      • Someone took it as I tried to check out - can someone PM me a code please?

      • I'm sorry..I don't know why people don't have the common decency of at least replying that the code is being taken..

  • I would much appreciate if someone kindly could PM a code. I have been looking at this Laptop for a while now but the price was out of reach. With this discount, i would like to take a plunge.

Are there any codes still available? Please PM, will acknowledge use straight away. Would love to grab one of these.

  • Ordered the next model up on ebay for $1,519.20 with 20% off code(16gb ram,+1tb Hdd I7), both fantastic deals imo.

    • Be mindful that the one you just linked is not an IPS display. I've never actually seen it in person but boy do people have some bad stuff to say about the non-IPS screen.

  • Could anyone tell me the Adobe sRGB colour accuracy for this, couldn't find it on the internet. And if it is any good to use lightroom + photoshop.Do you reckon the 2017 Mac deal would be better?

Hey guys, just curious did any of you happen to purchase this item.

I noticed since ordering the unit on the 21/06/2017 that there website has changed the display panel specifications from the IPS unit to the generic TN panel.

    15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display

For reference my original itemised order confirmation sheet/email has the lcd panel inclusions as the following but consulting sales department they seem under the impression all units will be shipped with TN.

    LCD 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display [391-BDBP]

Anyone able to confirm that all units shipped will indeed include the IPS panel as im getting conflicting information and whole purchase was designed around the superior IPS display.

I placed order on 21/06/2017. On order acknowledgement email it is an IPS. But on order confirmation email it is not an IPS.

Called Dell and was told it will be a TN panel. And to cancel the order it will take 15 days. Terrible service.

    • +1

Starting to sound like a massive bait and switch. Which department did you call up? I tried to check with their orders department today and they couldn't help me with anything. It seems like their call centre has moved to India and gone to shit since I last ordered a unit from them in 2013.

I spoke with customer care department and then sales department and then both conference sales and customer care.
Sales department said it will be TN panel and customer care said refund will take 15 business days.
And sales person cannot help as it is an online order.

        • Good thing I ordered with paypal then. If they tell me I can't have IPS then I will just lodge a dispute.

  • +1

Ok it better be a IPS screen or imcalling ACCC , did anyone take a screenshot when it was live?!? Waste of time if its a crappy TN screen!

    Anyone got theres yet?!

    • +1

It is saying an IPS panel on the order acknowledgement email. But they removed "IPS" on order confirmation.

Anyway they are aware of this issue but cannot offer a fair resolution as Sales person cannot help on online order.

    • +1

Count me in if you contact ACCC.

Anyway what is the screen description on your order acknowledgement and order confirmation emails?

  • When it arrives at my door, im not going to sign it! They can take their rubbish back,i want IPS !!!

  • Item breakdown: does not mention ips!!!

    • Well it did, then got changed!

  • +1

Here's a screenshot of the difference between Order Acknowledgement and Order Confirmation. As you can see, no IPS on the second one but the parts code remains the same. This is really shoddy tactic if they were really trying to lure us in to purchase - the TN panel for this laptop is notoriously crappy!

Anyone got full refund on this? I spoke with their customer care team last week and was told he would get back to me tomorrow (27/06/2017) as he needed to find out the person for online order. :(

OZB should ban Dell for doing this dodgy tatic, cheap dirty move by a big corp like Dell..so low

  • Got mine today and I'll admit the laptop has a low quality TN panel. To me, the pictures aren't crisp and look pretty dull. (https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/5rhfuc/the_inspiron_7…)

You could replace the screen yourself for about $100.00 using the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1XFFi0jq_Q

But I'd much rather get what I paid for.

    • I opened the screen up to take a look at the model.

      The screen is a 15.6" LG LP156WF6 (SP)(M3).

This website says it is IPS.
      http://www.laptop-lcd-screen.co.uk/shop/LG-PHILIPS-LP156WF6-…

      Can anyone find otherwise?

      • Keen to know this as I had suspected my panel was TN when I first opened it….Have you escalated this to Dell?

        • I have and the product manager insists it is a IPS screen. It very well may be a very low quality one.

Does your screen images look blurry?

        • +1

@everyone: I can definitely say it is blurry but whether that is due to my eyes coming from a 2540x1440 resolution or whether it is in fact a TN panel is unknown…Something doesn't feel right though.

I bought 3 year premium support because it was 25% off and imo their included warranty is so shit and I hate dealing with their tech team so I paid $1395.26 total. You don't need this because Aussies are protected by consumer law anyway. I just got it for convenience.

Edit: Just got off chat with dell support. this doesn't have an IPS display. It is a TN display but it is slightly improved from last years TN apparently. He said hopefully by next week, they will have IPS displays for the laptop. Maybe they are superseding the current model IDK.

    • Is the screen still notable for how bad it is?

      • Yeah I believe this is still the TN screen. Rule of thumb is if they don't mention IPS then it's TN.

        • In the last deal here, someone mentioned they upgraded to IPS but I'm not sure about this one.

I bought it just then so I'll update when I get it I guess… will be angry if they reverted to TN's again.

      • I believe this latest model has an improved display but it's still TN.
        A decent review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00Bi_iT1zzQ

I have the older model with the worse screen - it's not wonderful, but it's perfectly serviceable. It's certainly not a deal-breaker, and you'd be hard pressed to find anything that comes close to this in terms of sheer gaming horsepower on a budget.

        • Previous version had a screen lottery, so you can't judge by one review. Depends which screen you get in the lottery.

    • This doesn't look like it has the IPS screen like the last deal. If it doesn't then it's not really a notable deal anymore.

Edit: On the last deal I recall it specifically stated it as 1920x1080 FHD IPS. So just buyer beware.

      • IPS is no guarantee that it's good. Previous model was bad IPS, but a lottery, so some people got good displays.

      Here's a code: PM52XTSLP0DV7T

    • Very much doubt it's the IPS.

    • i think the price should be $1,189.15

    Hi All,

I am just updating in regards to the IPS vs TN Panel - here are my investigations.

    1. Upon viewing the screen, it does look average quality. It got better after I turned the red and blue colors down, and kept blue up.

    2. Based off the viewing angle page http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/viewing_angle.php#angleGrey when I look at the screen it does not change colors the text.

    3. Upon looking under device manager > details > hardware ID's the monitor panel is lgd053f
When searched online this page says it is an IPS used in the old dell latitude: https://translate.google.com.au/translate?hl=en&sl=pl&u=http…
Other reddit/youtube/bestbuy sources also say it is an IPS screen.

It's hard to say - but it looks like the screen is a dull looking IPS.

  • If anyone still needs code DKP8VB?G4CV$$L

  • So did we get to an outcome on IPS vs TN for this model?

I know that initially they were all TN, then Dell switched over to IPS, but based on this thread it sounds like they're either back on TN, or have a really low quality IPS (which surprises me given some reviewers talked it up).

Pity they don't offer the UHD touch screen option anymore as that was a decent 4K panel, even if the GPU couldn't game on it.

    • +4

I posted above, and have just compared the old dell TN in jbhifi to my one.

The one i got is 100% better than the old TN, and is not effected at all by viewing angles. It is either a better TN than the original or an average IPS..

After seeing how terrible the original is i am happy with mine.

      • +1

ah yeah I was about to do this today but didn't have the time at lunch but thanks for keeping us updated on this!

Looks like it may just be a low quality IPS.

      • Thanks for the info and doing the analysis! I didn't realise your post was specific to the Dell's TN vs IPS! I thought it was more of a generic comparison (maybe worth editing your post for clarity so if someone else reads it fresh like me they realise it's specific).

      • I second this as well - received mine about a week ago and very happy with the screen. Only downside is the weight though, didn't realise exactly how heavy 2.6kg is until you have to lug it around regularly!

In terms of power, this thing runs like a beast and I could play Witcher 3 on high.

  • Its. Not a ips screenjust a better TN model, make a complaint like me and you get a proper IpS screen

The lady who handling my complaint told me officially IPs models go on sale from late next week

  • The hell is the point of an i5-7300HQ with a 1050ti..? The single threaded performance simply isn't high enough to avoid bottle-necking the 1050… You might as well get an ~$800 model with a 940MX if you're going with this cpu lol

(It's not really that bad, but you could in theory find a similar laptop with a 1050 cheaper - the TI model simply isn't need. Usually a TI is ~$100 extra in a laptop)
