      • +9
        • thanks

ill wait till either the local seller lists it again or it dips below $300

i was in china and xiaomi had this for sale at 50% off the chinese RRP, making it around $260? i think. i tried to buy it but the page wouldnt load

        • @furythree: rrp is rmb1699. Half wpuld be AUD185.

        • @Jamesx: yeah it was ridiculously cheap like that

        • @furythree:

Saw your comment here, price for AU is back down to even cheaper now here :)

    Is this with Australian adaptor?

    • +7

Who doesnt have a spare figure 8 cable these days?

      • +1

Is it using the Figure 8 cable?!

        • +1

          Yes it is.

      • where from ?

i had to get 1 from ebay for $3 :(

        • You can get them at Officeworks

    • +1

I am going to say no, my experience from Shopmonk they dont include any adapters.

      • +1

I got an adapter - actually a local charger - with my recent iPhone purchase from them. I initially thought they hadn't sent one but found it hidden in the bubble wrap
I was about to throw away! But better off just getting a new cable to plug in the power supply/docking station if it doesn't come with one.

        • +1

Got 3 x Google homes, with no US to AUS adapter. not a big deal, i just mod'ed the stock cable.

        • +1

@spriggan43: By "mod'ed", you mean you used pliers to twist the US plug to fit the AU socket? ;)

        • +1

          @Zorlin: life hacks!

        • +2

          @spriggan43: Sometimes works sometimes doesn't.

It is not hard to argue any plug with bent pins is dangerous when you consider all the scenarios around who might unplug/plug it in future, and how they might do so, let alone accidents with fluids, people tripping over the wire, etc.

I've tried with many. Plugs made from soft rubber can be bent with the best success, The trouble is when the rubber gets old and brittle- cracks occur- or sometimes the bend in the pin is partially external to the plug, so it won't insert 100% in every socket. Or if you do achieve the 40 degree twist inside the plug casing, has an exposed part of the neutral become a tad close to an exposed part of the live in the process (internally)? Or can it, when the plug is pulled the wrong way (as the casing can bend a little under pressure too)

Au (same as many chinese) plugs are dangerous enough really. With the often reduced area around the pins on 2 pin US plugs, it is very easy to get a stray finger to touch a pin, let alone other things in the way when connecting, esp. in a dark and difficult space.

$3 saved, electrocuted at some random point after that. OK perhaps if it's just your own risk, but if you have other people in the house, perhaps think twice before hacking their lives (or whoever may use that cable years into the future).

All very well to tell people on OzB how to save, but not everyone can do this first time (or even subsequently) with any real safety- and some peeps have NFI about electrical safety so will do something dangerous if you just breathe at them about this stuff.

Just ask the fire-brigade or the police how often they've heard 'I didn't know it was an unapproved plug'. It's getting quite prevalent now because of how much is bought online. House fire/Dead person/etc. Same root cause as flammable building cladding, electrical cables made with insulation that falls off the wires in a matter of months, etc.

        • +2

@zerovelocity: Yes you are right, I will re-think telling people just bend it in the future.

  • +2

Bought one through a Shopmonk and came quickly, good experience. I haven't had to return it so can't offer anything in regards to experience with that. The mob with their pitchforks should be along soon though.

  • Any one see a deal on the newer model?

    • +1

I haven't even seen it on sale yet. But it should be noted.

THEY HAVE ANNOUNCED A NEW MODEL WITH MOPPING FUNCTION INCLUDED. you might expect this one to drop in price over the next few months as the new model becomes more available. This is still a great vac though and a good price.

      • whats the mopping function? as in wet mop?

        • Yeah just a basic wet mop. I think I read it picks up moisture from the air too to make the pad wet. Not sure if it cleans first then mops or it cleans and mops at the same time.

      • Right now it'd be useless for people with rugs since it would make them wet. The newer model can detect rugs and increase the suction power. Unfortunately, they didn't program it to turn the mop off if it detects the rugs but hopefully they fix that in an update

        • +8

the thought of this vac with an inbuilt mop is making me wet

        • +1

          @harro112: Hot.

        • @Diji1: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      • oooh, that might suit me as I have all floorboards. Mainly want the robot vaccuum to pick up dog hair but I ahve kids as well so mopping would be great. Any links to the new model?

        • same here, i was content in picking this up for around $300 but damn innovation making me consider an upgrade

now im gunna have a dillema of getting the more expensive newer one or a bargain older one

also crazy how these things have 5000mah batteries…my powerbank is bigger!

        • Its great for the dog hair.
Our dog lives outside and comes in occasionally, maybe an hour a day and we schedule the vacuum to run every monday and thursday, it does a great job cleaning the house and keeping the hair away

    • Don’t think it’s available on sale yet

  • Which app on ios? Tried searching for it but no luck - been told it's got english now, correct?

    • Mi Home I believe

    • +1

Search for “Xiaomi”, it’s a green app icon with a white logo. The title is in Chinese, but the app is in English.

      • Thank you.

  • +1

Bugger, I bought from them a couple of weeks back at $339. Either way still happy with the vacuum and Shopmonk had delivered this within a couple of days.

  • Thanks, been waiting for this to drop under $320. Don't know why, it just seemed like a good enough price to buy.

  • For any new buyers, set up the app in Chinese and you can select the voice in English. (google is your friend)
This will save you much headache setting it up with the English app.

  • Can I buy this and pick up in Singapore? if yes, what is the Singaporean address I can pick up from?

  • +4

Had mine a few months now, love it.

  • Amazing vacuum does carpet, floorboards with ease good price

  • Bought mine 1 month ago. That's amazing! My previous vacuum cleaner (still working but nearly retired) is totally dumb compared to Mi Robot.

  • edit. back in stock now

  • I initially set mine up with the Singapore server. Does anyone know how to change it to the US server?

  • Had mine for around 2 months now… From shop monk and the spinning brush has broken. I've sent an email requesting return label but haven't heard back from them yet. It's only been 2 days though. Machine is a beast though, cleans so well

    • You can buy replacement brushes cheaply and easily online. I wouldn’t consider that a fault worthy of a return. The brushes should be considered consumables

      • Sorry to be clear, the part that makes the brush spin is broken

    • It's a usable spare part. No need to send the unit back. For around $30 you can get 2 x air filters, a cleaning comb, 2 x spinning brushes and 1 x main brush. Good value. I've had my vac for around 4 month and it's superb. Highly recommend.

  • +2

Yesssssssssssssssss! Been waiting for it to get to this price for weeks after i missed the last eBay 20% deal and my mates bought it…. extreme FOMO!

  • +1

Great timing. Mrs has been hassling me for one.

  • +2

I like how you can rename it in the App. We named ours 'Lecras' (long story, but as a Fremantle Dockers supporting family, we name all our robots after West Coast eagles players, e.g. our robot pool cleaner is named 'Priddis'). Anyway, I will be at work, and all of a sudden I get a message telling me that 'Lecras has finished cleaning and has gone home to charge'. I love it!

    • +5

Named ours 'Dobby' so the kids know to pick their socks up off the floor otherwise Dobby will get them.

      http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Dobby

      • WTF. I also named my vac Dobby. What is the odds? :/

        • Pretty high I suspect. We have three - a Neato XV-21 (my wife gave it the name "Nerdo"), a Braava 380t (wet/dry mop - called "Nerdette"), and the newest addition to the family the Xiaomi. I was going to call them "Kill", "All", and "Humans" but decided on the more family friendly Dobby instead.

  • Is it the same price on your eBay store?

  • I have this feeling I'll buy it and come home one day to find a rock has caught in its wheels and it has scratched the crap out of my floor boards.

Does it go over metal separators between tiles and floor?

  • +2

Support from these guys is pretty bad, bought a Samsung earlier and contacted them for some issues with the handset and no response whatsoever.
You are pretty much on your own with these people if anything wrong with these items, good luck!

    • Thanks, you saved me a headache. I was going to buy another as a gift, but I'll wait for local sellers.

  • Re: brushes and filters
Is it better to buy Xiaomi branded parts and generic ones are just as good? what do they cost?

  • Mine decided to stop vacuuming my rug after about a week (just avoids it now) - anyone else had this issue?

    • Hahaha, pretty good/bad AI!

    • Mine did this with a high-pile rug.
I chucked the rug in the trash and bought the $60 low-pile rug from ikea, problem solved.

  • I love mine! Had it for a few months now, vacuums every day with no troubles. Only came home to one mistake due to it sucking up a stray sock.

    • +2

This is a feature though. Mine did the same thing a couple of times. I thought I'd lost those socks but they were under my bed.

      • +1

It must be programmed to celebrate the find by clocking off early!

  • How are these on carpet for dog hair? i have a samsung powerbot which has died 3x now so looking for a replacement but cant find much on it for carpet and dog hair.

    • +1

I've got a long-haired white chihuahua that malts like no tomorrow for such a small dog. Got the Xiaomi vac a few weeks ago and schedule it to run at 4pm daily and my dark carpet/rugs usually only have a few single hairs left after its finished.

The bin is ~half full of hair each day, but I've sometimes gone 3-4 days before emptying and its still done a pretty good job.

      • cheers my samsung powerbot was a beast but not going to replace it now with the same after 2yrs due to wheel motor issues… so guess this is an option. i have a long haired german shepherd who malts as if i had just shaved her.. so guess it will be a good test haha

  • Just checked the site, is this sale expired already? Price is back to 339 now? Anyone knows if there is a deal for this robot vacuum anywhere?

    • Damn. Confirmed that price has gone up……spent too long thinking about it :P

  • Expired already?
Is there a deal on the new model Mi Robot Vacuum?

  • $318 at GeekBuying for the HK version - what's the difference between them?

    https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Mi-Robot-Vacuum-Clean…

    • Currency. Set to AUD instead of USD.

  • Anyone had a status other than "processing" yet?

    • Mine's the same

    • 'Delivery between 21 to 30 days'

      • I am aware of that, thanks.

        • Mines the same, does the delivery 21-30 days include processing time?

        • @treeman:

Anyone going to cancel their order since they dont reply to emails and just buy one from gearbite?

        • @basicerno: how do you cancel an order if they won’t reply to you? PayPal claim?

        • @S3ISOR:

Would like to know too, but probably don't have a lot of time…

        • @treeman:

Yeah i couldn't see any way to cancel the order on their webpage too, from this experience it will probably be my last with them.

You could send them an email and say you want to cancel the order and open a paypal dispute?

problem is how long before you can get a refund etc.

        • @basicerno: Yeah that’s what I’m tempted to do, but then it’s going to be a while (3-4 weeks) before the money comes back. If I don’t ge get a reply today I will to that.

        • @S3ISOR:

I don't think the money has come out of my account.
Paypal has just put a hold on the funds…I don't think they've received anything…am I right?

        • @treeman:

Oops correction money has come out of my account.

I think I'm just going to hold firm.

        • @treeman:

Yeah mine came out straight away

Yeah i am a bit worried about their dodgy terms and conditions.

Return(s) and exchange will always remain at the sole discretion of Longman Capital Pte Ltd. and the company reserves the right to decide the same and as explained in the refund policy.

Shopmonk constantly strives to provide products with the highest standards of quality to its customers. In-case you notice a manufacturing defect in the product delivered, please write to [email protected] within 24 hours of receiving the product.
Products no longer required cannot be returned to Shopmonk.
Once an exchange request is placed, acceptance of the request shall remain at the sole discretion of Longman Capital Pte Ltd. A courier pickup will be arranged and assigned to the customer along with an airway bill number.

          Cancellation Policy

Owing to the diverse range of products being a part of the shopmonk website, we’ve provided a category-wise breakup below to ensure absolute transparency and clarity regarding our policy:

          Electronics (phones, speakers, laptops, etc.)

For cancellation of the order, a nominal 5% re-stocking fee of the cancelled product value will be charged.

Longman Capital Pte Ltd (shopmonk Australia) is not liable to pay any interest in-case of any refund(s) for any reasons whatsoever.

Once a refund is approved, if eligible the time to process the refund shall be 7-14 working days in order to the same and is subject to the terms and conditions.

Acceptance of all order cancellation(s) will be at the sole discretion of Longman Capital Pte Ltd.

        • @basicerno: Bugger, I didn’t see that. Well I’ve emailed a cancellation request, so I will see what happens.

        • @S3ISOR:

I'd say you may be okay as paypal might not accept that 5% thing.

I think others have cancelled orders and still done OK.

Kind of annoying though they have put the price down to $317.99 - I don't care about the $1.01 but then ours still haven't been sent.

        • @treeman:

I opened a Paypal dispute as they are not responding and not updating for over a week.

i checked my order and now it says

          XIAOMI ROBOT VACUUM (WHITE)
          AU $319.00
          1 Item(s)
          PayPal Reversed

        • @basicerno: Well that updated quickly once you’ve logged a claim. How long does it take for a claim to process?

I finally received an email from shopmonk which said that they have requested my order be cancelled (I’m not sure who they requested it to?), and I will receive a paypal refund with 24-48 hours if my order hasn’t already shipped. So now I wait to see if they actually cancel it in the next day or two. I am half thinking they will just ship it. Anyway, if they haven’t cancelled and refunded within the next two days I will also do the PayPal claim. It’s a shame they don’t have a better communication system. A live chat or more prompt email response would solve most of these problems.
