  • stay with trend micro or move to this product ?

    • Never used trend micro so can't help you there.

Used both stayed with Kaspersky as has more signatures and faster updates and blocked a lot more malicious websites

Kaspersky is good. Has lots of features, I like their network activity monitor. However it uses LOTS and LOTS of memory. I tested Norton, Avast, Kasperspy and Malwarebytes and results were… Avast behavior shield 24mb + firewall service 12mb, avast service 17mb =53mb memory total. Norton is 30mb+4mb=34mb total. Malwarebytes is around 200MB usage in memory at all times. Kasperspy is about 150-200mb. As you can see Norton is the lowest AV memory hog app. Gone are the days it use to be a huge system hog.

    • I would not recommend Trend at all. I've seen many compatibility and performance issues in the past couple of years. Kaspersky is definitely the way to go. Kaspersky + MalwareBytes are you'll be safe AF.

      • Same, kaspersky and malwarebytes

  • So you can get this deal for $24.64 whenever you want it?

  • +1

I paid $8 for the 3PC 1YR * KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY 2017 earlier this year. A good price for the 2 YR subscription but not the best.

  • Does the keys expires? I got the last kaspersky deal and the keys expire in about 4 months

  • +1

Can I add this license onto the 3PC/2YR KIS2015 I bought from the Good Guys, or would I have to uninstall that and install this?

The weird thing is, on my Laptop it automatically updated to the KIS2017 version, but it's still got the older KIS2016 interface on my desktop PC (I checked under My Kaspersky, and yeah, only one of my three devices automatically updated to KIS2017).

Is there any way to force an upgrade of the interface, or does that require a re-install?

I've also found that KIS needs to be disabled when installing a major Windows 10 update like the Anniversary or Creator updates otherwise it results in installation errors. Other than than, it's a damn side better than McAfee TP (which I used for almost 9 years).

    • +2

Yes - Kaspersky handles edition / version key changes really well. it tells you if your key is for a higher or lower edition and removes / adds the various components as necessary.

      • Thanks.

So if I have 149 days remaining on the KIS 2015 3PC/2YR, and purchase this and enter the activation code, it will add another 730 days to my current license?

        Sorry for all the questions!

        • +1

          Yes,It stacks.

        • @neworder:

How sure are you? There was another post saying it doesn't.

        • +4

@johnnytran: When a new key is added, once successfully verified, will be added in the license list but inactive.

When the current key expires, the new key will be activated.

Note that with these 3PC licenses, the license start date is registered on first activation. So if you use the license on a 2nd machine 6 months after it was first activated, then the 2nd machine will have 6 months less time.

good price, wondering if I should change from eset which just expired. Eset has been pretty good.

    • Eset/Kaspersky are both consistently in the top. Can't go wrong with either.

    • I installed KIS and went back to Eset - Eset has a more configurable firewall than KIS.

  • +3

I prefer ESET, but moved to WebRoot Security lately because of their updates and how lightweight it is.

    • Yep I have to say Webroot is the best out there. Lightweight and extremely effective.

      • Thank you for your feedback but tell me where is Webroot in the real world testing platform?

        https://www.av-comparatives.org

        • +1

          1) WebRoot is not used on AV Tests currently due to the completely different format that they scan for malware.
          2) If you're looking for independent testing, their own company hires an independent lab to conduct tests.
          3) I speak from experience, AV Tests are unfair to the new approaches such as WebRoot and they don't do well at all which is an issue that was both agreed upon by WebRoot and AV Test.org
          4) WebRoot is 100% cloud based since the issues of malware are only prevalent from an Internet connection, as long as you have good practices in reference to local disks (USBs). I personally believe that antivirus systems such as Kaspersky are out of days requiring signatures to be downloaded.
          5) With this said, I also previously used AvG, Avira, Avast, Kaspersky, ESET, and WebRoot respectively. I've found the LEAST performance impact from WebRoot and it has consistently proven to prevent malware infection early.

        • -1

Disagree with point 4 and in fact that is the iggest issue with WebRoot!!!

          https://labs.bitdefender.com/2017/06/massive-goldeneye-ranso…

          https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2017/jun/22/traff…

Webroot is fast but because it's 100% depend on Internet connection. Without Internet Webroot will be unsafe! Good Luck!

        • +1

          @Torres:

Can I ask how malware comes about then? If your PC is not connected to the internet, and you don't transfer files in between. Your PC is likely to be the safest piece of CyberSecurity. If that's the case, Kaspersky would also be useless in that case without internet. You still have to download signatures. For NEW malware as well, downloaded signatures puts it at a significant disadvantaged compared to the likes of WebRoot.

        • @Torres:

Also, i'm not sure why you're linking me the GoldenEye Ransomware, when it originated from NON-UPDATED/PATCHED systems. That random ware exploit is old. WebRoot posted this back in 2016.

          https://community.webroot.com/t5/Security-Industry-News/Pety…

As for WannaCry, WebRoot again doesn't detect on the basis of signatures. It's a complex pattern scan. Before you can even open a suspicious file, doesn't matter the format. WebRoot will quarantine it instantly, and prevent the process from starting, even manually.

        • If you are talking about a standalone PC with a single user only then it's OK. Otherwise, viruses can come from other sources apart from Internet. For example, internal network or internal emails etc…

        • @DAOtmc:

There are only a few AV vendors who are solely depends on signatures base but most of them are using the combination of various different methods and technologies. ie AI, sandbox, code detections etc… The challenge is how to balance all the features and integrated into a world class software. It has to be tested with all platform, including mobiles. Also, it has to be consistence for number of years. Therefore, it is important to be put in all the tests and compare between with all AVs. I am not saying Webroot is no good. I've yet to see them perform at the highest level and be consistence for number of years.

It likes a new car manufacture, produce a new good car in USA, it doesn’t mean they are the best in the world without being tested. They started since 1997 but I have yet to find their footprint in the corporate world at all. Only in the PC level and SMB market.

    • Yes, It is light weight and better with Aus. support, but expensive.

    • I have at my work place, very lite and fast…
I am thinking to get one for my new PC, currently running AVG Free version. Webroot 1yr+1PC-> $20 from Mwave
Should I stay with AVG free?

      • +1

This completely depends on your own belief in CyberSecurity etiquette. If you understand the basis of not click random links, and not to insert random USB sticks into your PC. AVG will serve you well, proven in the previous WannaCry outbreak. If you surf the Internet at an increasing amount and sometimes accidently click on things you shouldn't, I would highly switch but ONLY if you have a STABLE INTERNET CONNECTION. That part is super important, as WebRoot is Cloudbased 100%

        • thanks for the reply, no i dont click random stuffs…so far i have avoided virus (at least i can see that way :)

Just realized Bought this before but never used it (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/239865?page=1#comment) trying to install it now

  • These are usually $22 at MSY so it's not a huge saving.
    http://www.msy.com.au/internet-security/14866-kaspersky-inte…

  • If I purchase this, does that mean I I get KIS17 for 2 years, or KIS17 for 1 year and it will autoupdate to KIS18 the next?

    • You get free updates. I started on 16 and was able to update to 17.

  • +5

I've been using Kaspersky since ~2009, and each year been happily renewing the license.

Sadly v2017 is the worst version ever, the developers must have left the company to have such a shit product here.

Firstly, the product stupidly blocks your LAN if you switch modems and you have to uninstall the whole product.

2nd, it runs rootkit scans even when you've selected that they only run manual

3rd, some standard COTS products are firewalled

    • +2

      I have to agree.

I have been a Kaspersky user for the same period and there are elements of the Old Norton creeping in.

Basic brand name web sites like Blackboard that education institutions use are blocked by default by the firewall. At times Amazon is blocked by default. Both offer pop-ups to allow access every time the browser is restarted.

Oh, and I have two years left on the current license and every second month a "purchase Kaspersky" pop-up welcomes me. Hoooly fook!

      I'm really after an anti-virus. I might try Kaspersky's Anti-Virus only product.

    • +1

      Have to agree wtih Frostman.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2017 adds all these new features which sound great and all, but are actually useless and annoying.

Been using Kaspersky since 2008 and i prefer the older versions but currently on 2016.

The price for this 2 year key is still worth it especially for 3 PC's.

    • Thats no good :( Hopefully KIS 2018 will be better. That is when my current one expires. Thanks to you, Blyyth and konholyoh for the feedback on this.

    $14.90 on EBAY

    • link us

      • +2

Unfortunately in the Ts&Cs of posting, am not allowed to link; just go to ebay, do a search for kaspersky 2 year,it's the third one down - exact same one they are offering in the above deal :-)

  • can anyone tell me which is the best Internet Security

  • Ah I had recently bought the 5 PC for $49 only a week ago to renew, this would have been great.

  • Does Kaspersky still lock up USB drives and CD/DVDs until it finished scanning them? Used it years ago when USB version only 1.1 and used to take ages to scan a 64MB USB drive…

  • Is it worth paying extra for the total security ?

  • or or…. just go here and pick 1 for free
    https://sharewareonsale.com/product-tag/giveaway+active-deal…

just make sure you dont enable bloatware, read the steps of installation

    • What's the catch with the free software? They have a lot to give on this site!

      • i came across the site, ive used a few of there software, like i said b4 read the install process and make sure it doesnt install other software. ive always being successful at getting only what i wanted. just dont go skip skip yes yes.

      • I downloaded the Norton just then and it's only for a 90 day trial.

    • I can't 100% pin the blame on that site but my computer stopped working properly very soon after downloading the Norton free antivirus offer. Had to get Malwarebytes free trial to scan and get it working again.

Thanks man :) good find :)

    • thanks let me know if you still need a code for PUBG flick on your PM and I'll send it

  • Anyone knows what happen if you were to reformat your computer? Can you re-install Kaspersky using the key again? Thank you.

Thanks for the post. Mine expires in January 2018. I'll add it onto that. I use it on my Samsung Galaxy as well as my PC. Great bargain!

  • How long does it take to receive the key? Bought mine last night.

Saw my name in the post "naru6705", although it may appear from previously tagged post that multiple licences and stacking does not work, it is not true.

Kaspersky lets you stack licences and these are applied automatically. If you buy multiple, licence day countdown won't even start until your first activation on a device.

for your info I have attached a image, from https://my.kaspersky.com/MyLicenses#all
