    Just placed my order for a big new HDD and paid :) Very easy.

    Only bummer is that the mobile paypal app doesn't let you change the shipping address! Changed my home address on paypal and tried again, but still insisted on the wrong address with no option to change. Not a biggie but at the same time not a great incentive to purchase on my mobile - the whole point of this promotion.

      I got the same problem with the shipping address. Tried to use my office address but no luck. Well, it will be sent to my home, nobody home and i will go to post office to pick it up, a bit extra hassle.

    just bought star craft 2 for $79.95 the seller offered free pickup…but added a clause that said you cant pay by paypal if picking up…i didnt notice it until after i paid. now he wants to cancel it wtf.

    i am located 5 mins from his pickup location

      nah there's a good reason for why they do that. If you pay via paypal and item is not shipped via a trackable shipping method the seller isn't covered by paypal seller protection. So pickup does not qualify. Once I sold something and the transaction was fraudulent, as the buyer picked up, I didn't qualify for paypal protection.

    than i had t email him telling him that i mistakenly bought it wrong

      It took me ages of going round in circles i too dont think i will ever use it what a waste of time.
      I ended logging into Paypal on my PC then logged in on my mobile and finally let me pay for it after 30 minutes.

          Ok wtf. This seller is so cocky. I asked him to reply quickly before one and he takes ages. He said he would only accept my pickup if I came before 5.30 and let him photocopy my ID. I said I have work but rushed over anyway from north Sydney to central during lunch break. Then upon arrival he cockily remarked "I thought u couldnt make it" . I also noticed while on the train that he replied to my message saying that he had better things to do than sit on the screen and reply to msgs. Really annoyed by that. If he didn't have my id I'd give him negative feedback. Unfortunately he does and looks like he's got triad connections. At least I know where his shop with $1000s of dollars of assets is located if anything happens.

          What a unnecessarily hectic day. Makes me feel like $40 sc wasn't worth it if I had to give out my ID

    This was by far the most complicated, confusing, promotion fail I've ever seen. So many details, so many possible ways for eBay and PayPal to wriggle out of the cashback, so little useful information, so little in the way of instructions, FAQ, support or confirmation of successful transaction etc. I did it, but it was the most stressful eBay transaction I've ever made (and I've made thousands). I don't imagine I'll ever make a mobile eBay purchase again.

        Well, in part it was because I used an iPad instead of an iPhone, even though I had an iPhone sitting here. Just wanted to use the bigger screen. By paying on the iPad (even though I used the eBay iPad app) it seems it hasn't registered the PayPal purchase as a mobile purchase. So now I don't know if I'm eligible for the cashback or not. If I could have known (with some kind of confirmation for example), if it had failed I could have made another purchase using my mobile instead.

          I'm with you, I used my Nokia 6110 and it was the most stressful purchase I made as well.

          The checkout with PayPal button didn't redirect to paypal until the 20th click and since I had to use the full ebay page (m.ebay.com.au doesn't support buy it nows), I had to login with email+pw rather than the mobile paypal.

          I'm pretty sure iPad isnt a mobile phone. It doesnt even make calls! rofl

          I think in order to go through the mobile part you had to have the UserAgent of the browser set to Andriod, or Iphone or similar. If it's just standard Desktop I dont think you'll get 50% back.

    I just bought a CD for $20 however realised I bought it from m.ebay.com (not .au - but I paid using the Australian Paypal) so I decided to buy a DVD boxset remembering to use both m.ebay.com.au and m.paypal.com.au on my mobile.

      1. Check with Paypal
      2. Find out what they think was the problem
      3. Compare the issues with the terms and conditions and advise if the problem raised was not in the requirements

      4. If need be, check what they think happened vs what my records show and advise if there are any differences

      5. If not handled appropriately, proceed from there

      But at this stage, I'll just wait and see :)

    I swear this had my pulling out my hair. So many troubles occurred.

    I purchased the item without issues until I was redirected to m.paypal.com.au
    I could not login through my PIN (which I had activated), and then limitations were set on my account. Had to call them up and have that removed. Then I asked whether I could login using my PIN which he confirmed. However, it was still not working …

    Ended up paying through email and regular password. Will I have any issues with the refund?

    That didn't work well at all.

    As expected, items went very quickly (absolutely understandable).
    Also as expected, it was very hard to pick an item.
    When I finally did pick an item, there was no buy it now button on the Blackberry I was using, despite it clearly being a buy it now item. There was absolutely no way to BUY it!
    Added it to my watch list.. didn't help..
    In the end I got nothing

    Anyone else had a similar problem?

    I tried to buy ps3 move on nokia N95 but it said doesnt support immediate Paypal payment so wouldnt let me buy it.

    So I jumped on ipod touch with internt from a 3G optus device, used the ebay app to buy same item and it took me to Paeyapl app to pay but it kept coming up with an error "this transaction must be completed at a computer"

    i went crap!

    so went back into ipod touch and did entire transaction on safari browser and it went throguh.

    Now I am number 16 in line with their contact center to see if the error i kept getting means I miss out on the 50% :(

    this is a total shame of a promotion.

    I got errors that other have mentioned during check out:

    "Error, we can't complete your payment. PLease pay on ebay.com on your computer"!!!

    The item i was purchasing needed shipping to be entered by the seller and i need to wait for him to send an invoice……..I had to sign into ebay via my PC and ask for it.

    by the time he replied the hour is over……

    hopefull it still counts since I did make the purchase during the happy hour.. just not be able to pay for it.

    Other problems:

    1.Some seller's item is not available for "immediate payment" - that means the buy it now button won't appearr.
    2. If the shipping needs to be set by the seller in a revised invoice.. you can't pay it via the mobile paypal site. You can fix this by requesting a total from the seller..

      Per the terms and conditions you should probably contact them immediately and advise them that there was something beyond your control, the seller had to update the total, that prevented the payment being made during the hour.

      However you did make payment via the mobile (if you did) using the Paypal account that you registered.

    It wouldn't accept my mobile number and pin. I had to use my email address and password. I bought from overseas so I'm not sure if that's even allowed. I used the ebay and paypal ipad app.

    My mother didn't use hers. I tranferred money to her paypal account and the account became limited. It is a new account with no bank or credit card setup. My money is stuck there. Can't spend it or transfer it. :(

    log into your paypal account and click details on your item of purchase, under transaction details they should say you pay from website or mobile. example "Mobile Payment Sent (Unique Transaction ID #xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)"

    Don't know why some of you guys have a lot of trouble. It was a piece of cake for me, with the exception of the research to decide what I wanted to buy.

    Ended up getting the Edimax 3g wireless router with battery for AUD $110 included delivery. Added to watch list, use iphone's ebay and paypal application to buy. Did it in less one minute. Everything was seamless.

    Thought about the giftcards, but like ash was saying, they jacked up the price. Their "lowly" amount of feedback also gave me a second thought. Also wanted to buy gold/silver, but current prices are too high in the shorter term and waiting for a pullback, so gave up on that one too.

    Still a great deal! hope I get my cashback soon! Or the rage will come!

          The terms and conditions don't seem so random.

          What seems random is the information provided that is not from the terms and conditions (even if it comes from their help desks and tweets).

          The conditions seem fairly broad.
          Did you pay using a mobile?
          Did you pay using the paypal account registered for the promotion?

          Nothing about must use a pin etc that some people have found on the web.

          But we'll see in a few weeks anyways.

        Yes I have read this as well,

        But I wanted to make sure and I had a chat with live help.

        The guy confirmed:

        As long as you got the confirmation of registration (I had printed out the receipt and got a SMS), and made the purchase during happy hour using a mobile device, then you are fine. Even if you had problems during checkout like I did, you can still pay later, again, as long as it was made via the mobile ebay and paypal sites.

    Glad to report no issues on my Nokia E71 via the in-built browser. Logged in at 12:30pm, bought a Super Talent USB 3.0 16gb flash drive from overseas, and paid via Paypal all within 2 minutes whilst walking down the street to lunch lol.

    Edit: Actually there was one hiccup. I forgot to change my funding source. I don't recall if there was an option under the mobile Paypal site, but I forgot to switch to my credit card. No biggie but oh well!

      Same-I didn't have any problems on my Samsung Wave. I bought the item, it took me straight to Paypal mobile (which I never used before) and just had to log in. Simple :)
      I don't know why so many people are complaining. Maybe it wasn't that Paypal was having problems, but maybe your phone was having problems. My brother didn't have any problems either on his Nokia.

    What a clusterfork.

    I did not end up buying anything. I wanted to, really I did but the fact that I was using a phone other that the one I initially nominated gave them a possible out in not paying my refund. ( see annoynimous's post asking Ebay help about this on page 7)
    I did not want to pay more than I would normally for an item and then be stuck with something overpriced, assuming the cashback did not come. Too many random 'outs' from Paypal and contradictions with Ebay's info.

    Gave me the sh1ts watching the clock count down and not being sure about my number or the exact, correct Paypal/Paypal mobile method.

    So feeerk this. I think it is the most contradictory and unclear promotion I have ever seen from a major company.

    The should do it again and do it right.

    Got a portable hard drive for < $100.

    Instructions weren't very clear - didn't know I had to get a mobile PIN code to use this till I read all the comments here.

    Used the eBay iPhone app from which it also allows payment by PayPal. Doesn't let me login via email/password as it requires you to input password + some code together in the same field, and I don't have a code. So I registered a mobile PIN. The phone number 614… doesn't work but 04… does.

    Transaction went thru fine but they really needed to be clearer with instructions as there are so many different variables here (ebay mobile site, ebay app, paypal app, ebay app + paypal, mobile sites, PIN codes etc)
