    RIP Toshiba TV section
    No more Toshiba TV's..
    Sold to Hisense..

    • +3

      What's wrong with Hisense?

    • Your a bit late with that RIP!
They bought the Toshiba brand name. Toshiba brand name here hasn't been association with Toshiba in Japan for some time.

  • This or hisense?

    • +8

They're both the same company as of 13 hrs ago!

      • +9

I doubt this particular TV was made within the last 13 hours though… so the components are likely to be different!

    • +2

      Hisense

  • Toshiba dying.

  • +2

Why? lol Hisense's reputation has been gradually building up in Australia and after sale warranty has been excellent according to other buyers.

On the other side, Toshiba is starting selling OLED next year.

    ….I dont see it coming.

    https://www.channelnews.com.au/hisense-buys-toshiba-tv-brand…

    • I had two Hisense screens. A HD 26inch (actually had about 20 of them). Worked really well.

We then bought 2 x 65 inch UHD hisense screens and they were the worst screens we have ever bought. The latency was terrible. If you had a mouse pointer on the screen and moved it back and forward it would be over a second behind. Not your usual usage scenario for this screen but if you were gaming you could expect up to a second lag gaming. Even in gaming mode it was not great.

So like most brands they have good and bad ranges I think.

I think you really have to try it out in store before buying it.

      • depends on the model I think.

Their N7 series is really good, only 30ms input lag as well.

Can't comment on the quality of this TV but this is a great deal.

How can something be a great deal if you know nothing of the quality of the item??

    • +4

Yeh OP… please go out and buy it … review, and let us know!.. loll

    • +4

I haven't seen the PQ in person. But based on prices of other entry level UHD tvs and the included bonuses, I think this is good value for some people especially those wanting an Android/chromecast compatible tv.

  • +1

If anyone in Melbourne is interested but does not have access to the AMEX deal, PM me.

  • -3

No different to most generic brand TVs available for cheaper so no deal, IMHO

    • +2

So better than a 55 inch 4K tv, delivered and wall mounted plus a $50 gift card for $695?

      Show me please.

Ps: also qualifies for the $100 Amex rebate. Makes it all for $595. A pretty solid deal imo!

    • Such as…..??

      I am open for suggestion!!

    • +1

Most people can pickup and wall mounting may not be of use, so I dont count them in but still to abide by your point, here are a few examples of 55inch 4k TVs for below this price. Add the difference and see whether you think you would pay the difference for the benefits:
      - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/340534

Keep in mind, no name brand TVs can be had regularly for $500 or even less (if there isnt available now, wait a few days and grab it when a bargain shows up) so paying an extra $195 for delivery and wall mounting does not make sense. Sure you can use the Amex deal (but not everyone has it) and HN gift card (spend more).

    • Bauhn didn't buy Toshiba bro…lol…Hisense did…

      • Doesn't make this tv any better than the Bauhn either

  • price seems good but I suspect "you get what you pay for".

  • +1

I've got an old 37" Toshiba, bought s display model with 5 year warranty thinking it would die (bought in 2008 with Kevin Rudd's cash splash money), but its still going strong.

    • Ditto, great tv for the money I paid in 2007 but just in the last few days every time I turn the volume up, or down, it blank screens on me 😖

      • +2

time to get this one man…that one lasted you 10 yrs…:)) lol

  • +2

Anyone found a decent review on this tv yet?
I went to my local HN, but the kid in the A/V section had no idea about just about anything!

    • +1

      that's every HN A/V section.

P.S Love the "Old Man Yells At Cloud" newspaper clipping

    • Was the tv on display?

      • I saw it at Castle Hills on display yesterday

        • How did you think about it?

        • @apprentice:

I normally would not recommend people to buy cheap TV because you have to watch it everyday for a few years.

  • +1

Pretty crazy price for delivery, bracket & installation - especially after Amex deal.

    • -3

      hi cutie

  • Also interested in comments about it.
It says it has 3 HDMI ports. Does that include HDMI-ARC?

    • Looking at the manual and photos of the tv I would say not, which really surprises me as the $400 Akai 55" UHD TV did have it.

    • HDMI 1 supports MHL & ARC

  • Details of the TV aren't even on the Toshiba site because they are an Indonesian company Toshiba bought out and re-branded, the distributer is Powermove.com.au

    • No manual on either .au site - Found this for the Middle East/African model
      https://tvmea.teva-toshiba.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/06…

    • so built and pic quality on par with Aldi TVs?

      • +2

I had a quick look on my way to pick up my daughter from school - the guy had a LG sampler USB hooked up showing 4K - I wasn't impressed, the image looked grainy and flesh tones were mottled and blotchy.

It may need adjustment as it had just come out of the box, but I think I've talked myself out of it.

  • +1

how much would it cost to wall mount a tv if we call a handy man plus the cost of the brackets?? would it be cheaper to buy this tv just to get the wall mounting brackets done??

    • Bracket is cheap if you get it from Selby but labour plus delivery easily $100

    • I was thinking the same. I don't want to buy an oled and accidentally break it before using it!

  • Anyone in NSW with the Amex deal? I have an amex but didn't register I missed out!

  • I went to check it out tonight, really not impressed by the picture quality. The Hisense 50N6 and 55N6 both looked better and were around the same price recently so probably will be again: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/342547 . I am thinking wait until that sale is available again and go price match at Gerry's Electrical for the AMEX credit.

    • +2

Gerry’s stormtroopers would not match for me

  • Toshiba hasn't made a TV in 3 years anyway.

This will be the same as any bauhn, any Kogan or any unbranded tv.

This is not the Toshiba people believe it is.

    • It is bauhn price anyway. $699 - $50 gc - $50 delivery = $599

    • Even when Toshie made TV’s they weren’t anything special anyway, which I suspect is the reason for their eventual demise as a Japanese made brand, in terms of LCD panels & technology.

Manufacturers like Samsung/LG pushed very hard to undercut Japanese brands during their development into larger market players and those second tier brands such as Sanyo/Toshiba/Sharp just lost more market share and eventually couldn’t compete anymore. Particularly when you consider that you could buy a product very similar to a Japanese brand that was ‘technically’ better for much less and most consumers either didn’t care or didn’t notice.

I remember the days when people would disparage LG b/c they used to be called Lucky Goldstar, and now they’re the ones everyone buys their OLED panels from.

The other issue, IMO was the use of fudged numbers to make Japanese makers look second best, mind this is going back prob 8 years or more where Samsung would list a contrast ratio of 20,000 or something ridiculous and Sanyo would list a ratio of maybe 3000:1 or similar which would have been far more accurate but most people didn’t understand the technology and went with better numbers. The same thing happened with response times, back when that was a thing that manufactures wanted to mention. These days it’s more about fudged numbers of HZ or interpolation like motion rates of 1200 to make people think a native 100HZ panel is 1200 HZ and similar. It’s all marketing BS, but I think that the Korean makers just did it better.

But the thing is that the origin (country) doesnt really matter anyway, as has been proven by up and comers like TCL/Hisense who are massive in China, and will tweak their brands to compete Internationally.

In my mind the current ‘best’ LCD TV would be the Sony 9300E and best OLED would be LG C7 as I’ve not seen any reviews of the newer model yet.

Hell, the current JVC from BIGW for $450 odd is a pretty good deal.

Cant rem what toshiba I had, but it was a 4k HD etc etc etc 55 inch. Biggest piece of shit I have ever used. Seriously even if it was free it would piss you off. Took it straight back

  • Got mine installed today. Picture quality out of the box was horrible. After adjusting the brightness, contrast, saturation etc. manually, it looks much better with softer and less bright PQ. Installation was done professionally with in-wall cables etc.

    • In-wall cabling? I wasn't expecting that. Nice.

      • Yeah, checked the technician's paperwork. The installation charge was $223 if I didn't remember it wrong. The wall bracket has an RRP of $129.

        • I'm sure there's a lot of margin in the bracket. But labour… not sure. How long did the installation process take?

        • +1

          @shavi: About 1.5-2 hours.

        • Do you have dry walls or brick rendered?

        • +1

          @Jackson: drywalls
