Some decent reviews

This shows a comparison between Gen 1 and Gen 2

https://www.vacuumsguide.com/xiaomi-robot-vacuum-2-new-versi…

Also cheaper than the current best deal (pre-order)

Using the code MIROBOT2 roughly drops the price to ~$600 AUD

Shipping seems quicker with Geekbuying however, for $60 less I'm happy to wait the extra time with the above Ebay deal

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Brendan

  • What's the consensus of the mopping feature?

  • +2

    Love my gen 1

    • Me too

    • Then you'll love this more as it's more quiet

  • +10

Had my Gen 2 for about 2 weeks and its freaking awesome. no more mopping or vacuuming for me. Bit quieter than the Gen 1. Mop function is fantastic. It wont get rid of hardcore dirt buildup but with regular use (3 times a week) it will get on top of the mopping and keep the floor looking very clean. I have a 52 sq meter loung dining kitchen with tiles that it cleanse in about 40 minutes. 1 tank of water covers this. I have a rug with low pile that i let it mop over as the water it drops is very minimal.

Thanks Gigs for an actual real life Aussie review haha (far better than the youtube / biased reviews online)

    • Oh also - what did you pay for yours originally if you don't mind me asking? (Just so I can compare if my above deal is actually a deal?)

      • It was about $630 inc post. Early adopter tax :(

        • +1

Fair call - still, $630's not a bad price considering some websites are flogging it even now for $700 to $1000 AUD! Thanks :)

With the mopping feature does it do well on carpet at all? Or is it best to just detach the mopping cartridge when doing carpeted rooms (I've got tiled kitchen/entry and carpet in the bedrooms) Still on the fence about locking in or not.

        • i was a late adopter of the gen 1. another question. what was the original price when gen 1 first released? was it like the gen 2 (700 and dropped to the price we all know now ~350?)

    • omg I love my gen 1 but this gen 2 is so tempting. thanks for your review. do u have gen 1 as well btw? could u control two with the same app just curious

      • +1

yes and yes. Gen 1 does the garage now :)

    • +1

With the mop feature, does it know to not mop over carpeted areas?

      • +2

no but you can setup zones so it will only do the area you nominate. If you dont want it to mop you have to remove the mop tank

        • Cool, thanks for the info

        • Is the zones function working quite well and is it easy to set up zones in weird layouts?

        • +3

@unco: yep you just draw boxes over the area you want to do. I did 3 boxes to cover the area I wanted. It needs to do a full clean of the area first (without mop) so that it has a map. You can then do the zone boxes. Zones will not work if you pick up the vacuum and move it between floors as it needs the map.

        • @gigs: Very helpful info, thanks buddy!

        • @gigs: Do you have to draw the boxes every time? With Gen 1, it the map get redrawn every time. Wouldn't be too useful if you have let it do a full clean first and then draw boxes for the mop.

For example set it with mop tank to mop 2x a week on weekdays and remove mop tank for carpet clean on the weekend.

        • @rexii2300: just checked and looks like you need to redraw boxes every time. If you just have low pile rug or minimal carpet and mostly hard floor then just let it go like i do… It doesnt drop much water on the carpet. I can't see / feel any water left behind on my rug.

        • @gigs: cool thanks. I have low carpet. So if you have it on mop mode it will mop over your tile and the carpet?

        • @rexii2300: Good point, the map of the rooms gets drawn from fresh every time on the gen 1.

Wouldn't be too helpful if the gen 2 needed to be run a full cycle around the house to scan the rooms every time before being able to draw your zones again.

        • @gigs: hey Gigs, does it remember the map from the previous clean so you can draw on top of that map to direct it where to spot clean. For example if Mi Robot cleaned today, tomorrow can you simply open up the map and point it where to clean based on yesterday's map?

    • Awesome review.

Love it how you have a gen 1 as well.

Besides the mop feature, do you consider them (real life usage perspective) to be roughly the same for vacuuming besides the noise?

      • yes not much in it. the advantage on gen 2 is the filter is washable, besides that same same really. they are claiming more suction 2000 vs 1800 or something but I cant tell.

        • Great review gigs thanks! I'm still a bit confused - does it actually vacuum when it mops (so like a wet vacuum) or just moves the wet microfibre cloth around? Can you add detergent or is it just water? I gather you can't make it automatically dry vacuum first and then wet mop without physically removing the mop/tank?

    • +1

How does the mopping work? Is it only using plain water or detergent/soap? If only plain water then I guess its not really killing bacteria?

  • does this or the older model picks up pet hair? and by that I mean, they won't get tangled up in the motorhead, gobbled up over time (ie.pet and longer hair)and I have to manually cut them?
been wanting to get one since I've got a pet and tiles (hair everywhere!),.

    • +1

Hey mate I've got a siberian (triple coated) cat so I can sympathise…

The Gen1 I'd like to think performs well with cat hair, in saying that I've had to do what you've mentioned and manually cut the hairs tangled in the main brush occasionally (maybe once every fortnight) but honestly they seem to belong to the Mrs and not Udon.

    • Every time I run my gen 1 on my tiles, the bin is mostly full of cat hair. The hair from my cat is probably 3-4cm long (i have no idea if that's short-haired or long-haired). Doesn't get stuck in the brush, only long human hair gets caught, and I have to use the supplied little tool to remove it every 4 or 5 cleaning jobs.

    • Cat owner here of a long and short haired feline, Gen 1 vacuum.

Works fine getting all the hair from carpet around the house.
Need to remove the brush and clean though.

  • Beware of carpet scratching!

    Warm Prompt:
    1. When in mopping, please do not use it on the rugs or carpets, especially for the shag, long-wool carpets, because it might scratch your precious carpet with water tank
    2. The capacity of 2cm obstacle climbing may be declined when using water tank

  • Damn missed this one!!
