it also has wavelengths that turn the freaking frogs gay

      • +1

Frogs have always been a bit weird.

      • Not that there's anything wrong with that!

  • cool.thx op

  • Great price

  • Is this good by itself?

    • +1

Lol doesn't do anything by itself. Need an Android device to control it mate

      • yeah watched a few youtubes after posting stupid question.

Bought it from previous kogan deal. Sweet device. Don't use for automation yet. I use for music streaming and information. 160 is a fair price IMO.

    • +1

Yup, I'm waiting for Smartthings to be released here in Australia, so I can pair it with this and control any Z-Wave or Zigbee devices.
Not holding my breath though, since Australian release has been delayed for way too long now…

Any idea if they will add support for xiaomi products?

        • You can control the Xiaomi lights that are setup on the Singapore server, through IFTTT. Can't see that much else is supported, other than using HomeAssistant to speak to everything.. Which is annoying to set up.

Got one from Kogan last week.

      • Ditto. Also because I have a samsung sound bar & WAM multi-room speakers that I could ideally control with GHome via SmartThings.

  • How good is the sound quality if this will be predominantly used for listening to music?

    • It's ok, but I'd term it more a 'casual listening' speaker. It would be ok in a bedroom or kitchen, but not your primary sound source in the living room.

I use mine to voice control music playing on my chromecast audio that is hooked up to some Edifier Bookshelf speakers. The sound quality from those is much better. Main problem is using voice control when music is playing on other speakers, as it doesn't lower the volume of the music after you've triggered it with 'ok google' (if you are playing through the Google Home device, it will lower the volume while listening for a command).

    • Don't use it for just music, was never really built that way.

What is that ? A bluetooth speaker ?

Bought one from the same seller the last time we got 15% off. Arrived today (took about 2 weeks, which is fair). It's pretty cool, and can be used to control things like your smart bulbs or stream YouTube/Netflix to your tele via Chromecast. At this price, I think it's pretty fair. Thinking of getting an extra for the kitchen.

  • Mine also just arrived today in Sydney from citiwide ebay (one of those 15% off flash sales). Purchased 1 June. Just trying it out now, works really well… except i can't get my harmony hub to play nice, probably my fault though.

    • +1

Neither can I. I've a horrible feeling it's something about regions.

      • +2

Neither can I. Ok Google, Ask Harmony to turn on … BLAH BLAH is a miss a lot of the times. Once in a while it works partially with Google Home responding Ok, Here's Harmony and passing the control to Harmony, but then Harmony will have no clue what to do, often responding with Sorry, I cannot find that activity. (-‸ლ)

Try creating shortcuts in Google Home, it works much better. I've created shortcuts to most of my activities. Also sounds more natural, you won't need to say "ask Harmony to".

        • Hmmm I think I have a different problem. Mine always picks up the command but nothing happens when Harmony says it is doing it. So I don't think setting up a shortcut will help if the problem lies with Harmony.

I tried the "Hey Google, ask harmony to refresh" command (from an Ausdroid article), which sounded like it worked ie. GH said "Harmony will refresh now, it will take 30 seconds"… but then, still nuthin.

        • +2

The secret for harmony is to use the shortcut functionality to avoid the 'ask harmony' altogether, I can just so OK Google Turn on the TV and it is a shortcut to Ask Harmony turn on the Media Center. Shortcuts are THE best feature of the google home for simplifying home automation. (I did my own automation on my ducted air and can just say.. hey google make it cooler and the temperature is reduced.)

        • I use IFTTT with mine, sooooo much better.

I say "Hey Google, start entertainment" and my TV + Soundbar + Smart TV device (has all my movies/TV shows on it) turns on. Have similar wording for the other two activities as well. They all start quickly, I don't notice any delay. I then have one generic stop activity which turns off all the devices regardless of what activity is running.

I actually setup HA Bridge (https://github.com/bwssytems/ha-bridge) on a raspberry pi. It emulates the Hue system so is slightly restricted to the sorts of commands you can give, but it works fine for me. I use that to control both my harmony hub ("Hey Google-turn on TV") as well as my Zwave devices using Vera ("Hey Google turn on the living room lights"). I dislike having to run the additional service (as it's a potential single source of failure), but it does seem to be pretty reliable. Only gotchas I've found so far is being careful what you might name a room in Google Home as well as the specific devices in that room within HA Bridge. For example, if I call a room "Living Room" as well as have "Living Room Lights" and "TV" and "Projector" in that room, saying "Hey Google turn on Living Room lights" might actually turn everything on in the living room if it doesn't catch the "Lights" bit. Minor gotcha, and easily fixed by making sure you use names that can't be confused.

Amazingly, the Google Home has actually got a reasonable level of family acceptance - my wife uses it to play music, the kids use it as a timer when cooking…. what I had assumed may be a bit of a toy is actually getting regular use here in the spaceship. I've heard that Google is planning to release the device in Australia before the end of this year - hopefully when they do they will also enable voice recognition so multiple users can use it correctly (eg If my wife asks what's in her calendar, it won't start reading out mine, or if she adds something into a shopping list it will go into her shopping list not mine…)

        thanks for letting me know.

the video is removed and the guy did the review is called Techmoan (has 480k sub)

the product is TP-Link Smart Plug, basically you can use echo to control this plug, so to the according device that had been plugged into the TP-link.

Why does Google have to make a "look at me, I am an ugly bit of technology" and not just make something more discreet.

    • …compared to its competition the Amazon echo it is way more discrete imo.
(did not neg you btw; personal taste is just that… personal).

      • -1

Agreed, but something like integrating it into a lamp or a wall clock or something, would be far better.
