The additional features that Mac/iOS users get are fromthe W1 chip inside that delivers enhanced Bluetooth performance, seamless sync first time with your device withou having to go through BT settings, instant sync across all your devices once you sync with one of them, etc.
So scenario:using them with phone on the commute. Get home and turn on your
Mac, airpods automatically work with your Mac form a click on the bar on the top of the screen, even if you have never previously synced them together. Apple Magic. Similar if you moved over to an iPad. Also Apple Music follows you too.

Nope for your information I'm a Apple phone user, I find beats, And xiaomi earphones hell a lot more better with comparison.
Even the JBL Reflect Mini BT is cheaper and more reliable.
The JBL reflect have wires connecting the earphones, so they are not in this category. I have the Xiaomi BT earphones but they are also connected by wires.

The closest tend to be dearer. Sony and B&O just announced some that might be better, but only have standard Bluetooth capability and cost a lot more, but probably sound better.

A lot of people seem to like that "I've got one cumshot in each ear" look, and are willing to pay up to AU$200 for it.
Jaybirds / other bluetooth headphones, or wired headsets with decent sound quality can't provide this.
Amazing price. I ordered two last time $209 each from Myer and claimed gst, which still cost me 190.this one is merely 183 and less than 167 after claiming gst. You can easily sell it in gumtree for more than 200.
Great product if you do not use it in a noisy background. I have jaybird and now I use more AirPods. I also had boss qc25 but sold it straight after couple of use, not portable, too heavy and sweat a lot, not a good product for outside.

Why should anyone buy this expensive and low quality Airpods compared to other brands (Sony, JBL …)? I found Apple airpods are not as good as Sony ones.
For me its more about how easy they are to use - rather than the quality of the actual headphone. For example you simple take them out of the charging box and they literally sync to your device in less than a second. They also sync this quickly and easily across multiple iOs devices (laptop, phone & iPad.) Also zero cables is life changing.

These are more convenient than I originally imagined. The whole unit with case is 3/4 the size of a tic-tac box. It has yet to desync like my Sony Bluetooth heaphones tend to. I have a MacBook, iPad and iPhone; switching between them is effortless, whereas I previously had to manually disconnect from one device to connect to the other. Now I just tap connect on whatever device I want and it's good to go in 2 seconds.
The aren't super snug like canalphones but they are super light and won't fall out unless you physically knock them. Not an audiophile but they sound as good as my Sony hear.on and little worse than my ATH-AD700. Certainly better than my variety of $20-100 earbuds. Also no wires at all means no scrapping/smacking noises while moving.
You can buy two smartphones for the price of this single pair of headphones. Just saying.

Don't think the design will change at all so no one will know you're wearing the older pair. Much like the Apple Watch. Admittedly that's set to change next week but don't think this design will change anytime soon.

I noticed there is a minor update to Airpods most likely going to be announced Wednesday morning.
Looks like they've moved the charging indicator to outside the case, rather than inside the lid. Hopefully that's all but I won't open mine until the announcement in case it's a worthy enough update to return these.
