Varta Alkaline Batteries - AA 30 Pack $4.94, AAA 24 Pack $4.94 @ Bunnings

2120

Hey folks the Varta AA Alkaline 30 pack are currently half price.

Good deal if you missed out on the Aldi deal.

I would expect these to perform better seeing as they are alkaline cells. The Aldi cells are only Zinc Carbon i think. More MAH from these and can handle higher currents.

Review of similiar batteries here.

The Varta AAA are also on sale half price 24 batteries for $4.94

Damn I literally just bought this two days ago!

    Need therapy now!

Buy and return new packs with old receipt.

      • +1

Wonder if i can return my Aldi batteries id rather these.

I also wonder what chemistry is more stable for long term storage?

        • Doesn't Aldi have a 30 day return policy?

        • +1

As long as they are unused and in saleable condition I don't see why not?

        • +4

          @sween64:60 days

        • +1

I prefer the zinc carbon batteries because they don't leak. It works better in things that don't use a lot of energy like remotes or clocks.

I use Eneloops for controllers and things anyway so I don't buy alkaline batteries.

        • @m9:
Might be fine, even if used and not saleable. If your not happy with the quality of the aldi batteries.

I believe the term is professionals

      • Unfortunately I already tore apart it and pulled it apart and put the batrteries in a container

Not a big deal. Might pick up some more!!!

        • +2

That's why you buy a new one and return that one on your old receipt, not the other way around.

Step 1: Have receipt for full priced item, your item in pieces
Step 2: Go into bunnings, buy the new packet, walk out with new product, new receipt
Step 3: On same trip, walk back in with new packet, old receipt and ask for a refund
          Step 4: Save 50%

        • @MorriJ:

          Good idea!!!

          Haha thanks

          Off to bunnings today

  • need some AAA's

These batteries are great for kids toys. They last the distance and I haven't had any leak yet.

    • +34

These batteries are great for adult's toys. They last the distance and I haven't had any leak yet…

      • Hmmmm…..!

      • +3

I thought the idea of adult toys was to create a leak???

        • +1

          You are very confused.

        • ….Name checks out lol

        • @theguyrules:

          Name also checks out lol

        • @dyl: I get that alot lol

      • +2

These batteries are great for adult toys.

They last the distance and I've had heaps of leaks.

      • I have had them leak. Try to take them out of your… high value toys before they're dead flat. Haven't had an Energizer Powerseal leak yet, maybe they will.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alkaline_battery#Leaks

They're much better than a lot of other cheap alkalines, if you're short on eneloops. Skip them if you see any furry ones in the shop, though some people like that sort of thing.

  • Bought it yesterday at full price band discarded the receipt.

    • +2

It's probably a pricing error to begin with. 30pk of Varta AA alkaline batteries for $4.94 seems way too good to be true.

    • Paid full price and discarded the receipt? All I can say is…

  • +2

Made in Germany but their website says these ones are for lower power consumption devices like remote control/ For toys, one level up (Hi energy Series).

    http://www.vartaconsumer.com.au/en-au/products/batteries

  • Mate, do you know how much slack you're going to cop from a forum that loves eneloops?

    • +5

Lol i have so many rechargeable batteries also but i use throw away cells in certain things.

      My weather stations
      Torches i give to people
      Kids toys
My fishing radio plus my shed radio
      Clocks

Basically any thing that is outside constantly

      • This guy preps.

  • +1

I do wonder if this is a pricing error. It seems too good to be true. It's probably meant to be the 10 pack price or some thing.

    • +1

Really? They are usually $10. It's not that hard to believe.

      • Oh. I thought 30 AA Alkalines would cost a bit more than $10. In comparison Duracell AA 10pk alkalines are usually about $10.

        • yep even at normal price ($10) these are still great value.

  • +3

I use these batteries heaps - mostly in Xbox controllers and remotes; they seem to last ages. Apparently a reputable German battery.
Usually a good buy at $10, Great buy at half price! I'll be picking more up, thanks op

  • Aldi batteries are also alkaline and are well regarded. This is a better deal though.

  • +1

Ha, I just got that. Alkaline batteries use an alkaline substance as an electrolyte, in opposition to more common batteries like lead acid with have an acidic electrolyte. Funny the things you miss when you're not looking at them

  • Thanks, need some aaa batteries.

  • I dont know about the alkalai Non Leak part, if I want to use a cell that I know wont leak, I use Nickel Metal Hydride.

  • Think of the environment, buy Eneloop.

    • No worries. Duraloops. Made in Japan. Others would say, oh but that's $15 more i'm not buying that.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/duracell-rechargeable-aa-batteri…

      • how exactly do they guarantee it will last 5 years? what happens if I put it into a toy helicopter or some other high consumption toy?

        • 5 years under normal conditions!.

        • +1

5 years is shelf storage. Naturally if you use them they will be consumed in a shorter time.

  • +1

These are the best bang for buck available IMO

    Made in Germany too

    A bargain at this price

  • OP's user name checks out

  • +1

I use these in wireless microphones at gigs, when I don't have access to reliable rechargeables.

Cheap enough to replace the bands wireless belt packs before a gig and not have to worry about flat batteries (I keep the half used ones for practices & extended sound checks)

  • Can you use these to charge Eneloops?

    • +1

      If you are loopy enough…

  • I mentioned these in another post has anyone been to buy any yet? as i was thinking it maybe price error and if i go there now it be a wasted journey as it was an error.
I been putting off buying more for months but if they are right price then good time to grab some.

    • I literally just got back from my local bunnings and confirm the price is correct. They even had sharpied the price on special banners.

      • What is the expiry date on your pack?

        • +1

          Dec 2027. Solid 10 years

        • @Prince K: Where can I find this? I couldn't see the date on the pack.

        • @solpiry: it’s on the actual battery, not the pack.

    • Can confirm, just bought two packs myself. The listed price was $10, but when I went to the cashier it automatically showed as $4.94

  • How long do these batteries last?

If they will still be ok in 20 years I might stock up on them otherwise I think I am good for another 5 years if not more haha lol.

    • +1

      Ok Dick Smith

      • More like extreme laziness.. I like to stock up.

  • i only ever buy these Varta batteries after DORCY stopped selling theirs at BigW 8 years ago..

Varta are thee Greatest Zap for buck and at half price i'll be there at 7am buying 8x packs!

  • Just been to my local the had none on shelf of aa so asked if any and guy said had another box, they sold heaps today.
Not sure if that was the last box of aa thought.
I got two packs of as and two packs of aaa.
Been buying these for a few years now but not recently so i just had to grab these at that price.

  • Great price, but I've had Varta AA and AAA batteries leak in the past. YMMV
I won't be letting Varta destroy any more toys and remotes in my house.

Anyway, you guys should already be stocked to the brim with Eneloops…

  • +2

    This is Varta!!

  • +1

I bought some for my boy. there's price tag showing $4.94 in Melville WA.
Many stock left for AAA but a few left for AA. hope they restock for other people.

  • Thanks OP.

  • The Varta alkaline will do the job alright but in the couple of occasions where the batteries were in a device for extended period of time, 2-3 years, they have leaked.

  • was about to post this deal after walking out of a bunnings. then saw someone beat me to it by 50 mins lol. i immediately went back in and bought the aaa and 2 more aa's.

  • Best rechargable AA's I've had. Don't know about their single use batteries.

  • about 10+ of AAA at villawood nsw left, took the last of AA (at least floor stock) at time of posting

  • Does anyone know when this offer finishes?

    • Isn't that the annoying thing about Bunnings, you just never know as they don't have catalogue sales. Or I would be happy if someone can tell me otherwise.

    • if it was to much a aldi deal (not sure if it was)

will probably be back up to full price thursday morning.

    • I was told by staff at self checkout that its only for couple of days and promotion should be finish by tomorrow. Best to check with local store (stock and end date) I believe, my store had only few left.

  • I put 8 of these in my rc transmitter. I have drained them fast then I was expecting. am I supposed to remove the batteries as soon as I finished using the Tx or what!

  • I have been using these for several years. A small number had leaked (about a dozen out of over 300) and one battery had no charge (0V) out of the package. For toys (adult or not) that can use NiMH batteries and high current/fast drain applications, better to use Eneloops, the OZ Bargain currency.

    • Even the best alkaline struggle at 3amp current draw you get maybe 800ma @ 3amp draw. Standard AA NiMH should be able to handle 10amps fairly easily especially if its an Eneloop. Whilst a standard Eneloop NiMH 1900mah min. Should give around 1800mah @3amp current draw.

  • +1

3 packs bought at Cessnock NSW; plenty left.

  • +1

There are tons at Bonnyrigg, NSW just bought some today. There are price tags saying $9.88 but when scanned it's $4.94.

  • +1

got 6 from Rydalmere Bunnings. Plenty Left *Visual check around 40 packs

  • +2

Went down to Bunnings today and they had these listed at the normal price ~$10 each but at the checkout they were $4.94 each.

    • +1

Same experience at Castle Hill Bunnings

  • Over a 200-300 at Browns Plains Bunnings..
Bought 20 packets. Go through heaps with baby toys

    • jesus that's 600 batteries. I feel bad for the environment :-(

  • Heaps of AA and AAA packets on the Shelf at Bunnings Frankston just now. Ticketed at $4.94.

  • +1

Got some of each today, thanks OP!

There were no price tags so the normal price was displayed but they scanned at the correct price.

    • Same at Bunnings on Gardeners Rd, Mascot NSW.

Only one packet of AAAs left and it's open.

  • Best before 12/2025.

  • +1

    expired now

  • Thanks OP was at Bunnings for something else but walked pass batteries and had to grab a pack of AA batteries.

  • Bought 4 packs on special yesterday.
These things never get reduced. They haven't budged in 2 years (since I started tracking them anyway).
Suspect a pricing error, unless Bunnings is clearing them out.

Absolute bargain for anyone who jumped on it.

  • Missed out :(. Anyone have a couple to spare? I'm in Ferntree Gully, VIC
