$10? What happens to the $50 they offered for new customers in the past? I wonder whp will open an account just for $10

Didn't you read what the poster wrote? The $50 they offered customers in the past will be paid to them and $10 for customers in this promo.

If you're undecided between a few banks $10 is what it might take to swing a potential customer, seems a bit low but the marketers surely know what they're doing.

Who would open an account for $50 equally applies and most people open them with no incentive.

$10 is not much of an incentive …

    Stingiest offer ever.

If you are planning to save, may be better to forgo the $10 'bonus' and consider an account that pays better interest.

RAMS currently offers highest interest rate of 3% (if no wd's made, and $200 deposit made per month).

ME offers 2.95% and very flexible providing you do a tap and go each week using connected card.

Not sure if $10 covers the effort of reading the t&c's

I can say that opening an account with St. George is quite a hassle. First the online application, then the activation. Friend didn't have to go in to Bank of Melbourne for activation, I had to. Then realised my friend's card was setup incorrectly and he eventually had to go in as well.

Then here comes their security questions which are their attempt at AI. Bear in mind, these are not the pre-set questions you enter when you open your account. I've had questions like "How much do you usually deposit into this account"… I'm like mate.. I'm just at activation stage why are you asking me this? Was told they have to key in as we answer.. Then the next question gets better, they asked about BPAY and the merchants that I frequent etc. I haven't even got through the activation stage and they have these supposedly "security" questions to get by before talking to you. And if you fail…you need to go into the branch.

Even for the $50 it wasn't worth the hassle..

    • lol, I recently applied for a BankSA card (and I am quite sure they are part of the exact same area in Westpac Group).

The security questions were about how many other accounts I had ( 1, as this was the first). It's so stupid. The answers are so predictable anyway, because I would assume that for most people they would only have one account.

      • man… the questions that came to me..can't recall exactly but it was so dumb. They even asked the same random question in the bank. Lady at the other end saying she is only reading out what the system is spitting.

  • $10? Lol.

    $10 too stingy CBF

  • Lol

  • Had a similar thing happen when i opened a Westpac account (Westpac owns St G.)

Not worth it for a tenner…

  • hehe, $10 who would bother even for $20. $50 is the minimum I do for opening bank accounts.

$10 paid after 52 days, less $5/mo fee.

    Where's the bargain?
