        Yes, but to say "Bonus" is then a lie. Basically when someone reads Bonus, it reads "free." Centrecom, I think you're treading a fine line of misleading advertising here. You have charged an extra $50 bucks and then said effectively saying "2 gig ram extra is thrown in as a bonus."

    Great deal on a nice laptop but do you really need 6GB's of ram to surf the net and watch 720p movies? :) no games out there that run on a intel videocard will ever use 6Gb's

    • The guys at MLN is selling the Lenovo G560 067943M model, while Centrecom is selling the G560 067968M. model .

      Really not sure what the difference is, apart from what the MLN guys wrote - meaning it is a significant difference.

          Yup, as explained by Centrecom, they have a 2gig model for $549, 4gig model for $599 and a 6gig model for $649 (with a coupon it'll be $609).

          So you're trading 2gig of ram for a HDMI port, eSata and a slightly better look.

          However still can't get over Centrecom using "Bonus" and then charging for it.

    This is what the MLN guys wrote was the difference between the two models

    :wireless b/g wifi card compared to MLN’s which is a wireless b/g/n, (wireless n is 5 times faster than g.)

    :HDMI is on the MLN version and not on the other version,

    :E-SATA is on the MLN version and not on the other version,

    :Brushed aluminium palm rest is on the MLN version and the other has a cheap plastic chassis.

    :Black Piano gloss finish is on the MLN version as to other version which has the textured plain black chasis

    For $599 @ MLN, I think that is definitely better value for the Wireless card and HDMI output alone. The rest doesn't really bother me.

        • Centrecom does have one of the best HP deals going around with the DV6-3006TX for $899. However, I ended up getting a DV6-3070TX for $976 @ Officeworks. Same machine, but instead of the i5 430chip, it came with a i5 450chip for $77 bucks more… However if you're on a tighter budget but need a good machine, the Centrecom system is good value.

          You guys should also check out www.digitalcentre.com.au. They seem to have the same pricing as Centrecom but they don't seem to charge a credit card surcharge. + you can still negotiate via email or phone with them.

      • I've dealt with Centrecom a few times before and found them informative and I have no problems dealing with them again.

        I just didn't like the fact that they used the word 'bonus' for the Memory when you actually paid for it. The overall package is still excellent value.

        The guys I try not to deal with is CPL in Clayton VIC.

        Gave me a D.O.A. DVD drive and when I returned it an hour later, they said it wasn't theres though after leaving it there, they gave me a new one after a week. I will never shop there again - as usually i can price match down the road at Officeworks, Centrecom or MSY anyway.

        The MLN version of the notebook is a fantastic deal, but i guess you are trading 2gig ram for eSata, HDMI and a better finish. So it really depends on what you need.

  • to be honest with you guys, i bought 3 laptops from MLN, the first time I've very bad experiences there :), When i come to their shop, they have like 6 people there, but nobody even asked me anything, i just walk around and I am the one who need to say hi and asking them about their product. But another 2 laptop, the services was fantastic, so its depends which shop are you in.

      I wouldn't trust them with my money.

        As the notebook doesn't come with blu-ray, is there any different connect the notebook to TV/LCD?
        The reason why we bring in this model, we don't want ours customer pay for the feature they never use.

          Read the reply to your first comment. You have 2 models, one with 4GB and the other with 6Gb(which cost $50 more) so since your charging $50 more it isn't a bonus, more like an optional extra.

          You don't need blu-ray player to use the HDMI port functionality. For easy connect to projector/monitor/TV HDMI is a must.

          If it's true bonus (free) RAM, the price would be $549, same as this Lenovo:

  • I like competition and i think centrecom should bring out better deals and post them on here. but im not a fan of adding 'bonus' ram and charging extra… for a computer being that's already being sold by a competitor (albeit the competitor is selling a slightly better model). A blatant attempt to grab customers, sure, but its a bit cheap and unprofessional. And as mentioned before, the voting does look suspicious.

    Great deals on other laptops would be more welcome. :)

    I am negging purely for the fact that they used the word bonus in the wrong way.

    Even if we were to give Centrecom benefit of the doubt (ie. no sockpuppetting), I still think a neg for the misleading bonus is warranted.

    If I were to add my personal experience with MLN, here it goes:
    I have bought one item from them. This: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22803 - absolutely no problems whatsoever. It was a very normal transactions. Good transactions go by unnoticed, because it is 'normal'. However, if something bad happens, it is noticeable. Bad customer service, etc. is noticeable.

    From this I can conclude that, Centrecom has actually given themselves a relatively bad rep, because of the misuse of 'bonus' and MLN's reputation has been completely unharmed. If anything, enhanced by what has happened from the posting of this bargain from a rival store.

    The only thing I will say is, this is a very good price, but everything else has turned this deal completely upside down for me.

  • Man, Centrecom really does lack integrity. Calling something a "Bonus" when the buyer has to actually have to pay for it! Not to mention other stuff like sockpuppeting.

  • This is not the first time Centrecom have used SNEAKY business practice, BUYER BEWARE.

    The "bonus" remark as pointed out above by a fellow OZB user, is something that they thought they could get away with, but have been busted for

    sockpuppeting is something they have been reknowned for doing previously on OZBargain, not to mention various forums. Just do a search.

    no doubt MLN has the better deal, regardless though, MLN as seen in the other thread actually provide factual non-biased accounts of specifications and features.

      In getting the DV6-3070TX for $976, I price matched off JB-Hifi (they did a 10% off all laptops). If you can't get OW to do anything, just pop into a JB-Hifi Store. I'm sure they will do it as they are quite negotiable.

      Good Guys also has this in stock and they'll probably do something similar.

    OK, I am going to neg now, as the amount of newbie postive voters on this thread is getting out of hand. If the mods inform me that they believe it is not a case of sockpuppeting, than i'll gladly remove my neg.     Like most, I thought this deal was promising at first and was considering purchasing. However, I think Centrecom are breaking moral bridges with all the evidence given above. Whether Centrecom get banned will be an interesting discussion and I'd like to know the reasons behind the mods decision.

  • Interesting I usually shop at either centrecom or msy. I take my friends to centrecom in case they have problems with the PC's I help them build with stuff up cause I honestly thought centrecom were better with customer service. However these actions on ozbargains by centrecom have made me think twice about buying from them again.. Though to be fair I'm assuming their sunshine branch is doing this and not their clayton branch, since there aren't as many fobs there at clayton.

  • Sockpuppeting, false advertising, horrible customer service (personal experience - they'll be good until something goes wrong with one of their products at which point they leave you up the proverbial creek). I now go to MSY whenever I need something, they have significantly improved their queuing times (and I have never had a problem with them thus far).

    Avoid Centrecom!

          • @StewBalls: Whilst i think it is their role to investigate and act on suspicious postings, I'm not sure it's part of their role to pander and become swept along with an accusing mob…. the best moderation is that which is discreet.

            Second point is that, unless someone has reported a particular post as suspicious, the mods may not even be aware of the content of the thread. Negging a post will not necessarily get the attention of a moderator.

            Third point is that sockpuppeting can not easily be identified unless it's relatively unsophisticated. Random accusations, lynch mob style, is not really a 'smoking gun' scenario.

            I think the mods do a great job…. :)
