ongoing price is only $10 cheaper than myrepublic which is almost 10 times the download speed

    • this is a month to month… so can leave after a month… myrepublic is a 12mth contract ?

    • ahahehehehe MR is 1gbps for $130 a month unlimited :-)

downloads faster than my pc can write to the SSD

      • +1

But your location says South Australia?

      • I had to look that up… in The Gong only :(

        • just launched for a trial at the moment, coming soon to everywhere with a MR POI

        • @wingwang: well you state that it downloads faster than your PC can write to the SSD… well the service isn't even up yet… so I doubt you have tested that. MR are quite well known for their congestion

        • @wingwang:

          MR POI

Does this mean all Optus PoIs or does MR only have access to some? It's my understanding they don't have their own PoIs anywhere…

        1gbps = 125MB/s.

Get a faster SSD. This is SATA2 SSD speeds.

If it could truly download faster than an SSD can write, it would be overkill, and at $130 pm, would lose them a lot of money for very little gain (beyond diminishing returns if you can't even write fast enough).

    • Oh, is there a speed difference between ISPs? I thought they were all the same infrastructure to your home? How does it work.

      • Yes indeed. It all depends on their bw vs subscription. ie cheap telcos oversubscribe. Although some expensive ones do too. Best to do some research for your area as it varies

  • ummm info on website a bit lacking, what are the speeds of the other plans? static ip? more voip info, can you port number, fly by night isp retailer ???

  • I don't know anything about these guys but their acceptable use policy is very good.

  • Nbn sigh

    apparently in my area 2019.

    joke mate

I joined (paid) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/309026 when this deal was on 28/05/2017, They've charged me $49 on my CC, Asked to port my home phone as well, till date nothing has happened. No communication whatsoever. Lucky I'm on 2 months free trail with Amaysim 100/40 which is expiring on 28 this month. I procrastinated so far but from monday onwards I'll be on their tail. I'm on FTTP (One of few lucky ones).

    • I think they updated their systems recently and had some issues with emails. I dont think they were receiving any at one stage. i'm with them on ADSL. A huge service improvement from my days with IINET.

I'm from WA and with Buzz. My suggestion is not to email them. Call them directly and you'll speak to Mostyn or Andrew. My setup was mostly pain free.

VOIP number takes 3-5 business days to be allocated, post activation. Couldn't port ours across.

On the 100/40 and getting on average 60/25 with tolerable ping.

    • +1

My average speed is same as yours during peak. other times I get above 90/35 with amaysim at the moment.

    • Is that FTTN or FTTP?

      • fttp

        • Thats terrible for peak speed!

      • Mine is FTTN. Moving to a static IP in a few days. Receiving 60ms ping ATM and between 40-60mbps dnld.

    • Just out of interest, what do you deem as tolerable ping?

  • This code work for adsl aswell ? Cant seem to find info on download allowance for adsl

    • Seems to be unlimited anyone know how to find if they have adsl ports in your area ie on-net

  • I would up this post, but i have no idea on what speeds each of those are…For ease of viewing. I am gussing:

    12/1 Basic Unlimited $29.00 first 6mths then $49.00 p/m
    25/5 Standard Unlimited $39.00 first 6mths then $59.00 p/m
    50/20 Boost Unlimited $49.00 first 6mths then $69.00 p/m
    100/40 Premium Unlimited $49.00 first 6mths then $69.00 p/m

    EDIT: Found this: https://buzztelco.com.au/nbn/

    • Why is Boost and Premium the same price? Who would get Boost?

  • Same price for Boost Unlimited and Premium Unlimited? Whats the catch?

    • Premium is the 100/40 plan where as Boost is the 50/20 plan.

      • +3

        Yea I know. So why?
"Damn I just don't like all these extra speed, give me half of it only! Yes, I am paying the same, just halve my speed, please!"

        • It's a way to encourage consumers to sign up to the higher cost plan and to also choose Buzz over a different telco, which though now is cheaper, will in time become more expensive and consumers will end up spending more money should they not manage their plan to suit their needs, as necessary. You'd be crazy to sign up for the lower cost plan right? Well, probably yes, for the first 6 months.

Fortunately in this instance, the offer is not locking the consumer into a long term contract so there isn't a risk that you'll end up paying for something that you might not necessarily need, however in other circumstances you very easily could do so.

  • I have no in nbn setup in my house but have it down my road. Would there be any additional charge for the connection?

  • I don't consider 12/1 worthy of being called NBN.

The other prices are good, provided they don't slow down during peak hours. Why is Boost Unlimited and Premium Unlimited the same price? What are their speeds?

Btw, Premium Unlimited is listed at $0.00 cost. Or one of them is anyway.

The plans don't tell me the speed. Not very professional.

What an awful website. And you'd trust them with your Internet traffic? Yeah nah.

    • I've seen plenty of great looking websites with terrible service. Not always a good yardstick.

      • +1

Have you seen crap web sites with good service though?

      • Yeah that's the standard, but for an ISP you'll have to do better than that.

  • Just received the email and setup it up.
    For anyone interested:
Heres the speed test as of 2:49pm.
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/70385/49967/img_6115.j…
    will post peak hours later.

    • when did you signup, My co-tenant signed up about lunchtime today still waiting for activation and we are also in Blacktown

  • I signed up on 28/05. Missed the activation email before and received another email today to setup as static ip address. I'm at penrith area.

    • just as a matter of interest fttp or fttn?

      • Fttp

  • same here, I think they were being optimistic when saying could be ready by the end of the day LOL, we have NBN box with 2 free sockets

    • With fttp they can activate the line within 1-2 hours(read somewhere) if they want to.
