  • Any reviews or feedback on this ppl? Looking at the TCL 65" from Costco which is double the price !

    • +1

Changhong got good reviews if you are looking for a cheapo UHD.

      • Yea for $799 doesn't seem like bad deal.

      • Pretty happy with my Changhong purchase.
Would probably have got the TCL if I had the budget.

        • Any issues that you have noticed ? How's the wifi strength? Does it play at 60 Hz? I've seen ppl complain about lag. Also, Netflix , YouTube work ok or you use Chromecast or something?

        • @brokenarrow: didn't bother with the 'smart' functions if the TV. I just paired it with the Xiaomi Mi box. Pretty good TV for the price.

        • +2

@brokenarrow: even tho it runs android it wont work with netflix youtube etc. Add on a chromecast or android box :)

        • @solidussnake:

Netflix installs from the menu, and works. Lo-Res, but works.

        • @Steptoe: doesnt it need to run through that awful cinevision. But better to run through a native 4k output like cc etc

    • Which TCL exactly? I couldn't find it on the Costco site.

Chances are the TCL has HDR. That's potentially a big deal.

I gotta say I am impressed with Soniq panels, but I am also impressed with how many dead Soniq's are being sold/given away on Gumtree just outside of warranty.

I am dying for the TCL P607 to arrive here, I am close to just getting it shipped.. ergh.

Doubt this helps, but shoot the TCL model and we can have a squiz.

      • +1

I don't have the model number on me but let me call them up and ask them. It was $1699 from what I remember and definitely 65". It was in Canberra Costco.

Apparently, other reviews I have read on these say the wifi is crap, and the smart features are pretty much useless.

        • +1

Yeah man. Don't ever buy a tv for it's smart capabilities (or lack thereof). Apple TV, Chromecast, MiBox, generic Android box (not in that order) are waaaayyy better options.

Buy the tv for the visual specs, if you aren't going to soundbar or amp it, check the audio.

Forget smart bullshit, it is so poorly implemented.

    • +4

No point in waiting for good reviews. It's a below average TV. Soniq are for people who don't care about picture quality just the price. They usually are reliable TV's, but have issues with blooming, backlight bleeding, bad colour reproduction, dead pixels appearing quicker and bad contrast and brightness.
If you do get the TCL make sure it is the P series which has the full array local dimming and other great features. I think it's only issue is the brightness…

      • +2

Baloney. Me and relatives bought 4 40" Soniqs for $399 a number of years ago. They certainly aren't perfect but picture quality is superb and still no dead pixels years later.

Issues we did have were occasional sound 1 sec dropouts (till update mostly fixed this) and the fact that the built in tuner doesn't do the newer encodings (so requires HD settop box for some HD channels) is an annoyance. Menu isn't crash hot either - particularly the EPG. To save over 50% over a name brand easy to live with these things.

        • +4

Like I said… if you don't care about picture quality get a Soniq. I'm talking about specs for a 4K TV which you obviously don't care about like, FALD, HDR, wide colour gammat (BT2020), contrast and brightness ratio and good upscaling. I did say they were reliable too if you didn't realise! Sorry to offend your precious Soniq :) Yes even I have one and its still working fine last time I put it on. But there's no point in buying a 4K TV if you don't have the specs and features to show the difference over a 1080P TV

        • @Monstalova:

Our main TV is a Sony 55". I know the difference between a brand name TV and this one. And you bet I care about quality. The TVs I'm talking about are FHD, because I don't drop my pants and update to the latest and greatest every time an industry's marketing hype machine goes into overdrive.

Picture quality on the Soniq isn't that different from the Sony. Menu sucks on the Soniq. Remote is actually better. The Sony remote sucks and I have to keep pulling it apart and removing silicone oil (that makes it unresponsive) from under the keypad because they cut corners making their rubber keypads. So even though the Sony has a better menu it's harder to use 5 years down the track, whereas the Soniq hasn't changed.

I'm also aware there is a difference between 4K and FHD. But you have to have good eyesight (and wear your glasses if you need them for that eyesight to be good) and sit at the right distance to appreciate it. It isn't the jump we got from SD to FHD. THAT was worthwhile.

If you're rich and have $4k to drop per room, or only view in one room by all means by a wonderful high end tele. If you view in more than one room and aren't rich get multiple cheap ones do the job and let you enjoy your viewing at your convenience.

        • It really sounds like you have no idea in regards to the tech and what specs are needed to actually see the proper uhd content and difference - Or don't care. This thread is about 4k televisions by Soniq. Not full HD TV's that were released years ago by them. That you felt obliged to defend for some reason.

        • +3

          @Monstalova:

You said: "Soniq are for people who don't care about picture quality just the price." You didn't qualify that in any way.

Also "Menu sucks on the Soniq" seems like a strange way to "defend" a brand. Might want to check your definition of that word eh champ.

I simply think you're leading people astray with your blanket assertions.

But keep down-voting people. Did you know that when you downvote it alters reality and you suddenly become correct?

        • -6

So just like you downvoted my comment?. Stay out of the conversation if you don't know about the technology or don't have the proper equipment to compare it to. I didn't qualify my difference?? I thought that's all I was doing. Your the one who is talking about the remote. Which is minimal compared to the actual picture! Soniq compared to Sony X900e - Contrast is about 1200:1 (Sony X900e 6500:1) Brightness 300 nits (Sony 1000 nits) local dimming, which you need for better blacks and response time, X1 processor which is the best for motion and upscaling lesser content than 4k. Wide colour gammat and HDR. Soniq uses 45% Sony uses 96%. Plus BT2020 which Soniq doesn't have for HDR colour. Better sound on Sony with Dolby and dts integration. Sony has Android Tv so you can install more apps and games just like an android phone. I don't know what more you want. Soniq is a very average TV. You did alot more then defend the remote. Read back your own comments to yourself!

        • +2

          @syousef:

Upvoted your comment to cancel out the downvote. Don't why someone is being a sandyvag over them. They seem quite fine to me.

        • @BlinkyBill:

          Thanks.

        • -1

          @Monstalova:

          I haven't wasted a downvote yet today.

Would you like me to spend all 5 to prove that to you?

        • -2

I still don't know what your doing in this conversation. You don't own a 4K TV or know how to get the best out of the technology. You are arguing over the mediocre 1080P Soniq. It's a ludicrous comparison! So everybody only gets 5 downvotes? Is that what you're telling me.. Mr multiple accounts. I've told you the benefits a few times but if your happy with your 2013 Soniq that's fine and like you say don't wana change technology so quick. (I understand since 1080P did come out in 2005) that's way too short a time to switch to a different tech! I guess you'll still cling on to that Soniq that can't even produce a correct 1080P picture compared to something like a Samsung 720P from years back that actually has a better overall picture

        • +1

I bought this exact same Soniq TV when the deal was going around and I picked it up for $349. Definitely cheap at the time compared to similar TVs. Poor response time when compared to a brand name, menu was disgusting to navigate and look at but that's merely the operating system and doesn't affect TV performance. Colour reproduction was terrible, slight backlight bleeding (noticeable), and the contrast and brightness was poor. I remember noticing this after watching a movie and the blacks were shaded gradients of each other and scenes with fire in it made a 1080p movie look like 480p.

Not having a go at the TV, i still love it and use it to play games - without any issues such as dead pixels. But it's important to recognize the weakness of Soniq TVs in comparison to brand name variants like Sony or Samsung. Sadly with what games, movies and TV can offer these days, it turns Soniq into an over-sized paperweight

        • +1

          @Monstalova:

I still don't know what your doing in this conversation.

Take a class in comprehension. I've already told you I was correcting your wildly inaccurate blanket statement. Cheap TVs have a place.

If you're going to accuse me of having multiple accounts, you better have some proof buddy. And why wouldn't I use my main account in addition to others if I did? Just in case I wanted to show you I could downvote? Please.

But I've used my 5 now. Hope that makes you happy.

Btw this is Ozbargain, not OzThrowAwayMoneyOnANewTVWhenTheOldOneIsFine. Brand loyalty is for suckers. There are good and bad models, and good and bad batches.

        • @kenunderscore:

I didn't tell you the model number, but you picked up the exact same TV? Should I be worried you're spying on me?

The TV I have has great quality picture. Soniq have done several of these cheap TVs over the last few years and some models were better than others.

      • +1

I bought a Soniq and returned it the same week to get a Samsung. The picture quality difference was night and day. That was 3-4 years ago now, when the cheapo TVs were across the board pretty bad for picture quality. Maybe they have improved.

  • +4

Is the Q in the logo removable ?

  • +11

Soniq are utterly rubbish picture quality & reliability
    Buy something else

    • Yep. Always see them on hard rubbish.

I've picked up and repaired a couple; they're often just cheap (literally a few cents) worth of voltage regulators that need replacing, but that's not an agument for buying them new (but if you see one on the side of the road, get it as you might be able to fix it easily!)

The only way this would ever be a 'bargain' was in the above scenario.

      • +1

That is why there are plenty of refurbished tvs on soniq's site.

  • +4

65" , perfect for your kitchen?

    • Perfect if you don't cook.

    • +8

      As splashback glass?

      • -1

I think LCD TVs are plastic, will probs not hold up well.

      • +1

All walls of the house as LCD/LED really is going to happen in our lifetime (unless you are 70). Windows and views will stop mattering at some point, 4K screens already cheaper than double glazing. Just turn the whole house into whatever scene you want.

        • I think I paid more than $799 for the splashback glass in my kitchen. Haha..

      • +1

        Splashback for my toilet

    • Don't put it in the kitchen or your wife won't cook.

    • +1

I wish my bedroom was big enough to house a 65" TV!

  • Before buy, Check all 3 models available for the same price!

  • +4

    Can't understand why people buy these junk $800 65" tellies. Spend a $1000 on a 55" Samsung.

    • Samsung are mainly edge lit TVs you would prefer a direct backlight with FALD. Unless it's a high end model which has the tech to get rid of the faults with edgelit panels. Otherwise you will still get some of the same issues as the Soniq. Plus I don't know what model Samsung would sell a 55 Inch for $1000!! Good luck with that as it would be a 2007 TV surely. Base each TV off its specs not just by brand!

      • -1

Cost me less than a $1000 with an eBay discount code almost a year ago. A great telly with all the bells and whistles. https://imgur.com/a/RnIPF

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/275704

        • -2

I wouldn't say all the bells and whistles especially as it's a 6 series… Which means the lowest of the 4K TV's for Samsung, but I'm talking about now lol not last year. Just having a look through jbhifi. Cheapest 55 Samsung is near $2000 for the mu7000.

        • @Monstalova: Fancy backpedaling, bro. Did you mention 2007? Samsung still have it listed on their site. It's a good telly, Brent. http://www.samsung.com/au/tvs/uhd-ku6000/UA55KU6000WXXY/

        • -4

          @Chateau:
Wow you are a strange one! 2007 was an exaggeration obviously! I have no idea of the prices in 2007. But you send a link to their site that says RRP $1799?! Show me a Samsung 55 4K TV available for $1000. That was your original comment right.

        • @Monstalova: I just showed you a 55" 4K Smart TV with HDR for $956, concentrate. Shop around and do some haggling.

        • -4

You said buy a Sammy 55 for $1000 instead of this Soniq. You showed me a deal that was about a year old. Living in the year 2017 I was just wondering if you could show me a valid deal like you stated. You can't so keep quiet. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…
That's the cheapest JBHifi has for Samsung. Which is double the amount. Good Luck mate, your gona need it!

  • +1

Don't buy this crap. Please. It's refresh rate and contrast and colour are terrible

  • Got a 1080p one of these for a local Hall.

Smart TV functions are pointless but much brighter than using a projector.

No problems at all, takes a little while to boot up though.

Would be happy with getting one for home at this price

  • Bought the VX15A last deal with the extra 5% off. One bright (red) pixel, one dead pixel.

Plays Kodi fine with MyGica fork of Kodi 17. Then install the all-in-one of your liking. Needs a microSD card though.

Soniq TVs are NOT renowned for longevity.

You'll see a lot of reasonably recent models out on hard rubbish. They use cheap components that fail regularly (I personally have repaired a few that I've found) - steer clear.

You get what you pay for.

    • 3 year warranty + ACL.

      • ACL wouldn't be likely to apply much of a statutory warranty in this case; it's based on a purchase price and expected longevity based upon that.

Basically, if you bought a cheap product and it fails just out of warranty, your statutory warranty won't extend as far as it might on a smaller, more expensive TV.

    • +3

I can't kill my stupid Soniq 42" HD Plasma in my Kitchen. I don't mind the below average picture quality as it has the added benefit of being a heater.

  • +3

Hang on just measuring my toilet. Brb

  • +1

Been using this as a monitor. No issues but flipping menu is slow - as expected. Sound is rubbish so need other sound outlet.

  • +1

For what its worth, I had a Soniq 43 inch Full HD TV and its still going strong. We just got the LG OLED 55 inch C7 off the other deal today but I will move my SONIQ to the bedroom.

For the price, you can't go wrong. Get the 3 year warranty offered by JB HiFi.

    • Includes 3 year warranty. Don't pay extra.

      • Are you sure? The website says that it comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty.

Update: the 15A model from this link is 1year, the 16A model (same price) is 3years

FREE 3 Years Extended Warranty Online Offer for Smart TV Models

          The SONIQ FREE 3 years extended warranty online offer only applies to the following smart TV models: E42S14A, E43V15B, E47S14A, E55S14A, S42V14A, S42V14B, S48V14A, S49VT15A, S55V14B, S55V16A-AU, S50VX15A-AU,S65VX15A-AU, E55V13A, U42V14B, U55TX14A, U58V14A, U65TX14A, U65VX15A-AU and E40V16A. It only applies to brand new models, not refurbished models.

        • @Steptoe: This is nice.

But I think with the JB-HiFi one, you simply go return the TV in their warehouse for a new replacement? And with this you deal with Soniq directly.

  • you know nothing jon snow

  • Just ordered one. 3 years warranty is good enough, but hope sonyq wont to bankrupt in 3 years time….

  • anyone know the vesa measurement for mounting this? tried searching the net, nothing came up…

    • 400x300 I think.

  • Stock not available in Queensland. Unfortunately, any orders for delivery in Queensland will be cancelled and refunded. We apologise for the inconvenience.

    • What are you on about? I ordered one yesterday, also spoke to sales rep and they said plenty in Brisbane.

  • Ok so I bought this TV and here's my review. Keep in mind I'm no TV expert but I know enough.

    1. Picture quality is surprisingly quite good. Better than both my 10 year old 42" 720P panasonic plasma and 6 year old 32" Full HD Samsung LED (as would be expected). So I guess in that respect it's decent upgrade for a second lounge room TV. The main issue I noticed is that this TV is advertised as being 4K/100hz but it doesn't even do 4K/60hz, only a max of 30hz so playback at 4K is pretty much unwatchable due to the stuttering/low frame rate. So really the whole point of being a 4K TV is almost pointless. The motion of the video is also taking some getting used to compared to my other TV's.
    2. TV reception is fine and tuned in all available ATV/DTV and radio stations no problem.
    3. No noticeable audio sync issues either through DTV or external media player.
    4. No noticeable dead pixels or anything like that.
    5. In built speakers and audio quality are terrible. You need external speakers to actually enjoy.
    6. The TV takes nearly a minute to boot up. This is rather annoying and not what I'd expect for a brand new 2017 model television. That being said, it's maybe something I could put up with for the price.
    7. The TV can often take longer than a minute to simply switch from TV to an HDMI input. It seems to appear stuck on no signal until it finally detects my meizu media player after some time. This is a TV issue and not a media player or cable issue which I've thoroughly tested. I think this could become rather frustrating over time but perhaps something I'll put up with - I will see…
    8. The menu system looks old and outdated. Clunky to use.

    2 out of 5 stars.
