Thanks, bought the 3-Pack purely after reading the article above :)

The americans will do anything to tarnish the reputation of foreign security firms.

Also interesting to note, Snowden's leaks have also revealed that Americam companies have been working with, or at least have ties with the CIA and NSA. Networking companies like Linksys and Belkin being one of them

      • +1

One of the reasons I run DD-WRT on my Linksys router, not that it really matters…

        • +1

"not that it really matters"… that's what the bad guys always said on Get Smart and Roger Ramjet LOL. There are still reds under the bed!

        • +1

Yup, DD-WRT has been compromised too (by CIA)

        • @Oxxy: Source? Has Tomato?

      • -1

And NSA has revealed that Snowden is helping the Russian government.

        • +2

I must have heard/read a different site when I pressed on your link.

I heard the retired head of the NSA say "you can't tell me Snowdon isn't……", as opposed to "Snowdon is ….".

In other words, he doesn't know. 🤔

          And neither do you.

        • +3

People in government are so dishonest.

"Snowden, Alexander alleged, could have “gone to Congress” to complain about what he felt were privacy violations by the NSA, but instead “took millions of documents then went to China and Russia.” Snowden has alleged that he tried addressing his concerns inside the security apparatus."

          1. If he went to congress, he would have been buried. Quite possibly, literally.
          2. He sent the documents to Wikileaks so EVERYONE could see them - and RAN FOR HIS OWN SAFETY - not 'took those documents TO China and Russia" like that dishonest tool implies.
          3. There was NO mechanism for Snowdon to 'address his concerns' within the system - and he knew it better than most, being PART of that corrupt system. He would have simply disappeared.

"“I think we’re being naïve if we think Snowden is a hero.” The real heroes, he said, were the government employees sifting through data to find potential security breaches within the agency’s systems."

They're both heroes. And the real enemies are governments that spy on millions of their own innocent citizens - lie to us - instead of doing their damn job and keep people KNOWN to be genuine threats OUT of their countries in the first place.

The article goes on cite genuine necessary tasks, but conveniently ignores the privacy invasion and crimes against citizens, which were the reasons Snowdon did what he did.

You only have to look at what's coming out now over there, to know government is about control - not protection. i.e. All these fairy stories about 'Russian collusion', going wild over handshakes, when the Clinton & Obama administration had many fingers in Russian pots (which is conveniently being ignored).

        • +2

@jackspratt: Yep, too many people believe the Fake News spewed out by the USA media which is just respewed by Australian media outlets. It's pathetic.

        • -1

@GregMonarch: How can you call a hero someone who's aligned himself with an authoritarian state, that kills it's opposition leaders and journalists?

I this good old hypocrisy, or does Some people's hatred of the US is so strsng, it makes them blind to common sense?

        • +1

          @elektron:

someone who's aligned himself with an authoritarian state,

          Has Snowdon done that?

Perhaps you have some evidence ………….. besides the weasel words of the ex-director of the NSA …. which could convince us otherwise?

I suspect he is more about escaping a different sort of "authoritarian state"

        • +2

@elektron: He's a hero because he revealed what others should have, what he should never been required to hide on their behalf with some shady non-disclosure agreement, and things that should have never occurred in the first place.

Also do you really believe the Western governments don't kill people? That's the very - and probably only - reason Snowdon ran to those specific places: because he knew his own country and their allies would have arranged for a "heart attack", making him someone the world never heard of.

Heroes are people that stand up and make noise because it's right, even when it's uncomfortable and may ruin their own life - which it obviously has.

I don't hate the USA. I hate corrupt government - wherever they are in the world.

        • @jackspratt: By virtue of closing his eyes to the much bigger evils.

        • That would go against everything Snowden believes.

        • @mattyman: But there you have it. Just goes to show that we know nothing about what it is that he stands for.

        • -1

@jackspratt: Now that it's been some years since he's told the world about the grave injustices carried out by the US government, I'm still waiting for him to tell us about the total disregard for human rights and corruption in his new home, or the first occupation of one European country by another since the Hitler… In the scheme of things, I thought this would be graver than some wire tapping.

The fact that it still hasn't happened makes the him look more like a hypocrite attacking an imperfect democracy while hiding behind a bloody dictatorship, rather than the principled individual the blind US-haters make him out to be.

        • @elektron:

I'm still waiting for him to tell us about the total disregard for human rights and corruption in his new home, or the first occupation of one European country by another since the Hitler……..

These issues about Russia are already widely known and discussed - unlike the courageous disclosures made by Snowden in 2013 of illegal actions by the US government.

Do you seriously suggest Snowden could add anything further to what is common knowledge about Russian repression, or has any deeper insight into what is happening?

I see nothing hypocritical in Snowden's actions.

      • -1
    • What the (profanity)? That's ….that's….. …

  • +13

Propaganda! I would trust Kaspersky over the US government.

Unfortunately in political and ideological wars, like conventional wars, the truth is the first casualty.

    • Yeah, but you are already running windows, so the US is already spying on you. Why get Kaspersky so the Russians get to as well? Might as well stick with the US and just have the one instead of both.

    • -5

If I had to chose I would trust the US government over the Russian government - the fact that Snowden has chosen to work with a government that has no free speech, free press or free elections rather than the one that has all of the above, is very telling.

      • Exactly!

        • All these negs (without even engaging in a discussion) are a real worry, in terms of the story that they tell. I'm actually scared by the fact that these people who would rather live under a Russian-style system than a US one actually have a say in electing a government in Australia!

I just wish they would follow the example of Snowden and actually migrate to Russia if they hate our system so much. Regardless of what I think of the guy, unlike these trolls, he actually put his money where his mouth is.

        • @elektron: "Our System". Which system is that? The non corrupt, just and fair system which upholds people's privacy?

        • @goober:

“Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.”

          ― Winston S. Churchill

          ^^^ That system ^^^

    • Its not one or the other - It doesn't matter where it comes from

Why would you knowingly install any software that is going to spy on you?

  • I'm assuming I can activate it whenever!!

    • +6

      I'm assuming

When you ASSuME something, you make an ASS of U and ME. So don't assume, either confirm with the Kaspersky or just activate it. :)

    • +1

i got 3 codes last year cheap for Total security when the first year ran out i put a new code in and it added 12 months on.

  • Nice find OP…

  • …why is there a handling fee of 12 cents…?

    • I think that's their processing fee of 2 percent of your transaction.

      • +1

…okay….does anyone else have this or is it just me? If it's just me, fine - but if everyone else is given the same 12 cent fee, then OP should amend title to read $6.12…..

        • +1

        • Same for me here. 24c for the Total security.

Went all the way to the end, seems like that's their paypal/card fee, with Internet Banking/Direct Deposit there isn't a fee

  • Does activated mean the license is running?

  • +1

I got the Kaspersky Internet security (3PC for 2 years for $19) from an expired deal (but still active) which was better value.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/315536

    • Kaspersky Internet Security 3PC 1Year from MSY is $6.12, so buying 2 would be $12.24 which is a better deal than SaveOnIT?

      • You'r assuming and hoping that the key wont expire in a years time when you are ready to activate it…so negged..

        • +1

But it says you can stack in the thread you linked? I'm going off that and saying that if you buy 2 and can stack 2 licenses, then it's not better value.

        • +1

Yup, probably right there. Missed the stacking bit in my link..so up-voted.

    • Well not really better value because you can buy two licenses to make up the equivalent two years, which makes $12.24 which is still less than $19… But of course you're one where you can't be bothered to change license info every year, and rather do it less frequently, like every two years, then I can see the value in that…

  • does the key get emailed or posted to you?

    • Product key will be sent to your login email adress within 1-2 busines days, once payment is cleared.

    • emailed. I just received the email of the key and the invoice about 4 hours later.

      • How I keep getting shipping fees?

        • i think OP mentioned the site broke. sorry

  • "VIC" Online Sale Online ??? Anyone know what it means ?

    • Looks like the location of the online store, different items for different online locations. I search 'Kaspersky' on the Online NSW store and these are either not available for out of stock.

  • +2

I have been using kaspersky products since 1997 approx when the anti virus was a DOS based grey coloured UI.

Kaspersky products have always been at or very close to top in well respected detection rate tests carried out by non magazine based independent test organisations like av-comparatives.

I have been following av-comparative tests since about day 1.

Eugene Kaspersky was a KGB operative until about the time the ussr broke down.

I reserve my decision on the current state of US policy and decision making by a bloke who has has a kangaroo missing from the top paddock.

  • Bought two, thanks OP.

  • Can you still access the extra features offered in their Total Security Suite after the subscription expires? i.e. the Data Vault, Backup & Password manager?

  • grr, they were out of stock the last I looked, so I bought elsewhere

  • How does this compare to ESET Smart Security?

    • +1

Putin sends you his personal regards with this

  • Just checking with those who bought two - so you can buy two, then load both codes immediately for a total of 2 years? Or do i have to wait until the 1st year is over?

    • +1

Going by previous comment, you can stack, or queue up the licenses. Once the current license expires, the spare one activates, but otherwise is 'inactive' while the current one is 'active'.

  • Does Kaspersky have a sandbox that pops up when you visit banking sites yet? That is the sole reason I keep going with Bitdefender.

    • +2

Yes, it's called "safe money" in kaspersky.

    • +1

      That's been there for ages.

  • +1

It keeps adding shipping costs to my cart. How do i get around this?

    • +1

      same here :-(

  • +1

tried to buy, won't send me the online key wants to charge me $10 for postage

  • +1

    Same here

  • +1

    same here

  • I had it for my pc last year. Somehow 2016 version didn't want to update automatically even though it was set for automatic update..hopefully they have fixed it now.

  • -2

Spent 10 mins signing up just to have a $12 shipping fee added. Thanks for wasting my time OP.

  • Any advantage with Total security vs Internet?

    • Not enough to pay double for.

  • Shipping $14.74???

  • I bought TIS in the last deal, and it seems to want to perform a full scan at random times (I tried scheduling for 2am only). Is this a known issue or just something weird with my setup?

  • The company owner's evasive responses at

    https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/6ajstf/im_eugene_kasp…

    do not inspire any confidence.

He may or may not be "a good guy", but businessmen don't survive in Russia under Putin's dictatorship without making a lot of compromises.

    • +2

Well, does this mean we have to be careful of Aeroflot flights from Moscow to the USA being spy planes? Or maybe Lada cars in Oz, UK and USA transforming into T70 battle tanks at the press of a secret button, or god forbid Vodka being laced with a truth serum that makes you divulge all your secrets in a drunken stupor.

And, as for caviar - I've always thought there was something fishy about that too….

    • @SwanWhisperer What a profound, educated, non biased, completely researched statement that was. Thanks for the enlightenment!

  • -1

    People still use AV?

    • Yeah, and you don't or just using Windows Defender?

  • Just tried to purchase but still adding $12 shipping :(

    • it's working for me now

  • Seems like the shipping error has now been fixed

    • +1

but the price has increase to $13

      • hmm…it didn't when I bought one. I paid $12.24 for total security. Wish I had bought two and stacked for 1 more year.

  • Shipping charge issue has been fixed.

  • +1

They just jack up prices to $13 and $19. is this still a good price?

  • Yesterday I ordered Total Security then realised I only really needed Internet Security. Sent an email to change the order. Difference in price has been refunded.

Just got my key and invoice states Internet Security. Turns out they sent the wrong key.

    • So they sent you Total Security keys instead?

      • Yeah.

I advised them of their mistake and requested a KIS key to be sent.
