        • @impoze: entertainment book stopped selling Cloes gift cards years ago.

        • @FOX: oh true..

      • How do you pay with coles gift cards?

        • -1

        • @PainToad: really. Still haven't answered the question.

  • +2

Is this the cheapest it's been? (not counting the ridiculous BIG W price the other day).

  • +1

OOps i bought it from OW 2 weeks ago.

    • same :(

      • Ok, My phone was withing 30 days return policy. OW was happy to fix the price and refunded $49.95

        • Nice, did you do it in store, or online?

        • @mashimus: in store.

        • +1

@b4rgainhunter: just now I also went to officeworks store and got 49.95 refund. She did a return and repurchase with price match.

        • +1

I picked one up today from Officeworks for $429. They also did a refund and repurchase, so yes, I got it for $379.05. Great service Officeworks.

  • +3

Is this phone any good? 32 GB seems relatively small given the 4k capabilities of this phone.

    • +5

it is good. 32g(26g actually you get)is still usable, you just need to transfer your videos/photos to your computer regularly.

      • +1

Agree. It's like the question of how long is the piece of string? If someone is really going to shoot lots of 4K video, 64GB or even 128GB storage may not be enough. It's up to how one can better manage their storage space and transfer their video to the computer timely.

        • +1

The solution to how long is a piece of string has been solved: double half its length.

        • @Springfield:Ooooh, that idea is too abstract for me :)

        • +2

@Springfield: If you cut both ends off, it's endless.

      • Actually the latest iOS 11 developer beta changes the way iPhone reports it's storage. It no long excludes the space that iOS itself takes up and it reports the full capacity. It should be in the next public beta and in the final version of iOS 11 on all iOS devices from here out.

        • Love Apple products, but this sounds like marketing spin for 'we used to display 26gb capacity / 0gb used and now we report 32gb capacity / 8gb used'. Some people won't understand why 'reporting full capacity' makes no difference and for them it's a major improvement. Makes me think Apple hate comes from tech-unsavvy people who were set up for disappointment by this kind of hype.

    • +1

This phone is great. On iOS 11 the speed of this compared to the 6 is night and day. Rear camera is good. Lots of RAM. At these prices the SE is great value. 32GB isn't much but you can pay for extra iCloud storage for your photos and to backup unused app data automatically.

    • The phone itself is excellent. I wouldn't recommend a 32GB though.

  • Wait till OW drop their price

    • +2

Then you won't be able to grab 5% price match guarantee from them.

      • pricematch back with HN just for AMEX points…

  • +5

I reckon the price will go down even further here, since Best Buy in US been slashing prepaid iphone se by 50% off their rrp of $399 to $199.

    • +1

I was thinking about that too. Any particular reason this is happening?

      • +2

A new iPhone SE in the works?

        • @vodkamilkshake:

With amazing new features Android phones have had for past few years.

back up that statement with some facts/links. Otherwise that's just another junk fanboy opinion

        • -2

@gummibear: iPhone 8 is rumored to have face unlock feature. My five year old Samsung Galaxy S2 has that feature. Fanboi!!!

Also, so far six apple fanbois have negged me for stating the obvious. LOL!

        • @gummibear:

A new SE won't be this cheap for a long time anyway, so don't let the idea of a new SE put you off snapping one of these up.

        • @noey:
Have a plus vote for providing something informative.

I don't doubt Androids have something to offer, but I don't use one so I don't keep up with their new features.

If fanboys want to convert people, I think it would be more effective to educate rather than trying to shame people into change.

        • @vodkamilkshake:
Have a look at the comment by noey, a great comment deserving of a plus vote for education and effort.

        • -1

          @noey:

Just face it, the iphone was made for people who don't want an amazing phone. You use the same phone 12 year old girls use and dumb instagram models have.

Far out, I love Android fanbois salt. I revel in it.

        • @gummibear: LOL! Fanbois negged him too.

        • @vodkamilkshake:
Apple fanboys are no different to Android fanboys.

Someone even negged my last comment and that wasn't even very controversial.

        • -2

          @vodkamilkshake:

I have like 56 iphones in my possession for testing at work. I roll my eyes every time I have to do software testing on a new iphone or a new version of iOS.
I know how to use an iphone better than 99% of users, but I still don't like their inferior product.

        • +1

That's quite some elitism for someone whose job it is to test iPhones

        • @gummibear: I am not an Android fanboi. I do have an Android phone but that is purely because it is cheap and I can all the customization on it that I want. I used to have an iPhone 4 which I think was their best product. I would surely use another iPhone if their price was reasonable, just like a Samsung galaxy if it is reasonably priced. Until then, I am happy with Chinese brand phones that last almost as much as any high end Samsung or Apple phones.

      • +6

I think Apple will use SE to penetrate developing country, like India, China, countries in African continent dan South American countries. As for developed countries, SE can be used to target younger users. If they start selling it for $249, primary schoolers will rocking SE like fidget spinner. At this price, I personally will go with SE over Chinese Android phones, in term of value.

        • +7

All Chinese are buying the Plus version iPhones from what I can see on the street. SE looks like 5S, nothing to show off about from its size and looking :(

        • +2

I agree with you and I seriously question the recent rumours that the SE is being killed.

There is a contradictory rumour that a new model will be released in August, so I'm holding out to see if that happens.

        • Some people still prefer the formfactor of a smaller screen and footprint hence the reason for this model. It is a matter of preference if you want to go SE over Chinese Androids, but I know I'd go with a Lenovo Zuk Z2 for half this price with with arguably better specs and more versatility.

        • +1

          @jva:

All the Chinese people you see on the streets are the rich ones that can afford to be in Australia. I think Jackfruit was talking about penetrating China itself, for all those people who wish they had an iPhone but know they could never afford one at normal prices.

        • @AustriaBargain: If they can't afford one at normal price, chances are they can't afford one at any price. I know people in China who barely can afford food on the table yet they spend all their money buying the most expensive phone to show off. People wish for an Iphone most likely want to have one to show off to other people. There is no point having an SE. Other than that people who use phone for the purpose of a phone still use Nokia 1100.

        • @AustriaBargain:

All the Chinese people you see on the streets are the rich

I live in Australia, but it's no different to living in China. All my neighbours are rich Chinese people here to cash in on Australia's stupidity.
I think I have to learn how to speak Chinese. More than half the stores in my suburb are run by Chinese people who don't speak English.

        • @AustriaBargain: Damn, they will buy the Chinese brand Android phones which look exactly the same as iPhone (Plus version), instead of the SE!!!

    • +1

Agreed. Collect the low hanging fruit away from Android users.

Does this phone locked with Telstra?

    • -3

Most definitely locked to Telstra for 6 or 12 months. Could be ways to unlock it for a fee. Some ppl have been saying they need it unlocked to travel overseas to get it unlocked for free sooner.

    • +1

just request to unlock via chat for free!

  • No stock at OW near me to price match :(

Oh well, still a good price.

    • +1

Call their customer service, i ordered over phone with free delivery in $379.05.

  • Waiting for the 64gb SE price drops.

    • +1

Not many old stocks floating around though.

  • Just want to check if you searched for the Telstra prepaid one or the plain 32 GB one - I did the latter first and found no stock in my five closest stores, before I saw I had to search for the Telstra prepaid one which was in stock in the first two stores I checked.

  • Unlocked for fifty bucks extra at JB hi-fi is another option

    • +1

According to the other thread Telstra chat will unlock this.

    • +2

Um, not really. The $30 prepaid starter kit can be used as Google Play credit and Telstra will unlock the phone for free.

      • Shit, that's actually a really good point. I'm not in the market for an iPhone, but you've completely changed my outlook on starter packs now, at least from Telstra.

Then again, I barely game on my phone anymore so I'd probably never spend it.

      • Use the $30 credit on Google Play with an iPhone? lol..

        • Actually, it can be done. This phone, while good in terms of CPU, does have its not so good bits. My parents won't be happy using it (screen too small). Also, I noticed quite a few of these discounted iPhone SEs happened to have the Samsung A9 CPUs, compared to the initial batches released which had TSMC A9 CPUs. Also, the LCD screens on iPhone SE apprear to be warmer than iPhone 5S (e.g. white is a bit more yellowish).

I have iOS and Android devices.. and I blame OZBargain for that… lol…

      • +1

how to use this as google play credit?

        • +1

Obviously can only be used in an Android phone.

    • +2

JB is Telstra Prepaid for $449, so still gotta get it unlocked by contacting Telstra.

    • +2

Don't pay extra to unlock a phone you have bought outright. I got an Optus version of this phone even cheaper and it just had an Optus simcard stuck to the box, the phone was already unlocked. And Telstra will unlock these phones for free if you buy one and it's locked to Telstra.

  • +3

Pricematched in OW, $379.05, thanks OP

  • +3

Pricematched in OW, $379.05, thanks OP!
Just unlocked it with Telstra through chat, they are great!

    • Hi, can you please let me know what version iOS it had when you bought it? Thanks heaps.

      • I won't open it for a while… it is a gift.

  • Is this the latest SE model?

    • +2

The "latest" iPhone SE is the same as the earlier one, they simply replaced the 64GB model with 128GB instead. Aside from the storage capacity, the hardware internals are the same.

      • Cool, thanks. Because I heard something about an older SE using a different processor. Just asking for a friend as I normally stick to androids but know someome looking for an SE.

        • +1

Might have been the iPhone 6s mini-controversy with the TSMC A9 vs Samsung A9 CPUs (the iPhone SE uses many of the same internals as the iPhone 6s). The difference is negligible though, so I wouldn't worry about it.

        • @44sunsets: Thanks for the info, I'll pass it along!

  • -4

Great deal, but these are now only $450 (not network locked) on eBay - good for anyone who misses out on this.

So this deal is a 16% saving for the hassle of the network lock.

  • Hi, can anyone who just purchased it please confirm the iOS version? Thinking of grabbing one if it's 10.2

  • +1

Easy to unlock. My mum did so by chatting to Telstra.

  • +3

Price-matched in OW, chatted with Telstra rep online and unlocked it straight away.

  • +1

Also price-matched in OW, and unlocked in 5 min on live chat with Telstra. Thanks OP

  • +1

OW Price-beat at Marion SA worked :)

  • +1

Okay people, I just got this deal as well.

Unlocking process was super easy and FREE OF CHARGE through 24/7 Telstra live chat.

The phone comes with 1 year standard warranty but I also paid another 96 dollars for additional TWO YEARS of warranty via Harvey Norman. I'm pretty happy with my purchase today. ;-)

    • +1

um, don't all iphones come with standard 2 year warranty anyway?
