    I'm a simple man. I see the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Laptop Pentium N3710 Quad-Core + 128GB SSD for $319.20 Delivered and I upvote.

    • +1

no 1080p screen is no buy
      /s

    • -2

It’s not really a deal anymore because it’s the same price everysale

      • That shouldn't make it not a deal.. because it's not available all the time.

You know what would be questionable? 5% off WISH eGift Cards - because they're available 24/7 from Cashrewards

  • +4

this things screams for an FHD screen, even if they slapped on $50

    • I have the previous 2in1 version (with pretty much the same spcs as this) and the screen is probably the worst thing about it. It's fine for watching media, but it's a bit low res for web browsing.

    • +1

Yes, a better screen would be good for an extra $50.

However, it is the same screen resolution as the 11" MacBook Air which sells for ~$1400

  • +3

Bought one last round. Very happy with it.

    • +2

+1 Bought this a year back for about the same price. Very nice unit.

parent have the 2015 hp stream running n2810 2gb ram and 32gb ssd 32gb is main pain limits ability to update windows 10 every time there is a major update I need to reinstall the windows from scratch :(
you think they will see a worthy enough performance boost to warrant a purchase

    • Absolutely. Could sell the stream for maybe $150+ and this'll definitely be worth it for the time it saves you… Will be a huge performance boost (extra 2 cores, both of which have higher single-threaded performance than the stream, and double the RAM).

I have this laptop and for those who don't know:
    * You can change the RAM to 8GB DDR3-L
    * The 128GB disk is usually a Sandisk SSD Plus, a lower-end 2.5mm SATA interfaced SSD. Replacable.
    * Battery is integrated, but a quick e-bay search will see you change it over for not much.
    * Pocket-sized AC adapters can be purchased for ~$20
    * The "Pentium" based processor in this laptop is very low end, but is still capable of single-tasking quite competently.
    * Battery life (while using edge) is phenominal, it will easily last a day.
    * The screens "crap" but it does not use pulse backlighting, so it's actually pretty good for long term reading :)

On to the price - $319 delivered is still good value, but it can often be found cheaper both "as-new" and "refurbished" on Dell Factory Outlet (Australia). I purchased mine for $279 delivered "As new" during July.

    • +1

      Nice summary! Thanks.

Battery life (while using edge) is phenominal

Excuse my ignorance but what's "edge"?

      • +3

        Microsoft Edge (browser).

        • +3

Geez I'm embarrassed but thanks. I thought it was referring to a screen feature like the Edge screen on Samsungs).

I've heard general good things about Edge but not really in the way of battery life!

        • @illumination:

It used to be well ahead in terms of battery conservation, but that's not necessarily the case now. Depends entirely on what pages you're viewing. LTT did a recent, somewhat inconclusive video here.

      • +1

The new Windows 10 replacement for Internet Explorer.

    • Thanks for this information, I'll refer to it in the post :)

    • Is the screen TN or IPS?

    • I am happy with mine other than the touch pad. It's one of the worst I've ever used.

  • Do these have a backlit keyboard?

    • No backlit keyboard.

      • Oh bugger - will have to keep searching :)

        • +2

Xiaomi laptops are the cheapest notebooks that I know that has backlit KB.

Apart from buying a second hand lenovo T/x series or Dell Latitude.

        • Great - thanks for the info :)

        • @scrimshaw: don't forget the controversial Chuwi Surbook also has backlit keyboard.

        • @0zbargained:

          Why controversial?

  • Great laptop however I'm having issues with the charger that came with this laptop.

It simply won't seat into the laptop and keeps coming loose and therefore not charging the laptop.

I've inspected the pins and there does not seem to be an issue so am at an absolute loss about what to do next. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

    • +1

The charging port is probably too recessed or your charger cable is a defect. Contact dell and get them to send you a new charger, and if that doesn't work you might need to RMA the whole unit.

  • +1

I have one of these and it is great. I use it every day for university. BUT I am finding the battery life a bit average. My laptop is on for 4-6 hours a day and I have to charge it every day. It probably sees active use for 3 hours and the rest of the time is in sleep mode. I only use it for web browsing, video lectures (up to 1 hour), and word processing.

    • For web browsing, using edge browser will give you more battery life.

  • OH NO I bought a crappy lenovo ideapad 110S-11IBR for $270 at HN couple of weeks ago and it sucks! Why wasnt this deal around T__T

  • What makes this an OzB favorite? I'm curious. Is it the price?

How does the Pentium CPU compare to M3, M5, i3 and i5? Is it worse than M3 or better? Heck, how does it compare to an old desktop Pentium 4?

Might be cheap to have around, but I'm afraid of it being laggy.

Will the CPU at least perform better than Atom z8350?

    • +1

An M3 will crush it (and it's only a dual-core CPU). Single-threaded performance is probably on par with a ~3GHz Pentium 4 (source), but it'll obliterate the P4 in multithreaded obviously.

      • Does the built in GPU support DX11?

M3 is already a bit lackluster, so that says a lot about the Pentium.

        • Yep, has Intel "HD" Graphics 405 which supports DX11.2. Nothing special of course…

    • I grabbed one for travel, mum got one for reading the paper on in the morning since the local news agency stopped delivering.
It's a tiny little thing and having an SSD for the price makes it responsive enough to actually use.

  • I had one of these, sold it to a mate. Great little machine but I'm wondering when it might get an upgrade to give it just a little bit more guts. I know there's an M3 version with touch screen, shame they don't regularly offer that on the ebay deal.

    • How much does that one normally go for?

      • +1

You can get those from the Dell outlet, 500 dollars refurbed.

But you should buy a Xiaomi notebook for a little more if you want to go that route… they are much better specced. for $642.69 Gearbest, you get…

        12.5 inch FHD IPS
        m3-7Y30
        4gb ram + 128GB SSD
        aluminium body chassis
        edge to edge glass styling
        USB Type C port
        Backlit KB

this curbstomps the Dell inspiron, obvious downside is no warranty and the OS language is Chinese, so you need to grab a Win10 activation key and reinstall in english.

        • +1

          $617 @ Gearbest with a post I just put up :)
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/324079

        • Can't you change the language to english? Or do they have a custom version of W10?

What's the battery life like on the Xiaomi?

        • @lostn:

I don't think you can change the language. This is a Chinese version of Windows 10 that has no multi-language and the embedded license key will only activate for Chinese Windows.

There was supposed to be a work around posted somewhere on Youtube, but I will need to google it.
          edit: there you go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEtZk_QHZhk

          Battery life tested by Techradar

We tested the Xiaomi's battery life by playing a YouTube countdown timer with the screen's brightness set to full. To mimic real-life experience, we left all other settings untouched which meant that the battery saver feature kicked in when battery life hit 20%.

It dropped to 10% after 6 hours 29 minutes, before the laptop shut down at 5% which happened just after the 7 hour mark. Charging it back to 68% took around 51 minutes which is reasonably fast. So don't expect the rated 11.5 hours battery life in real-life unless you're ready to go to extremes to achieve it.

  • It's a pretty good deal, though we have one and to state the obvious it is pretty slow.

  • I bet it breaks at the seams

    • Mine has survived pretty well. It went with me to Europe for 5 weeks last year. It's been carted to and from work every day in my backpack for the last few months. It's no Lenovo T series, but it's solid enough.

      • :) I have a T series Lenovo :) maybe i'm just rough

  • Looking at using this laptop for a linux machine I know some users have done it but how do they find it?

  • +2

Should be good for running Kali

  • +6

This should be renamed to the Ozbargain 11 3000 Laptop.

  • "This code can't be applied to your order."

What's wrong with my order? :/

    • Ok it just doesn't seem to like my account, probably because of the mismatch in PayPal and eBay account emails.

  • what's the shipping like for dell ebay?

    • When I ordered one last year it took about two weeks all up from ordering to delivery. Essentially it's identical to buying from the Dell Website except it takes a couple of extra days for them to translate it across from ebay to Dell, but you end up with a Dell Order number you can check on their website (such as it is).

    • I bought one using a recent coupon. Ordered late on July 31, delivery attempt on August 10.

  • Does dis have ms office included?

    • +2

      Only trial version

    • I bought mine from here

  • Just wanted to point out, the 2 in 1 version with 128gb SSD (which is normally $599) can be delivered for $423.20 using the same deal.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Dell-Inspiron-11-3000-Series-…

I got one of these, only after heading through this deal above and checking out the rest of Dell's store.

  • Dell Factory outlet has about 5 or so of the Celeron/32GB EMMC variants for $199 and even a few at $169, $179.
Get in quick if you're after one of these (quantity too limited for a bargain itself).
    http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/product…

    • Can an Ssd be added to one of these?

      • +1

So the 32GB model (with eMMC) has the RAM (4GB or 2GB) and the eMMC physically soldered to the mainboard, there are no sockets and no ability to change this spec. I suspect that's why they're going for such a low price. If you can keep windows 10 trimmed back, the 32 will be suffice, however I personally cannot deal with it.

Any of the 128GB Models have a physical 2.5mm SSD connected via SATA that can be replaced, along with 1 DIMM socket that can have the RAM replaced. A significantly better unit for that reason, but also almost double the cost :-)

        • I only need it for a remote field testing machine so the 32gb would be fine for me, I might grab one

        • Easy, in that case you will get a machine with a hefty battery life - avoid using standby though :-)

        • @mochariffic:

          whats wrong with standby?

        • +1

I find them (and most windows laptops) to be leaky - so you will standby (deep sleep) and lose 10-15% battery over a day.

Using shutdown and cold boot with a lean windows installation will yield you much longer distances between charges (you mentioned field use).

        • @mochariffic:

Thanks, this makes sense, i can still use standby during that day but will be sure to shutdown between jobs

I just found a spare 64gb microsd so that will help with the storage too

  • It's saying out of stock for the 1 year warranty, works out to be $350 with the 2 year option :/

    • Damn looks like it's sold out for the moment, I'll update thanks.

      • Seems to be back in stock now?

        • Thanks for the update, I took the expired tag off.

    • +1

The $399 option is back if you're still looking.
