Would you still offer 15% off if you couldn't get all the components due to stock levels?

    • +2

Store stock only, no back order

      • +20

If that's the case, no chance of getting a full rig from one store - especially during a sale.
Built ~5 rigs from MSY, never once was able to get all components in one hit, and none of those times were during a sale.

        • +28

I will make sure that local warehouse will ship all their stock to branches for this promotion.

        • +2

THIS!! I never ever get everything I want from an MSY trip, it always ends with a supplementary CPL or Scorptec stopoff on the way home.

        • had similar experiences. Always issues with stock on the items that i want. Have made multiple trips to various MSY stores to get my parts when building PCs

        • +3

in adelaide the alternative is… drive to another msy

        • @hung861988: Are you going to back this comment up? I'd love to buy from you based on this promotion but everybody seems to think that you can't supply the entire lot, therefore no discount, therefore it'll be a wasted trip and everyone will just be disappointed and annoyed.

My dream would be that MSY answer the phones when you call them.

Give us 3 more months, something really big coming just before Xmas :)

          Customer service?

        • +4
        • +2

@hung861988: There is no customer service, the last two times i needed a part I could never get hold of ANY store in WA so i went to PLE instead, great customer service from them and prices that are sometimes better than MSY.

        • +1

          @hung861988:
          Voting suggests no.
Cheapest prices with genuine customer service would make you guys the standard for all other stores to be compared to.
Customers would be a lot easier to deal with too, which would make life easier for staff as well :)
We both benefit in that relationship.

@hung861988: love it. Here, take 1. haha

        • +4

          @hung861988:

Not all stores are bad. I frequent the Dandenong and Clayton stores. I feel the guys there are usually quite good.

        • Updated website in planning by the looks of your current job postings 😛

        • @hung861988:
Most frustrating thing is people had bad experience with stock levels so we would like to confirm if you have stock before pop in. But no one ever answer the phones, then that is bad. If you cannot afford extra staff to answer the phone, get a system so people can check and reserve stock for a few hours before the trip.

        • +1

@zacsg1: I found NetPlus to be good also.

        • New website coming right? Wasn't it announced in Feb you were looking for staff to make a new website built on magento?

        • Amazon is coming.

    • This! Tried calling to verify stock quantities for a full build at least 5 times. Gave up and went elsewhere.

      • +1

I reckon it's easier just to email, I tried to call about an order one time and they didn't pick up. However when I emailed I got a response within minutes, way better.

        • +1

I think their email location is a deserted shack in the desert!…I still have an unaswered/unfulfilled order in my history from 6 months ago.

      • It always takes about 60 rings, but i generally get through every time I've called in SA. Still not great, but they do answer eventually.

    • +1

thought it was just me last time I rang them, now I know I'm not the only one.

    • I don't even bother anymore, they don't have a phone number as far as i'm concerned.

    • I once spent so long trying to get them to answer their goddamn phones that the store finally closed and I just about flipped my shit.

Almost 1.5 hours and half a dozen phone calls.

WHY EVEN LIST IT IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO ANSWER IT.

  • +18

My dream would be that MSY made a better website. Its stuck at year 2000!

    • +91

PARTS.pdf is all you need!! :D

      • +5

I've memorised the link for PARTS.pdf hahahah

      • +16

remember all the times milling between model xxx or yyy

Final decide and go into store for xxx and get the "we have no stock"
then you change your mind and say i want yyy then and get response we dont have stock of that either

then you get the snide remark…you should of called to see if we have stock

    • -5

Agreed. It would hardly cost anything for them to setup a simple Wordpress + Woocommerce shopping cart and hire a Filipino to input all of PARTS.pdf into it.

    • +20

MSY website and PARTS.pdf are national treasures but also function as noob filters for the people who would be better off going to HN/JB HiFi instead of clogging the local MSY :)

      • The worst is when noobs still end up at MSY and asking for recommendations.

      • Yeah I have come to actually like it for this!

    • +3

I have no issue with the site. I would say that the store is for people who know what they are looking for, and if that is the case, the parts.pdf is all you need. I do however, have an issue with calling for stock and general customer service. It really seems to depend on the person serving you if you get decent service or not.

    • +1

Any time I need to buy PC related shit:
      1. Go to PCCG website and browse the products
      2. Purchase from MSY

      • +8

3: Then back to PCCG when MSY don't have the stock anyway

  • Just about to build a new i5 system, I am not sure if this deal still valid for below scenario,
    CPU: Y
    Motherboard: Y
    Graphic Card:N intel on-board
    RAM: Y
    Hard Drive/SSD: Y
    Case: with a PSU
PSU: N (case with a PSU)

    • From the ad, it looks like they want you to have a separate psu and case. Since you need to go instore, just ask them.

    • +5

Yes, should be fine. You already have onboard graphic and the case with PSU, no need to purchase extra GPU and PSU

      • thanks.

  • Do you build it for us?

    • +2

No, extra $70 for them to build it.

    • +2

Build it yourself, it's like Lego and there's no shortage of guides on YouTube.

  • Hmm to build or wait until Coffee lake… Announcement in 1 weeks time…

    • yeah this is kind of annoying, it'd be better if they delayed the deal until coffee lake at least

it makes buying an i5 more of a gamble

      • +18

I thought it is the whole point of the promotion ? Clear out old stock and start fresh next week ? :)

        • True, Intels new chips, AMD Threadripper and Vega.

        • Next week I'll be researching coffee lake motherboards and then waiting for an ebay sale

    • Coffee lake

What is up with these code words lol

  • +1

First in, best dressed, no stock reservation

This is not going to end well…

  • feelsbadman i just bought my new build last week :(

  • NUC included? I want to build a new htpc

  • Would love to take advantage of this offer and build my dream rig with msy but:
ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Extreme Motherboard : NA
ASUS GTX1080 ti Poseidon Plat edition : No stock since launch
AMD Ryzen 1800x / Threadripper : low stock = no stock on thursday / NA
Corsair Vengeance RGB 4x8GB : no stock
    NZXT H440: NA
    SSD: available

    • why Asus? I'd rather go with the X370 Taichi and a 1080Ti Hall Of Fame card, it's the best 1080Ti by far.

Especially after the crosshair6hero bricked itself with an auto UEFI update…

      • I'm open to suggestions regarding the build and will go do more research on the mobo but why is the HOF card the best 1080ti by far?

  • +4

Now that I think about it, it may be a bad time to buy

CPU : Coffee Lake releases a week from now

GPU : Overpriced right now due to bitcoin miners (though you can just buy a CPU with integrated GFX)

SSD : Overpriced right now due to lack of materials

RAM : Overpriced right now for same reason as SSDs

    • Does anyone have a realistic idea of when (if?) prices may settle down, or is it anyone's guess?

      • +3

Personally I don't think the pricing for GPU, SSD and RAM will be lowered anytime soon

        • lol
looks like you got negged because people are upset about that fact ^

      • +4

If you want it, get it now. Prices will spike once war breaks out

        • More wars you mean.

        • Prices will spike once war breaks out

          lol.

        • because computer parts would be the most important of your concerns if this happens

  • +2

Hey Rep, it would be awesome if you ran a workshop at PAX to teach guests how to build a PC and give them a hand to make sure they do it right, in return for buying all the parts from you.

    • +7

      Coming really soon :)

    • +1

They are currently offering the building service for $70. If they teach the customers how to do it themselves, they lose that potential $70.

      • +1

Some people want to build it themselves but are not confident of their own skills to try it alone, and it ends up being a barrier to entering the PC gaming market. computer shops like MSY do PAX for marketing anyway, not because it's highly profitable. They will sell so many more components anyway for everyone in the workshop who needed to buy parts on the spot who might have ignored all the hardware for sale in the glitz of PAX otherwise

  • Hi Hung,

I just ordered a system last night on the MSY website and am feeling a bit unlucky to have seen this deal today!

Is there anyway to retrospectively apply this deal? I have already transferred the money last night.

This is a new account so I'm unable to private message you

    • +5

That's part and parcel of being an OzBargainer, always just missing out on that sweet sweet discount

    • Shoot our online team an email to [email protected] to see if they can help you out. Please don't mention about this 15% off promo :(

      • Please don't mention about this 15% off promo :(

Why? You are convincing people about your good customer service….

  • +1

    Hey Rep @hung861988
I bought Motherboard from your store last week (I can produce the invoice), would you consider 15% for the rest of the items if I buy only those
    (CPU+RAM+HD+PSU+CASE)

    Thanks

    • Have you open the packaging of that motherboard yet ? If not, check with the store if they can do anything for you.

      • Thanks for the reply, It is still in the box, but what it has to do with opening the box, I'm asking the discount for remaining items considering I already bought the mobo. I will check the store anyway, Moreover it doesn't cost them 15% on motherboard which otherwise would considering it is just sold week before. Thanks

  • OP, can you select what you need and exclude some stuff and still get the discount? I.e I get everything except SSD/HDD or ram?

    • Need to be a whole package bundle :)

  • I have a decent case and PSU. Can I purchase everything else with this deal?

    • Just buy a cheap Shaw case (built in PSU) to be eligible for the discount and try to sell the Shaw case later.

  • +1

I personally prefer to shop at Scorptech these days, Customer service wins sometimes over a few bucks worth of savings.

  • +3

This is the most responsive MSY has ever been. Makes a nice change from the usual.

  • +1

Pretty smart move for clearing out all that overpriced graphics card inventory.

  • +1

I want to build a new PC with ryzen but reuse my current GPU. From what I read, the ryzen series doesn't have igpu so does that mean I'm forced to buy a GPU? :(

    • +3

Protip : Just buy one random motherboard with display output eg.VGA/DVI/HDMI and we can give you the 15% OFF discount.

  • Anyone have any experience with getting MSY to build the PC for you?

    • Not sure about the other state but VIC should be decent :)

  • Can we buy more than the maximum?
for example more than 3 graphic cards? or more than 4 SSD?

    • +1

Probably the extras just won't be discounted.

  • -6

    Hi Hung,
I just bought motherboard, CPU, ram, had, psi & case from your store 3 days ago. And at that time I already saw the post on Facebook said 15% to build your own PC. And I called the phone no. on Facebook but no one answer my call. Then after a long queu I asked the staff in store they said they don't know. And even on Facebook the people comment no MSY staff reply the post. I'm rush to get a new pc, and the staff in store was inpatient to answer my question. I think maybe it's just gimmick at that time.
How come it's now 15% after 3 days!!!! I don't believe the store staff don't know this promotion on last Saturday.

    • -2

      NO customer service at all.
No matter Facebook, on the phone or in store :(
