heh wow I was going to say "But alcoholic mouthwash causes cancer"
      However this article says: http://www.dentistryiq.com/articles/2014/06/mouthwash-and-ca…

"However, the link between oral cancer and mouthwash is not at all clear. The association in this study was only significant when looking at very frequent use, three times a day.(1) As this is not considered normal use, the reliability of this risk estimate is diminished. "

      Also this article is interesting:
      https://www.glamour.com/story/is-alcohol-based-mouthwash-bad
      Says:
"These companies put alcohol in their mouthwash as a flavor carrier," he says, "to provide some 'burn and bite' and to give a short-term antibacterial shot to your mouth (and it is short-term … trust me; mouthwash is not necessary, or even very effective, in combating bad breath or the like.) In other words, alcohol makes the mouthwash "seem" effective. It's marketing, plain and simple."

      • "alcohol makes the mouthwash "seem" effective. It's marketing, plain and simple.""

Yet most mouthwash these days has "no alcohol" as selling point….?

      • That's such a bad correlation though. Think about all the people who enjoy alcohol in the world, would expose more of their mouths to alcohol than a daily mouth rinse. LOL.. How many of you Alco's have developed Oral cancer?

        • +2

But when you use mouthwash, you are supposed to keep in the mouth swilling around for 30 or so seconds. With booze it doesn't touch the sides ;)

        • +1

@Ruckmauler: lol.. It depends on how many drinks through the night that includes. You dont brush your teeth with Tequila? lol

        • +4

I've come across a few cases of oro-pharyngeal cancer where their history of alcohol intake was a probable contributing factor.

"Alcohol can act as an irritant, especially in the mouth and throat. Cells that are damaged by the alcohol may try to repair themselves, which could lead to DNA changes that can be a step toward cancer.

Alcohol may help other harmful chemicals, such as those in tobacco smoke, enter the cells lining the upper digestive tract more easily. This might explain why the combination of smoking and drinking is much more likely to cause cancers in the mouth or throat than smoking or drinking alone."

It's about 3-9x greater risk of having oral cancer for > 4 drinks per day.

          https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2954597/

If the alcohol component of the mouthwash has marginal benefits, then I don't see why I should shoulder the risk either - marginal or worse.

    Sounds a refreshing deal!

    • +2

      Worthy of a plague.

      • +3

        That's a bit drastic.

      • +2

I think you'd better rinse your mouth out with all these bad puns

        • +5

I'm just going to ignore that and brush it away.

  • Time to stock up.

  • Nice deal.

  • -1

    Woolies is abit tricky here.
It says 1/2 price on deal, so it means only 2$ before (why do they post 4$).
Below is same mouthwash with 0.5l for 6$.

    • +4

Buzz, go back and look at the actual deal.

It says "Better than 1/2 price".

Do we half to make stuff up now to complain about?

It's also a pretty standard but infrequent deal on this size.

      • The better than is in a tiny font and easily overlooked. Don't think it's an attempt to make anything up. Asking questions is a good thing.

        • +5

There were no questions in the post I replied to, only incorrect statements.

      • +2

Do we half to make stuff up now to complain about?

        No, we're better than that.

    • Perhaps because it is a smaller bottle so 75% off the 250ml isn't as good as 75% off the 500ml, but still really good value.

  • +1

$1 is cheap, usually its $2 when its on sale.

  • +1

If you have a serious problem then I would go for a serious solution - Colgate Savacol. Not cheap, but worth stocking up on at the Chemist with the Amex shopsmall deal.

    • This guy gargles.

      • +2

        Heals scabs too! :)

  • Is it just the green one? Much prefer the taste of the blue one

  • +6

Mouthwash is mostly useless. You're mostly buying very short term minty breath and the perception of cleanliness.

If you have bad breath it is most likely tongue bacteria - get a tongue scraper, use daily. Otherwise it's probably active decay which needs a dentist / bushing to fix.

Mouthwashes provide extremely limited gingivitis prevention, most of the damage comes from build up / tartar. You need a physical brush for that - swishing liquid will do bugger all.

    • +2

      This guy brushes.

    • +1

This. Also, don't forget to floss!

    • +3

Might also add, when you brush you REALLY want to focus on getting the bristles into the shallow gum pockets at the cusp by brushing lower than what would usually feel normal. Don't do this and while your teeth may be clean, you still risk gum disease.

Also drinking / gargling water or chewing sugar free gum after acidic drinks (soft drinks but also juice, coffee, beer) as a matter of course will cut down on a significant amount of enamel erosion and is a great habit to get into.

      • Great tips and advice. Didn't think about coffee being acidic.

  • Excellent. Stocking up for my brothel.

    • +1

I can assure you they don't use mouthwash at brothels, it stings too much.

  • Ideal for that foul-mouth back-stabber like MT.

    • Is that you, Tones?
