by now does anyone not have one of these?

    • Just got one this morning. paid at the beginning of last month

    • Got one a month or two back, works fine. I only stream music through it when I'm downstairs though.

Just joined the club didn't want to be left out ;)

    amplifier or repeater?

    increase coverage but decrease bandwidth?

    • +2

I didnt think there was such a thing as an wifi amplifier, surely its a repeater. How can it repeat in real time that simply doesnt make sense it must therefore be a repeater.

      • +2

I didnt think there was such a thing as an wifi amplifier,

Wifi amplifier do exist. However, this is a repeater.

    • +2

It's a repeater. Xiaomi just call it an amplifier.

    • +2

      amplifier or repeater?

      It's a half duplex repeater.

      • +1

everyone is repeating, I cannot fully duplex the situation…

  • +2

Oh no, the sequel is never as good as the original

    Didn't need it…
    Bought it…

and yes, I'm sure I have a few unused wifi repeaters lying around the house somewhere.
But, what the heck - a bit of retail therapy for me

  • Hah, this just showed up today from the last one!

  • Just need this for the new house! Thanks for the deal!

  • Has anyone else noticed their repeater making a reasonably loud high pitch whine? The one I have is loud enough that I can hear it a few meters away which definitely ruled it out for use in the bedroom.

I have another one sitting around, just wondering if it is a one of thing, or if the other one would be the same?

    • Is this for the Xiaomi version or just repeaters in general?

      • Xiaomi. Specifically the one in the OP.

    • +1

      loud high pitch whine?

Mains hum is common. It should come from the power pack.

      • Hmm I will have to check again, but I am 90% sure it is coming from the repeater itself. I have never had a problem with the power pack making noise before.

    • Run

  • +9

In case anyone is wondering, this can be used as a repeater for a phone's wifi hotspot, but you need a different phone with the mihome app to connect to it.

    So
Main phone + turn on wifi hotspot
2nd phone with mihome app connect to main phone hotspot, then run mihome.
Add the powered on amplifier and it will set up a second wireless network on the main phone

    • I don't suppose you happen to know if this will work for my situation? (Which is…)

      • I have an Optus mobile broadband SIM, which comes with free/unmetered iheart radio.
      • You're supposed to insert the SIM into your phone for that data to be unmetered, but it's in a pocket wifi instead.
      • And if I access iheart radio through the pocket wifi using my phone, the data is free/unmetered (it's not supposed to be, but it works)

At the moment I have to take my phone, and the pocket wifi, out to the garage, plug them both into power (so they don't go flat), then plug my phone audio output into an audio amplifier. Obviously this /\ will work, but does anyone know if the data will still be free/unmetered (so I can leave the pocket wifi in the house)?

  • Thanks, got one.

  • Can someone please explain if device increases wifi speeds or halves them? (I have an Optus router in a small apartment)
    This review reckons it's good.

    • +1

It operates at half duplex. You need a mimo if you want close to full speed.

    • AFAIK all repeaters halve the network speed but increase range/coverage. That's the point

    • +1

At 5 metres distance I get only 5-10% speed reduction. The signal is stronger than the original from the router. Vertical penetration through two concrete slabs with full signal which is amazing for the money you pay.

      • At 5 metres distance I get only 5-10% speed reduction.

how are you measuring this speed and where is the source data coming from?

  • It doesn't halve them or increase them. It just boosts the signal so you can get better service if you don't have full signal strength etc.

  • Enough already, have 6 already and not the need for one.

  • Got one
    Dont know why..
    Thanks TA.

  • Can the cn govt intercept or scan our connection from this device?

  • Why will it work only with Aus and NZ IP address? Could not see it written on website.

    • +4

Coupon ROUTA2 will only work with AU & NZ IP addresses. This is to stop all 750 units disappearing in no time to Russia/Europe/US etc.

      • Saw this on the post on ozbargain but could not cross check through gearbest website.

    • +2

he was referring to the coupon code

  • Hi OP

i tried to apply coupon code and everytime i hit apply code, it goes back to the log in apge, any reason or diea why? thanks..

    • +2

You have to be logged in to apply the code

  • Thanks OP ordered one. But was charged AUD 6.67

    • was the payment in AUD or USD, their AUD exchange rate is better. might need to contact the rep if you were charged the wrong amount.

      • Good point. It was actually in USD, payed through PayPal.
        Will check next time :)

  • It says "The Code you entered has expired". charging $11.27

    • Worked for me just a few mins ago. Did you click through via link in OP?

      • Yes I had. I think there was a temporary glitch. Logged out and back in fixed it. :)

  • +1

Cheers TA managed to grab one :)

  • +1

    thanks TA, another fine deal

  • +1

Not sure if I need it (probably not), but just ordered it since it was cheap.

  • i have one in the bedroom. they are good. definitely helps.

  • +1

    Got one finally. Thanks.

  • Give me an Australian IP address please

    • +1

FYI:The Discount Code won't work if you try to ship to an alternate destination other than Oz (even if ordering with an Australian IP). Was going to order one for an overseas friend as a pressie.

      • I want to order it to send to my address in Australia. I'm OS ATM. I tried VPN but didn't work. Must be Android or Google Chrome location ruining it for me

  • Anyone tried connecting them to themselves i.e. When setting up a second one, try connecting to the WiFi being Broadcast of the first. Join lots together to get a few miles down the road :-)

    • Join lots together to get a few miles down the road :-)

each repeater will half the speed. it only takes about four and you'll be back in 1999.

      • +2

Hmm, so 4 of these will get my neopets back?

  • Bought one from last deal. But can someone advise how we actually get this to 'talk' with our current modem/router. Surely we don't have to install an app onto a phone? The only sheet in the 'box' was all in Chinese.
If someone could point us in the right direction, would be most appreciatve. Thanks in advance.

    • @avanasat. Surely we don't have to install an app onto a phone?

Answer: Sad isn't it and the App isnt even compatible with my tablet! Had to use Samsung S3 phone. So yes you do need the app to configure/setup. Took me ages as well first time around.

  • While this is a handy device to have, don't unnecessarily use these unless you absolutely need them. It just adds more noise in the 2.4Ghz band which is not great.

  • Code doesn't seem to work for me. Expired?

  • +1

It wont repeat a Public (unpassworded) wifi.

I tried a situation where a city centre free un-passworded wifi is available at the window sill but not inside the property. Upon trying to connect, the MI repeater home software says that it does not connect to a Public wifi. It says to connect to your home wifi that has a password.

I am puzzled as to why this would be so. Any ideas?

    • +1

Security in mind I would think. Would you really want it to connect to a Public WiFi without a P/W (even if possible). It would mean that others (Public) could also connect to your Device without a Password and be part of your network. Not good.

There are a number of You Tube videos about setting this device up. For example, as a starter:

  • I figure it's about time I bought one of these :)

    • ffs, forgot Cashrewards again

  • code exipired

  • Ordered 3rd October and arrived today. Working perfectly.

    • Did you add any quicker shipping option or were you on the Unregistered Air Mail as recommended above?
I ordered on 4th October and mine hasn't arrived yet! I don't mind waiting but it was a purchase for my wife to use and she's not as patient as I am ;)

      • I used the free postage option of unregistered airmail. I was very surprised to receive it within 2 weeks.

        • Thanks for the reply! I was hoping to be surprised as well ;)
I guess I'll just make do with the usual mystery delivery timeframe.

  • just received mine, and it stopped working after like 3 hours - the light won't even turn on now when i plug it in. I tried resetting but won't work. Any ideas?
