        • Pretty sure it does say something about refunds in the T&C's

          • @SomeGuyOnOzB: My apologies,

I reread the terms and conditions and I could not find anything about refunds in there, either.

      • Because the seller would only get seller protection if he/she sends to the address that is on the paypal receipt..

      • Why did you go through the process of getting the payment refunded? I always thought you can just email the seller and tell him to delivery to the correct address. Thats it.

The seller needs to do a refund.

If they send it to a different address and then the buyer claims they never received the item the seller is only covered under paypals protection of they posted it to the address linked to the paypal payment

  • +1

Ah, so IF you bought and paid in Happy Hour, and IF your PayPal summary says "Mobile Payment Sent (Unique Transaction ID #5BM15….", and IF you got the SMS or somehow know you were one of the 5,000… then you're pretty safe to assume you're getting the AUD$50 on the 15th?

  • A bit of a stinker of a situation happened to me.

Bought a pair of sneakers for $110 but subsequently received this email from the seller:

"Thank you very much for your purchase, and we are really sorry to inform
    you this.

Upon our inspection prior to shipping the package out, we noticed that this
pair of sneakers has a huge factory glue mark that will not come off. It
makes the sneaker look really damaged, and we cannot ship them out like this
    which was the last pair.

Please let us know if you would like to get another pair or a refund.

I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience, and let us know what you would
    like to do.

Thank you very much for your generous understanding."

I chose the refund as he didn't have any other decent shoes in my size. He has refunded the amount to my PayPal account and the status is now refunded (I haven't received the money yet but I assume that will occur in 3-5 days).

So I take it I won't get the cash back, but does anyone still have a copy of the fine print? I'm pretty alright copping it if I don't get it though, free cash is free cash.

    • You can still get to the terms and conditions from the link. The link is just under the blackboard picture.

      • Clause 36 in the T&Cs:

If you receive the Happy Hour 50% Off Prize and file a claim under PayPal's protection policies in relation to the relevant purchase, you will only be able to recover the total amount paid by you (that is, the winning bid amount minus the Happy Hour 50% Off Prize received by you).

So basically, if the seller does the dirty on you, they and PayPal effectively steal your $50 cashback. So while you aren't out of pocket as such, you are out your $50 prize through no fault of your own. Bummer.

        • they and PayPal effectively steal your $50 cashback

          No they dont.

The condition is that you need ot make a successful transaction.
If you get a refund you have no longer made a successful transaction.

          • @anthony: Yes they do…

How about if you make a "successful transaction" on say a memory card. Only to find out later that it is a fake/faulty and you need to claim your money back from the seller?

It was a successful transaction, an the refund is separate to that original transaction.

You still loose your $50 that you jumped through all the right hoops for. Only to be let down by the seller, and then in this case by paypal too.

            • @stumo: So … if you buy and they happily refund, then you haven't invoked the Paypal protection system.

Which means, you aren't excepted … at least on that term :)

(Sounding good as I might have this happen to me shortly)

              • @SomeGuyOnOzB: Yeah that's why I was looking into it too!

I bought a 32GB microSD for $109 shipped, always a bit of a risk on eBay but the seller has >10k feedback with 99.9%.

When I got it today I tested it, and it spat the dummy at 4GB. Doh, but then I remembered it was FAT32, and I had copied a big DVD iso image, and FAT32 doesn't support >2GB files…

So then I loaded it up with 32GB worth of smaller files and re-checked all the CRCs using ViceVersa and its all fine.

So I got a genuine Sandisk 32GB microSD for $59 shipped (after paypal comes to the party).

  • So has anyone actually got their credit yet? Isn't today supposed to be the day for credits to be paid out?

    • my mistake.. just saw it was Oct 15 not Oct 5 >.<

      • i thought the same thing haha

  • YEEHA! Just got my refund from PayPal! Gave me an extra 25 cents, too! (Was only supposed to get $24.75 back.)

  • Got my $50 back too. :D Hooray!

  • me three

  • yay me too :)

    • -1

      …..

  • No refund here.
Why the early return? Do you think it'll be something they'll till out right up until the official date of the 15th?

  • Got my refund this morning as well, Ended up getting 50x Ritek DVD Dual layer for $24.98 shipped.

  • 50 dollars richer baby~!

  • Got mine too!! :)

  • received $50 when i only spent $98 altogether

  • If mine doesn't come through by the 15th there will be hell to pay.
It was hard enough to make sure everything was completed correctly
purchase at 12 though eBay app, pay via paypal mobile after registering number, etc. But I double checked and everything is as it should be.
Waiting game now I guess. :)

  • Got my $50 cashback as well. Glad it panned out well. :)

  • $50 in my account too…. nice one - cheap 1.5gb HD for $53 delivered (less the refund)

    • hahaha exactly the same!!, let me guess WD Green?

      • Haha, i got the same WD Green 1.5TB:-)

  • Woot got my free money!

  • yep i got mine today too yay! was worried because i was one of the ones who had to pay thru the website because the mobile app didnt perform the transaction. I sent them an email on the day and they replied back within minutes to say I would get it and I did. Thanks paypal!

  • got mine too today
    Thanks Paypal :)

  • Got mine today =]

  • Got mine as well.

  • got mine on the 9th, purchased via ebay app but completed payment via computer

  • Still no return here, despite everything completed perfectly.

My sale was completed through the eBay app on Android, payment was via the checkout link but logged in with mobile pin, transaction payment completed at 12.15pm and listed as mobile payment.

Still a few more days till the 15th I guess.
I'd be more interested in hearing from those that HAVEN'T received their return yet. It's obvious the are being processed, so not sure how many more 'i've got mine' comments are required?
    :)

    • +1

Mines not arrived either, interestingly, I used the same method as you on Android, except I didn't use PIN, I used my normal paypal logon. Still shows up as "Mobile Payment Sent" in my PP history.

Wait and see I guess, maybe they are processing/checking them manually.

      • Great to see I'm not alone. :)
I can rest easy until the 15th now knowing I won't be the only one enquiring if it doesn't arrive by then. :)

        • Still waiting here aswell..

  • Woot! $50 free smakaroonies! Did my buy from an android tablet in chrome lite with my home adsl-wifi too. Used both mobile ver. of the sites. Now bring on the next bargain! [or freebie!]

    • how do u know if u got the $50 cashback? Does it just show up on ur paypal balance?

      • +1

You will receive an email notifying you of the successful cashback.

  • Well, the 15th is here but my 50% cashback is not.
Time to send a 'where the f*@k is my refund?' email.

Who was actually running the promo, eBay or paypal?

    • Still no refund here.

  • Nothing here yet either. To be fair they still have until the end of today to pay up.

  • No refund for me yet - also used eBay app on Android. Hmm…

  • My sister got hers on the 9th. I still haven't received mine. She purchased her item after mine.

Hers: Ipad. Ebay Australia. Paid with pin. Shows payment sent from mobile device.

Mine: Ipad. International seller. Paid with email login (pin kept failing to logon). Shows payment sent from mobile device.

    • Just phone the support number and they still reckon refunds should come through today. Fingers crossed waiting

  • I'm still waiting as well…

  • still waiting too…if it doesnt come today, im gona be on the phone to ebay/paypal

  • still waiting too! argh

  • same same

anyone thought it may be time related? I bought mine at the last minute…did the person who bought the ipad buy earlier than you?

    • We used ipads as the mobile device. I bought my item at 12.29pm and my sister (who received a refund) did hers at 12.35pm. We both have the same surname. I won the ebay/ paypal promotion before her.

  • Seems everyone who has gotten a refund so far was for the full $50… I'm only expecting $35 back, is everyone else who is still waiting in the same boat?

    • Mine is for around $34, international seller but it was stated by eBay that as long as it was through Australian eBay site that's not a problem.

    • I spent over $140. I'm waiting for $50

  • yeh im still waiting too!

  • End of day already, and nothing yet. :(

  • I called up paypal they said I'm still eligible and that they are still processing. They said I should receive the refund within the next few days. People, don't worry you if you didn't receive your refund on the 15th, I guess you still have to wait.

  • hope so. thanks for the info guys

  • +2

Called up PayPal to check my status. To my surprise they seems to have the system stuffed up and in the end the guy that spoke to me told me that he will process my rebate manually and I should get it within 24 hours.

I told him what's the issue since I have followed the instruction to pay by PayPal mobile and even got all the SMS notification. He could not answer and he just said there is a system hiccup since they don't expect that many people to participate in this offer.

So my point guys, better to check it with them since if your name is not listed in the system then they won't rebate you even though you guys have follow their instruction properly.

    • Thanks for the heads up mate, seems the same thing happened here. Just got it sorted over live chat. This is what my operator said:

"I will be escalating this right now. And we will be forwarding the item number to Paypal so they can reimburse the money directly to your Paypal account. Please give a maximum 7 days work around time for this."

When i told him this seems to be happening to a few people he replied

"Thanks! Yes. That's correct. We apologize for the delay. A lot of people took part of the Happy Hour that's why were are experiencing a slight delay. But rest assured this will be settled within 7 days."

So get talking to eBay if you havent got your rebate peeps.

      • Still haven't received mine either
Emailed them and then tried and called them up.
The operator was able to confirm eligibility but then went on to claim that they did not have record of a mobile payment. This was made via my iPhone's safari browser so I don't know why there would be any isues as it clearly says it can be made on the website www.ebay.com.au through a mobile phone and paid through paypal through a mobile phone. I would have thought iPhone would clearly be ok and it never said you need to use an app? Can anyone else confirm?

I am waiting for them to email me back - they better pay up, bought over $100 bucks (US$96 at the time)

PRIZES Happy Hour 50% Off Prize

        1. The Happy Hour 50% Off Prize Major Prize Winners will receive 50% offthe total price of one purchase (including shipping up to a maximum of $50) made on the website www.ebay.com.au through a mobile phone or through the eBay Inc. mobile phone application if the purchase is:
          1. made between the period 12:00pm and 1:00pm on Friday 24 September 2010 AEST ("Happy Hour");
          2. made through the eBay.com.au ID number submitted on the Registration Form;
          3. paid with the Happy Hour 50% Off Prize Major Prize Winner's PayPal account (that was submitted on the Registration Form) through a mobile phone.
        • I doubt they'd be able to confirm that the payment was made thru a safari browser. Especially if it was just the ebay.com.au website and not the m.ebay.com.au website. I think most people would have bought using the ebay iphone app (like i did) and im pretty sure they somehow tag that as a "mobile purchase". I bet you they dont tag purchases when you are just browsing the main ebay.com.au website with your iphone. That's not your fault though as the T&C's are worded in your favour.

Looks like you might have to push hard to make your point but it looks like you're in the right (it's just they may not see it that way due to their systems).

Also I might add… What i think they meant by "made on the website www.ebay.com.au through a mobile phone" is to make sure to order from ebay.com.au and not ebay.com. You are in the right here according to the T&Cs

        • misshopper,
I think when you login to PayPal you will be able to see the type of transaction you have made (Whether its mobile payment or web).
          1. Once Login look for the "view all my transactions link" if your transaction not there.
          2. Once you locate your transaction - click on the "+" symbol next to the date of the transaction.
          3. There should be 2 lines of details for your transaction the one with "Payment to" is the one you want
Click on the "details" link and if your transaction is made using mobile PayPal it should show something like:
Mobile Payment Sent (Unique Transaction ID #1231123434344)

          hope this help

          • @HmrW: p4r4m31c1um,

Thanks, it simply says eBay Payment Sent.
It was a Buy It Now and I was redirected to paypal straight from the ebay.com.au site (and redirected back after wards).
It was the first (and only) time I've used ebay/paypal with my iPhone so unaware of this distinction.

Ebay (through their livechat) is now also following this up for me and say will do so in next 48 hours.

    • double post
  • I kept checking my paypal email address for the cashback confirmation, and was wondering why I didn't receive the cashback. But after talking to eBay Livehelp, I realised the money was sent to the email address that was attached to my ebay account instead! An email account I rarely check.. No wonder!

  • Mine still isn't through. Ebay live chat told me to ring paypal on 1800 073 263

  • Got mine, Ebay sent it to my ebay email not my actual paypal email.

  • Finally got mine, payment was sent to my ebay email.

    • What do you mean by this?

My eBay registered email is different to my paypal one, so say I'm registered to ebay with [email protected], but my paypal address is [email protected], did they try to send it to the eBay's [email protected] even though I have no such paypal address??

      • +1

Paypal sent the payment to [email protected] in my case too, which I find really weird.

        • Then how did you log into that paypal account if you hadn't used that address as a paypal account before?
Or did you only discover this through calling/chatting to them and they fixed it?

          • @2023: Oh I did register [email protected] for paypal. But I have never used it. I only discovered that the money was paid to that dormant account after I spoke to an ebay livehelp agent.

I was asking why I haven't received the cashback in [email protected], which is the email I used to pay for my happy hour purchase. The agent told me that I have already been credited the $$, and that is when I realised paypal credited the money to [email protected].

You haven't gotten the cashback? Go speak to ebay or call paypal up!

  • Same. Paypal sent the payment to the email address registered with eBay, which is weird because the registration page also asked us for the Payapl email.

  • Thats it, I'm negging, this is crazy. no fiddy in my account yet, and all this bs about ebay email addresses, wtf? The promotion said $50 in my paypal account by 15 Oct, thats a fail. now it seems I have to go chasing them for it, Grrr.

  • Still nothing. Pretty stupid.
What number did people call Paypal on?

  • Joey4 posted this number: 1800 073 263

I emailed them Friday night. I just received this reply:

    "Thank you for contacting PayPal.

I apologize for any inconvenience. Please be informed that you are entitled for the cash back on the Happy Hour Promotion. I will send your account number and escalate your concern to the department who handles the promotion for further review. Please keep an eye on your account for cashback credit within the next three days."

I thought they wasn't going to accept my International purchase but they are. Yay.

    • cheers for this information mate

i think they took alittle bit too much of board and didnt have the staff to process everything

    • did your payment come through yet?
I got a response a response along the same lines on Monday (emailed Saturday) but have not seen this come through yet.
Anyone else still waiting on theirs from paypal/ebay?

      Thanks

      • +2

My similar email from them said the money would show up in 24-72Hrs, currently they are at 48Hrs, and counting.

        • Same here
I got a confirmation email that they have stuffed it up and I'm entitled to the refund.
the email was sent on 18th so 48 hour already, will see if tomorrow the rebate come up in my account.

  • still waiting, nothing has come through - now over 72 hours

    • I called paypal up today. They said they have alot of backlog as the cashback process is done manually. They have a "list" right now, which would be cleared by the end of this month. So…. More waiting I guess!

    • 96 hours, and counting.

  • +2

    Still waiting.
7 days after the 15th and 3 days since I've contacted them with a please explain email. Sad thing is they have yet to get back to me regarding my payment after their first generic reply yet they asked me to complete a survey on how I think they've handled the matter?!?

I will be calling them now. Every part of my purchase was completed mobile style and in the time frame, yet it seems like they're trying to ignore me until I get sick of waiting. It's fuckin bullshit.

    • cannot agree more mate.
I placed a call to them last night again.
they confirmed I was eligible for the cash back and say they will deposit me.
I will believe it when I see the money.

      • A live help conversation with ebay help confirmed my eligibly to receive the refund and 'apparently' my case was (and I quote)

'Submitted your account details to our account specialist, so this will be taken care of within 24 hours'

That was 4:20 on the 22/10.
        Still no refund…..

I'll be contacting them again Monday, then every day from then on until I get my return.

  • Anyone who's waiting on their refund make any progress?

    I'm still waiting… argh!

  • still waitin on my fitty. shame on you ebay :(

  • Just been following this up - double checked I did everything required by the T&C etc. Queried missing cash back via ebay live chat. Provided relevant details of ebay item # of purchase, and paypal transaction ID. Rep said:

"What I will do is send an email to our escalation team to follow up on the bash[sic] back. They will check if your User ID is included on the list. You will also receive an email from them…. Please expect the email within 24 hours."

  • +1

    this is beyond a joke.

I ring up last week, the guy checks and confirms my eligibility and confirms that he is aware of the situation (in delay of the payments). He tells me I will receive an email within 48 hours updating me on the situation. Fine, sounds good.

One week later, no email received so I have to email them. I get an email back which is virtually a copy paste job of the T&C, basically suggesting that I am not eligible as all eligible customers would have received their cashback by the 15th.

What the hell is this? Can't they even collaborate their customer service interactions? I know I'm eligible, I received the confirmation, so why are they trying to tell me I'm not?

The situation is farcical to say the least.
