  • Old model clearout time!

    • OK but any good? I may only use it for car.

I already have Miele for home a bit difficult to use it for car.

      • +2

Handstick seems a little overkill for the car. You'd be better of getting a normal handheld and then the more appropriate accessories - mini turbine, flexi-crevice etc.

        • +3

May as well just use the coin operated machines at the car wash unless you have particularly filthy pets/children.

      • +11

i don't use my DC35 for the car, I find the handheld lacks the suction and the size of the unit around your hands makes it hard to get into places. I use the full size dyson with a hose for the car.

        • +2

The review linked to in this comment suggests it is a decent option for the car but what you say sounds logical too. Confused lol

        • +1

@illumination: I use my handheld for the car but also use it with the actual Dyson car attachments like the bendy hose bit to get into the crevices. Just as long as you're aware of run time you shouldn't have a problem.

        • +2

I find my V6 hopeless for the car, not enough power or run time.

Maybe it depends on upholstery or carpet, but it's not powerful enough to pick up things, especially dog hair.

And as mentioned, you can't really get into the nooks with one, much better using my barrell vacuum and attachments.

        • @Scab: So do you have the V6 and DC35, and find the DC35 preferable for car use or are you just objectively saying the V6 doesn't work well in the car?

        • +1

          @illumination:

Just the V6, don't have the 35 but I doubt it would any better in the car.

        • We have the V8 (most recent model), and it works okay-ish for the car, but not amazing. In particular, it struggles to get all the fine sand and dirt out of the foot carpets, even with the small spinning head attachment. And as scab said it's also hard to get into some small places - you can use the attachments, but often this results in less power. Note: I have only tried standard mode, haven't tried it on "Max" power mode yet, will try that next time. I definitely notice though that it has much less suction than the vacuum machines at service stations. So I would imagine that the earlier models with less power would be even worse. But for my needs, it's a better overall trade-off to do it a bit more frequently with the V8 to a lower standard in the garage at home, than drive to the service station, buy a vacuum voucher, potentially queue, and vacuum madly before my time runs out, potentially with people waiting on me, and then drive back.

        • I've got the DC54 but wasn't willing to use it on the car. I bought a cheapo one from Woolworths when they had it on special. I think I paid $40 for it. To my surprise, it was quite strong. Highly recommended if you want a cheap one for the car.

        • @nickj: are you able to update your comment after you've thoroughly tried the max mode please?

        • @berry580: tried on Max mode and it's definitely better, grabs more of the dust and sand. Still hard to get into some crevices, such as the driver's foot well.

      • +2

I's a crap model, only had trouble with mine. After the warranty is out, there's nothing you can do except get expensive dyson repairs.

        • yeah. The reviews are not that favourite

        • +1

I'm sorry to hear you have had trouble with your Dyson cord-free machine, please feel free to reach out via [email protected] and our Dyson Experts will be more than happy to help. - Shan @ Dyson

        • mines collecting dust. V6 better. V8 the best. 40mins of clean.

        • -2

          @overshopper:

          what about v12?

      • have had mine for maybe 3-4 yrs now, still works ok. got the new v6, a world better. but if only for car and quick little things its pretty good.

      • Thanks for all the comments, if this is not powerful enough for car how can those small handheld enough for car?

        • its good for the car. but if thats all your getting it for maybe get the non-stick version like v6 for a little more and a whole lot more suction power. its a good buy for 200. but if you got a bigger budget get the v6.

        • We've got a Dyson V6 and a Dyson barrel (can't remember number).

I tried the V6 once for the car and gave up.

I only ever use the full size vacuum with attachments for car now.

Vacuuming the house though, it's almost exclusively done with the handstick…

        • I haven't found the V6 overly useful for the car. Doesn't get sand out of crevices, etc. I also have the DC58 Animal, which "seems" better (ie seems to pick up more), but is probably just the head attachment on the carpets.

I came across this review of handheld vacuum cleaners the other day, and was curious if anyone had tried the Black and Decker ?

        • @Tiggrrrrr:

I may try this because I already have the Ozito Power X Change 18V Compact Drill so that I can use the battery on it.

      Old model clearout time!

You mean companies sometimes discount older models, how long has this been going on?

  • +3

OP, any chance of $300 off V8 anything?

    • +42

Here you go, buy about 300 to get $300 off.

      • +3

        Smart @rse…

      • only need 292 :P
        bargain

  • +3

How does this model compare to the V6?

    • I would like to know this as well. Thank you

      • +1

I have both, the V6 is definitely the better unit, but the DC35 unit isn't really that far behind (maybe 50% less suction) but the 35 still has turbo mode for really dusty or long pile carpet, it still manages to fill a canister of dust pretty easily. Remember 6-7-8 years ago this was the bees-knees of cordless dustbusters, back then everyone was raving about them. For under $200 this is a steal.

Official Dyson store with a feedback from a whole 1 customer. Nice.

    • +1

Everyone has to start somewhere I guess 🙂

    • Stores have to start somewhere, they don't get hundreds of feedback straight away.

    • +1

The deal is advertised on the front page of ebay.com.au so it must be legit.

      • Complete with a "But It Now" button :-)

    • -1

Ozbargain hate for a statement of fact. Interesting. Everyone must have imagined my evil voice!

    • See my comment below on confirming that eBay page is official Dyson page.

  • Hi Rep,

Is there any chance you can do a similar deal to your warehouse sale at Taren Point which you ran over the weekend?

I was told the V6 fluffy was $250 and the V8 Absolute $600.

At this price point the better option would be the V6 slim which can be bought for $260-$300.

    • Drats didnt know about the warehouse sale - wish you would have posted it here on OzBargain mate. Anyway agree with you worth foking out extra ~$70 for V6 over the V2 in this one. I had the V2 and then moved onto V6 - suction is much better.

      • +8

I posted the sale here but was removed. It was criticised to the highest level possible.

        • +1

          Why was it criticised?
I have noticed that members on Ozbargain are becoming more and more ….

        • +5

@congngo: yeah exactly what you're thinking. I just want everyone here to know about the upcoming sale, i'm not trying to rake in positive votes or anything, i just want to contribute somehow. I didn't have much information about it, all i knew was that prices start from $149 then negative comments flew from left to right. That's why i always hesitate to post here. It would be good that if you don't have something nice to say, just keep it yourself right? Well, i'm not the one who missed out. It was definitely worth the drive. Just felt bad to the others like some here who wish they knew.

        • +1

@Izefyre: yeah something that Scotty will have to address eventually. An unfriendly community will result in fewer new contributors and less growth.

    • I was there yesterday. Don't know about the v8 absolute but absolute+ was selling for $799. Big difference i must say over the price.

      • What other notable deals were they? V6 for example?

        • +2

I would say am05 $249 rrp $599, v6 fluffy $249 rrp $649, small ball allergy $299 rrp $699. Relatively ok deal am08 $449 rrp $569, cinetic ball animal $599 rrp $899, v8 absolute+ $799 rrp $999, v6 absolute $399 rrp $599 ($499 dyson website). Few accessories on sale as well but they were no better than the 30% off deal posted here

  • +1

Thanks OP. "Dyson sucks" should be their moto

  • quite a few mostly poor 1 star reviews -> https://www.productreview.com.au/p/dyson-dc35.html

    • The very early model of these (approximately purchased prior to 2013) featured a removable battery, which unfortunately did cause problems after few years. Dyson made changes to the design and in my experience it has definitely fixed the problem.

      • Considering this still has the same model number its only fair to assume its basically the same unit. If they did change anything sig inficantly then they should have changed the model number as well … after all why keep the bad association , when its clearly different and deserves a fresh start ?

        • Yeah it probably should be made a bit more obvious, but the old ones had a clip-in battery and the new ones are held in by 2 screws.

  • +1

I have one and it does a good job of vacuuming the carpet in my small apartment.

    • Suggests that the DC35 is pretty good..

  • +3

This is already for sale on ebay for $300, so im not sure exactly where or how anyone can say the regular price is $500. Ebay repo drop the price to $99 with a 7 day return no questions asked and i will buy.

  • +2

I prefer a vacuum I can plug into the power outlet and not worry about the high pressure 13 minute countdown until the battery dies

  • +1

Not many positive reviews of this seller on Ebay!

    • But isn't this Dyson Australia itself?.

      • +1

I dunno. How do you tell?

        • +1

The company logo is a bit of a giveaway.

      • +1

So what? Dyson Australia can be a bad seller. How do you know they are reliable without any reviews? Just cos they are reliable at the stores which are managed by the actual store owner (e.g. JB HI-FI, Harvey Norman).

Its like saying McGreggor is reliable boxer just cos he can UFC

  • Is the unit you can change the battery on the fly?

    • Dyson don't sell the easily removable battery anymore. Wanted to buy just the battery last week, but had to buy the whole motor and battery unit :( Should have waited till this week to get a whole new one/

      • You can buy the Genuine replacement battery off eBay but look at the price $123.

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/967861-04-DYSON-GENUINE-BATTERY-F…

        • Also china makes one - http://www.ebay.com/itm/22-2V-1500mAh-Li-ion-Replacement-Bat…

But i am more concerned about how easy is it to change over, press button to replace or do i need to remove a screw?

        • @spriggan43:

That one is a non genuine aftermarket. I wonder how you would go for warranty if using a non genuine battery. The one i linked to is the genuine Dyson battery for it but it's $123 just for the battery itself. Also that non genuine battery is probably really crap quality. Also in the pictures on the bottom of it says it's for Dyson DC31, no mention of DC35 and it's also only a 1500mah battery. That's not the right battery to begin with.

Also apparently there are 2 screws which need to be removed to take the battery out.

        • +1

The battery cost almost as much as the vacuum!

        • @congngo: Dyson is the apple of the cleaning world :p

        • +2

@spriggan43: like Bose is the apple of sound.

  • +1

Probably being paranoid, but did Dyson Australia only just decided to go on ebay? this ebay acc only has 1 feedback.

    • The store is being promoted on the main banner on the front page of ebay.com.au. So it would be legit.

    • +1

      Hi Works1235,

Please be assured this is our eBay Store (just opened in the last few weeks).

If you'd like to confirm legitimacy, you are welcome to email [email protected].

      Best wishes,

      Shan

      • +4

        Hi Shan,

What's it like working for Dyson, do they give you free attachments?

        • +1

Don't be surprised it sucks working for Dyson.

    • Hi I have got replied back from that [email protected] about that eBay page:
"This is our official Dyson eBay store. If we can be of any further assistance please don't hesitate to email us back or call us on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm.

I have had three of these form of hand held vacuums and reckon they are great. I have one upstairs, and one downstairs. The newest one replaced the oldest one as I got a good deal on it. I do not use or recommend to use them to vacuum an entire house unless maybe you have a studio apartment. I leave the crevice tool on all the time and we use them for spot cleaning - the stairs, the skirting boards, the corners in the bathroom where hair collects, the toast crumbs on the floor after breakfast etc. For that purpose the maybe 15min runtime is more than sufficient.

The suction is good, they are light, they are easy to empty. Yep they are good in the car although the non-flexible tool is not ideal. Can work out ways to get into most areas though. I read some of the negative reviews on productreview and many of them say that they are great but after a year or two they start to die. Yes. That would be right. They use Lithium Ion batteries that last between 2 to 5 years if they are not used at all. If you use them, then they have a limited number of charges. In general, you will find that the batteries will last up to about 2 years before needing to be replaced. Less if you use them a lot. Once replaced, back to new.

Price no object I'd go the newer model, but this is a good price.

    • I have one upstairs, and one downstairs

Isn't the point of handheld so you don't need to feel it is such a hassle/inconvenience to carry the device around the house?? Haha

      • +1

Yep, but I have a big house (mistake - the kids will never leave - but anyhow) so have one near the kitchen (mainly used to suck up crumbs etc) and one upstairs used mainly to clean hair from bathrooms (three women with long hair) and the stairs. It's an indulgence and for some time we only had the one, but got them on special so what the hey.

    • +1

      they are easy to empty

Not so sure about that, they look very similar to the V6 and they are a pain to empty as the dirt clogs between the canister and cyclone funnel.

      • Ah. Correct (usually when hair wraps around the funnel), but over time you learn how to pull that barrel off to clear that as well when it needs it.

  • Only really good for sucking up crumbs, Not much else

    • Totally agree.

      On hard floors;

Sand, sugar, dust or fluff is fine.

Rice or anything bigger is a no go.

The only positive the Dyson has is convenience. It does convenience really well. Vacuuming, not so much.

  • For something made mostly of plastic " i'm guessing for lightness? " these are very very good.

  • how does the dc35 compare to the v6 slim ?

  • Would this be a fine vacuum for a small two bedroom apartment? I'm using a normal barrel vacuum (forget the brand, but was around $99 from Godfrey's a few years back), and wondering whether this is worth the upgrade.

    • +1

yep .. way better than a cheapo full size vac.

      • Disagree

Was just looking for a stick vac and saw this

The reviews are mediocre at best

I have a cheapo bagless twin canister , 2400 w and its been going for about 8 years strong

    • Its very handy. Makes cleaning fun!

  • $199 at bigw. For someone who isn't keen on waiting.

    • If you can find any stock

  • Pity 20% off doesn't apply…

  • Hey OP any deal on am09 heater, cheapest I've seen is $399 new? Thx
