Ozito Power X Change 18V 4.0ah Li-Ion Battery $39.89 (Was $75) @ Bunnings Warehouse

710

A big price drop on these batteries at the moment, handy for anyone who has the ecosystem, could even be good value just for the high drain cells at this price depending on what they are.

Looks like Bunnings has drop their prices to match Aldi's Deal

    • I had the thought, wonder if they are matching Aldi, didn't check though.

    • But not on the Pole Pruner.

  • +2

Pretty weird result - the 3Ah battery now costs 60% more than this!

  • +1

Dude I just bought 2 last week..

    • Are they used yet? Return and re-purchase?

      • +12

or Re-purchase and then return the new ones with the old receipt.

        • price guarantee…the ozbargain way…love it

        • @ialam99: Just so long as they do "change of mind" refunds

        • I bought e m with something else, is it still possible to do so?

        • @Hornpub: In a kit with a drill etc or in just in with other purchases on the one receipt.

  • Thanks Op. I have been waiting for this.

  • +1

any hack to allow this on my dewalt.. kinda looks the same.. same 18v :)

    • +6

People are 3d printing adapters to make different brands fit

    • +1

The Masters range of Stanley batteries almost fit 100% just had to cut a small bit of plastic and presto it fit.

      • Please share the method.

could even be good value just for the high drain cells at this price depending on what they are.

Curiosity got the better of me and this is what the cells are for anyone interested https://shenzhen.1688.com/offer/520710623626.html

    • Aldi claim they use Samsung cells which may be the better option if you're just after the cells.

      • Should be 12 2000maH cells in a 4aH. So at $3.33 per cell that's not bad value.

        • +2

I reckon it might be 10 cells for 18v (or are you referring to the Aldi?)

        • It's 10 cells so $4ea, which is still good if they are Samsung cells.

        • +2

@tryagain: Right you are - I just opened a 2aH Aldi pack and there were 5*2000maH Samsung cells.

        • @iratepirate: Do you know what Samsung cells they are? ie what numbers do they have on them?

        • If you're wanting to get them for the cells, 18650s have been cheaper on here before. (e.g. Link)

        • +1

          @tryagain: INR18650-20Q SDIE - so 15A max pull

        • @dust: The ones in the link are bigger capacity but 60-300% more per cell not cheaper.

        • @tryagain: Maybe I'm looking at it wrong but if there's 5 cells here wouldn't that make them $8 each? The ones I linked were two for $14 ($7 each).

        • +2

@dust: There are 10 x 2000mAh (5s2p) cells making them $4ea, hence them being pretty cheap for high(ish) drain brand name 18650's

        • @tryagain: Ah right. Thanks for the clarify!

      • Is it in writing and if so do you know where.
        edit
Just saw it in the catalogue pic from the link above, can't see what the * means though.

      • If you're just after cells get an Xiaomi 20,000mAh power bank or something. They have 6x LG 3350mAh @ 4.2V (14Wh) usually.

Requires international delivery but it's probably the cheapest (~$0.35/Wh).

        • +1

Those LG cells have a low 0.2C (650mA) discharge current.
The Samsung INR18650-20Q and INR18650-30Q mentioned above can sustain a 15A draw.

        • @m9:
Think you're comparing nominal to maximum. The Samsung specifications also say the same under nominal.

          Discharge: 0.2C, 2.0V discharge cut-off.

Max current of the LGs is 4875mA though - far from the 15Ah those Samsungs are rated for.

Also note the LGs can be charged a little faster (1.5Ah) if this matters for anyone.

        • +1

          @dyl:

          Comparing max discharge:

          LG INR18650 F1L = 1.5C (4.875A)
          Samsung INR18650-20Q = 7.5C (15A)
          Samsung INR18650-30Q = 5C (15A)

  • considering that ozito also have some brushless skins this is tempting.

    • +1

On paper the Ozito brushless ain't even as good as Ryobi brushless range

e.g. the Wrench only delivered 215Nm while Ryobi can deliver 270Nm

      • I did a 30m2 decking with Ozito battery drill and wrench, when the battery was empty, I just went for a coffee break, while the battery was charging.
Charging was fast, and battery lasts quite a bit, so I don't think I need another battery.

        • But charging hot is what causes all the damage to the cells.

Much better to have one cooling whilst another is charging and one is being used, or at least 2 if you need to keep drilling all day. Use one battery and throw it away in very short order, or buy 2+ to drill all day and use them for ages.

        • +4

@zerovelocity: Thanks, that's exactly that kind of "Reason" I needed to explain my wife, why I needed more batteries.

    • Apparently Power X range is rebadged Einhell which supply ALdi so give it a try, if it doesnt fit return them.

  • +8

Nearly bought 2 of these on the weekend. Don’t know why I didn’t, but glad I didn’t…

The newer series of Ozito tools has really picked up the quality. Have a driver, rattle gun and two drills, all from the brushless range, and they work just as well as any of the DeWalt stuff we have at work.

  • +1

I'm not the sort to pick up spare batteries but tempted at this price. Got their 18V discontinued fan as a rudimentary saw dust blowing tool, and their circular saw … except only one battery lol. And for the most part I'm open to more Ozito Poweer X tools as well (e.g. if I ever see their Impact driver going for cheap).

Just seeing the Aldi post now, I'm hoping to see some nice specials actually on tools, hopefully.

  • Bought the 36v mower a few years back. Hopefully they have that on half price as well.

  • Is Power X Change their new line or something? I have a cordless hammer drill from them and don't recognise that name…Wondering if it'll fit that drill?

    • Power X Change is their line of tools that are mostly sold as skins (without batteries) and batteries separately. I doubt that these batteries would fit Ozito tools from outside the range.

      • I got mine in a Package ( Drill, wrench and 2 batteries )

    • +1

Power X Change is the new products from Ozito's new owner Einhell. They brought Ozito for the Bunnings distribution rights. It's much better than the old stuff and comes with a 5 year replacement warranty. Apparently Einhell also produce Aldi's tools.

      http://www.einhell.com/com_en/power-x-change.html

      • Then I have been misinformed. I thought Bunnings owned Ozito.

      • I always thought there was only one Hell.

And to think, it was built using Power X change tools!

    • Thanks for the replies, guys!

  • I have the 2.0ah version and it's enough to weed trim and blow my whole (large yard) with plenty to spare. I am really surprised at the efficiency. Might pick one of these up though.

  • Does anyone know if the ozito power X change batteries are compatible with the aldi tool skins, and vice versa?

Since einhell make them both it would be awesome if they are exactly the same just with a different logo. I already have some ozito stuff but aldi have tools in their lineup which ozito don't have yet.

    • Def not.

    • There are already plenty of brands out there made by the same actual manufacturer like Ryobi and AEG where they deliberately don't have the same mounts to keep them all separate to try and make money from system locking.

      Def not.

      • so I cannot just buy the aldi batteries as an extra pack for the ozito ones I have?

        • +1

Next time you're at any hardware store just take a look at the basic form factors. The dimensions, slide gaps, etc. are deliberately incompatible. They want system locking not to mention no risks of dodgy warranty returns cos people mix brands.

But as mentioned above since the basic physics are the same people make adapters from 3D printers and the like. I've thought it about too as I have plenty spare AEG packs around.

        • @dufflover:

          thank you.
am not techie so I will have to buy the batteries from ozito.

        • +1

bunnings makita starter kit i got was the same for battery incompatibility ….. had an extra piece of plastic on the 1.3 amp battery, so only fitted that drill, if you bought other skins you needed their mainstream batteries. fix was grind piece of plastic off the batteries so it fitted all makita tools as per you tube.

seems it was done so bunnings had a makita 18v kit cheaper than other retailers and could avoid price matches and introduced people to makita ecosystem.

        • @dufflover: What about the physical metal contacts at different widths? I bought an Aldi Titanium series drill (2batteries) and angle grinder skin. Batteries don't match as plastic slides are different and the contacts 11mm wider on the drill.

        • @tunzafun001: haven't tried any modding myself, only that I took a quick look on the past to see which tools and batteries used what sort of contacts (e.g. 3rd or 4th contacts so better not try). Don't actually remember anymore what I found just that I wasn't bothered to go any further lol. I think Ryobi is definitely just +/- pins

  • Cheers OP, grabbed a spare pair for our mower.

  • You bought this to supplement the battery, in case anyone in the same boat looking for a line trimmer and blower

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-18v-cordles…

    • the trimmer handles couch grass fine but buffalo makes it work hard, only for small yards.

  • Bought 3 as I'm sure I'll need them eventually

  • tempted to buy from aldi, unless bunnings also put out a $30 ozito drill to start my collection?

  • Anyone seen these in stock in Perth Northern suburbs? None at Mindarie.

    • Pretty sure if you ask at a store they can look up stock for you

      • thanks. The thought crossed my mind but the dude in the tool shop when I checked looked like he was a few spanners short of a set, so I decided to save my energy. I'll drop in at Joondalup and if there's no stock there I'll see if they can look it up for me.

  • I use the ozito batteries for triton tools (masters closing down) you just got to file down the plastic. Works well but 3d printing would be ideal how do you get them?

  • +1

Bought the 115mm grinder and a start up kit, (charger and 1.5Ah Batt) so I could cut some roof sheets at the dump to put on top of my small car. After first charge the grinder would stop all the time so bought a dual pack of 3AH ones as the 4Ah were not on special in our store. Still the same! Asked the store tool guy but the expert was transferred to another department so got the grinder swapped out. Still the same!

Found them batteries need to be woken up with a few runs and then they perform perfect. ( I used skinny Makita branded cutting disk from the 12 pack tin)

On the upside found the line trimmer with an 2Ah Batt for 7 bucks at the dump shop. Now also bought the light and am happily running them in parallel with the Ryobi tools.

Anybody got feedback on the SDS hammer?

    • Does that Ozito grinder work acceptably now?

      • +1

all batteries when come off charge make it grind pretty well and even cuts en entire 800 wide colorbond in one go throwing sparks that penetrate a cheap garden glove. One got to be realistic. For what you pay it performs now above expectations.
Reason I bought this above the cheap model Ryobi is that it goes single handed.

    • +1

From memory, the grinder says for grinding only, not cutting. My guess is that you just got a bit better at not overloading it, I find if you cut slowly with the thin disks then it will cut but if you try to push it too much it trips out from being overloaded.

      • the Makita branded cutting blades disappoint more. Managed to shred two into pieces. Had thinner ones before but they not only cut quicker they also wear quicker.
Blade evolution seems to go on. They got diamond now made to cut steel but next I am going to do some porcelain tiling that will put it to the test.

      • This has been my experience.
