  • what is better between this and Xiaomi Mi box?

    • +2

I also want to know which is better this or Xiaomi Mi

    • +2

Mi Box has android tv os which has the built in chromecast functionality.

If you want to install android apps play games etc get the mi box.

      • If all I wanted was, netflix, youtube and Koid, would Xiaomi box be better value for the extra $50?

        Thx!

        • Kodi isn't supported by chromecast as far as I know.

  • +1

    Thanks OP , bought one

Im waiting for stock but I dont have much hope right now….. and I got one lol.

  • +2

If i had a TV this would be really useful…

    • You don't need a TV. It can be plugged into an HDMI port of your A/V receiver for music streaming.

      • +2

Thanks - that prompted a little more reading.

I've got various gadgets connected to a HDMI switch, and i've just realised there's an audio out on the HDMI monitors i've got, which makes perfect sense of course. So i should be able to connect this to the HDMI switch and recover the audio via the monitor.

I've only got mobile broadband though, and the main one i'd use is an old Optus $2 day service, which i'm pretty sure is constrained to 3G. Not sure how well that would work in terms of streaming via the mobile, and i've got pretty cheap mobile phones with little brains anyway.

Cute gadget though - as others have pointed out, this would be really useful if you're away at a hotel or something where it's just a matter of plugging it in…

Here's a couple of useful links for the uninitiated.

  • Love my Chromecast, but I am on my second as they seem to heat up and cook, that's why I wanted a Chromecast 2 :)

  • Got one! Woo

  • I had a $5 voucher to be used off $20 in my ebay account. Targeted code most likely. Expires on the 12th. I paid $33. Thanks OP.

  • is this good for streaming pc games to a tv like playing fifa on steam and then streaming thru a tv?

    Cheers!

    • +2

      No get a steam link.

  • can you get price beat from jb hifi for this item?

    • Jb dont price beat but will price match office works

  • Thanks OP … ordered my first CC …

  • whats the key diff with chromecast 1

    • AC wifi vs N wifi

  • Anyone know if we can get a price beat from TheGoodGuys?

    • Hell no, they're all rip offs who spam the chromecast term to trick people.

      • Thanks! It's so mis-leading.. should be banned from eBay.

And how come this is so cheap? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Google-Chromecast-2-Digital-WIFI-…

    Looks even genuine!

    • +1

NOTE:Third party production, Not original one, but with high quality as the original.

      Marque: Unbranded

      • Thanks, jase_h!

        • No worries, I'm sure quite a few people miss those details and think they've purchased the real thing.

    • Wow How is this even legal? Im sure even a few Ozbargainers will buy one and be disappointed as the link is here.

      • Unless they read just my comment and not the following ones clarifying it from me and others. How selective they would be when it comes to reading, ey!

        • When you work with the public you find people dont read….

  • -2

Why are these always so popular on OzB? Doesnt everyone already have laptops/computers/tablets/phones/consoles/smart-tvs-themselves to hook up to their tv?

  • They're great to have for traveling when nothing to watch in the hotel tv. However last year I found the CC2 To be very picky on the wifi it would connect to, so didn't get to use it as much. The CC1 Was less problematic

  • I already have apple tv. Would this be worth getting?

    • One application I have found is to chrome cast foxtel play / foxtel now from an iPad to a TV/projector (can't Airplay to apple TV)

  • Argh! i always miss out on this. Been looking to get a couple.

    • +2

You can still get them for $38 C&C seen here.

  • There's stock again!!

    • sold out again..

  • When will it be in stock again?

    • I'm not sure it will be anytime soon and the price might revert to $55 or so by then, you can grab it in store at Harvey Norman for $38 though. doweyy's deal

      • OK, thanks 😁

  • Placed an order for this on Sunday, received "dispatched" and "delivered" notices from Officeworks by 2.15pm today. Got home and found no parcel. No card left either.

Wondering if anyone else ordered successfully over the weekend and received theirs today, which means I might have had mine stolen? :(

    • +1

Toll shouldn't deliver it without a signature, was there definitely no one else home that might have signed for it?

Looking at my previous orders, you should have got an Dispatched email from Officeworks with this Officeworks link but prior to that you should have got an email from eBay saying the item is sent with a different tracking number that should be 10 digits, that is the Toll tracking number which you can enter here which might have more detailed information. If it still says delivered and your address is definitely right on the dispatch notice, give Toll or OW a ring tomorrow and go from there.

      • Thanks hamza23. I did receive an email from eBay with the tracking ID but the "track order" button didn't take me to Toll's website so wouldn't know who they used. So I am glad you helped!

Upon checking on Toll's tracking, it says "EDI DELIVERED" at 12.17PM. I was still at home before 1pm and certain that no one knocked on the door. Definitely will call Toll tomorrow.

  • Ok, ordered Sunday and delivered 6pm today !
    Awesome shipping by OW

Now, the packaging just says Chromecast, without the '2'

Is it the ' Chromecast 2' model, but just that they kept the same branding ?

(Was expecting an increment like the iPhone's on packaging as well. My first CC purchase)

    • +1

Yeah that's correct, they still call Chromecast 2 'Chromecast' - same branding but makes it confusing.

You can see the two boxes here. Chromecast 2 on the left, Chromecast 1 on the right.

      • +1

Thank you for posting the thread, and replying to my comment :)

  • Guys, what Chromecast compatible app do you use to cast your photos from iPhone to the TV ?
Just downloaded Google Photos and it wants me to log-in using a google account !!!!
Google is getting very Apple-y requiring log-in where it's not even required :(
