Guys, just wait a bit longer, 4K is now just coming out of Beta testing after 5 years. 1 more year, HDR, 120Hz OLED, the works.

Similar to the recent LG 27" 27UD58 UHD IPS Monitor $399.20 C&C @ Bing Lee eBay

This uses a VA panel so expect ghosting issues whilst gaming, and should not be purchased for such use. Perfectly OK for productivity use.

    • shouldn't freesync help with that?

      • +8

Freesync helps screen tearing and vsync issues iirc.
Ghosting is a nature of vn panels, not something freesync can fix.

    • It may also show shifting colour on screen if it's anything at all similar to the Philips model which uses the same screen panel. I bought one of those and got a refund, colours shifted by moving your head in the slightest amount. Now I have two 4k 27" LG monitors instead.

      Incorrect.

  • No hdr :(

Just sold my 4k monitor…… considering you can pickup a 55" 4k tv with hdr that is great for gaming for $500….. its a bit sad all the hdr monitors are sky high on price.

    • Indeed. We should be seeing offerings of high refresh rate UHD 3D HDR OLED monitors. When are they coming?

        3D is dead

        • OLED monitors the ones i played with in the last few months look great at consumer shows but apparantly have burn in issues (thought that died out with plasma) and yes 3d, dead.

      • there are now some HDR at the 900-1000 mark but its a bit wierd with the specifications.

I've seen two hdr monitors so far, the LG one is garbage, the other two were a samsung and (forget the other brand), due to specifications, both were HDR, but xbox and ps4 use different credentials, so one would work with hdr on ps4 and vice versa

    • Link?

    • Mate this is exactly what I'm hunting, where should I be looking for a $500 55" 4K?

I purchased a hisense KUsomething (think its 9000) for $599 from jb hifi, they had it on special for $699 back in jan, talked the guy down to 500.

I've now seen quite afew of these on gumtree for that number and a few on fb swap groups as they're getting people thinking they are cheap… however check several hisense models as some of them can be modified (or even have from the get go without advertising it) HDR.

Mine didnt advertise it and I was told on here that I could put EU firmware on it and get HDR, I did that and couldt get local programming guides, then in march the AU firmware update came on with a hdr update, xbox 1 and ps4 pro both pick it up so no comparability issues.

        • Cheers, very enlightening.

I would try and find out the freesync range, I have been looking into monitors. There are some monitors limited to less than 144hz when running freesync. Dropping in and out of freesync hz range is a pita for gaming, and if the range is low (like less than 90hz) then you might be best getting a different monitor if you have an AMD setup.
edit: i'm a muppet, it is a 60hz monitor so if you have a decent rig your fps should sit at rock solid 60fps/60hz with freesync making it sweet and smooth

    • Good point! But also bear in mind that there are ways around this for certain monitors.

I wasn't going to get the Asus MG279Q (144hz) because its freesync range was limited to 90hz, but then I saw that 3rd party drivers were available to allow freesync at 144hz. Got it a couple of weeks ago and have been freesyncing at 144hz with no problems.

      • Holy shit, same monitor as I got dude :)
Its an advance buy for me, cos I found the same drivers (or CRU) but current setup only goes 70-80fps on 2540, but tried on lower res and it is happy at 120+fps/hz with freesync running. My monitors outlast my computers, so when I can afford a rig running 2540 @ 144fps then it will still work a treat.

Still a potato at pubg, but no longer the biggest potato every round :P

Can't pm you sloppyjoe, wanted to ask you about which drivers you used?

Is it really worth the risk buying such a large monitor from overseas? If you have any issues like stuck pixels or problems with the panel, the cost of posting back would be a bummer

    • I bought a monitor a few weeks ago, had issues that neither I nor the shop could rectify, so swapped for new on the spot. Although it apparently has a lot return rate I would definitely take this into account for buying a monitor

Is the deal over? Link just takes to ebay and don't see it. edit: just when i posted started working
