will be no hassle. Otherwise I guess I'll be taking a drive up to Browns.

        • @Hipsi: just reading my previous post again it's occurred to me that this is not correct since the phone I contracted earlier this week (for my wife) is on my existing account under my name. Therefore I didn't port that number in as a new customer, but it is still a new service. So when I port my number back in after having switched it to prepaid, It won't be a new customer either. Should just be the same process as I did earlier in the week. Sweet as.

Spoke to a staff in HN, he said they got some 25% code and yes you can have both 25% off + $200 card.
Must be phone plan not sim plan.

    • Can confirm.

    • Received this offer 25% code and $200 gift card.

  • Can you get tablets?

  • Do you receive the card on sign up in store or do you need to wait for it to come in the mail?

    • You will have the eftpos card in store once you signed the contract, need couple of days to activate.

  • I've noticed on the Optus site that for $40 on a 12 month sim only plan you get 12gb of data per month.

However on the 24 month plan for $40 with a phone (additional) you only get 1gb of data per month.

Anyone know how to get a similar amount of data on a 24 month plan without paying more?

  • Ok, so I ended up doing this today, but for a Samsung Galaxy S8 instead of a HCT U11 as it was slightly cheaper and came with double the data allocation. I was porting over from Optus pre-paid.

Extremely good deal, although as someone else may have mentioned, you need to allow a good 1-2hr in the store, as the HN staff are having one hell of a time trying to get through to Optus. There were no less than 5 other people in the store doing the same thing as me, for various phones.

    • Can I ask how did you get double data and what is the monthly cost excluding handset?

Edit: how much data? Did you get the 25% off too? Was it difficult?

      • It wasn't difficult in the sense of convincing them, as everyone else in the store was doing the exact same thing. Especially since the deals are separate (HN has their part, the giftcard, they don't really care about what Optus is doing, the 25% off).

The cost before discount is $75/month ($65 plan + $10 phone). After discount is $56.25/month + $200 giftcard (hopefully I've calculated that correctly). The plan includes "double data", so you get 7GB + unlimited Netflix/Stan/Spotify etc. For the HTC U11 you only get 3.5GB in the same pricing tier.

        • Ok cool, thanks for letting me know.

        • @lowlifeskum:

Sorry I realised later that it doesn't include the TV streaming on that particular plan, it's an extra $10 per month for unlimited netflix and stan.

  • Anyone looking for S8+ on a plan, choose 108$ plan with 20gb data instead of 105$ plan. It is 75c cheaper after discount.

And yes HN guy was really helpful, but optus process is painful… take hours and hours.

  • Any suggestions on phone cover for s8+? Spigen or something else?

  • In HN now, been on hold to Optus for over an hour.

They tried to do it through the Optus web portal but it wasn't accepting the 25% off code, so still on hold.

Whoever said it takes an hour or two wasn't kidding.

Was anyone able to get the 25% off through the HN Optus web portal?

    • My code has been accepted by portal (make sure in right space and code hasn't been used more than three times), however we called back to confirm code has been applied successful.

      • Nice we ended up using the web portal too after being on hold for nearly 2 hours and they were closing but they couldn't apply the code so they said they will do it retroactively today.

Does it show up 25% off on your billing in the My Optus App?

        • No, nothing showed up on my APP or my account portal, however I've received 25% discount confirmation email from optus as I mentioned on other post

        • @jasonchen59:

How long did it take to get the email? I haven't received any emails yet of any kind just a few SMSs from Optus about voicemail and unlimted* music streaming.

  • Does anyone know if this will work if I just get a new number?

  • Im an optus customer and I would like to refer my two friends via the HN portal using my promo URL. Would I be eligable for 2 x $200 Eftpos card and 2 x $50 Referral credits? Or can I only use the promo code (Not URL promo code) in HN and therefore only getting the $200 eftopos card and not the $50 credits? Thanks!

    • I think I found my answer: " when you click on your own promo code URL link there is also an alternative promo code which you can use in HN. Therefore, you should be be able to get the $50 credit, $200 eftpos card and the 25% off the plan" (If Im not wrong).

      • What do you mean alternative promo code?

As far as I know the code in the URL and code on the Optus page you get after clicking it is the same.

        • i got one referal code in a link by email followed by a sms with code that can only be used in HN/optus stores etc

  • Does this work deal work for existing optus customers that get a additional service added or do i need to get a telstra prepaid and port to get the $200? :D

    • I ported Optus prepaid to postpaid and it counts as new.

I'm pretty sure any new service counts.

Even if your postpaid Optus but not on contract it might work. Best to call HN and check on that. You might have to port to prepaid first though.

If you get a new number and are an existing Optus customer should be ok.

      • existing customer
