they can also be used with apple homekit/siri via hombridge integration. its a bit fiddly but works well when set up.

    • Hi, please provide more details does it need to be jail broken?

  • Cheers had been on the fence with these… Price makes it a no brainer

  • +7

I knew there was a reason I was up so late. It was to buy things that I didn't know I didn't want.

  • Can you use two of these e.g. one in the bedroom & one in the lounge room, to control all the IR devices in the two rooms? Or does the app not support using more than one controller?

    • Yes, I have two of these working with homebridge and Siri to control the air cons.

The default app they provide is also pretty good, but no Siri.

      • When you say to control the air con with siri, can you explain a little more? Are you using home assistant? Can you do things like:
        - Turn the temp up and down?
        - Set up rules based (if you're using home assistant) turning on at x temp and off at y temp?

        Thanks :)

        • +1

I'm using HomeBridge and the homebridge-broadlink-rm module. I don't use HomeAssistant but I believe it does basically the same thing.

Yes, can turn temperature up and down. Using either the Home app or the Siri voice control.

Yes, can create rules - I have several HomeKit temperature sensors and created rules to turn on/off the AC at trigger points.

Can even control it from the Apple TV (using Siri) and remotely out of the house. Actually works great with any Homekit app. I'm using the Elgato Eve app because I prefer it to Apple's Home app.

The Broadlink app was painless - just point the AC remote at the bean, it figured out I had a Daikin and within a minute it was controlling the AC. The Broadlink app is pretty good but doesn't support Homekit or Siri.

Homebridge was more painful. Had to install homebridge, then install the module, then figure out their stupid config.json file, and then had to learn every temperature as separate IR blasts. But once it was setup works super reliably, and of course now works with Homekit and Siri.

        • @nhand42: thanks for that :)

I was up this late to find that 3.5m Android Endoscope to clear a blocked drainage in dish washing machine from this deal,
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/335138,

Somehow stumble on this deal, looks like it's not going to pair the Endoscope well, but who cares, bought it first, sort out later.

BTW, that Endoscope deal is back on and even cheaper. If you like to clear/see inside of some hard to reach pipelines, way to go.

  • errm ??? in AUD price increased from $17 increased to $24 when I applied the coupon

    • Just look at the bottom price, not at the price near the item. For me, it says Fixed Coupon $6.99, which converts to $9.12.

      • yeah says "Your subtotal: AU$24.25"

        • See if the copy paste is correct. Just got one now for $9.12. Check that you logged in etc…

Anyone else get refunded all the time from gearbest with the support ticket reason being pay pal or issuing bank unverified transaction? Then asked to use western union.

    • More added

      • Cheers for the heads up, @GearBest hasn't resolved my issues with them just refunding everything I purchase so not much point trying to buy yet :(

        • Hi johneliot1978,

As confirmed, the system automatically detects unauthorized orders, in order to protect the interests of customers, we automatically refund the money. you are now allowed to place orders, but you also need to authority your worldpay account to make it believe you are the owner of it in case it will be considered as unauthorized orders again.

Regarding to the refund, since you pay via worldpay,it will take 7-14 business day to back to your account, you can contact worldpay for following up since we have already refund the money to them.

          Thank you!

          Sunny

        • @gearbest:

          Great! ;) how!? 0_o
Out of 5 support requests and dozens of messages for each, I cannot get support to confirm what they need from me or what looks odd about my account? They just keep copy pasting the western union blurb over and over and over. Wanna get things fixed up, and have tried feeding back your comments to them, but without any success.

  • Any suggestions for controlling RF type remote?

    • Broadlink RM Pro. The bigger brother of this one

      • Thanks

      • Would love a deal on that…

  • Would this control a TV with home assistant or would it also need something like a harmony control?

      • +3

Can anyone explain to me what this webpage actually means? I've looked at it a couple times and it's just a bunch of code to me

        • +1

That's because HomeAssistant is built with YAML (which is quite an unforgiving 'language').

Once HomeAssistant has been installed/configured, and the Broadlink setup as a component you then need to provide the IR commands for your devices.
They've provided some examples to turn on / off LG, Philips etc TV's.

          https://smarthomehobby.wordpress.com/step-by-step-guide/

Worked for me although learning curve is pretty steep

        • @haytona:

I'm trying to get this working through hassbian but the Broadlink platform doesn't seem to be loaded correctly. I've put my code in the config but when I toggle it, the RM pro doesn't light up at all

        • @haytona: Thanks for the link - that's very helpful.

I already have an RM Pro and a Google Home is on its way. Would you suggest Home Assistant or IFTTT for making these two work together?

        • @noone: are you able to learn a command as per https://smarthomehobby.wordpress.com/2017/09/10/teach-the-br… ? If so then it can talk to the RM pro. If not then double check the IP and MAC address, I guess the mac is an attempt to make it more secure? I have mine a static IP from router.

        • @klaw81: depends on your technical know how and privacy concerns. I haven't tried IFTTT however have read there is a delay. With home assistant it can be all done on your LAN, I was going to block the broadlink from internet once configured so it only takes commands from ha. I'm a programmer and have found the learning curve pretty steep though.

I may decide to buy harmony home companion instead so it can keep the state and make it friendlier for the family

Good deal!! Get us another 100 uses!

    • Yes pls OP

Anyone able to get this working with the xiaomi gateway?

  • Sigh… missed out…

    • Available again :)

  • +3

Stick these in your workplace and mess with the heatpumps. AC in winter and heat in summer.

  • Bummer - need a couple more of these.

  • +4

Ugh the one time I decided to go to bed early. Been looking for a deal on these for months haha. Great price

    • +1

      More added

      • Legend, thank you!!!!

  • Using this, is there anyway for a 'dumb' AC to inform you that you have indeed turned the AC on?
    Without confirmation kinda bugs me..

    • Short answer: no.
Longer answer: couple with a smart socket and check current draw.

The ihc app will keep state so if you only use they it should be okay.

    • I have a smart meter owith my solar panel set up which allows me to monitor usage. When usage is the highest I know the air con is on. So I can easily tell that way. You could also monitor house temps with a device such as a Xiaomi temp sensor to see if it's been turn on.

  • +5

Bump! New code, another 100 added :)

    • Hi, is there a possibility of a code that would also work outside of AU/NZ? Thank you.

      • Nope sorry

        • Ok. Thanks anyways.

    • Got one with new code, going to link it with Google Home Mini (from woolworths) to also make my AC smart! Thanks.

Mind posting which 'guides from interwebz' you are using to link the two?

  • +1

Just saw this. Thank OP! Fingers crossed it works with my TV, etc when my Google Home Mini comes in ;-)

  • This could be a great universal remote control if it also had Bluetooth!

  • the code doesn't work?
    I put in the code
it says FIXED PRICE Coupon: $6.99
    but the subtotal doesn't change

  • I'm still getting code expired

    • Yeah I wish I could get one. Everytime I saw that more was added I still missed out. Any chance for more @Spackbace?
