So you have to shop before eat?

    • +2

No, eat first, then have the amount on the receipt deducted from from the item/s you purchase.

  • No eat before you shop…den you can shop for free for dat amount

    • TH

    • +1

      *b4 u

      you missed two there.

      • +1

Also *…den 'u' can shop '4' free '4' dat amount

  • +19

Doesn't matter which order you do it in, as long as you are aware of how much you will eat. If you are shopping for a big item, obviously you won't be able to eat that much, unless you brought all your cousins along. But eating first has the advantage that you know how much will be free.

Come to think of it, there's no limit to the restaurant spend, right? So if you are buying a kitchen, bring all the relis for a free meal. :)

    • +1

      True Ozbargain style :)

    • +2

      hahaha, i like your thinking… ;-) - just organising the logistics…

    • +1

er…Are you sure the order doesn't matter? It says that they'll take the price of the meal off your purchase, as opposed to free food to the amount of your purchase…

      • +4

        That's correct.

If you select goods first, then you know what the maximum free food you can get is.

On the other hand, if you eat first, then you know the minimum purchase that you must make to get all the food for free.

So do whichever way fits your way of thinking better.

        • Oh you meant selecting what you are going to buy. I thought you meant it didn't matter which you purchase first.

    • Genius

    • +20

Or if you're making a big purchase, just announce to the passers-by, lunch on me! lol

      • +2

        HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

        GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Holy smokes; I thought they'd do anything to prevent you doing that Bitsurf — but apparently not:
        http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_AU/terms/eatyourdiscount_terms.pdf
OK That is an old Terms&Conditions — does anyone know the url for the latest terms?

        • +1

Well it gets complicated if they try to distinguish who is related to or acquainted with you for the purpose of restaurant purchases. As I said you could bring your whole tribe in for a feast if you are buying a big ticket item. And anyway Ikea's "loss" is capped to the dollar amount of goods purchased.

        • +1

I just got the email for this campaign. Fresh T&C.

          http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_AU/campaigns/campaign_EYD.html

      • +3

How about hold a sign near the entrance "I know we related somehow - let's eat to find out"

        • +3

Ah, you need a better pickup line than that! How about

"You're good looking and so am I - we must be related. Let's do lunch"

          :)

    • haha i like this

  • it's back :)

  • +1

I think this offer comes every now and then. Certainly not new.

  • Yeah lol, unless there's something extra in the terms and conditions it looks like Ikea's going to be giving away lots of free food.

    • +1

Yes they are, the ad even says "Second helping anyone?" This implies pig out and take as much food as you like, ikea restaurant becomes quasi-buffet. lol

  • +15

Should do it the other way around. Buy $50 worth of food storage containers, then take the receipt to get your $50 worth of food. Then put what you can't eat into the containers.

    :)

    • +1

Hahaha, nice idea and nice joke.

Unfortunately what happens is you have to take the restaurant receipt to the checkout and it's offset against your purchase.

      • +3

Get someone to mind the food while u go buy the containers and rush back up, problem solved.

    • Antman76 raises a good point, there is no reason why you have to consume the food on site … there are plenty of soft drinks etc which can be consumed at a later date, and indeed the desserts etc are often in plastic clam shells and can be taken home!

      • Ewww, a flat soft drink is even worse than a cold coffee. :)

Are you sure about the clam shells? Last time I was there, the cakes were on a platter and you used tongs to transfer to your plate. I suppose you could hide a ziplock bag under your shirt. :)

      • soft drinks are from a drink fountain.
You are able to get some bottled water (nothing special) and alcohol-free beer and cider in cans.

        • Sorry my bad! There are things in bottles, perhaps they are juice etc!

    • No take-away guys lol.

      From the previous offer T&C:

"The offer only applies for food and drinks consumed immediately in the
      restaurant."

Not that it's really going to stop ppl from smuggling food out lol.

      • What do u mean by no take-away?
I cannot keep the food that I left over into my own container bag?

  • The only trick with this one is that you MUST to remember to present your meal receipt at the checkout before the end of the transaction - no good remembering 2 seconds afterwards - they won't credit it.

  • +15

This could be taken from a humanitarian perspective too.

Hire a bus, take a whole busload of homeless people to IKEA.
Tell them to eat as much as they freakin' want.
    Buy furniture.
Take homeless people back to their.. er.. shelters?
    Win.

    • Genius!

If only you can shop first then get the meal afterwards. Then you can give your receipts to the Salvos / other charities. More practicable for all of us.

    • +2

Nah, leave them there. They can camp outside until someone takes pity on them and shouts them their next meal.

  • DAMN IT WA NEVER HAS THIS DEAL

  • Fantastic promo.

  • +1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP5ndHZfFUQ Enough said! (Lost in Ikea news parody for those sad sacks who don't like clicking on 'unknown' links)

  • Honestly this is one of the best recurring deals. Love the Salmon at Ikea - for free it's even better :)

  • lol at the people saying they have taken/are going to take left over food with them. god, can some of you get any more stingy?

    • +3

I honestly thought I was the tightest person in Australia until I read some of these comments lol.

      • +2

Guess you were wrong…so, so wrong lol.

        • +4

My suggestion was intended to be light-hearted.

Although this is ozbargain so I should have seen where it would end up. Geez if you could sell food on ebay there would be certain people on this forum all over this deal.

  • is it valid for SA ?

  • Wait wait im confused. So you have to pay for the food right?. then the item is free.

So technically, i can put it as yu get x amount of free food if yu buy a product worth x amount

    • +1

The latter: You pay for the food first and then you can take off that amount from your purchase, up to the amount of the purchase.

E.g. your lunch costs $10, and you buy a $30 lamp. You get the lamp for $20.

E.g. your lunch costs $10, and you buy a $5 frying pan. You get the frying pan free but you don't get $5.

      • ahhh thanks for that.

Do ikea have a menu (online)

        • I'm sure I've seen it, but I may be mistaken.

  • +1

VIC ppl, in Richmond store, when they did similar deal last time, how busy was the restaurant? Particularly during the weekend?

Do I have to eat my "free" food standing? LOL.

    • No different to any other day. Theres always a seat but the place gets dirty when there aren't enough staff to clean the tables and trays. Looks like a school canteen after a while.

    1. Which stores is this elegible
    2. Why can I not see it listed on their website
    • its in the link. go to page 2

  • Been to the last 2 ones… thought the first was a fluke… the servings kinda shrunk (esp the chips), seems that the servers behind the counter CBF to dish out proper portions.

  • did this last time it was on a couple of months ago. Was good!

  • I just realised that the usual suspects who are quick to cry foul regarding free deals have not. I'm referring to this thread: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/32908, where someone called the OP a liar, and a number of other people seconded that opinion.

Now consider the deal on this page. Isn't the free meal conditional on the customer purchasing items from Ikea to a sum greater than the meal? So in those people's minds, this deal isn't exactly FREE now, is it?

Come on! Where are your negs now? lol

In a way, I do agree that while it is FREE, it is not necessarily a FREEBIE, which I think carries more meaning than simply something you do not have to pay for. But that does not negate what I have said above.

    • Hey, you're right, I didn't notice this is tagged as freebies.
No, this is not a freebie. I'll get the mod to change it.

      Cheers.

  • hm, buy a kitchen set + host your 21th party for free

    • +3

yeah, do the whole hide and seek thing in ikea

      • +1

haha, oh yea, that would be fun

  • pre-xmas party? say its your shout, and then treat urself with some xmas presents

  • Awesome!

  • now I am confused. Looking at
    http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_AU/terms/eatyourdiscount_terms.pdf
I can see that the offer is valid from 14/12 to 18/12, but the topic title says it is from 1/11to 7/11.

    • That looks like last year's T&C. 14/12/2010 is not a Monday, but 14/12/2009 is.

  • IS this promotion valid in WA? I can't seem to find the store location for this offer

  • IKEA, always cool! : )

  • +1

    just called IKEA Adelaide.
there won't be any promotion for SA/WA (as usual).
    bad.
    voted positive anyway.

  • Not only the deal is good, many of the replies also deserve gold medals for creativity AND funny .
    Way to go, everyones

  • http://www.ikea.com/au/en/store/homebush/restaurant if you want to see the offerings, for the Homebush store at least, not sure if the other stores are different.

    • too bad they're not always available. :(

  • How come no one has complained that this deal isn't active yet? Confusing ;-)

Here's a direct link to the offer on the Richmond (VIC) store page http://www.ikea.com/au/en/store/richmond/activities

Here's a freebie offer on that page under "Spring Racing":
Visit our restaurant wearing a hat or a tie and we'll give you a complimentary pastry!
Restaurant offer only available October 29 - November 5.

    • Becuase this is not a group buy deal.
Because this does not requrie X amount of people to become active.
Because this will happen, no matter what.
That's all I can thing of at the moment, but I'm not sure if you're kidding cos of the wink.

  • Seriously I would not eat at Ikea if they paid me..

  • Why not shop first?

  • Can you buy whole Diem Pie's? or Deim, whatever they are. Based on the Dime chocolate bar we had here.

Also, can you use 2 receipts of food? What if you don't know how much you're going to eat, up front.

  • So does that means if I purchase something worth $999, I get to spend $999 on lunch? Is there a limit?

  • um, if there is some beer or wine on your food bill does this also go towards your discount?

    • Ikea sells alcoholic drinks?!

      • yep….they've got giant bottles of wine turned upside down and connected to a tap…and i'm pretty sure they might have some beer as well…

        • +2

good one drunky, drink your discount!

  • Alcohol at Ikea as well?

Invite all your friends and have a huge party.

  • I went there this afternoon.. worked a treat. I spent $50 on food and got an $85 book case for $35… I'm thinking about going back for another meal and getting some pillows or something!

I didnt see any alcohol.. I'm guessing thats just ACT or some other strange state with lax RSA..

    • Much of a crowd in the restaurant?

    • how do you spend $50 on food at the IKEA cafe?! please tell me your strategy…

      • You know those little bottles of wine that airlines service, well at 4.50 and 5 dollars a pop. You can easily get to 50 bucks.

(There was a young couple in front of me who are probably borderline alcoholics)

  • I went to Richmond IKEA (Vic) last night and used this, rocked up at 6 and there were like 2 people lining up. After I sat down and started eating there was massive inflow of people, they would have been waiting about 30 mins to get served.
