I know most OzBargainers use points to book business class

I think most OzBargainers just don't book business class.

  • I never knew there was domestic business class. I always thought that was for international flights, and for domestic it was either economy or first.

In the US they call it First but in most of the rest of the world it's Business. Offerings are pretty similar whatever it's called though.

      • I flew American Airlines "First Class" Chicago to New Orleans on a Embraer jet and it was somewhere between Economy and Premium Economy. Bigger, more comfortable seats, but still no screen to watch anything on or power points, etc. Quite disappointing but then it was only about $300 from memory.

yeah the US domestic business/first class is pretty average most of the time, but the bonus is that it's cheap, and you get business/first class points/status credits for it. excellent if you need a haul of points to keep your status up!

        • @jaybo:

Yep that was the main reason I did it. Got 60 SC's with Qantas for it I think, possibly even 90.

          @GregRust:
my wife and i did did CVG-ATL-CUN-LAX in Delta "first" for about ~40% more than what economy was going to cost, and got 360 status credits for the trouble which nudged me into platinum.

was also one of the only times i've ever had the joy of being stuck on the tarmac for 2 hours before the flight could depart from ATL, being in first class though meant we got to drink beer while we waited. best money i ever spent :D

  • Anyone able to get any sample pricing on this discount?

    • Example booking for Melb -> Syd
One way from $722 to $512

Lol. For a seat near the front and a bit more space for an hour of your life. That's crazy even with 30% off.

Gave you a + for sharing the love but mostly for the use of "dollarydoos".

  • Don't forget to check all the misleading taxes and airline surcharges they charge on top of the plane ticket.

To be fair, Virgin domestic business is only really worthwhile, if you get The Business (selected flights from Syd to Perth (4+ hours), maybe Mel and Brisbane too?) and even then, The Business is 10x the price of economy especially with the other domestic discount code floating around so it still works out to be 7x the price.
Best use would be if you could get this on an overnight Perth flight for the lie flat bed or if you needed just a few more status points to reach Gold/Platinum status or to be able to gift a free Gold status

    • Can be useful if you need to carry a lot of luggage.

I may book this for the 2x32kg suitcases rather than 2x23kg. Likely work out easier than freighting the gear up and back, and a lot less hassle, and safer.

    • There are no "The Business" cabins on business class from MEL-ADL … have I been unlucky in ~10 trips, or do they not exist for that route???

      • it's only on routes flying A330 and B773. Unfortunately not even on all of the Perth flights now :(

      • I saw some on AFL grand final weekend

What does 30% off mean on a commodity (airline tix) that has a constantly varying price? When there is no such thing as a normal price, what is the 30% taken off from?

  • -3

i don't understand why you would bother with business class on domestic…

its the same seats and the only difference is priority checkin and a class of wine etc

the domestic business lounge is so shit and dirty, it's pointless.

    • +1

If work is paying, you would gladly take business over economy wouldn't you?

      • -1

        If work is paying

It wouldn’t matter if it’s discounted or not

        • +2

Work might pay for "a ticket" and not "any price for a business class ticket". i.e. you can claim up to $350 for a ticket. Without this deal, you would only be able to get an economy ticket within your travel allowance. With this deal, you can now fly business.

So if someone else is paying, you choose business? Why? You said it's pointless, the lounge is shit and dirty, and the only difference is priority check-in and a glass of wine.

Clearly there is a difference, you just don't think it's worth your money. Different people are different - many people happily pay the premium for a Galaxy S8 over a OnePlus 5 even though they're similar in spec. Perhaps those people value a good camera and screen more than others and are willing to pay for it - just like how some people are willing to pay extra for priority check-in, a quieter waiting area with food and sufficient seats, not having to queue, getting off the plane first, and (usually) getting your luggage off the carousel first.

Virgin Australia - 30% off Domestic Business

    There's a joke here somewhere.

The old days of Virgin Blue and political incorrectness with Branson's blonde babes seem to be gone none. Frumpy frowny disengaged staff seem to be more the norm now.
