Depending on dates, you can get Australia to Santiago a bit cheaper here

  • Decent prices. Worth it just to go to Patagonia, but the whole continent is pretty amazing.

I'm flying to Buenos Aires in December with Latam on the 787- can't wait. At the time we booked it was cheaper to fly to BA via Santiago and it seems it still is via this deal. Pretty interesting as you're flying further and incurring more airport taxes even with the stopover in Santiago.

Don't forget to add in the fact you have to pay the reciprocity fee when flying into Santiago, the same also when flying or entering via any method to Argentina.

Actually, this recently got changed for Argentina. Hopefully Chile changes this soon also.

From 1 July 2017, Australian tourists no longer have to pay a 'reciprocity fee' to enter Argentina.

You will only pay airport tax in your final destination if just transiting I think

Decent prices for South America, LATAM are quite good. As mentioned above don't forget to add $117 USD reciprocity fee for flying into Chile. Amazing continent, Colombia and Chile are definitely two of the best countries I've been to.

  • What are my chances for discount fares for November this year?

    Sweet prices! Thanks OP.

Question : "You may stay at your destination for up to 1 year" sooooo can I come back past the 30 June deadline? How does that work. Cant find any answers on website, Might just message customer service.

I was thinking the same thing. If you type a date past June, it allows you to select a flight but not click next on it.

I suppose you could make a change for $205 during the trip to extend it??? Do share if you find out how

yeah, we're in the exact same boat…..have messaged the FB page, will update if they respond.
If anyone has any experience LATME know ;-p

      • Ok so LATAM messaged back and were no help. Couple days back and forth of them just copy pasting the T&C of the sale, I was able to get this from them:

" ME: Hi there,Thanks for your reply. Just to be clear, we can book tickets for Apr 1 and the return for 30 June (last date allowed in your booking system), but then change the return date with the change fee of $205; to a later date such as December, with no further penalty ?

LATAM: You can do changes after purchasing with the penalty fee and possible fare differences per passenger. Remember you can also verify the information while doing your booking, here: https://goo.gl/otv3zd. We are here for further questions. Regards. "

Went into Flight Center, they pretty much said the same thing but (side note- they mentioned something about a Americas travel expo this Friday in BNE and them (Flight Center) getting some deals etc. so keep an eye out..)

    • My partner and I ran into this problem once with United airline. We were told to make the booking with the return date set as far in the future add the system allowed, then to call United so they could put a note against our booking stating that we'd be changing the return date, when the date we wished to fly was made available in their booking system. We did so, and, 6 months late, we called up and United changed the return ticket are no cost, as promised. Top marks to United in this instance as I don't think all airlines would be so accommodating.

      • ohhhhh that would be dope. Hopefully LATAM can do the same, just about ready to bite at these prices.

      • Ok so I tried suggesting them your idea cuz the return dates after June aren't showing up in the system in the first place. Was a no go :( Props to United tho!
        "
We won't be able to do that because in the conditions of the fare you want to purchase, is already set the dates of the sale. The changes will be according the regulations you see here: https://goo.gl/M2fmEh and posible fare differences per passenger. For further questions, don't hesitate to contact us. Regards."

Looks like someone at LAN can't do their maths.

You may stay at your destination for up to 1 year
Fare valid to start a flight on Sydney from Monday, 19 February 2018
Fare valid for flights returning from Buenos Aires before Saturday, 30 June 2018

  • it's pretty hot around those times though

  • I think this will be the norm for flights from Australia to Santiago, Chile now being serviced daily with LATAM,
