Optus iPhone 8 Plus - Receive 256GB Memory for 64GB Model Price on Postpaid Plans (from $70/Month for 24 Months)

120

Optus has a 40GB postpaid plan available for $102/month whereas the iPhone 7 Plus in selling on the same site on a 30GB plan for $115/month. Seems like a deal. My current plan expires a few days after the cut-off date so just waiting to see if they'll come to the party.

  • Actually I just noticed the 40GB is a lease plan only, so the 'own a phone' plan is a 30GB offer for $112/month. My bad, but still slightly cheaper than iPhone 7 Plus.

    • Yes. On the lease only you don't own the phone even after the contract has ended. You have to hand it back if you cancel the account. Unlike the own a phone option where you get to keep the phone after the contract is over. The own a phone option may be a better deal in the end. But hey who's even going to use 30GB/month on a phone let alone 40GB?.

      • Interesting question. My current shared allowance is 30GB because we went over the previous iPhone's 10GB data allowance. I'm already more than half way through the 30GB, due to unusual circumstances such as moving house, no fixed connection yet and overseas guests using my hotspot.

        • +1

yeah but that's a pretty specific and unlikely set of circumstances condensed into one.
How often will people be moving houses and have no internet connection/ need to share with overseas guests?

Probably 1 of the months out of the 24.. so for the average person.. 40 gb is probably overkill

        • I agree, and I am viewing this deal as a solution to my specific circumstances. Due to iPhone data usage, I have gone over the halfway point on my 30GB several months this year, so after getting some bill shock I'm now in the habit of monitoring usage more closely. Taking this plan would give me 40GB/month shared data. So if I intend to travel, maybe good to look at a plan with unlimited roaming and not bother installing a home phone plan with unlimited data.

  • Well that's quite a damn good deal.

    • I'm still looking for better offers with other Telcos if anyone knows of any. Already have an issue with these bozos where they were supposed to give a discount and agreed to do so but still charging my second account at full price.

    iPhone 8 is old.

    • +1

Yeah but 8 Plus 256GB is probably a good replacement for a 6 Plus 64GB

    • It has the same internals as the X, just no fancy screen and FaceID tech :(

      • +2

To be honest I don't even care, I read a comparison review and the X had shorter battery life. It's not for me I use Android, it will be used to work and needs to play nice with other Apple devices, take lots of photos and videos so the larger battery and memory capacity appears useful.

      • After having a quick play at the Apple store today, I think the 8+ is still a better phone.

OLED display is disappointing coming from IPS.

        • Don’t know who voted you down but I agree, iPhone 8+ is great and all factors considered is a better choice for some people.

  • while I was talking with online sales,I was told another good deal if I sign a new $30+ 24-month plan with 15GB data instead of 10GB, I will get a ipad for free

    • +3

Nothing is free, that is a misrepresentation - if anything the iPad will be built into your plan and you will be pitched ONE single price point which as the phone plan PLUS the ipad and its plan

  • +2

Don't compare the price of the plan you want with previous models - if you're looking for a good deal compare the same model with other Telcos. Optus quite frequently makes older models more expensive than current ones. If iPhone 8 Plus on that plan is cheaper than other telcos then sick but yeah don't compare WITHIN Optus.

    • Thanks dogewhisperer someone said Virgin has a better deal and included a link, but the post seems to have disappeared already.

      • +3

Yes i know it was removed. Because i found out it was only a deal with only 2GB internet so i had to do a ninja edit to save embarrassment. lol

        • Just as well then, I went to their (Virgin Mobile) homepage but it so far failed to load. If that's the service level I can expect then they can keep their deal. Other web pages are working fine alongside

        • @mangoburger: ok mr optus

        • Actually went to Whistleout to compare other offers, Vodafone offers similar pricing but $5 per day for roaming which Optus includes. Don't get me wrong, I'd like a better deal as much as any Ozbargainer, just haven't found one yet. I've just spent 2 hours on Optus Livechat and the experience was pretty average, 4x redirects

i actually got offered this deal last week from my usual "account manager" (that's what he called himself), he managed to offer me $102 for the 8 plus 256GB model with 30GB of data and on the own the phone plan, have the phone delivered in 3 days as promised but i think this is just luck, i have ordered an ipad from him before which took 2 weeks to arrive…. PM me if you wish to contact this Optus guy

    • +2

You dont even have PM enabled ! Please PM the Optus rep details. I got the iPhone X 64GB for $104 a month with 100GB plan. Its on the Lease plan but for that price,I couldnt say no.

      • hahaha, enabled now, sorry mate always been a taker

      • Could you please PM me the details for this; I can't PM since I'm a new member.

    • Hi popcorn, can u kindly pm me too. Am new on the platform and unable to pm. Cheers

    • Can u pls PM me your account manager

  • for this deal i would just go for iphone X 256 for $149 per month, $3576 for 2years. after student discount 10% will be $3218.4 for 2 years.

sell the iphone X if you dont want, then will be $3218.4 - $1829 = $1389.4 for 2year 200GB huge data plan with unlimited national and international calls plus free sport channels.

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/iphone/iphone-x?S…

    • yes but not all of us have student discount no?

      • Orrrr if you already have an Optus plan, you get 25% off on a secondary service which brings it down to $111.75/month. Flog the phone for $1829, that roughly brings it to $35/month. Not bad for 200gb, music, Netflix, sport etc…

        • I don't think the 25% off 2nd Service Plan discount is still available

        • @albert22: Another taker with no PM. How to get 25% off

        • @albert22: I got a 25% off just last month on the Mrs' plan (under my name of course), has worked every time for me through live chat

  • Thats pretty expensive

  • This seems like the normal price.. why is this being upvoted? What am I missing?

  • Ok in the end I got a referral from popcorn, thanks heaps that guy was able to give me a better deal, find and fix my issue on lack of discount, and simply understand all of my issues without me having to explain them more than once. A thousand times better than Optus Livechat

    • Hi mangoburger, can u kindly pm me the referral. Am new on the platform and unable to pm. Cheers

  • How do you get $70 a month? Starting price to own a phone on 24 month postpaid is $88/ month ?!
